New Details on ‘Marvel’s Avengers’ Spider-Man and Raid DLC

It looks like more information has found its way online on the upcoming November 30th expansion of Marvel’s Avengers. Not only will PlayStation owners get access to a new character in the always popular Spider-Man, but we also will embark on the game’s biggest endgame content offering in the “Discordant Sound” raid. earlier today we got our first footage of the character, but some additional reports have added some curious new details to his addition.

It seems the story will include some new additional NPC characters that may or may not have a story later down the line. His college classmate Liz Allen will be found at the Ant Hill as well as Mark Raxton, who becomes the Molten Man in the comics. Crystal Dynamics played coy on if he might take a villainous turn at some point. While most of the story is told through files, it’s great to see them expand the world.

    Image

Let’s start off with the new playable hero. There has been some debate, especially in IGN’s coverage, about how Spider-Man swings from one location to the next. Forbes’ Paul Tassi has highlighted that it comes quite close to what Insomniac offers which is impressive given the restrictions. He does swing off of “nothing” but that is something one has to suspend disbelief in for any game, as he did the same in Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 due to playability being prioritized.

    Image

The character also comes with a new status effect based on his webs. He’s more of a crowd-control and support character in the game. It’s a curious direction but his new web abilities support that direction and make him stand out from the rest. Yes, he is a strong fighter but has the ability to help out the team when they are getting swarmed by enemies, which will be a recurring issue in the upcoming raid. He also has different web shooter variants, which include a charge shot and web bombs. You can even knock enemies against a wall and web them up.

    Image

Speaking of, it seems that the entire raid has been built from the ground up just for this mission. The giant Klaue fight that has been teased for quite some time takes up half of the game, which is an exciting prospect of that giant constantly taking you down. You can also expect traditional bosses and mini-bosses. Communication is key, and while they’re still working on a join-in-progress offering, it’s good to play with people you know well.

  • ‘Marvel’s Avengers’: First Look at Spider-Man’s Gameplay

‘Marvel’s Avengers’: First Look at Spider-Man’s Gameplay

It looks like the first gameplay has found its way online of Marvel’s Avengers‘ upcoming Spider-Man DLC. There has been quite a bit of controversy surrounding his addition due to him being PlayStation exclusive, but the fan-favorite has still been on many players’ radar. After a long wait, we finally got a small teaser trailer for his Hero Event, which is not the same as the usual operation, but nothing on his gameplay. Well, the wait is finally over as IGN has shared a new Hands-On Preview of Spider-Man in action and he seems quite promising.

There are comments made regarding the limitations of his swing, but that is a given with this game not being open-world like 2018’s Spider-Man. It’s great that they added a full swinging animation rather than how for example Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 handled it due to the restrictions. Of course, there’s a glass ceiling in the game, but it’s the same with any flying characters. So, it was to be expected, and still great they made it a swinging animation rather than just him switching from web to web.

His combat options certainly stand out, especially his heroics are quite creative. The web bomb looks like a great way to take care of a larger crowd, but a personal favorite will be his Ultimate, the Wrecking Ball. It reminds me of Spider-Man: Shattered Dimension where he would form weapons out of his webs. Of course, there’s the highlight that we don’t get any story missions but it might be a deliberate decision due to his exclusive availability. So, their hands were probably tied in how they approached his DLC. Yet, he is not releasing standalone and is available with the game’s first raid, a complete overhaul of their gear system, and earnable cosmetics. So, while spidey is a more moderate addition, the game is getting a fairly large update.

  • Latest ‘Marvel’s Avengers’ Dev Stream Offers Insight in New Earnable Cosmetics

Latest ‘Marvel’s Avengers’ Dev Stream Offers Insight in New Earnable Cosmetics

We’re only a few weeks away from the latest and probably most important update in Marvel’s Avengers run since it premiered last year in September. The game is getting a complete rework of its gear system, the first Raid, and even the addition of Spider-Man on PlayStation consoles. Yet, it’s not even the end, as we’re also going to get away to earn cosmetics in the game. There was the original option through patterns that didn’t quite work as planned but they revealed a new system that’s quite a bit more promising in the latest developer stream.

