There have been many rumors surrounding the grand return of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. Today’s PlayStation Showcase finally gave us a tease of the infamous sith from the game alongside the confirmation it is heading to PlayStation 5. Developer Aspyr is working on the project and there’s no current release date set.
It’ll explore the original story set 4,000 years before the original trilogy. The original reinvented the way we looked at the iconic franchise as we saw the time when the Jedi and Sitz were at their pinnacle. The PlayStation blog entry on the release confirmed that they will rebuild modern tech, features, and visuals to bring the iconic franchise back to life.
They will maintain the story and characters that many came to love. As they didn’t showcase any gameplay, it’ll be interesting to see if any corners are cut to make the original RPG more cinematic. It’s not going to be an easy feat and the lack of release date might mean we’ll still have to wait sometime until it finds its way unto the PlayStation 5.
PlayStation’s latest showcase finally unveiled Insomniac’s sequel to 2018’s Spider-Man. It gave us our first look at Venom and even teased the appearance of another villain, whose monologue could hint at Kraven the Hunter’s inclusion. In an official PlayStation blog, the developers also revealed that the voice we heard in the trailer was the original Candyman, Tony Todd voicing the symbiote.
It’s the first official casting we have for the game, but there was no word on who was the second voice before we get our glimpse at Venom. Still, Todd is an incredible choice who is famous for lending his unique vocal performance to a variety of evil characters. He famously played the evil version of The Flash in the CW’s second season, which was one of the few highlights.
As the game won’t release until 2023, we might not get any more updates on it until the next year, but it’s promising to know more is heading our way. The game will act as a sequel to both the 2018 original and its spin-off, or rather midquel, Spider-Man: Miles Morales. There’s no word what other villains will join, but the first gave us the Sinister Six and they might try to top it with the next entry.
It’s been a long wait but we finally got our first look at the Spider-Man sequel. Right after they revealed our first look at a new Wolverine game, they dropped a teaser trailer for Spider-Man 2. It’ll release 2023 and it also includes our first look at Venom in the trailer.
The trailer starts off quite simple with both Spider-Men taking on some goons. Yet, the curious voice-over hints at someone finally finding a foe they’ve always wanted to face. It seems very likely this is Kraven the Hunter. It fits his usual story of seeking the ultimate hunt and he also seems to have an accent, which might mean they’ll stick to his Russian origin.
Overall, the Venom reveal is great. They’ve teased his future in the franchise in both the 2018 Spider-Man game and Miles Morales. It’s quite surprising to get a full face reveal for the character rather than teasing it purely through the voice. Still, it’s a great surprise, and the 2023 release date was one of the few in the entire showcase. So, the wait won’t be too long luckily unlike other projects.
During the PlayStation Showcase, we got the reveal that Insomniac, famous for their work on Spider-Man and Ratchet and Clank, is working on a new Marvel game. No, it’s not the long-awaited sequel to Spider-Man: Miles Morales, but a new game focused on the popular X-Men character, Wolverine.

It’s a huge surprise, as it may also be the beginning of Insomniac expanding into new territory. The trailer doesn’t give us much insight into gameplay, but they might take some inspiration from X-Men Origins: Wolverine, which took a very unique hack-and-slash approach. His healing factor might also add a curious gameplay mechanic that’ll make some encounters quite challenging.
Insomniac expanding their Marvel repertoire shows the trust in the developer by both Sony and Marvel. Who knows if they might also try to venture out with other iconic characters. They’ll still venture out with other entries, such as Marvel’s Avengers, the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy game, and many more. Still, Sony went out of its way to make an exclusive deal for Spider-Man to only be playable on that console. Who knows what else they might be working on moving forward.
