CONFIRMED: ‘Reservation Dogs’ Actor Devery Jacobs Joins ‘Echo’

Production on one of the next Marvel Studios series for Disney+, Echo, has already kicked as confirmed by star Alaqua Cox via Instagram. In the post where she confirmed the production start, she revealed that star of Reservation Dogs, Devery Jacobs, had sent her flowers wishing her luck on the first day and telling her she would “see her soon.” This led to us speculating that Jacobs could be playing a role in Echo and it seems that turned out to be true.

Deadline has confirmed that Jacobs has indeed joined the upcoming Disney+ original series focusing on Maya Lopez. Although her role remains unknown, the trade believes that Jacobs could be playing the character of Julie, which we speculated in our Connecting Imaginary Dots piece as Jacobs matched the description of the character quite well.

This is the second casting for the series, with Jacobs joining both Cox and the previously announced Graham Greene in an undisclosed role. The series is also rumored to feature the return of Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio as Matt Murdock and Wilson Fisk, which will see the two reunited following Daredevil season 3’s cancellation.

It was announced back in March of last year, months before Cox made her debut as Echo that the deaf, Native American hero would be returning in her very own solo series. Cox made her debut as the character in Hawkeye, which premiered late last year and saw the character working alongside Wilson Fisk, before turning on him and leaving town.

Echo is currently in production and has no set release date.

  • RUMOR: ‘The Batman’s Penguin Spinoff May Start Production in June

RUMOR: ‘The Batman’s Penguin Spinoff May Start Production in June

The Batman is all the rage right now with the film just recently hitting HBO Max and crossing $750 million at the worldwide box office. So far, it’s one of the year’s biggest hits. In its first week the film quickly became HBO Max’s second-highest streamed film ever, and its most-streamed DC film, topping the likes of The Suicide Squad, Wonder Woman 1984, and Zack Snyder’s Justice League. The road doesn’t end there, however, as we’re set to return to Gotham city exclusively on HBO Max much sooner than we originally thought.

HBO Max will bring us back to the world of The Batman will the upcoming limited series following Oswald Cobblepott as he rises to power in Gotham’s darkest hour and the death of Carmine Falcon, becoming The Penguin we’ve all come to love. It seems production on the show may begin a lot sooner than we anticipated as a listing has revealed that the series will start on June 15th in Los Angeles.

There has been no official word on this start date and a lot of details are still murky on the project. As it’s something that can also change, it’s unsure if they’ll stick with this production start. We have yet to get any new casting, as well as hear who may be directing this series or any specific episodes. This news comes just a few days after Warner Bros. and Matt Reeves took to the CinemaCon stage to announce that a sequel to The Batman is in development with Reeves returning to write and direct, with Robert Pattinson set to don the cape and cowl once again.

  • First Details On ‘Halloween Ends’ From CinemaCon

First Details On ‘Halloween Ends’ From CinemaCon

Back in 2018, the Halloween reboot brought the franchise back from the dead, and featured the return of the original scream queen, Jamie Lee Curtis as Laurie Strode. The critical and financial success of the film led Universal to green-light two sequels with Halloween Kills, followed by Halloween Ends, with both films set to release back to back in 2021 and 2022. Now, with October quickly approaching, the studio has unveiled the first footage from Halloween Ends during CinemaCon.

Erik Davis, who was in attendance at the event, teased the footage, as well as Curtis’ last appearance as Laurie. Curtis, who was on hand for the footage, teased, “This Halloween we will experience Laurie’s last stand. Trust me, it’s going to f*ck you up.” Considering how Halloween Kills ended, Laurie is probably doing everything in her power to put Michael down once and for all.

Unfortunately, as none of the footage presented at this event seems to be making its way online, those in attendance are providing us with the best descriptions of said footage. The first look at the film presented at the Universal panel featured Laurie facing off against Michael in a kitchen, with Michael throwing Laurie across the room. Laurie then stabbed Michael through the hand, with the last shot revealing Laurie having trapped Michael.

Halloween Ends will hit theaters on October 14th, 2022.

  • RUMOR: Man-Thing May Appear in Marvel Studios’ Untitled Halloween Special

RUMOR: Man-Thing May Appear in Marvel Studios’ Untitled Halloween Special

The supernatural side of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is in full bloom as projects like Blade and the upcoming Halloween special are set to explore that side of the world. The special is rumored to focus on the character Werewolf By Night, a lycan that has been around the Marvel Universe since 1972, with Gael Garcia Bernal set to paly the role. As we await confirmation on the Halloween special, it seems yet another creepy character will debut in the special.

