  • ‘The Flash’ Adds Sasha Calle as Supergirl

‘The Flash’ Adds Sasha Calle as Supergirl

When you look up the definition of development hell, the solo Flash movie could be one of the first things you find. The movie has been through hell and back, as it went lost directors left and right after its first announcement. Finally, the movie found its savior in horror movie director, IT‘s Andy Muschietti. The story will explore Flash traveling through the multiverse. There he meets a new version of Batman, the original 1989 version played by Michael Keaton. It will be DC’s first step into exploring the many sides of the franchise’s legacy.

In a shocking announcement that no one saw coming, Muschietti made the announcement today that actress Sasha Calle will don the iconic Kryptonian crest and take up the role of Kara Zor-El, otherwise known as Supergirl. The director hand-picked Calle from over 400 other auditions. They have met actresses from all over the world before they made a decision. It looks like none of the actresses had any clue what role they were auditioning for until later into the process. Calle was one of few to make it to a chemistry test with star Ezra Miller. Muschietti had the following to say:

I saw more than four hundred auditions. The US, Argentina, Brazil, Mexico, Colombia. The talent pool was truly amazing and it was very hard to make a decision, but we finally found an actress who was destined to play this role.

The Flash is currently set for a November 4th, 2022 release date. The film will see Ezra Miller reprise the role of Barry Allen. In addition to Michael Keaton, Ben Affleck is also set to reprise his role as Bruce Wayne from the DCEU.

  • Paul Bettany Confirms Evan Peters Isn’t The Last Surprise Character in ‘WandaVision’

Paul Bettany Confirms Evan Peters Isn’t The Last Surprise Character in ‘WandaVision’

WandaVision has been quite a rollercoaster. We are about to enter the final three episodes of Marvel Studios’ first venture into long-form storytelling. Quite a few mysteries are left unanswered as we try to put the pieces of the puzzle together. We thought we knew where it was heading until suddenly Evan Peters showed up in front of Wanda’s door. The introduction of an iconic actor from the X-Men franchise in the same role will grab everyone’s attention. It also made us believe that we may have seen all the character reveals as the mystery starts to unravel. Well, it seems that there is one more iconic appearance still heading our way. Paul Bettany teased one a while ago and confirmed that it wasn’t the Quicksilver recasting that was referenced.

This is the theory that says there is a mysterious Avengers who is going to appear in WandaVision and people seem to think that mysterious Avenger is Doctor Strange. Truth is, of all the characters we were trying to keep secret. A lot of them got out before release. There is one character that has not been revealed and it is very exciting, it’s an actor I’ve longed to work with all my life. We have some amazing scenes together and the chemistry is extraordinary.

There have been countless theories when he first brought up the mysterious actor joining the show. Evan Peters seemed like the perfect choice, as his addition had some major ramifications for the franchise. He also hints that it isn’t Doctor Strange but also doesn’t denounce he may have an appearance at some point. Perhaps the mysterious character he is teasing was the engineer that has been talked about for the last two by Monica Rambeau. If I could make a wish, I hope it ends up being James Spader‘s return as Ultron, but they did work together on Avengers: Age of Ultron. Here’s hoping that the upcoming episode offers some long-awaited answers.

  • ‘GCPD’ First Casting Detail’s Tease Seasoned Leads

‘GCPD’ First Casting Detail’s Tease Seasoned Leads

The Batman hasn’t even hit screens yet but this isn’t stopping WB from going all-in on Matt Reeves’ new take on Gotham City and its resident caped crusader. It was announced a while back that Matt Reeves had begun development on a prequel to his upcoming film centered around the GCPD and the corruption within, with the series taking place during Batman’s first year of activity. Initially, many fans jumped to assume this series would be an adaption of Gotham Central, a storyline written by Greg Rucka and Ed Brubaker that focused on the cops of the GCPD and how they adjusted to life with Batman’s rise to prominence in the city and his war on crime.

The first casting details, although vague, could hint at some familiar faces around the GCPD. The casting details don’t give names but do state they’re looking for one male and one female to serve as leads for this series. The casting details remain vague but I think that the male lead could indeed be a familiar face from the Batman mythos. The production is aiming for a caucasian male in the ’30-’40s range for a “Police Detective, Works for Commissioner James Gordon.” Now that could really be anyone as the GCPD is obviously full of cops, but my first thoughts lead me to believe it could be Harvey Bullock.

