  • ‘Marvel’s Avengers: ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’ Black Widow Skin Leaked Early

‘Marvel’s Avengers: ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’ Black Widow Skin Leaked Early

It looks like a new skin for an upcoming shipment may have accidentally leaked early, as a recent update of Marvel’s Avengers has led to the reveal that the next shipment will include Avengers: Age of Ultron-inspired design for Black Widow. Currently, Iron Man 3‘s iconic golden armor was made available as part of the next shipments but it seems the update added the next unlockable design for when the next iteration of shipments kicks off, which is the game’s offering to earn cosmetics through grinding various missions.

User @LewisXI19 shared a good look at the costume that seems mostly true to the films with a very bright red hair. This isn’t the first time that skin like this managed to leak online, as there was a similar case with Hawkeye’s Captain America: Civil War skin, as pointed out by the user this isn’t the first time. The design looks great and the Age of Ultron costume added a lot of neon elements to her costume, which still stands out to this day as she usually focused on primary black, undercover designs.

We’re still anxiously awaiting any news on what the future has in store for the game. They’ve confirmed they are working on new updates, but it’s uncertain just what we can expect not only from the roadmap but from the year overall. They have mostly focused on teasing content for half a year rather than the full one. So, we shouldn’t expect to know what’ll release by December once the roadmap drops. Still, it’s fun to speculate and we’ll see what the future has in store.

  • New Art Book May Hint at ‘Hogwarts Legacy’ Release Date

New Art Book May Hint at ‘Hogwarts Legacy’ Release Date

There’s been a lot of debate if Warner Bros.’s open-world game, Hogwarts Legacy, would even manage its 2022 release window as news died down quickly on the project. Then, industry insider Tom Henderson hinted that the State of Play may arrive to confirm a summer release date for the game. While we’re still waiting for that rumored event – especially with the recent State of Play only focused on the next Gran Turismo release – there’s a chance that a book release offered some more hints at the game’s release.

As first noticed by The Rowling Library, Jody Revenson, who worked on other Wizarding World tie-in books, has tackled the art book for the upcoming Warner Bros. game titled The Art and Making of Hogwarts Legacy. What stands out is that the publication under the ISBN 9781647226190 was already given a release date. The book includes the release date of September 6th, which would potentially hint at the game also finding its way into stores around the same time. So, there’s a chance that it adds some validity to a potential summer release date.

Of course, nothing is final until we get an official statement but it’s a positive sign that we’ll get to see the release this year. The idea of being able to explore Hogwarts at your own leisure as a student sounds like a great time. We still know very little about the project, but it makes you wonder if we might see something similar to Rockstar’s Bully game. You have to explore the campus in-between lessons as you develop your abilities as a wizard. The potential is exciting and hopefully, it can deliver.

  • Rockstar Games Confirms Active Development on ‘Grand Theft Auto 6’

Rockstar Games Confirms Active Development on ‘Grand Theft Auto 6’

It’s weird to think that it took an announcement, to begin with, but Rockstar Games took to Twitter to confirm that they are already working on the next official entry in their popular Grand Theft Auto franchise. Their current version has been available since the Playstation 3 and has gone on to become a mainstay for many players, especially through the offering of Grand Theft Auto Online, which continued to add more content for players.

Rockstar Games took to Twitter to announce that the project is definitely underway and they aim to offer even more from what their latest release offered. So, it’ll be interesting to see how they want to make this new version stand out after we had three protagonists, especially as we had the ability to switch between them at any time.

The first real hint we got at production came back in October when Snoop Dogg revealed that Dr. Dre was involved with the project. With the controversy surrounding the Grand Theft Auto Trilogy: Definite Edition, there might be some hesitancy on Rockstar potentially overpromising. Yet, their mainline entries have been in development for quite some time and the first trailer might offer a better look at what their vision of “better” truly entails.

