Suki and Joe are back in the new year to talk not one, but two of the latest One Piece chapters. We’ve finally gotten back to Luffy’s battle with Kaido, but the latest chapter ends on a massive revelation.

New Leaked ‘One Piece’ Set Video Offers Closer Look at Alvida’s Ship
Not too long ago, the first images have found their way online of Alvida’s ship which will be used in Netflix’s upcoming live-action adaptation of One Piece. It was from the distance so you didn’t get a good look at it, but luckily Twitter user @BantuKingu shared a video from up close. Not only is it our best look yet, but it also gives us an update that they are indeed adding some color to the ship. If you look closely you can even see the red on the sails that would replicate the hearts the Miss Love Duck had in the manga and anime. It’s also impressive how big the ship is, which might probably only end up used in a few scenes. You can check it out here:
It does seem like they are making some changes to the original design, such as the swan head being pink rather than white. In the anime, the entire ship was. The fact they are going for practical effects instead of simply adding it in post also a sign they care about bringing this series fully to life. It seems they are still busy preparing for the shoot, which is understandable considering how much time it might take to get one of these ships ready for the production. Here’s hoping we might also get a good look at other ships as they continue building them ahead of the production start.

Leaked ‘One Piece’ Photos Confirms Marc Jobst and DOP Nicole Whitaker’s Involvement
It looks like some new photos have found their way online from the upcoming live-action adaptation of One Piece. We’ve been still anxiously awaiting when the series might start-up production, as hints are it may not be until spring or summer of this year. In the meantime, it seems that some new images have found their way online of the clapperboards that’ll be used during production. As shared by @OP_Netflix_Fan, who has been reliable in the past, the clapperboards include some details for the upcoming production.
What sticks out is that it confirms our story from September that Daredevil director Marc Jobst is involved with the series. It also includes the “Project Panda” title, which was confirmed some time ago. It also includes the director of photography, which is Nicole Hirsch Whitaker. She’s previously worked on projects like Jupiter’s Legacy and Truth Be Told. The only other detail that sticks out is that the unit using these clapperboards is called the “Paramecia Unit,” which is a nice nod to the manga’s naming of a specific Devil Fruit type.
It certainly seems like there’s a lot of movement happening behind the scenes, and we might get a confirmation of their production start similar to other Netflix series, which tend to do it through the Netflix Geeked Twitter account. We did get a short message during Jump Festa from the main cast, but we still have no insight into who the supporting cast might turn out to be. Here’s hoping the wait isn’t that much longer.

REVIEW: Usopp Gets His Time to Shine in ‘One Piece’s Chapter 1036
So, I know I am very late to this chapter and the next one is pretty much already out, but I still wanted to take some time to catch up on One Piece Chapter 1036 after the holidays. This chapter uses its time to give us an epilogue on Zoro’s fight, catch up with everyone throughout the raid as well as set up the return to Luffy and Kaido’s showdown. There’s a lot happening in this entry and just highlights how well Eiichiro Oda manages to juggle every single moving piece throughout the arc.
Zoro’s takedown is quite brutal, as the man literally lost a piece of his wing as a result. Though, the true loss is highlighted in the flashback to King’s time with a more enthusiastic Kaido. We once again get a reference to Joy Boy, as Oda sets up a curious parallel between these two combatants. Two men who swore to never lose a fight are at the breaking point to define which one would succeed. The declaration of Zorro’s to be “The King of Hell” is a powerful moment and is highlighted by the visuals.
Though, I love Oda can still keep a powerful moment and add something a bit goofy, such as Zoro being so powerful a swing of his swords can push him right back to the floating island. It’s the same when we return to Yamato, who is still desperately trying to find a way to the armory to ensure that when the island drops it doesn’t blow up Wano. Her new ally Fuga crashing into Rokki is worthy of a new nominee for best One Piece faces.
There are a few more vignettes that give us quick updates on what is happening, such as Big Mom’s continued onslaught, the battle between Raizo and Fukurokuju, and Orochi enjoying the company of Komurasaki. I’m a little disappointed that Drake was taken down off-screen by CP-0 and hope the set-up from his revelation still gets some build-up at one point, but it seems unlikely for now. Yet, I also thought the same with Apoo and he just keeps getting back up. So, you never know.
Out of everyone in this chapter – and there are some great character moments – Usopp truly gets to shine in my opinion. It’s such a great moment as he fights a ton of Breast Pirates to protect Kiku and Kinemon. His speech calling out their “leave us behind” mentality is just an incredible showcase of how much character growth he went through. His survivor mentality is also a perfect contrast to the samurai’s honor code, and it truly gives him a moment to stand out with everything happening in the raid. Izo’s appearance is also such a poignant moment, as he unveils the mark that has always remained on his back.
We’ve finally at the final part of the chapter and it’s finally time to see just how the one-on-one is going between Luffy and Kaido. They say very little once we return to the top of Onigashima, as they are just wailing at each other with all their moves. It’s obvious they are hitting their limit, but the smiles on both faces just highlight the words from King earlier in the chapter. We’ve finally returned to the fight that’ll shake the world as we know it and what a way to lead into it.

