Chris Evans is looking to return to the world of action films as he joins Dwayne Johnson‘s latest action-comedy film Red One for Amazon. The film, directed by Jumanji helmer Jake Kasdan, is described as “a globe-trotting, four-quadrant action-adventure comedy, imagining a whole new universe to explore within the holiday genre,” which sounds like a holiday version of the similarly titled Red Notice.
Evans hasn’t been in films much since his 2019 victory lap with Avengers: Endgame and the hit mystery film Knives Out. This year sees his return in Pixar’s Lightyear and The Gray Man, a film directed by The Russo Brothers.
After James Gunn and Peter Safran took over as co-chairs of the newly formed DC Studios, Gunn revealed that the project was still in development and noted that IF it ended up being produced, it would be under DC Studios Elseworlds banner.
The King’s Man is opening in theaters across the country todayOur own Hunter Radesi recently got a chance to sit down with stars Djimon Hounsou and Rhys Ifans for an extensive interview. Talk naturally turned to their roles in the prequel film in Matthew Vaughn’s acclaimed Kingsman series where Ifans is playing the villainous Grigori Rasputin, while Hounsou is playing Shola, one of the first King’s men. In the interview, Hounsou talked about some of what fans can expect regarding the fight scenes and how he made sure it was him doing the fighting.
Of course I did quite a bit of extensive training. Rhys and I had different times scheduled for training, but we knew the choreography going into it. We’ve never gone off on each other like that though, so we were trying to save that for later so that we wouldn’t hurt one another. That’s one way to look at it, but it was a tough one to do.
The conversation naturally pivoted to Hounsou’s experience in fight scenes, beginning with Blood Diamond and then being fleshed out in other films:
I’ve obviously done a lot of fight sequences before. Action is something that I like and that I enjoy doing, but on this one with Matthew (Vaughn), I had no idea to what degree he requests and demands the action to be more epic than we’ve ever seen. More different and more engaging than we’ve ever seen. That came with a bit of a price tag, in terms of physicality.
As Hounsou said, he’s no stranger to action sequences, having starred in the films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the Fast and the Furious franchise; however, as the trailers have indicated, audiences are in for something special with what he’s put on film in The King’s Man which isnow playing in theaters.
The writing was on the wall. Our first clues came in Episode 4 and those clues allowed for a reasonable claim to be made that Laura Barton was, at one time, an Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D.; And now, following the events of the season finale of Hawkeye, it’s been made very clear: Laura Barton is S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent 19, aka Mockingbird.
Since Avengers: Age of Ultron, fans have theorized that Laura might once have been an Agent. The finale of Hawkeye put any doubt to rest by revealing that the watch fans have been speculating about since Episode 1 did, in fact, belong to her. The back watch, which Clint indicated was “tied to her identity”, bore a S.H.I.E.L.D. logo and the number 19. As established in the comics, Agent 19 was the designation of Barbara “Bobbi” Morse, a level 6 agent who also went by the code name Mockingbird. Morse went on to marry Clint, joined the Avengers and founded the West Coast Avengers before “dying” and then playing a key role in the Secret Invasion event. In the 2010 series, Hawkeye and Mockingbird, it was also revealed that, with the help of Nick Fury, Morse faked her death, left S.H.I.E.L.D, had her files classified and went off the grid for 8 years before her past with Barton brought her back into action.
It’s not much of a stretch, given the emphasis placed on the watch and its ties to someone’s identity who Clint says has “been out of the game for a while”, that the MCU’s Laura Barton once went by a different name and similarly relied on the help of Nick Fury, who we know helped set up Clint’s family with a nice farm house. Laura was Agent 19; Agent 19 was Mockingbird; Mockingbird was Bobbi Morse; “Laura” was Bobbi Morse.