  • Rocksteady’s ‘Suicide Squad’ Game Won’t Release Until 2023

Rocksteady’s ‘Suicide Squad’ Game Won’t Release Until 2023

The wait for Rocksteady’s next game will take a bit longer, as Bloomberg has revealed that Suicide Squad Kills the Justice League has been pushed back until 2023. There is still no set release date, as it was initially announced to release in 2022 alongside the other DC-based game, Gotham Knights. It’s unsure if they decided to push it back due to both games having close ties to Batman, or if it’s a production decision.

The game was originally announced back in 2020 during their DC FanDome event. It’ll focus on a smaller team that comprises the titular Suicide Squad, as you can play either Captain Boomerang, King Shark, Deadshot, or the ever-present Harley Quinn. Unlike Gotham Knights, this game seemingly focuses more on gunplay and mechanics similar to Insomniac’s Sunset Overdrive.

It’s a shame the wait is going to be longer once again, as we still know very little about the game. 2021’s DC FanDome offered our first real look at gameplay, but it was only in short snippets. Rocksteady continues to focus primarily on the story, but it supposedly will act as a Games-as-a-Service model once it releases. Here’s hoping we still get some updates throughout the year as we continue to wait for its release.

  • Sony Purchased ‘Destiny’ Developer Bungie in $3.6B Deal

Sony Purchased ‘Destiny’ Developer Bungie in $3.6B Deal

Sony, the company behind the gaming console PlayStation, is set to acquire Bungie in a landmark $3.6 billion deal. The story was first broke by Bloomberg’s Jason Schrier, it appears the gaming giant is looking to expand PlayStation studios by adding the original Halo devs to their portfolio. With this deal, PlayStation is also set to acquire the rights to Destiny as well as any other original projects Bungie is working on, including the rumored PVP game that was hinted at in the past.

    https://twitter.com/jasonschreier/status/1488211489672605697

It has officially been shared by the Head of PlayStation Studios, Hermen Hulst, shortly after:

An Official blog post from Sony and Bungie has been released, including details about Bungie staying multi-platform and an independent publisher. Also included are reactions from the heads of both companies. Bungie and PlayStation have promised that Bungie will remain an independent developer and publisher, likely in a move to keep Destiny as a multi-platform game akin to Sony Online Entertainment’s status back when they were still owned by Sony.

However, there is no word if this is only for Destiny, or if Bungie’s other in-development IP will be included in this approach. I’d be surprised to see all Bungie games across all platforms, especially with Microsoft only promising Call of Duty on PlayStation for the next three years. With both FireSprite Games and Bungie working on competitive PVP first-person shooters, it certainly seems like PlayStation is gearing up to compete with Microsoft’s Call of Duty and Halo franchises.

  • David Hayter to Adapt American McGee’s ‘Alice’ as a TV Series, No Network Currently Attached

David Hayter to Adapt American McGee’s ‘Alice’ as a TV Series, No Network Currently Attached

It looks like the twisted take on a childhood classic is getting another revival, as American McGee’s Alice is heading to TV. David Hayter, who is well-known as the voice of Solid Snake in Metal Gear Solider and for writing the X-Men film, will tackle a live-action adaptation of the cult classic gaming franchise. Ted Field‘s Radar Pictures is working on the project alongside the writer with Abandon Entertainment also involved. The rights are owned by Electronic Arts, which has been actively looking into ways to expand its intellectual properties through adaptation. Hayter had the following to say on the project:

American McGee’s Alice and Alice: Madness Returns game series is a groundbreaking reimagining of the classic tale. It takes you into the heart of a corrupted Wonderland and throws light into shadowy corners the world has never seen. I am beyond excited to bring this world of madness and wonder to a global audience

    David Hayter

The story will follow Alice’s descent into madness after her home is burnt down and she loses her family in the process. In the original game, we follow her time in a mental asylum after she tried to commit suicide before she ventures back into Wonderland to save her psyche. The original franchise was created by American McGee – yes, his real name – who was well-known for his work on projects like DOOM and Quake. He had the following to say on the adaptation:

David Hayter brings imagination, experience, and stealth sneaking skills gained through successful missions in film, TV, and video games – a unique combination sure to make this adventure into Wonderland a successful one for the franchise and the fans. I am excited to be working with him and know the Alice fans will welcome him with mad affection.

