  • ‘WHAT IF…?’ EP Hints That Tom Holland’s Sony Contract Kept Him From Voicing Spider-Man

‘WHAT IF…?’ EP Hints That Tom Holland’s Sony Contract Kept Him From Voicing Spider-Man

There have been many mysteries surrounding the first animated series by Marvel Studios, What If…?. Before the show even premiered, many wondered why certain voices did not get included in the production. Dave Bautista famously voiced the fact he wasn’t invited, which turned out to potentially have been the result of miscommunication. Yet, there’s also the surprising absence of Tom Holland, who’s been very open on wanting any chance to play Spider-Man. In a Collider interview with executive producer Brad Winderbaum, he gave a clearer statement on his absence.

You know, I’m not treated to all the ins and outs of the relationship with Sony. But, I think it may have had something to do with it, yeah.

At the beginning of August, his absence caught many people’s eyes. There have been some leaks that hinted at Spider-Man not being who we think he is, which his absence gave some credence. It’s uncertain which exact episode the What If…? version of the character will appear, but he is definitely part of the MCU canon, as they were not allowed to introduce new characters. Of course, they may have also simply found a different actor to voice the character similar to how they approached the absence of Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans. Still, here’s hoping the constant right disputes between Marvel Studios, Disney, and Sony might find an end in the near future to not restrict Holland or the character’s future within the ever-growing franchise.

  • How ‘WHAT IF…?’ Confirms a Hela and Gorr the God Butcher Connection

How ‘WHAT IF…?’ Confirms a Hela and Gorr the God Butcher Connection

There’s been a burning question for many comic fans when Thor: Love and Thunder announced it will introduce Christian Bale as Gorr the God Butcher. The iconic weapon of the alien was the infamous All-Black the Necrosword that turned out to be the original symbiote forged into a sword by Knull. Yet, we’ve already gotten introduced to the weapon in Thor: Ragnarok through Thors sister, Hela. At least, we believed it was the same weapon and didn’t get a confirmation until now.

She wielded an unnamed blade that seemed to be based on the comic’s design of the Necrosword rather than her usual Nightswords. Her summoning them into her hands seemed to stem from the comic version. It opened up the question of if she was even wielding the same weapon and, if she was, how it might connect to Gorr in the upcoming sequel. Well, the latest episode of What If…? may have given us the set-up to that very answer.

Hela: Hat Thor Ragnarok den mächtigsten MCU-Bösewicht?

In a part of the multiverse where T’Challa became Star-Lord, the Collector became the new galactic crime boss after Thanos joined the good side. In his collection, he has a bunch of familiar weapons. It includes Mjolnir, the arm of Korg, and even Captain America’s shield. Suddenly, he pulls out the headpiece of Hela. The moment he wars it, he confirms that it is, indeed, a Necrosword. It also confirms she was using this weapon through the headgear rather than inherent ability. Of course, there’s no mention of All-Black or symbiote, but the first name drop seems relevant even in a What If scenario.

Now, the only question remains if Gorr gets his hands on this version of the Necrosword. There’s a good chance that after the events of Ragnarok, her helmet flies off into space and the hands of Gorr. While the Collector doesn’t seem to change its shape when putting it on, the heat from Surter could have warped it in the aftermath. There’s only the question about Hela’s connection to Asgard, which the What If…? episode negates with Collector wielding it. We’ll see if they potentially utilize this connection or take a different route, but it is our first naming of the Necrosword in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

  • ‘SECRET INVASION’: Marvel Studios Preparing to Start Production Soon

‘SECRET INVASION’: Marvel Studios Preparing to Start Production Soon

The Marvel Cinematic Universe continues to expand, with quite a few productions going simultaneously worldwide. Still, all eyes are on the upcoming release of Shang-Chi and the Legends of the Ten Rings, as they just recently held a red carpet event. Luckily, FabTV got a chance to chat with Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige on how he feels about the success of their franchise.

He highlighted that his focus always remains on the future, in which he discussed the various projects currently filming, which included Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, and The Marvels. What stood out was that he confirmed that Secret Invasion hasn’t started production yet, as he states they are:

Getting ready to start production on our Secret Invasion series.