Of course, this creates quite the conundrum. Over two seasons of the ABC series Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Bobbi Morse was played by Adrianne Palicki. Her Morse had no ties to Clint Barton and has never appeared in or been referenced in any other MCU projects. The character was supposed to co-lead an AoS spinoff, Marvel’s Most Wanted, but that project was canceled in 2016. Marvel Studios with no hope of being picked up down the road.F
While fans of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. are scrambling to come up ways to explain it (Palicki’s Morse wasn’t called Mockingbird in the show, Laura hasn’t been called Mockingbird either, etc.) It seems incredibly unlikely that Marvel Studios would have both a Bobbi Morse and a separate character who goes by both of Morse’s aliases, Agent 19 and Mockingbird. In almost all cases, the simplest explanation is almost always the best one and, in this case, the simplest explanation is that the events of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. are not canon, at least not within the so-called Sacred Timeline. It is far, far more likely that, like the events of Spider-Man or The Amazing Spider-Man, the events of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. took place in another universe and that in the Sacred Timeline, Laura Barton EXACTLY who Hawkeye told us she was: Agent 19, aka Mockingbird, ask Barbara “Bobbi” Morse.
With the MCU expanding into so many new corners, numerous fan-favorite characters are making their live-action debuts. One character in particular that people are eager to see adapted is Nova. The character first appeared in 1976 and has served as both a protector of Earth and one of the galaxy’s greatest heroes.
The opening of Avengers: Infinity War seemingly set up a possible origin story for Richard Rider, with Thanos decimating Xandar off-screen it in pursuit of the Power Stone. During the press rounds for that film, Kevin Feige teased the “immediate potential” of the character, but over three years later, he’s still yet to be seen. In a recent interview with Comicbook.com, Feige was asked if it was more likely we’d see the Human Rocket introduced in his own project or in another film. And as he often does, Feige didn’t give much of an answer:
It’s a good question, it’s a good question. We have plenty, you know it depends…we oftentimes…see Black Panther is a great example! We were always working a Black Panther standalone. The world of Wakanda, how to dive into that. Then the opportunity for him to appear first in Civil War came up. So it always varies.
Kevin Feige
Feige definitely seems to be hinting here that Nova could indeed appear in another project in a smaller, supporting role before eventually spinning off into his own project. With so much focus on Xandar in the Guardians of The Galaxy films, and Vol. 3 currently in production, it feels like it might be the best place for the character to debut.
Marvel Studios Eternals is now in theaters and the Marvel Legends Eternals wave is readily available in stores and online. Previously, we took a look at the 6″ Marvel Legends Makkari and the Deluxe 6″ Marvel Legends Kro. Now, we’ve gotten our hands on a 6″ Ikaris and are ready to have a look!
Of the Eternals in the film, Ikaris is the really the only one whose powers could translate to a collectible figure of this nature. While Makkari’s super-speed looked amazing in the film, it’s not something that can easily be simulated for a Marvel Legend. Ikaris, on the other hand, has the ability emit energy blasts from his eyes and that is nicely teased here with an alternate head complete with some energy effects. So while, as mentioned in the Makkari review, the wave is one of Marvel’s most minimalist, this figure does allow for collectors to recreate one of the film’s iconic moments and one Ikaris’ most iconic comic book poses:
It seems like store shelves are pretty well-stocked with the Eternals wave, so should you be a completist collector of MCU-inspired Marvel Legends, you should have no problem adding Ikaris to your collection. If you’re buying to complete the wave’s BAF, Gilgamesh, Ikaris is not a necessity, as he doesn’t include a piece, but the figure is probably the most impressive of the line.
The Eternals are a race of immortal aliens from a distant planet who arrived on Earth thousands of years ago to protect humanity from a race of alien predators called Deviants. The Eternals were alerted to the Deviant threat by the Celestials, a race of cosmic builders whose fingerprints are on the very building blocks of life itself. Ages 4 and up.
Disney held a conference call today with investors and during a discussion about what to expect next year confirmed that the Marvel Studios streaming series, Ms. Marvel, will not debut until at least July of 2022.
Rumors of the move began when Ms.Marvel star Mohan Kaour indicated the show wouldn’t stream until June or July of 2022.
More information on when to expect Ms. Marvel and the rest of next year’s Disney Plus schedule should be forthcoming at this Friday’s Disney Plus Day. In the meantime, check out our hypothetical 2022 release calendar right here.