It’s been a long wait but Crystal Dynamics finally dropped the updated roadmap that teases what is heading our way in the coming months. Not just that, we even got a full State of the Game blog that updates us on where exactly the game is. In the roadmap, we got the tease that the Spider-Man update will release alongside the game’s first Raid which will see your team of Avengers face off against Klaw one more time. It’ll include a new enemy type called Echoes and a Power Level increase. Now, the big takeaway here is that this will come alongside the long-awaited release of Spider-Man, who even has a brief tease in the roadmap.
@PlayAvenger was able to get a high-res version of the brief tease he has in the image facing off against Klaw. It’s curious that the character is titled as a “New Hero Event” and is not getting his own focus like in the past.
The first thing that catches our eye is that Spidey has his classic suit. So, that’s likely his base design staying true to what made the character iconic. Of course, he’ll likely release with some minor story elements, but the naming does highlight that this is only on PlayStation and probably gets a special focus as a result of it.
Now, let’s get to the rest of the roadmap. It’s a bit slim overall, as we have no mention of Patrol Mode or even the mysterious Cloning Labs. The only mention is that news will follow once they have something concrete. Still, it seems they finally will give us our first Raid in the form of a mission titled “Discordant Sound.” It’ll also act as a final arc in his story from War for Wakanda expansion. New enemy types known as Echoes will spawn from the big bad. The blog highlights that this will also give us our first real glimpse at what the future of the game has in store for us.
2022 will have a stronger focus on cinematic content, but they remain vague on what they have in store. The big focus is the rework of their base structures that includes gear, resources, and earnable comestics. It’s great they are setting a clearer focus, but it does feel a bit empty in comparison to the last roadmap without any actual months. Still, the Disney+ Nameplate challenge for Hawkeye would hint that these elements are eyeing a November release alongside the show’s premiere.
Fortnite has become the world for any kind of property you can think of. They’ve collected a variety of iconic franchises through their skin offerings. Over the past year, players were able to get their hands on Marvel and DC skins of all kind. Recently, a rumor seems to hint at Shang-Chi joining the game alongside the film’s premiere. Well, it looks like The Suicide Squad might get more rep soon.
Earlier in the month, we got the release of a Bloodsport skin in the game. It added many theories that we might see more represented, as the game included marks for Peacemaker, Rebirth Harley Quinn, King shark, and Polka-Dot Man, which released alongside the character and his Starro backpack. Harely Quinn, who was already in the game, did get the new outfit, but there was no sign of the rest. Well, Fortnite leaker @HYPEX may have revealed that a King Shark and Weasel skin might release in the future. He does also point out they may have gotten scrapped as well.
MORE UPCOMING/SCRAPPED SKINS!
– Weasel (Suicide Squad) – King Shark (Suicide Squad) – Jester (Male, Female & King?) – Jurassic Archaeology (Male) – Male counterpart of Komplex – A male Halloween skin from Save The World
King Shark seemed like a popular choice to join the game, but Weasel is a curious surprise. As stated above, HYPEX doesn’t clarify which of these skins got scrapped. There’s a chance that it only refers to the unspecified ones, but as the film has released some time ago, it’s odd they wouldn’t try to time the release accordingly. King Shark might also be a difficult one to adapt as he requires a completely new body type unlike the more humanoid characters. Here’s hoping we get some more information in the near future.
Here’s an interesting surprise. Around April, there was a rumor going around that a video game adaptation of The Mandalorian was in development. There never was an official word on the game, but it looks like we may have gotten some potential leaked footage of what may be that rumored game. Either that, or an incredibly made leak showcasing the potential of a game based on the popular Disney+ series.
There are quite a few rough parts to what is being shown. The chapter select and audio stand out for being very unfinished. It also seems to follow the chapter structure from the series, which seems like an odd choice for a game adaptation. Yet, the approach of a third-person game as Mando fighting your way through hordes of Stormtroopers is an enticing offer if it turns out to be real.