EXCLUSIVE: Live-Action ‘One Piece’s First Season No Longer Ten Episodes
There’s been a lot of speculation surrounding the upcoming live-action adaptation of One Piece. When the project first picked up momentum in 2020, a message by series creator Eiichiro Oda was released finally offering an update. Sadly, COVID has postponed the project by quite some time, but we finally got a casting confirmation in November for the main members of the Straw Hats. In the initial announcement by Oda, it was announced that the series will run for ten episodes in its first season. However, we can exclusively share that the episode count has changed.
It seems that at some point in its pre-production the episode count has been reduced from 10 to 8 episodes for its premiere season. That is a similar length to Netflix’s recent release, The Witcher. Currently, it seems the show is eyeing a potential start in spring or in the summer of this year. Of course, that has been constantly changing and Omicron concerns may also influence it with rumors of other productions closing down. The recent cancelation of Cowboy Bebop – another production by Tomorrow Studios – by Netflix after only one season might seem like a potential factor, as these are high-budget projects with high expectations of return for Netflix, but highly doubt it as it could’ve already been something that was decided before that show even aired.
The first season will cover the East Blue saga from the original manga series, which ran for 100 chapters. What is noteworthy about this saga is that it mainly focused on smaller arcs where Luffy gathered his initial crew before heading out into the Grand Line, meaning there are quite a few separate storylines that’ll be intertwined into this season. In that case, two fewer episodes could be a sign of tighter pacing and a stronger overlap between these arcs. Eight episodes have worked well for some series like The Witcher, Stranger Things, and more, so a slightly shorter season could work in One Piece‘s favor.

New ‘One Piece’ Set Photos Leak Online With First Look at Alvida’s Ship
We’re still waiting patiently for any new update for the production start of Netflix’s live-action One Piece series. While there was a video teasing production during Jump Festa, most o the cast returned home over the holidays making us wonder if they are still in the pre-production process. They’ve seemingly worked on the film for some time, as pictures surfaced of the Going Merry for some time. Well, it seems the next iconic ship has found its way online from the series, as shared by @OP_Netflix_Fan with images provided by @Risebito.
It’s quite far away and is seemingly missing color for now, but the swan-inspired figurehead definitely matches the original design. The ship looks quite large and makes you wonder how they’ll tackle each one of the various pirates, especially as Alvida has a minor role in the series. We’ll still get quite a few others that might pop up in the future, such as Krieg’s broken ship after his time on the Grand Line and the floating restaurant Baratie. We’ll see if these also find their way online as production truly kicks off.

Den Den Murphy Episode 9 – Chapter 1035
Suki and Joe are back to discuss everything that happened in One Piece chapter 1035, as Zoro finally takes down King just as Sanji gave Queen a kick to remember. Are we finally heading into the endgame?

REVIEW: Zoro Finally Takes Down King in ‘One Piece’ Chapter 1035
Queen is beaten, only King remains. That is how the latest One Piece chapter kicks off, as we see Queen still flying in the air from Sanji’s final kick. The opening of the chapter acts as a nice epilogue from that battle, as we get a cute moment of Sanji making sure that the mouse Chuji is safe and even a callback to his time feeding the poor animals while living under his father’s rule. After everything he went through, it’s nos surprise that he would pass out, but we’re still left wondering how much this fight has cost him.
Speaking of, Zoro is still in the middle of his battle with King, as Enma continues to drain his Haki at an alarming rate. Yet, he has found a way to control it, as he builds upon his newly awakened Conqueror’s Haki. It also seemed like he figured out the weakness of King’s base abilities, as he is slowly overtaking him. This may be the first time that Zoro is meeting his limit in a fight and it’s great how it balances out the elements that are presented here.
King turns out to be a man named Alber, who has a similar tattoo to the Skypians we met all those years ago. It looks like he and Kaido were experimented on in Punk Hazard, as Oda sneaks in a small flashback. We get a very different look at the leader of the Beast Pirates, who even had a smile on his face at one point before becoming the guy we meet today. Perhaps his Joy Boy reference earlier on was referencing his own failure.
The fight is surprisingly simple, as the focus is mainly on the long-awaited reveal of what was hiding behind King’s gimp mask. Right after the revelation on his past, we get a few interesting attacks between the two. Didn’t realize that his sword can shift design to potentially break Zoro’s swords, which he promptly reacts to. It’s interesting that there is a lot of attention given to that very fact before he finally lands a hard-hitting strike on the menacing King.
He even manages to push him into a corner, which was great to see, as our favorite first mate is forced to figure out how the flames affect the Lunarian’s ability. The final takedown including a dragon made of pure fire inspired by his captain was a great touch, as it highlights Zoro’s ability to cut even fire, which was teased earlier on, but also means that if the first mate can take down a dragon, his captain will manage the exact same. The visual with the Haki-covered swords look amazing, especially on the final page. It looks like he not only broke King’s sword – probably a retaliation on his obsession of breaking his – but even takes out a wing. It’s a fantastic moment to end the chapter on, and here’s hoping we finally see how Luffy’s fight is going in 1036.

Netflix’s ‘One Piece’ Cast Share a New Video Ahead of Production Start
We’ve been covering the One Piece series in development from Netflix for some time now. After they finally confirmed the main cast, we haven’t heard much about the project’s potential production start. The cast was slowly arriving in South Africa, but we were still waiting for any update, especially with the holidays are just around the corner. Manga creator Eiichiro Oda has been heavily involved in the project and included it in his regular announcements.
While promoting the upcoming One Piece Film Red and teasing next year’s 25th anniversary during Jump Festa, we even got a nice surprise for the Western production. Emily Rudd, Iñaki Godoy, Mackenyu, Jacob Romero Gibson, and Taz Skylar appeared in a new video to tease that production is slowly kicking off.
During the event, Oda also offered an update on what’s to come alongside the next One Piece film. @WSJ_manga was kind enough to share the translation where he highlights the Western production and his excitement for the cast.
It’s curious that the video hasn’t been shared on the official Netflix Twitter channel, but they might have wanted this to be a Jump Festa exclusive announcement.