    American McGee

He is currently working on a third entry of the franchise known as Alice: Asylum, which takes place after Madness Returns. The game currently has no release date, but the timing does seem perfect to start building some momentum for the new release. It currently has no broadcaster or streamer involved, but the dark story might find a suitable home soon.

  • ‘Final Fantasy VII Remake’ Sequel Announcement to Follow Later This Year

‘Final Fantasy VII Remake’ Sequel Announcement to Follow Later This Year

Final Fantasy VII Remake redefined our understanding of the original franchise and left us wanting more. As the next release was uncertain, we got the Intergrade DLC that offered a smaller piece of content as we waited for the full release of its second part. Plus, we know very little about how much the sequel would cover from the original game, as the first entry only covered the Midgar storyline from the original. Sadly, it seemed like today’s 25th anniversary live stream won’t give us an update, but luckily it seems we won’t have to wait that much longer.

Producer and director of the original Final Fantasy VII, Yoshinori Kitase, revealed that the first details of the sequel will be revealed throughout the year. The quote, whose translation is provided by Twitter user PushDustIn via VGC, does hint at some uncertainties if the 2022 reveal is definite.

We are hard at work on Final Fantasy VII: Ever Crisis, so please look forward to that. In addition, with regards to the long awaited Final Fantasy VII Remake [Part 2]… there will be more information… this year if we can.

    Yoshinori Kitase

Still, this does mean that the reveal won’t take too much longer potentially. It’s going to be two years since the first part was released, and if we get our first details this year, we could hope for a potential 2023 release. There probably won’t be another piece of DLC, but it’ll be interesting to see how our work in the first part may potentially lead into the sequel, such as Materia, gear, or skills. Here’s hoping that the wait isn’t too much longer, as we head into a massive 2022 year filled with anniversaries.

  • ‘Final Fantasy VII’ Celebrates Its 25th Anniversary With a New Logo

‘Final Fantasy VII’ Celebrates Its 25th Anniversary With a New Logo

There are quite a few celebrations this year, such as Kingdom Heart‘s 20th anniversary, Persona is celebrating its 25th anniversary and so much more. Among them is also the 25th anniversary of Final Fantasy VII, which many deem as the turning point for the entire franchise into what it is today. Of course, there’s always a lot of excitement around these celebrations, as there are high hopes for reveals and confirmations that fans are clamoring for.

In addition to the recent release of Final Fantasy VII Remake, there was a new wave of entries in the numbered part of the franchise, such as the recently released The First Soldier mobile game with Ever Crisis on the horizon. We’re still anxiously awaiting any news on the second entry in the Remake franchise, but to hold us over we got a brand new logo celebrating the 25th anniversary of the franchise, which you can check out here:

Even the Kingdom Hearts franchise continued its tradition of paying homage to the series with a visual that recreates an iconic cover from the game but uses assets from its own franchise instead. They did something similar during its 20th anniversary

There’s a stream planned for today, but there was a confirmation that we shouldn’t expect any news regarding the Remake sequel, as only The First Soldier content has been hinted at so far. Of course, there’s always a chance they might surprise fans, but it seems a bit unlikely as of now. We also haven’t heard anything on Ever Crisis since its announcement last year. Yet, there have been hints that the franchise has started an interest in other spinoffs after Remake’s success. For now, the celebration seems to be mainly for the past rather than the future.

  • REVIEW: ‘Heaven Dust 2’ is the ‘Resident Evil’ Throwback Gamers Need To Try

REVIEW: ‘Heaven Dust 2’ is the ‘Resident Evil’ Throwback Gamers Need To Try

As janky as the original Resident Evil games are, there’s an undeniable charm to them. Part of the essential old-school experience is the terror brought by the controls, the rigidness of the fixed camera angle, and the nightmarish door-opening loading screens. Within modern gaming standards, these are elements that players would crucify a game on, but back in the day, they served as key tenets of the genre. So when a new indie survival game commits to the DNA of the original Resident Evil games, you can’t help but applaud the homage.

    https://gfycat.com/leftwhoppinggrebe

Heaven Dust 2 is a Resident Evil love letter from Chinese developers One Gruel Studio and publisher Indie Nova. It unabashedly wears its influence on its sleeve, in particular the first Resident Evil game, from the premise, which takes place in a mansion replete with secret passageways and laboratories, to the aforementioned mechanics that made those games so enduring.