At Fandome, Reeves stated that the show would follow the perspective of a corrupt cop in Gotham City. With the age range and close ties to Gordon, Bullock seems like the perfect fit for this role. I’m not so sure about the other casting. The production is looking for a black female in the ’35-’45 age range for a “former detective who was injured on the job and becomes the new Gotham district attorney. This could be an original character for the series as there really isn’t any character that fits this description. It’s also interesting to note that in the upcoming film, Peter Sarsgaard is set to play Gil Colson, the sitting district attorney at the time.

The upcoming spin-off to The Batman currently has no set release date but will release exclusively on HBO Max. The series will be executively produced by Reeves’ 6th and Idaho production company with Joe Barton serving as showrunner on the series.

  • ‘JESSICA JONES’ and ‘PUNISHER’ Rights Return to Marvel Studios

‘JESSICA JONES’ and ‘PUNISHER’ Rights Return to Marvel Studios

Two years after their final seasons dropped on Netflix, Jessica Jones and Frank Castle have now returned home to Marvel Studios. The reversion means that Marvel Studios finally has full control of all their so-called street-level heroes. A multi-year deal with Netflix had previously been holding the live-action rights to the characters in the streaming service’s clutches and prevented Marvel Studios from using them in any projects produced before the contract ran out. The details of the agreement between the two mega-corporations meant fans would have to wait two full years after each show’s cancellation before they could hope to see their favorite protagonist’s names in any Marvel Studios announcements. Jones, a super-powered private eye played by Krysten Ritter, was one of four Marvel heroes revealed to be getting their own series on Netflix in 2013, alongside Daredevil, Iron Fist, and comic book love interest, Luke Cage. The first season of her show was a surprise hit for Netflix, and led to the creation of two more solo outings. Jon Bernthal‘s Frank Castle, better known to viewers as The Punisher, debuted in the second season of Daredevil before his popularity led to the production of a spin-off. Two seasons were made before that series met its own untimely demise.

The four Marvel-Netflix projects, which converged in a team-up mini-series known as The Defenders, were incredibly popular among comic fans. It came as a shock to many when Netflix began to systematically cancel the projects in 2018. The moves by Netflix came shortly after Disney pulled the curtain back on it’s own rival streaming service, Disney+, which led subscribers to believe the cancellations may have been made out of spite. However, statistics released in the time since show a steady decline in viewership for many of the shows, which probably didn’t help their case in staying alive. Nevertheless, with all five major players having now come back to Marvel Studios, their most vocal advocates have made it known they want to see them on the small, or silver, screen once more. With Charlie Cox set to appear in the upcoming Spider-Man threequel, only time will tell if Kevin Feige and Marvel Studios have any plans to incorporate other characters into the future of the MCU, but for the first time in almost a decade, the ball is entirely in their court.

  • ‘Stargirl’ John Wesley Shipp To Guest Star in Season 2

‘Stargirl’ John Wesley Shipp To Guest Star in Season 2

Production on Stargirl has been going on for quite some time now and should be wrapping quite soon. The show’s upcoming sophomore season still has no release date but will move from DC Universe to the CW network. Not much is known about this season aside from the fact that we will see an ever-expanding Justice Society with the likes of Jade and Jakeem Thunder joining their ranks. One thing that fans have been dying for is a better look at the past by getting to see the original Justice Society in action before their eventual demise at the hands of the Injustice Society. Well, it seems fans will be getting a blast from the past from this upcoming season, with at least one episode set to feature a throwback to the team in their prime.

Entertainment Weekly has exclusively learned that John Wesley Shipp is set to reprise his role as the golden age Flash in the upcoming second season of Stargirl. Shipp has been a staple in The Flash since the show’s early days, having played Barry’s father, Henry Allen to playing Jay Garrick from Earth-2 and even suiting back up as his original character from the 90’s series. Shipp is set to appear in episode nine of this upcoming season. Garrick will officially be established as the Flash of the past JSA, the first taste of the Arrowverse crossing over into Stargirl. Reportedly Shipp will only appear in this episode, as it’s described as a “Pivotal flashback episode”.

Stargirl season 2 will see the return of Brec Bassinger as the titular star-spangled hero as well as Luke Wilson as S.T.R.I.P.E as they face off against this season’s big bad, the angel of vengeance himself Eclipso, played by Nick Tarabay.