The folks over at the Cosmic Circus are reporting that none other then Man-Thing is set to make his MCU debut in the upcoming special. This rumor comes after last months rumblings of a Man-Thing-focused Halloween special from Screen Geek, but it seems these could possibly be the same project.

The role is reportedly a cameo in the special with the character supposedly being partially practical effects. We previously reported on a rumor from After Hours Media in which they discovered the folks from Universals Halloween Horror Nights working on the projects practical make-up for the character of Jack Russell.

The special is shaping up to be quite the monster mash if these rumors pan out with Cosmic Circus reporting just a few days ago that actress Laura Donnelly would be playing Elsa Bloodstone, a famous marvel universe monster hunter.

No release date for the Halloween special has been set just yet, as the project still remains unannounced by Marvel Studios. We do know however that composer Michael Giacchino will make his directing debut with this, which we expect to release sometime this October.

  • Warner Bros. Debuts ‘Black Adam’ Trailer at CinemaCon

Warner Bros. Debuts ‘Black Adam’ Trailer at CinemaCon

Having been cast in the role since 2007, Dwayne Johnson will finally make his long-awaited arrival as the man in black, and the hierarchy of power in the DC universe will never be the same. At least that’s what we’ve been told as Black Adam has still yet to release after multiple delays. Luckily, CinemaCon has come and brought with it the Warner Brothers panel, giving us some updates on the upcoming film.

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is a showman and show he did put on for those in attendance at Warner Bros. Big Picture showcase. Johnson first appeared via screen, saying he couldn’t make it, but he ended up surprising everyone as he took the stage, saying it just “didn’t feel right” to not be there in person to show off everything he’s been working on.

Those in attendance were treated to the very first trailer for Black Adam, featuring the man himself in his days as a slave and seeing him be reborn as with the powers of the Wizard Shazam. There are scenes with Doctor Fate telling Adam he can be the worlds destroyer or be its savior, as well as another scene where he is told that heroes do not kill, responding that he does. The trailer doesn’t give away much plot wise, but is gives a brief look into what you can expect from the movie.

Johnson had the audience scream quite loud, revealing that the recorded audio would actually be used in the film during a “big battle scene.”

The film was initially set to release on July 27th, 2022, but it was pushed back a few months and is now set to hit theaters on Oct. 21st, 2022.

Warner Bros. Teases ‘Shazam: Fury of The Gods’ at CinemaCon

CinemaCon has finally arrived and brought along plenty of news for movie fans, especially those of the DC Extended Universe. On Tuesday evening, Warner Bros. Discovery took to the stage to hint at its forthcoming slate. While the studio was sure to highlight a vast array of films, most of its presentation was focused on highlighting many of its DC releases like The FlashBlack Adam, Aquaman andthe Lost Kingdom, and of course, Shazam: Fury of The Gods

CinemaCon brought us some new details on the film, with some new footage debuting at the event with stars Zachary LeviAsher AngelHelen Mirren, and Jack Dylan Grazer who were on stage to present. The panel featured some brand new footage from the film, opening with Billy having a dream that he was on a date with Wonder Woman in which she turns into the Wizard Shazam. The footage also featured the daughters of Atlas and Mirrens’ Hespera fighting Shazam.

In the footage with Billy fighting Hespera, he mentions that he has seen the Fast and The Furious movies and knows that saving the world is all about family, with the Shazam family showing up to aid the champion.

Fans were delighted to hear back in March that the sequel to 2019’s Shazam! would indeed be released much earlier than expected. Initially set to release on June 2nd, 2023, the film will hit theaters this holiday season on Dec. 16th, 2022. Fans will have to wait just a little bit longer to get a look at some footage from the film presented looks to be going public right now.

  • BREAKING: ‘The Batman’ Sequel Officially In Development

BREAKING: ‘The Batman’ Sequel Officially In Development

Back in March, the world was introduced to Matt Reeves‘ take on Gotham City and the Batman mythos with the fittingly named The Batman. The film was a resounding hit, finding universal praise from fans and critics alike. Not only did it manage to bring in over $750 million at the worldwide box office, but now it’s also dominating on HBO Max, quickly becoming the most-watched DC film in its first week with 4.1 million households streaming the film. With success like that, a sequel announcement to the film was only a question of time.