It’s quite a surprise it hasn’t already been in production. Samuel L. Jackson already hinted at his return as Nick Fury in The Marvels, which he wasn’t confirmed for yet. In a way, this helps structure the upcoming production schedule, as he’ll shoot his scenes for the film first before joining the series. It’s uncertain if Ben Mendelsohn’s Talos will also appear in the sequel, but he is confirmed for the Disney+ series.

Given the character’s history, it seems likely, and they might re-use elements from the film in the spin-off series to cut down on production costs. It’s interesting to see if the series ends up taking place after the events of the film, or they might even set it up like Agents of SHIELD did with Captain America: Winter Soldier. So, the events of the film might take place during the season’s complete runtime.

  • Current State of Netflix’s ‘ONE PIECE’ Live-Action Series

Current State of Netflix’s ‘ONE PIECE’ Live-Action Series

Netflix has the tendency to greenlight a plethora of projects to bank its growing success on. It recently started venturing into live-action adaptations of classic animes. While their attempt with Death Note was questionable, the upcoming Cowboy Bebop series seems promising, but we’ve only seen the cast so far and a tease of the soundtrack. A personal highlight was the announcement to adapt the manga series One Piece.

Eiichiro Oda‘s manga series started all the way back in 1997 and still continues to this day. The upcoming series was initially announced back in 2017, it wasn’t until 2020 that they got the backing of Netflix for the series. There hasn’t been a lot of details revealed since its announcement but with hints at its production starting soon, it’s the perfect timing to explore how much we actually know about the project and what is heading our way.

    Image

As the letter above showcases, the mangaka behind the series is an active executive producer on the series and will oversee its production. X-FilesSteven Madea joined the project as its executive producer and is currently still the only official talent attached to the project. Cowboy Bebop‘s Becky Clements will also act in the same role on the series. Agents of SHIELD and Luke Cage writer Matt Owens has publicly confirmed his involvement with the project during the podcast The Reverie, and was mentioned on the official Twitter page. He even confirmed that Oda supervised the scripts. In March, the working title “Project Roger” was revealed on Madea‘s Instagram account.

This brief tease was also followed by a brief interview by SyFy with Tomorrow Studios’ Marty Adelstein, who was working on the Snowpiercer series at the time and Netflix’s adaptation of Cowboy Bebop. He also gave the following update on when we can expect casting to begin and production:

We were supposed to start filming in August in Cape Town, South Africa. We anticipate the date being able to film [now is] September, at the latest. We have basically all 10 scripts written. We will start casting when we go back. My suspicion is June 1, but we will start doing our casting. We have a lot of names that we’re talking about, and we should be in production in September. We have been working very closely with Sensei Oda. So, we’re going to get started, and this one is very big. I mean, Snowpiercer was a big production; this is even bigger.

    Marty Adelstein

There hasn’t really been any news since with only glimpses and rumors hitting the internet. If they are on track, they should be finishing up casting in the coming weeks before starting production in Cape Town Film Studios. There are rumors floating that Junie Lowry-Johnson joined the project as casting director alongside Black SailsMarc Jobst as director, but these were never confirmed. The only movement that has been seen from the production is what looks like the Merry Go being built from all the way back in March as well.

There hasn’t been much of an update since until Illuminerdi dropped the character descriptions, which hints at the ongoing casting process. It seems the only one they could hint at is Ludi Lin for the role of Zoro, but that’s it. If their schedule still holds, we might hopefully get the official castings in the coming weeks before they officially start produciton on the project. It’ll be interesting to see if we get any set photos featuring the cast and when we can expect the project to finally hit Netflix after an almost five year long wait.

  • AMC Developing Anne Rice’s ‘LIVES OF THE MAYFAIR WITCHES’ Series

AMC Developing Anne Rice’s ‘LIVES OF THE MAYFAIR WITCHES’ Series

Last year, AMC struck a deal with author Anne Rice that included the rights to 18 of her novels. It also included her best-known novel, Interview With the Vampire. They recently cast Sam Reid as the vampire Lestat. While the network is already hard at work on an adaptation of, which is indeed expected to premiere next year, a new report indicates that they have begun exploring the possibility of adapting a trilogy of Rice’s book into a second series.

