  • “WANDAVISION” Will Explore Monica’s Life After ‘CAPTAIN MARVEL’

“WANDAVISION” Will Explore Monica’s Life After ‘CAPTAIN MARVEL’

When Kevin Feige announced that Teyonah Parris would be showing up as a grown-up Monica Rambeau in WandaVision, fans put on their thinking caps trying to determine how Monica would fit in. The trailers and TV spots have given us a little hint about what Monica is up to, Parris says that the series will definitely fill in the gaps.

Captain Marvel: the movie's Monica Rambeau tease, explained - Vox

Monica has “definitely been through some things and seen some things…we actually do get to learn particularly what those things are Monica has seen and gone through and how they have shaped her life.” Parris went on to say, “We will actually touch on that A LOT through the course of the show.

We met Monica in Captain Marvel as a little girl, and basically in WandaVision we pick up with who she is now as a grown woman and through the course of the show we find out what she’s been up to what’s happened for her between that gap in the years and how she’s grown and evolved or not and we just follow her along.

While WandaVision is clearly a show with the unusual couple at its center, it’s intriguing to know that it’s going to take some time to fill in the gaps of what Monica has been up to since the events of Captain Marvel, which took place in 1995. It certainly seems like Monica is headed for big things in the MCU.

  • Directors Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead Join ‘Moon Knight’

Directors Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead Join ‘Moon Knight’

We are only a week away from WandaVision finally premiering. Disney+ will be a new hub for Marvel Studios to expand into completely new territory. They have already revealed a wide variety of shows that include the introduction of the teenage superhero Ms. Marvel, Clint passing on the torch in Hawkeye, and chasing the legacy of Captain America in Falcon and the Winter Soldier. One of the biggest additions is the inclusion of Moon Knight. The story about a former mercenary losing his mind and becoming a vigilante has just as many facets as Marc Spector has personalities.

It was a huge reveal when it was announced that Oscar Isaac was being eyed for the lead role. Shortly after, we got the confirmation that Egyptian filmmaker Mohamed Diab was also going to join the show, which is spearheaded by showrunner Jeremy Slater. It looks like he will be joined by two more directors, as The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead will also be directing some episodes. There is no exact number given, but THR confirms that Diab will be responsible for a sizeable chunk of the episode count.

The show is expected to start filming in Budapest as of March. Benson and Moorhead have made their name with their low-budget horror film in 2013, Resolution. They got on Guillermo del Toro‘s radar after the release of their film Spring a year later. Their latest film Synchronic included Marvel veteran Anthony Mackie in its cast. It’ll be interesting to see what they bring to the table, as they explore Spector’s broken psyche.

  • ‘Arrow’ Spin-Off ‘Green Arrow and The Canaries’ Cancelled

‘Arrow’ Spin-Off ‘Green Arrow and The Canaries’ Cancelled

One of the first DC superheroes to take the world by storm ended his eight-season with a backdoor pilot. It teased the franchise’s future, which would become the series Green Arrow and The Black Canaries. The show was going to feature the return of Mia Smoak as she takes up the mantle following her father’s death. Oliver Queen in the battle with the Anti-Monitor. She was joined by Laurel and Dinah, the titular Canaries. They would set out to honor the legacy of the original Team Arrow.

Sadly, it got revealed that the planned spin-off would not be moving forward at the CW. It’s been a year of silence on the series development. It’s unknown if it will get shopped to a different platform, such as HBO Max. At this point, however, it seems unlikely considering Marc Guggenheim‘s past comments on the possibility of continuing their story in the form of a comic.

The show was going to answer many unanswered questions from the original show, such as Dinah ending up in the future. There was also the question of who kidnapped Mia’s brother William at the end of the pilot. It looks like these answers will only be revisited in the form of a comic, if at all. It also joins the now canceled CW shows Supergirl and Black Lightning. These will end with their upcoming seasons. It doesn’t look too bright for the DC show’s future on the CW, but it may be a sign that they are more interested in producing HBO Max Originals. Comic characters aren’t easy to adapt, so a bigger budget certainly helps. It isn’t the end of the line for this franchise, but they might be trying to refocus as they move forward.

  • Karen Gillan May Be Joining ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’s Australian Production

Karen Gillan May Be Joining ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’s Australian Production

It looks like we might have one more member of the Guardians of the Galaxy joining Thor: Love and Thunder. A while back it was confirmed that we would at least see Chris Pratt return as Star-Lord, but there was no real confirmation if the entire team of ragtag space adventurers would also make an appearance. We barely know if they play into the story in any way after Thor left with them into space at the end of Avengers: Endgame. As the production is set to start in Australia, we’ve been keeping an eye out for any member of the team heading out there. Luckily, our very own Lizzie Hill noticed the actress Karen Gillan sharing some pictures of her arrival in Australia on Instagram.