There are some elements that speak against it. You can find a popular mod of Din Djarin that was used in Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order some time ago. Plus, it may also turn out to be a mod for Star Wars: Battlefront II that got quite a few gameplay upgrades. If it does turn out fake, respect to the modder who put the work in. The prospect of a game version of The Mandalorian is an exciting one, and with rumors of an open-world game eyeing a 2023 release, it would be the perfect concept as you hunt down various bounties while doing missions
Fortnite has become the center of pop culture, as it includes a wide variety of DC, Marvel, Star Wars, and many more inspired skins. It looks like Marvel Studios is using the chance to promote their latest film Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, as the titular hero will get skin in the game according to well-known Reddit leaker u/SmugMrMime. He also highlights it’ll release on September 2nd alongside the film’s premiere.
This news was also highlighted by @HYPEX who has an extensive history of sharing Fortnite-related leaks. There is no visual confirmation of his inclusion, but he does note that the Bad Boys skin of Will Smith‘s Mike Lowrey will release on August 28th. So, his timely release would be an indicator of Shang-Chi’s validity. As the Will Smith-inspired skin found its way online around a week ago, we’ll see if the same will happen with Shang-Chi.
It’s not uncommon for films to utilize other media to promote their projects. If there is any place to get a wide audience, it’s one of the most popular games currently available. It also has a wide range of players actively sharing their experiences online, which garners more attention. Plus, including Marvel Studios’ first Asian-American superhero and giving him more attention outside of the film is a great move.
It hasn’t been an easy road to this point. Marvel’s Avengers had quite a questionable start for many. The game faced many challenges with various bugs and a pandemic pushing content back. Yet, it continued to persevere with monthly events starting in April and the release of three new playable characters. The latest expansion, War for Wakanda, finally introduced the game’s version toofBlack Panther and continued to build upon the war against AIM. We’re also only a week or two away from the game’s first year coming to an end. So, what better time to explore how far the game has come and what the latest addition has to offer.
The game’s biggest strength has been gameplay and the story. While mission variety has been a bit stale early on, each of the game’s characters feels like their own character. Even with a base combat style, the newly introduced Black Panther has quite a few tricks up his sleeve. He comes with a new mechanic that lets him lunge at enemies. You can even jump on giant machines to do damage. His heroics also add some fun elements, as you can summon the Panther God Bast alongside Dora Milaje to help you in combat. His addition continues the tradition of complex kits to test out.
He’s also a great contrast to the last two characters, who were a bit too similar. It made sense, as it was Hawkeye and his protégé, Kate Bishop. They both rely on their arrows and swords to take on enemies, and they pretty much share the same base ability. Clint Barton is more bow-focused, but they are just a tad too similar. In a way, I think him only relying on keeping enemies at a distance with his bow and shurikens from his time as Ronin could’ve made him stand out just a bit more. Perhaps something they could add in future updates.
Still, all three stories continue to expand the overarching narrative in unique ways. The first campaign was an introduction to this world’s Avengers and the threat that AIM poses. Kate built up the mystery of the strange Tachyon storms that led us into the future with Hawkeye. The tease after the Cosmic Cube event was a personal highlight as it answered theories and offered a glimpse into the future. War for Wakanda takes a different turn as it’s not only longer than previous entries but also feels a lot more personal.
The Avengers take a backseat this time around, which fits the story from T’Challa’s perspective. I do wish the opening was from the Avenger’s perspective as we fight our way through the jungle to end up in this new location, but it’s Wakanda’s story and better left as such. It just lacks cohesion on how they ended up deciding to fight there now and not earlier. Personally, the ending is the weakest point in the story, as it does what it needs to do so Black Panther can join the Avengers for future adventures, but it doesn’t give us any hints at what’s ahead.
Of course, the new story also adds some new elements to the endgame. We get quite a few new mission types this time around. I noticed that the challenge spiked in this expansion, which is a good thing. Some of the earlier parts of the game weren’t too difficult to play through, but since the Cosmic Cube event, it seems they’ve been upping the overall challenge. There are also new puzzle types, like a miniature Horde mode, that push the players to communicate. I hope we get more of them in other biomes. The Wasteland is still very barebones, which could benefit from this type of content.