According to EW, AMC is working with Esta Spaulding and Michelle Ashford (Masters of Sex) to develop Rice‘s Lives of the Mayfair Witches trilogy for TV. The novel follows Rowan Mayfair, first introduced in the 1990s The Witching Hour, as she comes face-to-face with her family’s past and a demon named Lasher. He has haunted, influenced, and molded them for centuries. The Witching Hour spent 22 weeks on the New York Times Best Seller list and was followed in the series by Lasher and Taltos. The series created a rich history and mythology around the witches and crossed over with some of Rice’s later vampire novels.

At the moment it appears AMC is simply kicking the tires on the adaptation, but should Spaulding and Ashford crack the story, a deal is already in place for Spaulding to serve as showrunner. Rice’s Mayfair witches novels have been criminally overlooked for years. Here’s hoping AMC finds the magic ingredients and makes this adaptation happen.

  • Carl Weathers Confirms ‘The Mandalorian’ Season 3’s September Production Start

Carl Weathers Confirms ‘The Mandalorian’ Season 3’s September Production Start

It seems like the production start date for The Mandalorian‘s third season has been one of the biggest mysteries as of late. We knew for a while that The Book of Boba Fett would replace its usual December release in 2021, but it was uncertain if that meant the series would start production earlier and then release throughout 2022. As time went on, there was no real news on it and it seemed like it might not release until December 2023, as Lucasfilm ventures out with other Disney+ series in the Star Wars franchise.

The Mandalorian' Reveals Baby Yoda's Real Name

Well, it seems we finally have a more clear date, as Carl Weathers revealed during a panel in Steel City Con that he’ll return as Greef Karga and also will direct at least one episode. Not just that, but he also gave us a time window with the Disney+ series entering production in September. Here is his quote from the event:

And so now, we’re gonna start a new season of The Mandalorian, within the next month. Yeah. And I get to be in front of camera again, and I get to direct again

    Carl Weathers

It’s great to finally get some kind of timeline for the production, as we’ve gotten various teases but nothing definite. We still know very little about what direction the franchise is heading with the third entry, as it continues to expand with other series like Ahsoka, which has been slowly picking up its casting in the past few weeks. They might have postponed production to also allow Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania to utilize the Volume. We can’t wait to see how Din’s story continues without Grogu by his side.

  • REPORT: ‘VELMA’ Character Descriptions Hint at HBO Max’s Reinterpretation of the Scooby Gang

REPORT: ‘VELMA’ Character Descriptions Hint at HBO Max’s Reinterpretation of the Scooby Gang

Scooby-Doo is no stranger to countless interpretations over the years. It has probably seen the most revamps of any franchise. Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated was a personal highlight due to its overarching plot and Lovecraft-inspired elements. Yet, a brand new interpretation is heading our way with a prequel series focused on Velma.

HBO Max announced the series in February, which will see Mindy Kaling starring in the titular role that wants to explore a time in the gang’s life without the titular pup. It’s certainly a surprising twist on the franchise and the Geeks WorldWide may have offered a closer look at the story threads. Here are the descriptions of the show’s interpretation of our favorite Mystery Inc. members:

Scooby-Doo Animated Prequel TV Show, Velma, Coming to HBO Max
    • It looks like Shaggy is the editor-in-chief of Poortown High’s newspaper. He’ll be on the spectrum and has a hard time handling social norms especially when he is Velma’s only real friend. It looks like there’s a family secret, which he’ll need to solve with her help. So, we’ll see what pushes him towards the type of character we know him as in the series.
    • Daphne is the adopted daughter of two female police officers, who still faces daily challenges of being abandoned. There’s a curious emphasis of her red hair and she’s quite ruthless in trying to become the popular kid in their school.
    • Some characteristics remain for Fred Jones, who’ll be a “gym rat, riddled with daddy issues.” It seems that he’ll also face the trouble of never having gone puberty and is trying to hide it from Daphne, who he is dating in the series. All it takes is a false imprisonment to get the gears in motion and he learns to value Velma.

Various character descriptions also include their parents, who might have a bigger role in the story. Scooby-Doo normally features the gang traveling the States taking down one fake ghost after another. So, only the before-mentioned Mystery Incorporated included their parents as essential characters to the mythos. Perhaps the series is taking some clues, but there’s no mention of “people in masks.”