Of course, her being in Australia does not confirm her participation in the film directly. It would make sense for Nebula to appear in the film, as we also saw her on the Guardian’s ship when they left Earth. Still, her inclusion makes absolute sense, especially as Star-Lord is already confirmed to appear. I could imagine that Thor is trying to help them during one of their missions but ends up screwing up, which gets him ejected from their ship. While he has gained some of his confidence back, he might still need some time to recover mentally from the events. Marvel Studios did confirm that a part of the film will focus on Jane Foster and Valkyrie, so who knows if the Guardians are really around for much of the film. Hopefully, we get some kind of confirmation soon, but it is fun to speculate.

  • Michael Waldron Disney Deal Confirms ‘Loki’s Second Season

Michael Waldron Disney Deal Confirms ‘Loki’s Second Season

About a year ago, Charles had heard some rumblings that the upcoming Disney+ series Loki may have a second season. It mainly was connected to references of “actors being brought on board for lead and major supporting roles” with options for a possible second season included in their deals. Now it looks like that these rumblings were true. According to DeadlineMichael Waldron, the executive producer and head writer of Loki, has a major career ahead of him with Disney. He will take over writing duties for Kevin Feige’s Star Wars film and many more IPs. Apart from working on Kevin Feige‘s upcoming Star Wars film. In the article, there is a mention that Waldron will return in some capacity for the show’s planned second season.

This deal is significant for several reasons. For one, signing on an Emmy award-winning writer for multiple projects, which includes two of the biggest IPs in the world, shows an incredible trust in Waldron‘s work. It also is a clear sign that there are big plans for the character. The upcoming Disney+ series will see him join the Time Variance Authority in some capacity and exploring the different parts of human history. Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is confirmed to include Kang, they might be wanting to explore the aspect of time travel even more. It also might have some strong multiverse ties, as Waldron is also the writer of the upcoming Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness film.

  • ‘Loki’s Michael Waldron Set as Writer for Kevin Feige’s ‘Star Wars’ Film

‘Loki’s Michael Waldron Set as Writer for Kevin Feige’s ‘Star Wars’ Film

World’s are finally colliding as Kevin Feige is starting production on his very own Star Wars film. Deadline has learned that Michael Waldron will be spearheading the script that will explore the galaxy far, far away. Waldron‘s career at Disney seems to be at an all-time high, as he was the head writer of the upcoming Disney+ Loki series and penned Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness. It seems that this is also part of a massive deal that will see him be involved with many more future projects. Feige is set to develop and produce the film for Lucasfilm, but no director is currently attached.

Lucasfilm is trying to reinvent its approach to the iconic franchise started by George Lucas back in 1977. After ending the original numerical series with the Rise of Skywalker, they are looking at individual stories that connect to the wider galaxy. Patty Jenkins and Taika Waititi are both set to direct their films that don’t openly have any known connection with each other. The Mandalorian was their first step in this direction, so we might see more standalone stories that end up getting spin-offs at one point.

It is great to see how much Disney believes in Waldron. It adds a lot of excitement to the quality we can expect for both Loki and the Doctor Strange sequel. He has quite an extensive resume, as he started his career on Rick and Morty, which earned him an Emmy during its fourth season. He also was the creator of Starz’s wrestling drama Heels. It’ll be interesting what spin both he and Feige have in store for the Star Wars franchise.

  • Production Pauses on ‘DOCTOR STRANGE: IN THE MULTIVERSE OF MADNESS’

Production Pauses on ‘DOCTOR STRANGE: IN THE MULTIVERSE OF MADNESS’

Elizabeth Olsen has begun doing the press rounds ahead of next week’s premiere of the Marvel Studios Disney Plus streaming WandaVision. Last night, while talking with Jimmy Kimmel about that project, she updated the status of the production of her next MCU project, Doctor Strange: In the Multiverse of Madness. Olsen informed Kimmel that production on the sequel has been paused as a precaution amid the recent surge in COVID cases in and around London, where the sequel is filming.

For the time being, Olsen is quarantined in London awaiting a restart of production. The Strange sequel began production in November and isn’t scheduled to hit theaters until March 25, 2022, so unless the delay goes on for months, it’s still incredibly likely that it makes that date.

  • ‘Knightfall’s Natalie Holt to Score ‘Loki’

‘Knightfall’s Natalie Holt to Score ‘Loki’

It is crazy to think we are so close to finally getting some Marvel Cinematic Universe content after a long hiatus. WandaVision finally premieres next week. It is going to be the first of potentially six shows for 2021. It’ll be followed-up by The Falcon and the Winter Soldier before Loki joins the service in May. We still know very little bout the shows, as it wasn’t until the recent Disney Investor’s Day that we got an official first look at most of the series alongside a release date. All eyes were on WandaVision, as it is releasing soon, but it looks like Loki has also been quite busy.

