  • ‘The Flash’s Sound Mixer Confirms Production Wrapped on DC Movie

‘The Flash’s Sound Mixer Confirms Production Wrapped on DC Movie

The DCEU is expanding and will enter the multiverse with the upcoming film centered around Ezra Miller‘s Barry Allen. The film will reintroduce Michael Keaton as Batman, who will work alongside the young hero. In June, we got some set photos from the production that offered our first look at an older Bruce Wayne from another universe. Of course, he’s not the only Batman, as Ben Affleck is also set to return in the iconic role.

Just the other day, he shared his enthusiasm for working on the film and it seems they’re already winding down production. Colin Nicolson, a production sound mixer for the upcoming DC film, shared a post on Instagram confirming they’re wrapping up after 124 days of production. In it, he is standing proudly alongside his sound team for the film.

DC FanDome isn’t far and we might get a preview of the film to tie us over until its release in November of next year. It’s too early to get a full trailer, but the pandemic has changed things but any glimpse might say a lot about what the film has to offer. The multiverse is no easy feat and we’ll see if there are many more Batmen heading our way once the film releases. As they wrapped production, they’ll enter the post-production phase before figuring out some details to enter reshoots. Here’s hoping we get a glimpse at the film’s many universes and why Allen decided to enter it in the first place.

  • Sam Hargrave and Jake Gyllenhaal Adapting Rob Liefeld’s ‘Prophet’

Sam Hargrave and Jake Gyllenhaal Adapting Rob Liefeld’s ‘Prophet’

It looks like the Extraction director has found his next project. Hollywood Reporter has unveiled that Sam Hargrave is teaming up with Jake Gyllenhaal to adapt Rob Liefeld‘s comic Prophet. The period comic book adaptation is in development for Studio 8 with Gyllenhaal set to take the role of John Prophet. The adaptation will be written by Marc Guggenheim, who has worked on The CW’s Arrowverse projects. He’ll bring the story to life about a man, who volunteered to get experimented on by German scientists during World War 2. He gets buried for 20 years before waking up to a new world, KGB agents hunting him down and his daughter resenting him. Studio 8 CEO Jeff Robinov gave the following statement:

It’s been a goal of ours to work with Jake and Sam for quite some time, so we’re very excited to finally be collaborating with them on this unique, action-packed genre film. I’m looking forward to seeing what they envision for bringing this story to life — a story we’re sure will stand out in the comic book world as a powerful, emotionally charged, and visually distinctive film

    Jeff Robinov

It’s quite an interesting choice to adapt, but it’s an interesting concept to explore. Of course, they’ll likely take quite a few liberties with this adaption. It’s not a well-known comic series, which gives them some freedom to tackle it in creative ways. We’ll see how far the project develops and if they lean into the more out-there concepts from the original comic series.

  • Andy Serkis Confirms Venom and Spider-Man Are on a Collision Course

Andy Serkis Confirms Venom and Spider-Man Are on a Collision Course

Venom: Let There Be Carnage has already surpassed $100M at the domestic box off all but assuring that that film will continue to spawn as many potential sequels and spinoffs as there have been symbiotes in the franchise. While the film has done well at the box office, it’s the post-credit scene that has had everyone buzzing and, according to director Andy Serkis, Sony plans to make good on the promise of the tease of the two separate movie universes colliding by bringing Spider-Man and Venom face-to-face. Serkis explained in an interview with ComicBook.com.

We wanted to leave the audience knowing that these universes are going to somehow collide and we wanted to do it in such a way that it still leaves so much open and we’re not timing anything. The portal is not being crossed fully. It’s opening up more questions, I suppose, rather than sort of firmly saying [anything]….It is a tease. It’s a tease, in the fullest sense of the word.

The tease saw Venom and Eddie Brock transported from their universe into the Marvel Cinematic Universe where a television broadcast by J. Jonah Jameson seemingly put Spider-Man in Venom’s sights as a potential bad guy. While Tom Holland‘s Spidey has, so far, only appeared in films that have taken place in the MCU, Sony holds the live-action rights to the character and the ability to use the character in whatever ways they see fit. And as Serkis said, while there’s no timeline that’s yet been revealed, the plans are in place to have Spidey and Venom share the screen for the first time since Sam Raimi’s 2007 Spider-Man 3.

With the big post-credit scene seemingly taking place in the MCU and Kevin Feige once pointing out that Holland’s Spider-Man was the only MCU character who could hop through universe, we’ll have to wait to see WHERE the Spidey/Venom showdown takes place. It’s also worth noting that while it wasn’t too long ago that the two studios had seemingly come to an impasse and were putting their collaborative days behind them, this level of crossover might indicate a new and deeper commitment to working together, something that if done correctly, could only serve to strengthen both franchise’s universe.