As expected, its story echoes many tropes from any imaginable zombie story. It has the quintessential virus outbreak, the mad scientist responsible, the mysterious patient zero, and the adversarial military group trying to keep the whole thing a secret. The storytelling isn’t particularly good and at times feels like the campaign of a mobile game.

    https://gfycat.com/accuratedimfiddlercrab

The way Heaven Dust 2 is indebted to its forebears may make or break the game depending on your mileage. Some of its attempts to replicate the DNA may be for the worse. The recovery frames in this game are unrefined to the point where getting stun-locked is a possibility. Not only that, the puzzle designs can oftentimes be frustrating to figure out while the bosses are mostly just bullet sponges. To top it all off, the gunplay lacks serious finesse.

The game’s puzzles are constantly at odds with its poor localization. Puzzle solutions are commonly found in in-game documents chronicling the events of the story. Unfortunately, a lot of the documents aren’t translated well into English, making certain puzzles tougher to figure out if you don’t read hard enough. The localization isn’t entirely incomprehensible but the solutions tend to get lost in translation.

By design, there are also some gaps with the mechanics. The game isn’t exactly forgiving when it comes to inventory management and the lack of required items may hardlock players from progressing. It isn’t clear if there’s a built-in fix for potential hardlock issues so it’s important to be very careful while progressing through the game.

The old curse of badly designed UI plagues Heaven Dust 2‘s menu system. It’s painful to look at and fails at distinguishing the many elements it throws on screen. The map is so shoddily made as well as the game’s gun modification menu.

    https://gfycat.com/disloyalwhoppingaddax

One improvement Heaven Dust has over the old Resident Evil games is its isometric view, which gives players a more precise sense of space that in turn makes exploration more engaging. The game loses a bit of its atmosphere with the isometric view and kiddie chibi art style but it’s a game that’s easy on the eyes. You won’t play this game for the scares but for the familiarity it evokes.

Heaven Dust 2 is a great reminder of how effective the original Resident Evil games were at using Metroidvania-style exploration. In spite of all its flaws, the game’s gated progression, rewards system, and cohesive level design convene in a very satisfying manner. A big plus is that backtracking never feels as tedious as it should be; it’ll take less than 10 minutes to cover the entire map of the game and there are zero loading screens to worry about.

    https://gfycat.com/generouszealouskillifish

All in all, Heaven Dust 2 is a wildly flawed game that manages to stay true to its goal of delivering an experience that brings players back to the early days of the survival-horror genre. It’s a charming game that doesn’t overstay its welcome yet will playfully keep players feeling nostalgic. Enthusiasts of the genre need to put this on their list.

  • ‘Fortnite’: Leak Offers First Look at ‘Hawkeye’-Inspired Skins

‘Fortnite’: Leak Offers First Look at ‘Hawkeye’-Inspired Skins

It’s already been a few weeks since Marvel Studios’ last Diseny+ series, Hawkeye, ended its run. We explored the story of Clint Barton and Kate Bishop, as they faced an unlikely challenge in the return of Vincent D’Onofrio‘s Kingpin. It was only a question of time until the new designs of these iconic characters make their way to other media, and it looks like Fortnite had some big plans for the characters that ended up leaking earlier.

@ralisdumb has shared the loading screen for the two new skins, which continues to prove that Epic Games found the perfect animation style for its skins in Fortnite. It seems like they can perfectly adapt any type of medium into the game, as it now includes live-action characters, animation, and who knows what else might get added in the future.

I do love the aesthetic they took to highlight the skins, as it has this neon noir take on the rings. The Disney+ series mostly has a Christmas aesthetic and takes a lot of inspiration from the My Life as a Weapon storyline, which had a flat design. So, the Fortnite take on the design is a great way to not only make the new skins stand out but also give it a unique spin.
