‘Gen V:’ Michele Fazekas to Run Season 2 as Writers Room Opens

The Boys spinoff, Gen V, has yet to premiere its first season, but that isn’t stopping Prime Video from looking ahead to Season 2. Deadline reports that, while an official season two has not been ordered, a writers’ room is being set up for a second season. The outlet has also reported that Michele Fazekas (Agent Carter) will lead the room and serve as the sole showrunner for Season 2.

Fazekas served as a co-showrunner alongside frequent collaborator, Tara Butters (Agent Carter), however, Butters will not be returning for Season 2. The decision not to return seems to be on Butters’ end, as the producer has some personal matters to tend to. Deadline reports that Butters is hoping to return to writing and producing down the line.

Gen V, a spinoff from The Boys, will focus on America’s only college exclusively for young adult superheroes that just so happens to be run by Vought International. The project stars Jaz Sinclair, Chance Perdomo, Lizze Broadway, Shelley Conn, Maddie Phillips, London Thor, Derek Luh, Asa Germann, Patrick Schwarzenegger, Sean Patrick Thomas, and Marco Pigossi.

Gen V, of course, had a bumpy production during its first season. The series saw numerous recastings and changes in showrunners. However, it seems Prime Video is high on the series, which will finally debut sometime this year.

  • DC Executives Are Considering Keeping Ezra Miller as the Flash

DC Executives Are Considering Keeping Ezra Miller as the Flash

On Wednesday, Variety released an in-depth look at Black Adam, the Superman cameo, and Dwayne Johnson‘s bid to take over DC for Warner Bros. Discovery. While the article mainly focused on Black Adam and its box office fumble, it briefly touched on Henry Cavill‘s brief return as the Man of Steel before looking ahead to DC’s future. While little is known regarding what new DC Studio heads James Gunn and Peter Safran have planned, it seems like some of DC’s past could live on.

After various legal issues, many expected Ezra Miller to be let go as Barry Allen, aka the Flash, following the release of The Flash this Summer. However, per Variety, because Miller has stayed out of trouble since he issued an apology last year and sought mental health help, some executives are said to be on board with keeping the actor around.

Given that Miller has stayed out of trouble since beginning mental health treatment in the summer, some executives are amenable to continuing with the actor as the world-saving speedster after “The Flash” bows on June 16.

Should Miller be kept on board, he might be the only actor to be kept from the Snyderverse. As of now, Wonder Woman 3 isn’t happening, and it remains to be seen what Gal Gadot‘s future is as the hero. Cavill is, of course, out as the studio is looking to recast a younger Superman. Jason Momoa is expected to end his time as Aquaman, only to potentially be brought back as Lobo down the line.

  • ‘Avatar: The Way of Water’ Swims Past $500 Million Worldwide

‘Avatar: The Way of Water’ Swims Past $500 Million Worldwide

After less than a week in release, Avatar: The Way of Water has already nabbed a huge milestone at the box office. As of Tuesday, the movie has surpassed $500 million at the worldwide box office. However, while an impressive feat, The Way of Water still has a ways to go before it is deemed profitable. (The sequel to 2009’s Avatar is said to have cost around $350 million.) Luckily for The Way of Water, though, it’s expected to continue to dominate the box office in the coming weeks.

It took just five days for Avatar: The Way of Water to reach $500 million worldwide, and it’s thought that the movie will cross $1 billion at the box office before the New Year. It’s of note that, outside of The Way of Water, only seven other films have surpassed $500 million at the box office this year. The movie pulled in $18.3 million domestically and $40.5 million internationally on Tuesday, bringing its collective haul to $555.9 million.

While the film should continue to do decent business at the box office, with the movies never fully recovering from the pandemic, it’s doubtful it’ll achieve the heights of its predecessor. That film, of course, pulled in $760 million domestically and $2.92 billion globally.

Avatar: The Way of Water is now playing in theaters.

  • The Rock Comments on Black Adam’s Future on the Big Screen

The Rock Comments on Black Adam’s Future on the Big Screen

On Tuesday, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson confirmed Black Adam’s future within the DC Universe. The actor revealed he connected with James Gunn, the new co-head of DC Studios, about Black Adam’s future on the big screen. And as expected, there are currently no plans to bring back Black Adam just yet — at least, not in the “first chapter of storytelling” for the new DC Studios.

“James and I connected, and Black Adam will not be in their first chapter of storytelling. However, DC and Steve Bucks have agreed to continue exploring the most valuable ways Black Adam can be utilized in future DC multiverse chapters,” he tweeted. “James and I have known each other for years and have always rooted for each other to succeed. It’s no different now, and I will always root for DC (and Marvel) to win and WIN BIG.”

News that Black Adam will not be included in DC Studios’ “first chapter of storytelling” comes after the film massively underperformed at the box office. It was doubtful that Johnson would return as the anti-hero, especially as the studio is said to be seeking to start from scratch. As of now, it’s unclear what DC Studios is planning, outside of a new Superman movie featuring a new, younger actor. More details are expected to become available at some point next month.

  • REVIEW: ‘Letterkenny’ Season 11

    REVIEW: ‘Letterkenny’ Season 11

After leading man Jared Keeso took some time to focus on the Letterkenny spinoff, Shoresy, he has returned for Season 11 of Letterkenny and… it’s a mixed bag. Letterkenny has always been one of those shows that wasn’t designed for everyone. The humor can be crude. The characters can be hard to relate to. And the show can often feel like there’s no real point to it. In the end, though, Letterkenny always delights, even with its faults. Unfortunately, though, Season 11 takes a bit longer to get going and the episodes themselves never really feel cohesive.