Venom: Let There Be Carnage is in theaters now and Spider-Man: No Way Home is set to swing into theaters on December 17th.

  • ‘Venom: Let There be Carnage’ Crosses $100 Million Domestically in 5 Days, Tying ‘Shang-Chi’

‘Venom: Let There be Carnage’ Crosses $100 Million Domestically in 5 Days, Tying ‘Shang-Chi’

Venom: Let There be Carnage is continuing to dominate the box office.

The sequel has officially crossed $100 million at the domestic box office after just 5 days in theaters. This ties it with Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings for the fastest film to cross $100 million at the domestic box office during the pandemic. As if not impressive enough, the film also beat 2018’s Venom to the milestone, with the first film taking 6 days to do so.

This year has been a difficult one for most blockbusters. While hitting $100 million would be easy in a pre-pandemic era, most films have struggled to achieve the feat this year. Marvel Studios’ Black Widow hit $100 million after 6 days in release (with the film also on Disney+ at the time), F9 took 8 days to hit $100 million and A Quiet Place Part II did so in 20 days.

With little to no competition set to hit theaters this weekend, Venom: Let There be Carnage looks likely to rule the box office for a second weekend. The film was directed by Andy Serkis and stars Tom Hardy and Woody Harrelson.

  • ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania’ May Not Feature Judy Greer

‘Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania’ May Not Feature Judy Greer

When Marvel Studios announced the third entry of the Ant-Man and the Wasp franchise, we assumed it would see the return of the original cast. Yet, the moment Kang the Conqueror joined as its main antagonist, it changed everything. It opened up the question if minor characters would get included or if the story takes a very unique direction moving forward. Well, Judy Greer, who plays Scott Lang’s ex-wife, confirmed she isn’t involved with the film.

In an interview with ScreenRant, she shared her excitement to potentially join Quantumania. She hasn’t been contacted to join the production, which normally you would assume they’d make any dealings ahead of the production start. There’s always a chance they might invite her to film scenes at a later time.

I haven’t been told anything so I guess I’m not in it. I’m actually not, I’m terrible at [keeping secrets]. I always tell people like, ‘Just don’t tell me if you don’t want me to tell everyone.’ No one has contacted me and feel free to print that, that I’m very available and very willing to go.

    Judy Greer

The recasting of Cassie Lang is still a big mystery. Kathryn Newton is taking over the role of Emma Fuhrmann, who tackled the role in Avengers: Endgame. If her change is integral to the plot, they might want to also have her mother react to her daughter looking quite different. Of course, there’s still the chance the recasting won’t tie into the story, but it would make for a curious connection to the multiverse.

  • First Official Look at ‘Transformers: Rise of the Beasts’ Autobots and Decepticons

First Official Look at ‘Transformers: Rise of the Beasts’ Autobots and Decepticons

In July, we got our first glimpse at Bumblebee and Optimus Prime from the set of Transformers: Rise of the Beast. It was only a leak at the time, but Steven Caple Jr. has taken to Instagram to give us our first look at the team of Autobots and what may be this film’s Decepticons. We heard that they’ll be joined by Predacons and Terrorcons with Ron Perlman voicing Optimus Primal, but they commonly have animal-inspired base forms.

The image only shares their car forms, but they still offer a good glimpse at the designs they are going for. Bumblebee has seemingly gone through another redesign. It also doesn’t fully match the set photos that we saw, which might hint at him going through another change. The bike does hint at the inclusion of Arcee potentially in the film.

We still haven’t gotten a confirmation of which members of each team will be represented. It does seem like they are focusing on a more grounded story as the showcased Transformers are mainly car-based this time around. There’s always the chance they simply aren’t included in these set photos. There are very likely quite a few mystery additions that Caple Jr. is keeping from fans and this might simply be scratching the surface of what is heading our way once it hits theatres.

  • ‘Black Adam’ Set Photos Offer First Look at Hawkman Armor

‘Black Adam’ Set Photos Offer First Look at Hawkman Armor

After years in development hell, the Black Adam solo film has finally been set into motion, with Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson. With the film now in post-production, it’s poised to have quite a large appearance at DC Fandome with most of the leading cast in attendance for the event. We’re eager to get our first real look at the film after the brief teases Fandome gave us last year, like our first looks at the Justice Society of America suited up and the fallen champion himself, Black Adam in action.

New leaked photos from the production of Black Adam have given us the best look yet at Black Adam’s suit and also some of Hawkman’s armor like his iconic golden-winged helmet and his harness that features some bold pauldrons as well as some belt straps. Perhaps the biggest takeaway from these photos is the first look at Teth-Adam’s champion suit, looking strikingly similar to Supermans Kryptonian suit with the hieroglyphics detailing. The suit does seem to be a bit grayer than it is black, but could just be touched up in post.