There’s a good chance this new interpretation also moves away from the various monsters they’ve faced in the past. Overall, it’s a bit disheartening that the clichés are still present with the character, as the popular Daphne and jock Fred seem well alive in these incarnations. Who knows if the actual show twists the interpretations presented here.

“Akakiri”: Yū Miyazaki (Tsubaki), Lynn (Misa), Chō (Senshuu), Wataru Takagi (Kamahachi), Yukari Nozawa (Masago).

It’s quite an impressive cast for this anime adaptation. Not just that, it’s also a sign of how invested Disney and Lucasfilm are in the project. They believe this new direction for an anthology series may stand out and also accompanies this same approach with What If…? which includes mostly actors who previously played the characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It may be a sign for a new direction for animation and it’ll be interesting to see how this develops.

  • Another Goodbye To A Legend

    Another Goodbye To A Legend

You have to cherish things in a different way when you know the clock is ticking, you are under pressure.

None of us could’ve known the pressure Chadwick Boseman put on himself. He worked through a disease that would eventually take his life. That loss has been felt throughout all communities and lives that he’s touched. With Marvel Studios’ What If…? turning its attention to T’Challa this week, it’s going to be amazing but bittersweet.

It’s truly going to be a joy to hear Boseman’s T’Challa once more. The concept of this new Star-Lord story is a fascinating one. Comparing and contrasting the stories of Peter Quill and T’Challa will be thought provoking. The magnetism of Chadwick’s voice will be like an old friend coming back one more time to say goodbye. We should all enjoy the time we get to spend once more with this unique character.

With that being said, there’s a sadness writing these words. It still feels like we’ve been robbed as fans. Chadwick Boseman, as an artist, brought a fire and attention to detail in everything he did. Bringing Black Panther and the world of Wakanda to life was more than the simple words of live-action.

Black Panther is an inspiration to those who spent their childhood identifying with those stories. The positive energy around the movie is powerful to this day. The celebration was for black culture, and Chadwick was at the forefront of that. There’s representation in theory and actual representation in practice. If you remember Black Panther’s comic debut in the Fantastic Four it was surreal to see him debut in live-action film.

Make no mistake about it there will be laughs this coming week. There will be an enjoyment of welcoming back one of our favorite characters. It’s a fresh story that will be the talk of MCU community. In addition to that, there will be an overwhelming emotion that hits a lot of us. Whatever emotion that will be, thank you Chadwick Boseman. Thank you for inspiring us, and thank you for leaving your passion and grace in all of your work. We miss your presence and will never forget you. Rest In Peace.

  • Taking a Closer Look at the Many Potential Stories Beyond MCU’s Phase 4

Taking a Closer Look at the Many Potential Stories Beyond MCU’s Phase 4

The next overarching stories of the Marvel Cinematic Universe will be determined by the outcome of the currently dated projects. Having assessed how well these outcomes might go for our heroes, it becomes easier to make a projection about what overarching stories could happen across the next few years. So let’s take a look through the different power-threat levels of street, supernatural, global, cosmic and multiverse to see where we could be heading before the next major crossover.

    Trails of Crime

The Kingpin | Villain | Marvel Comic Reading Lists

With Hawkeye introducing more street-level characters and stories later this year, it’s easy to imagine that there might be a money trail involved in hiring the goons that are going after Clint. In the comics various mob bosses, including the Kingpin, hire Kazimierz Kazimierczak the Clown to kill Clint. So, it stands to reason there might be an overarching story of organised crime that carries through into She-Hulk and further in Echo. We’re probably only witnessing the beginnings.

In the midst of more coordinated criminal activity, more local heroes like Daredevil, Jessica Jones, as well as the Heroes for Hire will have to find ways to protect people in their neighbourhoods and eventually confront those mob bosses. Other street level heroes like Darkhawk or Squirrel Girl could join them. Maybe even Toni Masters (formerly Dreykhov) becomes involved, relying on her photographic reflexes to train low-level thugs as a way to get by on her search for her place in the world.