  • First ‘Mortal Kombat’ Promises R-Rated Action

First ‘Mortal Kombat’ Promises R-Rated Action

It has been a long wait but finally, the first trailer to Warner Bros.’s latest adaptation of the iconic Mortal Kombat franchise has been released. Originally the film was going to debut in January but was postponed, while the production company tried to figure out how to approach the upcoming year. Now, it is included in WB’s new hybrid strategy, where they premiere their entire 2021 line-up simultaneously on HBO Max and in theaters.

    https://twitter.com/MKMovie/status/1362432505236783105?s=20

The trailer starts with a bank, as we see poor Jax’s defeat at the hands of Sub-Zero. It includes teases of the film’s impressive cast of characters from the game. Lewis Tan is also playing an original character that will be introduced as the viewer’s surrogate. It also looks like Kano might have a very different role once the film starts, as we see him on the side of Earthrealm. He is famous for betraying people, so they might have some larger plans moving forward.

The trailer certainly promises some great-looking action sequences. It also stayed true to Mortal Kombat traditions by having Sub-Zero and Skorpion fight each in the first trailer. It also confirms that they will embrace the R-rating that made the franchise so iconic and controversial back in the day. The moment Sub-Zero turns blood into a frozen dagger was a really impressive showcase of what is possible with these characters. We also got a variety of character posters some time ago, which highlighted the film’s massive cast. I cannot wait to see it when it premieres on April 16th.

  • Danny Elfman to Score ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’

Danny Elfman to Score ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’

According to a report from Inverse, Danny Elfman has confirmed that he has begun working on the score for Marvel Studios Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. This marks a return to the MCU for Elfman, who scored 2015’s Avengers: Age of Ultron, and a superhero reunion between Elfman and director Sam Raimi as the two collaborated on the first two Tobey Maguire-led Spider-Man films.

Elfman will now have made his mark on 5 decades worth of superhero films, having scored 1989’s Batman, 1990’sDarkman, the aforementioned Spidey films in the 00s, Age of Ultron in 2015 and now the Doctor Strange sequel in 2021. The gig also sees him once again at work with Raimi, with whom he’s collaborated many times in the past. Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige has mentioned that the sequel will tie into the upcoming third MCU Spider-Man film and with abundant rumors that the film will feature Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man via some multiversal shenanigans, Raimi and Elfman’s collaboration seems more than coincidental. It looks like the doors are about to be blown open on the Marvel Cinematic Multiverse!

  • Reality Starts to Crumble in New ‘WandaVision’ Clip

Reality Starts to Crumble in New ‘WandaVision’ Clip

Episode 7 of WandaVision is almost upon us and with only 3 episodes left to go, the other shoe is about to drop. The new clip shows us that Wanda’s dream reality is beginning to fall apart and that her son Billy’s powers are starting to grow. After expanding the hex, it appears that Wanda is having trouble controlling the reality right around her. After last week’s demonstration of what’s happening to those not directly involved in each “moment”, it’s terrifying to think what’s happening to those folks now that Wanda’s unable to control the things happening around her. The clip also showcases how the episode makes great use of Modern Family’s faux-documentary style ahead of what is likely the last “sitcom” episode.

Could Billy’s comments that his head feels weird because of all the noise be linked to those inside the hex who are suffering because of what Wanda’s doing? What will the boys do about it? We’ll start to learn the answers tomorrow when Episode 7 of WandaVision streams on Disney Plus.

  • Donald Glover Leaves FX For Multi-Year Contract with Amazon

Donald Glover Leaves FX For Multi-Year Contract with Amazon

Fans of superstar Donald Glover often find themselves discussing his long list of accomplishments. It looks like they can add another multi-year contract to that list. The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that Glover has exited his previous arrangement with Disney and FX to enter a contract with Amazon, which is reportedly worth eight-figures. The deal includes multiple projects, which will air as part of a content channel that is dedicated to Glover. His brother Stephen Glover, frequent writing partner and co-creator of Atlanta, also signed over to Amazon as part of the deal. The first content to come out of the signing will most likely be a new Mr. and Mrs. Smith reboot, which was announced via Instagram only days ago. Glover will be joined by Phoebe Waller-Bridge, who skyrocketed to stardom with Amazon’s hit Fleabag.

In addition to starring in various projects, the actor-musician will also produce several new series. One of these is in early development, which will go by Hive. The show will center around a Beyonce-like figure and includes former First Daughter Malia Obama as part of the writing staff. Hive‘s showrunner will be Janine Nabers, who is best known for her work on HBO’s Watchmen.

Luckily for fans, this move will not affect the fan-favorite show, Atlanta. The Emmy-award-winning FX series already got renewed for two more seasons. The third season will enter production in March. It’s been almost three years since the second season aired in 2018. Luckily, Glover took to his social media recently to ensure viewers that writing for the future of the show is going very well. The next seasons are aiming to air back-to-back.