The Mandalorian has given new life to the Star Wars franchise with 2 great seasons and at least 2 spinoff series (The Book of Boba Fett and Ahsoka) on the way. Season 3 of The Mandalorian is in pre-production now and, given the way Season 2 wrapped up, seems as if it will take fans in a new direction now that Grogu has gone his own way under the care of Luke Skywalker. With Grogu seemingly out of the picture, fans have wondered what will become of the series’ main antagonist, Moff Gideon, whose pursuit of the Child set him on a collision course with Din Djarin that did not end favorably for the Imperial remnant. In an interview with Variety, Giancarlo Esposito painted a pretty clear picture of Gideon’s future in the series.
I have to imagine you would. I can’t speak for them, but I know I have desire. I think we need to see Moff to continue the story and to continue the pressure that – and the edge – that someone with the big brain that Moff has thinks about. So, I could almost guarantee it, but you know, there’s never a guarantee, but you know… you’ll see me, baby. Come on! I mean, the fact that I’m here tonight and in the position I am to be nominated for Moff Gideon. I just, I thank Jon Favreau and I thank Dave Filoni and thank Disney and Kathleen Kennedy for producing. This show, though, its’ taken people by storm, because there’s so much to love.
Gideon provided a formidable threat to the Mando throughout the first 2 seasons…right up until he did not. Gideon fancied himself a guy who was playing chess while everyone else was playing checkers, but when he found himself up against a pissed of Mando and crew, he was, predictably and understandably, unable to put up much of a fight. However, knowledge is power and it’s clear that Gideon is a man who makes it his business to know as much as possible and while the ending of season 2 left him in a less than favorable position, it’s not too hard to imagine him finding a way to get himself back on his feet and becoming a thorn in the side of Djarin, Bo Katan and company as they move on to a new chapter.
As mutants have thrived and expanded into the cosmos during the Krakoan Age, Victor Creed has sat in a deep, dark pit at the heart of the island as punishment for killing some humans WAAAAAY back in House of X #1. Next January, we’ll catch up with Creed’s time the hole and, presumably, his revenge on those that put him there in Sabretooth #1 by Victor LaValle.
After the issue was teased for January in yesterday’s December 2021 solicitations, LaValle took to Twitter to reveal that he was behind the book.
Announcement is made: I’m telling the story of Sabretooth’s time in the Pit &…more.
I love writing the villain. Whatever you think a Sabretooth story will be, this’ll be that plus *extra*
LaValle is best known for his short stories and has dabbled in comics before but Sabretooth represents his first work for Marvel. Back in March, LaValle announced that he had come to an agreement to work with Marvel on a book for the X-line, but until yesterday’s Twitter announcement, there had only been rumors about what he’d be writing.
It’s worth speculating that Victor Creed’s return to action will coincide with the events of Jonathan Hickman’sInferno, which promises to bring the Age of Krakoa crumbling down, presumably at the hands of Mystique who was with Creed on his last mission and who has a promise to keep. We’ll likely see Mystique turn Creed loose on Krakoa and that sounds like something worth reading.
In all our excitement for the upcoming animated series, What If, we’ve been wondering about the noticeable absence of specific actors. We know that a handful of actors, which includes Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Chris Evans, and Tom Holland aren’t returning for the series. Yet, there was also the surprising absence of Dave Bautista in the list even though we got a brief glimpse of his Drax interacting with T’Challa’s version of Star-Lord. Well, the actor took to Twitter and unveiled he never got asked in the first place.
This reveal is rather surprising, as the actor has been outspoken on his love for the character. We also know he’ll return in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. So, why wouldn’t they want him to reprise the role? Either they already reached their limit on the budget with the massive voice cast, or Drax might not even have a line in the series. Yet, as the image above proves, he’ll interact with T’Challa at some point in the series.
So, it’s a bit baffling how they determine who joined the cast and who doesn’t. It would be great to get an official statement on how this got determined throughout production. Animation takes quite a bit of time, and they confirmed they’ve been working on it long before either Lokior the Doctor Strange sequel entered production. Even James Gunn was surprised by this statement in a reaction to his tweet. He’s openly stated that the upcoming Guardiansfilm is likely the last time he’ll portray the character. We’ll see what the future holds for the iconic team member.