In a way, while the story does introduce new mission types, the endgame still feels like an afterthought. We didn’t get an Omega-Level Threat included in this release. While it does add some new mission types to test out after finishing the story, there’s nothing endgame-specific to catch your attention as a player. Why not include a special mission to tease the next story arc, like Cosmic Cube was just without the month-long wait. The ending leaves a specific villain’s story open, which would be great to expand in an epilogue fashion teasing the next arc. How about a new mission type that feels like a reward for finishing the story.
Gear is still getting overhauled, but there are some fantastic exotic pieces with Black Panther. So, there’s a reason to grind, but the lack of something new is a bit of a bummer for more casual players. Luckily, the new Corrupted Vibranium event adds new elements to existing missions and is a pleasant addition to the content drop. Plus, Vibranium and Sonic gear adds something new to play around with and motivates one to grind a bit more. My only real complaint is that Sonic’s blurring effect is annoying and needs an overhaul as soon as possible. Still, the addition to existing missions might also be our first step towards randomization that, hopefully, is an element we see in the upcoming Patrol mode.
War for Wakanda also came with a complete overhaul of their user interface, which they teased as the foundation for the game’s latest developments. While needing to adjust to it, it took away the clutter of each menu consisting of various submenus, but there are some parts where it overcorrected. Gear management requires more clicks than previously but could get rectified with future updates as we’re only getting a glimpse of where it’s heading. Still, the option to have gear loadouts in the future is an exciting prospect and entices keeping more gear pieces to play around with.
Marvel’s Avengers has changed quite a bit since its launch. I’ve noticed that I am playing it more frequently than I did months prior. The events add quite a bit of replay value and temporary challenge. War for Wakanda is a great addition. T’Challa’s performance by Christopher Judge being a highlight. In general, the voice work here is fantastic and elevated the story in comparison to other updates. We had more characters to interact with, a new hub world where you can find Easter Eggs and other things.
Though the new Outpost is beautiful, it still lacks functionality outside of mission selection and getting dailies. I hope we get something to do at these places in the future. We’re still anxiously awaiting the updated roadmap for the coming months, and there’s a lot more content heading our way. My biggest complaint is that the endgame still needs a bit more attention. Still, we have additional OLTs, Patrol mode, and potentially a lot more heading our way. So, I think Year 2 has the potential to remedy those complaints. The game is a fun experience, and being a part of its evolution and community adds that little extra.
UPDATE: So, it turns out that bug wasn’t actually a bug. Zawavari has various voice lines where he communicates with magic users. In one instance, he is talking to Wanda but the player below entered the circle at a time that made it seem like he mistook Thor for Wanda. In reality, he’s actually talking to her through telepathy. It has been confirmed by a CD developer on Reddit:
There are other lines where it is implied he is talking to Doctor Strange, Wong (even mentions the Ancient One), Loki, and Doctor Voodoo. Loki is also confirmed in a specific voice line when talking to Thor. Content creator @BobDuckNWeave prepared a compilation of these various voice lines, which you can check out here:
It looks like a tiny Marvel’s Avengers bug has found its way into the latest Black Panther expansion that may have accidentally confirmed a new playable character. When you enter Zawavari’s cave, he will greet the Avenger you are playing. It seems that someone may have managed to activate the wrong audio file, as he welcomes “Wanda.” The name is, of course, a dead giveaway that Wanda Maximoff a.k.a. the Scarlet Witch will become a playable character in a future update of the game.
Black Panther is our third addition since the initial launch of the game and is the biggest addition since. We get a free story mode and Wakanda is a brand new biome that offers quite a beautiful vista to explore. The game has come quite far and we’ve been promised an update to the roadmap in the coming weeks. So, we’ll see who the next playable character will be with Spider-Man the most likely due to his confirmed 2021 release.