The biggest addition is the fact that you can now purchase up to 100 so-called “shipments.” It doesn’t involve real-world money but in-game units that can only be gained by playing the game. Each shipment will be highlighted with a specialty item, which you can gain by either purchasing all 100 available ones within a month time frame (keep in mind that only counts as of the Thursday reset timer), or it may also appear in the shipment you’re interested in buying. For example, they showcased one with a Wakandan Iron Man skin that is unique to the shipment.

    Iron Man's Wakandan Stealth Outfit

So, how does it work? The shipments are available directly in your character menu below the loadout. It leads you to the menu where you see the shipment which will always showcase what you’re able to gain when you purchase a shipment. Keep in mind, if you already own the available item you’ll get fragments instead. So, you’re not buying one and leaving empty-handed, as it supports the new gear system.

If you’re wondering about the RNG elements, you’ll always see what you’re getting when you purchase a consumable. You also have the option to scroll through all available cosmetics that you can gain through the 100 shipments that are made available. The bonus aspect is that the Cosmetic Vendor is also making a return with fully stocked cosmetic options. If you’re wondering if they crossover, there is only a 5% overlap between them and it means you’ll have a lot to gain with your options.

There’s more, as you’ll also get a few incentives to earn them through playing the game, such as missions that are made specifically for you to earn shipments in-game. The “Rise and Shine” mission for example will still include the current rewards but gets a shipment on top that you have to redeem within 24 hours, or else you lose it. It’s a great incentive to check out the game daily, which has been something people have requested frequently.

Units can be obtained through chests. So far, the options will remain the same with the only change being bronze strongboxes offer ten instead of the usual six units. The previously-mentioned patterns are also making a return but this time is earned through each finished stage of the Mega Hive, which adds some much-needed replay value to the mission chain outside of gaining Exotics.

Overall, it’s a great addition and a good reason to jump into the game once a day to level up some characters, finish your challenge cards – especially for the new Spider-Man addition – and get some free cosmetics. They aren’t only restricted to nameplates or skins, as you can also get emotes or takedowns through shipments. I do wish they were given a bit more flair, such as themed box sets with a nice visual rather than just the main redeemable cosmetic but it’s a concept they could build upon. Themed shipments like for the Holidays or to tie into events would make for a great addition later down the road.

  • ‘Mortal Kombat 11’s Sean Chiplock Voicing Spider-Man in ‘Marvel’s Avengers’

‘Mortal Kombat 11’s Sean Chiplock Voicing Spider-Man in ‘Marvel’s Avengers’

Just recently, we got our first look at Marvel’s Avengers upcoming Spider-Man DLC. Our first teases of the character have been quite promising but we won’t see his full kit until November 29th’s War Table video. Luckily, developer Crystal Dynamics has been offering some insight into the character and what he has to offer while building up to his release on November 30th. Today, they’ve finally announced that Sean Chiplock is voicing the character in the game.

Chiplock might not be as well-known as some of the other members of the voice cast, which includes Christopher Judge, Nolan North, Troy Baker, and many more. Yet, he has built up quite the repertoire in the industry. He’s famously voiced Mortal Kombat 11‘s Noob Saibot, Revali in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Seraphite in The Last of Us: Part II, Yuuki Mishima in Persona 5 Royal, and many more. He’s also played quite a few roles in Marvel’s TL;DR YouTube series. So, he’s certainly no stranger to working with the comic giant.

He’s also worked on quite a few anime adaptations, which include Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, One Punch Man, and Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure to name a few. The first teasers were offering some insight into his performance, which is quite promising and he offers that youthful yet veteran superhero. Here’s hoping we get some more teases of the character in action soon, as the month seems to never end.

  • Latest ‘Marvel’s Avengers’ Dev Stream Offers Glimpse of Game’s First Raid

Latest ‘Marvel’s Avengers’ Dev Stream Offers Glimpse of Game’s First Raid

A lot of the excitement for Marvel’s Avengers upcoming update surrounds the addition of Spider-Man for PlayStation players. Yet, there’s also the massive addition of the game’s first attempt at a Raid. We’ve had teases that we’ll get to face off against the sound version of Ulysses Klaw one last time. While we got some concept art teasing the game, the latest Crystal Dynamics developer stream offered a clearer picture of what we can expect from this massive mission.