According to Film Music Reporter, Natalie Holt has joined Loki. She joins director Kate Herron and head writer Michael Waldron’s production team. Holt is known for her work on the TV series Knightfall and Amazon Prime’s upcoming Herself. She was also a part of 2014’s Paddington music department. It’ll be interesting to see what she brings to the series. The brief melody played during the initial Loki trailer is already a fantastic tease of what is to come.

It is crazy to think what a huge surprise the series focused on the God of Mischief turned out to be. When they first announced he was getting his series, I did not expect him to meddle in humanity’s history alongside the TVA. I also didn’t expect he would turn out to be the MCU’s version of D.B. Cooper, so we’ll see how else he ends up leaving his mark throughout time.

  • Two-Episode ‘WandaVision’ Premiere Teased by French CANAL+ Magazine

Two-Episode ‘WandaVision’ Premiere Teased by French CANAL+ Magazine

Just yesterday, Charles shared the news that WandaVision will consist of nine episodes. So, it opened up the theory that we will most likely see two episodes during next week’s premiere. Well, it looks like that has finally been confirmed, as @V727Mr just shared an excerpt of the official French Le Mag CANAL+, which confirms that we will be welcomed to Marvel Studios’ first adventure into long-term storytelling with two initial episodes.

The fact that CANAL+’s official monthly magazine reveals this is a good sign for its validity. To those that don’t know, it is a French premium television channel that embraces a hybrid model. Disney+ was made available through the service during its launch back in April. I already couldn’t wait for January 15th, so this isn’t making the wait any easier. It does open up the question if the show will follow a strict comedy format of 22-minutes per episode early on. The Mandalorian was quite flexible with its episode length, so we will see if Marvel is a bit more restrictive with their approach.

As CANAL+ has shared the news, it is strange that Disney hasn’t advertised this fact. Yet, there is a chance they are building up to it shortly before release. It’s not uncommon for marketing to wait until the last minute to give away something that would give people a bit more hype before the release. We might get an official teaser in the next few days that finally reveals it, but it is still exciting to think not just one but two episodes. With the confirmation that we can expect nine episodes, it makes you wonder if we’ll get another two in the show’s second week as well.

  • DC’s ‘PEACEMAKER’ May Be Adapting the Janus Directive

DC’s ‘PEACEMAKER’ May Be Adapting the Janus Directive

With plot details still being held tightly under wraps by Gunn and company, all we know is that the HBO Max streaming series, Peacemaker, will be a prequel to Gunn’s upcoming film, The Suicide Squad. Recent casting breakdowns tease what we could see unfold in the series which will most likely show us the origin of John Cena’s character, Christopher Smith aka Peacemaker. Some recent character breakdowns have teased the appearance of a few classic characters and the shady organizations they work for.

In this fresh take from DC, Smith would be reinvented into a Vietnam war criminal and would be sentenced to life in prison for his actions. Smith would be offered early parole for his participation in the Peacemaker Project, a top-secret anti-terrorist task force for the US government that would ultimately be shut down, but wouldn’t stop Christopher from taking up the mantle of Peacemaker and combatting terrorism himself as a one-man army.  This is where the story begins to pick up and where I believe Gunn would be adapting for his upcoming series focusing solely on this character

Since it was announced that he would be picking up this project, Gunn has praised the work of John Ostrander’s Suicide Squad and mentioned multiple times that he’s based a lot of what we see in those books as the inspiration behind his adaption. Well, Ostrander had another story and that story was The Janus Directive. This story saw multiple top-secret intelligence agencies from the DC Universe pitted against each other including The CBI, lead by one Sarge Steele, who we previously reported may have a role to play in the show. But that isn’t the only group I believe to be present in this and fueling the Janus Directive theory. The Agency, and that is its full name, was another top-secret group that was able to figure out the identity of Peacemaker and coaxed him into their service, but not alone, Peacemaker was also joined by Adrian Chase, aka the Vigilante, another character who’s been confirmed to appear in the upcoming series, to be played by Chris Conrad. Originally I believed that the CBI would be the only agency included but it wasn’t until the breakdown for a new character named “Keeya” was released. The production is looking for a black female, Late 20’s/ Early 30’s, gay supportive but tired wife, reluctantly dealing with her wife’s new government job and the secrecy it requires. We know at least one agency will be present and looking like this could be THE Agency considering the inclusion of Vigilante.

Here’s where it gets even more interesting though, when the leader of the Agency, Valentina Vostok, left the organization, someone was right there to pick up the pieces. The person was none other than Amanda Waller, who would take the remnants of the agency and turn it into Checkmate, an all-new covert agency. The inclusion of Amanda Waller in this series could lead her to a possible appearance in the show in which we see how Peacemaker came to be on the Suicide Squad after the downfall of the agency, possibly even seeing her fold the Agency into Argus.