At the Warner Brothers panel during CinemaCon, Reeves is also confirmed to return to direct the upcoming sequel. Robert Pattinson will, of course, return as the caped crusader, but the plot details of the film are still unknown. Still, it seems that they plan to have the team from the first entry return for the sequel that’ll continue Bruce Wayne’s story of realizing what it means to be a symbol for his city.

We might still have to wait a bit until we get our first look or even tease what the sequel will be about, but it seems likely it’ll build upon the ending of the first film as Gotham is flooded. Batman having to save civilians while a new threat shows its fangs would make for a unique backdrop and challenge in a Batman film.

  • ‘Wicked’ Film Now Split Into Two Parts

‘Wicked’ Film Now Split Into Two Parts

Here’s another film that you could possibly find under “development hell” in the dictionary, the long-awaited big-screen adaption of the hit broadway musical, Wicked. The project has been in development since 2004, never finding its footing and failing to happen. Things seem to finally be in motion with Jon M. Chu at the helm of the project. While production still ended up getting delayed, it seems some creative changes behind the project have lead to us getting a little more Wicked than we bargained for.

Chu himself took to Twitter to announce that the Wicked film would now be split into two, rather than cram the entire musical into one. He went on to explain that it would be impossible to do the project justice by only doing one film, citing that they attempted to cut songs or reduce character arcs but it just wasn’t working out. This led to the decision to turn the adaption into a two-parter.

Back in October, it was announced that production on Wicked would be delayed till the summer of 2022 with filming now set to take place over in the UK. Currently, the musical adaption only has two stars attached, with Ariana Grande set to play Glinda and Cynthia Erivo set to play the role of Elphaba. With production set to kick off here in a few months it seems likely we could be hearing more news on that front at any moment.

Wicked is currently set to release in December of 2024, but no specific date has been announced just yet. It is unknown if the films will shoot back to back as of right now.

  • ‘Super Mario Bros.’ Movie Delayed Until 2023

‘Super Mario Bros.’ Movie Delayed Until 2023

Last September, Nintendo made headlines as it announced the voice cast for its animated film based on the highly popular Mario franchise. The internet went crazy as it was revealed that Chris Pratt had been cast as the titular plumber, along with Jack Black as Bowser, and Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong. The film has been in the works for quite some time, and it was finally set to release this year during the holiday season, but it looks like things may have changed.

Originally set for a release date of Dec. 21st, 2022, Super Mario Bros. has been delayed four months and is now set to hit theaters on April 7th, 2023. Unfortunately, for Japanese fans, the delay is a tad bit longer with a April 28th Japanese release. No reason was specified for the film’s delay, but its likely just due to not being able to have it done in time and after the last Mario movie, they probably want to make sure they have it just right.

Shigeru Miyamoto announced the delay himself through the Nintendo of America Twitter account, detailing that he spoke with the films producer Chris Meledandri and the two decided that the film would be delayed and that it would be ,”well worth the wait.” The film’s release date will now be occupied by Puss In Boots: The Last Wish, which was originally set to release on Sept. 9th, 2022.

Along with Pratt, Black, and Rogen, the film will feature the likes of Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Fred Armisen as Cranky Kong, and Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek, and Sebastian Maniscalco as Spike.

  • ‘Venom 3’ Officially in Development at Sony

‘Venom 3’ Officially in Development at Sony

While the Venom films are far from a critical success, the films have proven to be a success for Sony. The first film was a surprising box office hit, and its sequel, Venom: Let There Be Carnage, delivered what many fans wanted to see with the arrival of Carnage. It went on to gross $502 million globally in midst of a pandemic, so a third entry into the franchise seemed like a no-brainer and things already seem to be in motion on it.

Sony’s CinemaCon panel brought quite a bit of news regarding its work with the library of Marvel characters at its disposal and towards the tail end of the showcase, the studio confirmed that Venom 3 is indeed in the works.

We received no other details on the project, but we can assume that Tom Hardy will return as the lethal protector. No writer or director has been announced for the project, but Let There Be Carnage saw Andy Serkis take the reigns of the franchise from Ruben Fleischer, and it’s possible that Serkis could indeed return to direct.

The last time we saw Hardy as the character was at the tail-end of Spider-Man: No Way Home, where we found his intoxicated and stranded in the Marvel Cinematic Universe trying to process the happenings of that world and its inhabitants like Iron Man and Hulk. Eddie Brock found himself pulled back to his own universe suddenly but left behind a droplet of the symbiote, which we assume will find its way to Tom Holland’s Spider-Man in the future.

No release date has been announced for the film