Whether those confrontations with the crime syndicate triumph or not, there will be multiple rivals looking to succeed the current Kingpin of Crime. It’s reasonable that in such a scenario the Kingpin might be looking towards collaboration with supportive international governments like Latveria. I wonder whether a potential successor named Parker Robbins might flourish in the Kingpin War, aftering having found a demon’s cloak belonging to Dormammu and becoming The Hood

    Supernatural Streets

Marvel's Avengers book pits Blade against Dracula in the arena of ... politics? - Polygon

Wanda Maximoff being enticed into using The Darkhold, we’ll likely see an uptick in supernatural events around the world. No doubt that the streets and ley lines of New York City make it a hub of metaphysical activity that the cult forces of Dracula and Lilith, Mother of All Demons will be drawn to. Heroes like Doctor Strange, Moon Knight and Blade will need to team-up with adventurers, which includes Ghost Rider, Man-Thing, Elsa Bloodstone, daughter of a famous monster hunter, and Werewolf by Night, who is reported to be have a series in development, to save people from paranormal activity.

At this point, it’s only a question of time before a full explosion of demonic cults spring up. Especially as Ghost Rider might join Marvel Studios’ filmography sooner than later. Alternatively, another scenario these heroes could find themselves allied with crime syndicate boss The Hood who discovers a zombie-esque virus. It’s enacted by Dormammu to conquer Earth. Although the Cosmic Conqueror is likely to be defeated in this endeavour, as it feels like the Mindless Ones might be more of a magic threat that the Midnight Sons and the Avengers might have to team-up for.

    Global Witch Hunt

Wandas Kräfte verändert: Hier wurde die Überraschung schon vor „WandaVision“ verraten · KINO.de

Another street level meets supernatural event could be the formation of the Young Avengers. There are few events in the MCU that cause new teams to form, especially comprising street level characters and assorted other power levels. A missing Avenger might be one of those causations. It’s not hard to imagine that Cassie Lang, Kate Bishop and Eli Bradley might know each other through online Avengers tracking communities or even an early get-together with Teddy Altman. He’s hidden on earth with the Lang family, in the midst of Kree/Skrull attacks as they search for a ‘hybrid’ on Earth.

It’s not hard to imagine these young heroes might be alerted if Wiccan and Speed are on a global search for their missing multiversal-mother. It’s also possible Billy and Tommy are joined by their new friends from recent adventures with Kid Loki and America Chavez. They might need to face-off against Kree and Skrull units as they go on a children’s crusade that could take them across the globe. Perhaps it leads them to the once faded but now rising from the ashes country of Latveria. We explored the idea of an adaptation of the Children’s Crusade storyline, which you can check out here. The uniting of such an assorted team on such an adventure could possibly bring them into the sights of other global players.

    New Global Avengers

Captain America: Sam Wilson's Ideals Will Change the Avengers

From where we are now we can see that there might be two action-espionage teams forming within a global scale. While Sam Wilson has stepped up to claim the mantle of Captain America, he will likely still be put under a lot of scrutiny. Perhaps some of this could be alleviated with Sam publicly leading a team, and even getting his “Avengers Assemble’” moment. So, the question remains who this global time might consist of.

Shang-Chi seems likely to join forces with those that can help him achieve his goals. Perhaps Jane Foster’s Mighty Thor might be compelled to protect New Asgard, which has imbued her with power while her namesake is on cosmic adventures. Similarly there might be aliens like Hercules who have been chased from their homes by Gorr The God Butcher, and now want to set-up home on the planet. It could lead to the return of Sersi and Dane Whitman, who’ll get called into action due to their past.

Whether this team will be joined by a Wakandan hero on the international stage is still very much an open question. Of course this team could easily be rounded out by regulars like Bucky, Ant-Man, The Wasp, and War Machine. Rhodey will have recently tangled with the possible results of Sharon Carter’s Power Broker after she sold off Stark Tech plans. Regardless of who joins this team, it seems they will likely have a rivalry with another global team.

    Rival Dark Avengers

How Wyatt Russell Reacted the First Time He Saw US Agent's Suit - Black Movie Star

Contessa Valentina Allegra de Fontaine is recruiting a team and we met its first true member. She tells John Walker, the slightly unstable super-soldier that “things are about to get weird.” She also refers to Baron Zemo as “our friend,” indicating she might have some plans for him as well. Yelena Belova is the final recruit knwon about, and it seems Yelena has been working for Val for some time already, jokingly asking for a raise and saying she shouldn’t be bothered on holiday.