So, the mission is split into two types, as confirmed during the announcement. You’ll have a regular and an Elite version. The latter is accessible once you hit the higher cap of your character’s Power Level. To access it, grinding gear is essential, as you no longer need resources but can use your gear to upgrade others. It’s part of the new system that is quite a promising change to make the endgame worth replaying. They also highlighted that the Elite version is not just a harder version of the original, but things are going to get mixed up in a way that it feels like a different experience.

Now, the dev stream also offered us some insight into one part of the game’s mission, which is going to be the longest piece of content in the game. It continues where the War for Wakanda storyline left off as Klaw got away and the Vibranium continues to spread. So, you’ll be quite busy coordinating with your teammates, as one room forces the team to coordinate. Some of the new gear items also help push co-op, as you’ll be able to share boosts from perks through the new Sonic Conduit. So, you can be a sender or receiver of bonuses, which is the first step to pushing team-based builds that are essential for the Elite version of the game’s raid.

They also highlighted that the game’s supporting cast will play a role in this mission. So, you’ll be in one room where Shuri is trying to help you keep the corruption from spreading. CD teased that you’ll have to think quickly on who takes care of what tasks, such as one player having to take care of something while the others defend Shuri. They also teased that there might be some fun magical elements in the game.

Now, the biggest highlight will be the fight against Klaw. In the initial operation, he teased his giant form but shrunk down for a more manageable fight. So, there was some concern we might have a similar situation. Luckily, Crystal Dynamics confirmed that you will face him in his giant sound form and we might even see him unleash his anger throughout the mission. There was a tease that it might be a few smaller confrontations (alongside some mini-bosses) before you take him face on.

There’s a lot happening with this Raid and it’s quite promising what has been teased so far. The potential of having Klaw looming over you, as you try to get through the various missions and seeing the Vibranium spread sounds like a promising concept to turn into such a massive mission. One of the lead developers highlighted that their goal was always to build towards these big Avengers-level threats, as they also want to get to a point where you have to face off against a Kree Sentry like from the first campaign. Here’s hoping they can make that a reality soon.

  • New ‘Spider-Man’ Suits Featured in Latest ‘Marvel’s Avengers’ Dev Stream

New ‘Spider-Man’ Suits Featured in Latest ‘Marvel’s Avengers’ Dev Stream

The latest dev stream has finally dropped offering our first look at some of the upcoming new Spider-Man skins heading to Marvel’s Avengers. We still haven’t gotten a glimpse of the character in action, but that was confirmed to happen on November 29th’s War Table video. Until then, we’re getting various updates and teases for the major new gear upgrades and the game’s first Raid. Yet, they knew why people were there and kicked it off with a look at various costumes. We got some of the game’s original designs and some inspired by comics.

The highlights are a Steve Ditko-inspired design, one inspired by End of the World, and even the original armored Spider-Man Mark 1 design. A personal highlight is the Spider-Man Noir design, as you can see all the details of the mask being stitched together and even wearing a knitted sweater. In the stream, they also teased that the coat has its own physics built-in, which will be fun while swinging around.

They also shared an additional new skin inspired by Secret War on the updated Developer blog that offers some more insights on the inspiration behind the various skins.

The costumes are quite impressive and Mark 1 showing off reflections or the details on some of the skins highlights the quality that this game has put into bringing these designs to life. Plus, Spider-Man has some of the most variety in comics, which makes him the perfect template to experiment with the various designs.

  • How ‘Marvel’s Avengers’ Spider-Man DLC Differs From Previous Heroes

How ‘Marvel’s Avengers’ Spider-Man DLC Differs From Previous Heroes

Spider-Man is finally coming to Marvel’s Avengers after being announced sometime before it was released. Not only did we get a good look at his in-game costume, but even a glimpse of his upcoming story titled “With Great Power.” Now, the interesting thing is that the character was advertised as a “hero event” rather than as a full-on operation like previous entries, Kate Bishop, Clint Barton, and Black Panther. It opened some questions and luckily, their latest War Table blog entry offered some insight into what exactly the wording means for when the character drops November 30th alongside its first Raid.