Letterkenny is a weird show. There’s no denying as much. It’s a weird show that is packed full of humor and proves Keeso, who helped to create both Letterkenny and Shoresy, is incredibly talented. However, following the excellent first season of Shoresy, it’s hard to return to Letterkenny as it is. Keeso as Shoresy is just excellent, and there’s something special about that character and his journey not to be such an asshole. Letterkenny, which does briefly bring back Shoresy this season, feels like much of the same. The ladies remain wonderful – especially Katie and Gail – and the Skids remain the best part of the series. But while those characters continue to grow – yes, even Stewart – it never really feels like Wayne and the others do.

That isn’t to say Letterkenny is bad. It’s not. It’s still great, but Season 11 takes a bit to get going. The “Chips” episode feels pointless and is ultimately a weird choice to kick off the season. Had it been done as a special episode? That would’ve been great, but again, as a season opener, it feels like a poor decision. There’s no real value to be gained from the episode. Is it funny? Yes. Does it serve a purpose? Absolutely not. Thankfully, by episode three, the show regains its footing for the season and begins to build out a story across the remainder of the episodes. Said story focuses on the always crude Gail, played wonderfully by Lisa Codrington, and her questionable choices. One of Letterkenny‘s biggest strengths is that it always its female characters to be realistic and that includes allowing them to be sexual beings. Gail makes some poor decisions this season, that allows the rest of the characters to explore actual issues faced by women daily, and still finds a way to make it an important topic while keeping things light-handed. It’s one thing that Letterkenny does better than most shows these days. It isn’t afraid to let its female characters exist. Flaws and all.

Once the season finds a real starting point, it’s smooth sailing from that point forward. The show brings back the always fantastic Glen, who is as ridiculous as ever, to work with Clark Backo‘s Rosie on finding a missing dog. The hilarity that ensues from that point on, courtesy of the Dicks, is a great reminder of what makes Letterkenny so great. But then the show takes a minor stumble yet again in the final episode of the season. As always, Wayne and company continue to have each other’s backs, which is great. However, there are only so many times a season can end with a big fight that is only briefly shown before it cuts to the end credits.

And yet, with an uneven start and a finish that literally feels like an ending used before, Letterkenny‘s eleventh season isn’t as strong as those before it. However, with a strong first (?) season of Shoresy, one has to imagine Keeso and company still have plenty more in stock for the Letterkenny crew and can easily deliver a hell of a twelfth season. Because there’s no way a Season 12 isn’t on the horizon.

Showtime has given an early renewal to its hit series, Yellowjackets. The news was announced on Thursday afternoon. • Lee Isaac Chung to Direct ‘Twister’ Sequel

Lee Isaac Chung to Direct ‘Twister’ Sequel

Lee Isaac Chung will direct the sequel to Twister. The news comes courtesy of Deadline with the outlet revealing Chung won the gig following an extensive search that was said to have top directors chasing the job. Talks are still early, however, the Oscar-nominated director is expected to helm the long-awaited sequel, Twisters, for Universal Pictures and Amblin Entertainment.

Twisters was first announced in October after Universal and Amblin fast-tracking the project after they received Mark L. Smith‘s screenplay. At the time of that news, it was thought the studio might seek to try and get Helen Hunt to return for the sequel, with the hope being that the story would focus on her character’s daughter she had with the character played by the late Bill Paxton, who has caught the storm-chasing bug like her parents. As it currently stands, though, no cast is attached to the project. Universal and Amblin are simply focused on closing Chung’s deal.

Should a deal take, Twisters will mark Chung’s first tentpole film following the successful Minari. The director is said to have impressed executives following a one-on-one last week, which saw him relate his own experiences growing up on a farm in Arkansas and taking cover in storm cellars when a tornado would come.

As of right now, Twisters does not yet have a release date.

  • Warner Bros. Discovery to License Canceled HBO Max Shows Like ‘Westworld’

Warner Bros. Discovery to License Canceled HBO Max Shows Like ‘Westworld’

HBO Max shocked fans everywhere when it canceled Westworld after four seasons. The series, thought to be one of HBO Max’s biggest series, was canceled in November. At the time, it was unclear exactly why the show was canned, especially as it was rumored not to be over budgetary reasons. However, it looks like Westworld – along with other canceled titles – will have a chance at a new life.

It was revealed on Wednesday that Warner Bros. Discovery was seeking to license some of its canceled and pulled programming to third-party free ad-supported television channels. The move comes as HBO Max readies to remove titles like Westworld, The Nevers, Raised by Wolves, FBoy Island, Legendary and The Time Traveler’s Wife from the service.

In a statement released to the press, Westworld creators Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy celebrated the possibility of getting their series in front of new audiences. “We are incredibly proud of ‘Westworld’ and the remarkable work of our cast and crew. We are excited to have the opportunity to welcome a whole new audience to our show.”

Shows produced by Warner Bros. will be easier to license, while other projects like Gordita Chronicles and Love Life, which hail from Sony Pictures Television and Lionsgate Television, respectively, will prove to be a bit more complicated in the dealmaking process as those studios will have say over the negotiation process of any potential deals.