It makes you wonder if Val knows about Agatha Harkness being trapped in Westview as ‘Agnes’ and what kind of bargain she might strike for freeing her. Whatever Val’s aims are, they seem an antagonism to our heroes, which could set up a rivalry between these newly formed teams. The only question is what would lead to them confronting each other. Is Val already looking to head off the Secret Invasion? Is a war brewing between Kree and Skrulls once again in their hunt for a ‘hybrid’?

There are many possibliites they might take with this new team. She might plan a siege on New Asgard, or other iconic locations from the comics. Perhaps a new type of humans have been steadily growing in numbers that need more control. Her machinations will surely become clearer over the next year or two. This global rivalry between these two teams will surely have to give way eventually as another global threat too big for one team alone emerges.

    Cosmic Politics

Who Are Marvel's 'Eternals' Cast Members and Who Are They Playing

There are likely to be various cosmic conflicts that could coalesce into a wider galactic struggle. As there are a significant number of Eternals, it stands to reason that some of them might stay protecting Earth while others adventure off into space in search of their creators, the Celestials. The ancient Celestial experiments could become the catalysts for a wider galactic war. New Asgard can be the connection point between Earth and the Cosmos, especially now that Thor Odinson ventured out with the Guardians of the Galaxy.

It is possible that he might continue his adventures in space while Jane Foster uses a repaired Mjolnir on Earth. Gorr The God Butcher will undoubtedly interrupt this space adventure. His rampage might introduce us to other pantheons like the Olympians and Tuatha De Danann, as they are attacked and in search of new habitats across the universe. Perhaps New Asgard can become a home for all of them? Will Valkyrie and her queen be able to unite peoples beyond Asgardians?

    Cosmic Invasion

Nick Fury kehrt ins MCU zurück: Avengers-Gründer erhält eigene Serie bei Disney+ · KINO.de

It’s likely that similar political negotiations might fall on the heads of Nick Fury, Talos and Captain Marvel with each of the three of them having a crossover stake in the Kree-Skrull conflict that will likely engulf the galaxy. With the Skrull invasion of Earth and the Kree Empire trying to get it’s hands on Carol Danvers, Kamala Khan and Teddy Altman for various reasons suggest there will be a continued focus on Earth within the wider politics of the galaxy. It’s not hard to imagine, when taken, to extremes this might include open invasion and attacks that combined cosmic and earthbound heroes.

We might see the involvement of characters like Nova, Abigail Brand and The Fantastic Four to keep these threats at bay. The Guardians are likely to split up and some of their remaining members could pop-up elsewhere. Perhaps in the deepest quarters of space at a catina we might see the Starjammers, as we explore new locations across the galaxy. Both the exploration of Terrans into deeper parts of space and the Kree-Skrull-Earth conflict spreading across galaxies might attract the attention of cosmic threats like Galactus or Annihilus, who will require a bigger team up than just the cosmically powered heroes.

    Mutliversal Conquest

Loki' Reveals Kang the Conqueror. What to Know About Marvel's Next Villain

It looks like the multiverse will get more chaotic and dangerous throughout the next dimensional-timeline adventures of Loki, Captain Carter, Doctor Strange, and Ant-Man. Each of these characters can suffer heavy tolls from their impending exploits. The multiverse won’t disappear and the impact of different branching timelines won’t halt after what we can see on the horizon.

As the Loki Variant L1130 witnesed the cracking of the multiverse, it seems his next adventures could involve escaping a Variant of Kang the Conquerer that has taken over the TVA while trying to find the more revolutionary version he left Mobius and Hunter B-15 with. They might form a version of the Exiles to fix the broken timelines, as different versions of the TVA face each other. Whatever the answer is, it will likely be entwined with how Loki and Sylvie heal their rift.

    Multiversal Madness

Scene Discussion #73 - Stephen Strange Introduced to the Multiverse | Fandom

As Captain Carter continues to try and guard the multiverse, perhaps her further feats with Uatu might lead her to Merlyn and Roma. From there it’s easy to envisage how she might become first of the Captain Britain Corps with a duty to guard the wider omniverse. Along the way, it’s highly likely she will encounter our favourite heroes. Her actions might also echo from Strange’s upcoming adventure.

While he will tackle the various timelines intersecting, there are a few new paths before him.