This year’s DC Fandome event will hopefully give us an official look at the characters and their suits in a sort of “Roll Call”, like what The Suicide Squad did last year. Dwayne Johnson, Quintessa Swindel, Aldis Hodge, Noah Centineo, and Pierce Brosnan will all be in attendance for the Black Adam panel where we should see a much deeper dive into the film than we did last year.

  • ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’ Could See the Return of the Valkyries

‘Thor: Love and Thunder’ Could See the Return of the Valkyries

Here’s an interesting little tidbit. On the website StarNow, which includes information on actors and casting listings for major brands including Netflix and Disney, actress Vivian Tung includes a rather curious tidbit in her credits and experience. In her 2021 list, she highlights that she played a featured extra on the upcoming Thor: Love and Thunder film. What stands out is that she’s listed as a Valkyrie. Tessa Thompson‘s Brunnhilde is the last known living member of the elite Asgardian warriors. So, this listing could hint at their return in the upcoming sequel.

There are many ways to bring back the Valkyries. Either we get to explore Brunnhilde’s past that was hinted at before they were killed by Hela, or she reestablished a new generation after taking over New Asgard. She was given the title to rule over the remnants that are living on Earth. So, it wouldn’t be too surprising that under her rule she’d empower young Asgardian women to start a new generation of warriors.

It’s great to dive deep into this part of the MCU’s mythos, as we only got a glimpse of it in Ragnarok. There’s also the fact that they may build upon the reestablishment of the Valkyries through the reintroduction of Jane Foster. In the comics, she ends up becoming a Valkyrie after giving up the mantle of Thor. Perhaps, there’s a future for Natalie Portman‘s character beyond the fourth entry in the franchise as she takes on a new persona. Of course, it’s still speculation and we’ll see what kind of role they might have once the film gets released next May.

  • ‘No Time to Die’ May Be First $100M Domestic Opening Since Pandemic Started

‘No Time to Die’ May Be First $100M Domestic Opening Since Pandemic Started

It looks like the box office is truly recovering, as current estimates have No Time To Die set to surpass the recent record-breaker, Venom: Let There Be Carnage, and potentially be the first film to pass $100M domestically in its opening weekend. The Venom sequel barely inched above the $90M mark, but this is a great sign for later-year releases. The latest James Bond flick managed to surpass international expectations.

Advanced ticket sales are currently on par with the latest major release. The film’s advertising pushed it as the Avengers: Endgame of the 007 franchise. It’ll end Daniel Craig‘s run as the character before someone else takes up the mantle, which was confirmed not to take place anytime before 2022. They utilized this “end of an era” tagline to push the film’s general marketing and it’s certainly paying off. At this point, it also bodes well for future films to do the same.

It’s been a rocky year, it wasn’t until Godzilla vs. Kong that we had some hope for recovery. Once the Delta variant reared its head, things looked a bit more depressing but cinema-only releases have been dominating the box office lately. Shang-Chi was that extra push as it far surpassed early predictions that were kept low due to the pandemic. It even continued to remain at the top spot for four weeks running. At this rate, it’s clear that the box office will continue to slowly rise in numbers. It doesn’t mean we’ll see 2019 numbers again next year, but it’ll certainly be inching closer.

  • RUMOR: Doctor Strange May Face-Off Against Ultron Sentries in Multiversal Sequel

RUMOR: Doctor Strange May Face-Off Against Ultron Sentries in Multiversal Sequel

Here’s a curious piece of news, as The Direct has exclusively shared the news that the upcoming Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness film may feature the return of Ultron’s sentry bots in live-action. They do not go into detail if we’ll also see the return of the one controlling them, but it seems to potentially hint at a connection between the film and Disney+’s current What If…? series. They only state it’ll be from one of the universe’s Strange visits, but the natural connection would be with the recent reveal of an Infinity Stone-wielding Ultron who is taking on the Watcher.

The inclusion of Ultron Sentries could be a general short diversion. There’s a chance that the upcoming What If…? finale might tie into the upcoming film. So, it could further develop the franchise’s concept o the multiverse and also opens up the possibility that others appear. There was a rumor that Captain Carter and the corrupted version of Strange may appear in the sequel. So, more elements may manage to find a way into the upcoming film.

Of course, these are still rumors. The concept of the multiverse leaves almost any possible approach. We’ll see what the future has in store, especially if they continue building upon it. There’s a good possibility that Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania may join in the multiversal fun. The arrival of Kang the Conqueror could lead to another multiversal war. As such, we might see a lot more of Ultron in the future.