The overarching difference is scale, which impacts the way the story is told. The Hero-Event doesn’t come with a story campaign in the way an Operation does. The Spider-Man Hero Event narrative is told through a combination of cutscenes, dialogue, and a chain of documents. There are objectives for his story that unlock these documents as they are completed, which unfolds his narrative arc and gradually reveals his journey in our original Avengers world. As a result, Spider-Man will already be unlocked for existing Missions, rather than having to recruit him as a playable Hero during his story via story missions.

It’s an interesting distinction and wouldn’t be too surprising if some future hero releases follow a similar structure. Operations are lengthy story missions that build-up towards the Kree invasion. So, if they want to add minor characters that don’t tie into the main plot, it’s the best approach. Plus, they can spread out the operations more and better allocate their resources to keep a flow of content at a stable rate. Here’s hoping we find out if this becomes a regularity once the next heroes are teased for 2022.

  • First ‘Marvel’s Avengers’s Spider-Man DLC Trailer Shows Webhead in Action

First ‘Marvel’s Avengers’s Spider-Man DLC Trailer Shows Webhead in Action

Just yesterday, we finally got our first look at Marvel’s Avengers version of Spider-Man finally dropped. It’s been quite the wait since his initial announcement before the game was even released last year, but he has finally arrived. Luckily, we already got the first trailer teasing the character’s upcoming hero event DLC titled “With Great Power” that’ll be available exclusively for PlayStation players. He’ll release November 30th alongside the game’s first Raid and some important gear reworks.

They still won’t give away who the voice actor is, but they do seem like the performance is combining Josh Keaton and Yuri Lowenthal‘s in a way. It’s only a glimpse at the character and his new hero story, but we’ll have to wait a little longer until we get the character in action. Luckily, we’ll get a new War Table video on November 29th, which will offer a glimpse of the Klaw Raid and how the character will play. It’s a great way to end the year, especially as we start the build-up into the game’s 2022 offerings.

  • First Look at ‘Marvel’s Avengers’ Take on Spider-Man

First Look at ‘Marvel’s Avengers’ Take on Spider-Man

The wait has been long but the wait is finally over. Marvel’s Avengers has unveiled their design of the friendly neighborhood Spider-Man. We got a brief tease during the last developer stream from Crystal Dynamics, but it was all just a built-up to the official first look getting released. They did confirm we’ll get a look at various in-game skins of the character in the next developer stream.

The character has been teased quite a bit, but this is our first true look at the character. Luckily, it seems that the wait for our first look at the character in action won’t be long either, as they also confirmed that we’ll get our first trailer tomorrow from IGN. The wait has been quite long but it’s great that he’s finally releasing. Sadly, he’ll remain a PlayStation exclusive, but that might also be why he is described as a hero event rather than as an Operation like previous entries. It makes you wonder if there are story elements, they will still be selectable through the operations menu to replay it.

  • Latest ‘Marvel’s Avengers’ Dev Stream Offers First Glimpse at Spider-Man

Latest ‘Marvel’s Avengers’ Dev Stream Offers First Glimpse at Spider-Man

Just recently, we found out that Spider-Man will finally find his way to Marvel’s Avengers on November 30th. We haven’t gotten any real information or a look at the character, but while discussing the brand new gear system, which sounds very promising, they just secretly dropped our first look at Spider-Man. Keep in mind, there are Xbox-based buttons from a developer kit, and he remains a PlayStation-exclusive release.

It’s just a tiny glimpse, but the developers have promised us that we’ll get a closer look at the character and his skins in next week’s developer stream. So, that’s going to be a definite date to keep an eye out for a better look at the character. They didn’t mention if we’ll find out who voices him in the meeting.

This dev stream had a very specific mission. It was aired to introduce us to the new gear and perk rework. From that perspective, it was quite the success as we’ll enter a much better-defined endgame to grind out gear pieces. If you are interested, they released a blog with all the details which you can check up on here. It sounds quite promising and also the opportunity that rerolls push grinding the OLT and new Raid adds a lot of replayability.
