REVIEW: ‘Titans’ Episode 10 – Troubled Water

It’s hard to know where to start with episode 10. At the end of the day, the episode is as chaotic as Gotham after the water contamination from the end of episode 8. The show not only flubs the villain story but manages to implode the remaining slivers of an overarching, cohesive plot. In fact, the episode seems to decidedly prove that there is no genuine or comprehensible story. There’s certainly no storyline available with a meaningful, consistent, or valid goal or even journey throughout.

Titans Season 3 Episode 10 Spoilers Reveal Major Gotham Water Supply Bout - MediaScrolls

Even if Titans has some clue as to what that plot might be, the villains of the show absolutely do not. Apparently, dosing the entire city with the anti-fear (and now crazy zombie-esque?) drug was not really an end goal at all, but simply a throwaway to hype up Red Hood as Gotham’s true savior. All that to take down Nightwing and the other Titans. How this tracks with what the season has provided us thus far is mysterious, to say the least. After non-stop back-and-forth motivations and betrayals by Jason, he winds up at Crane’s side as if nothing ever happened. Crane is still just Crane, defined by mediocracy and unconvincing ever-moving plans and motivations to take over Gotham. At the very end of the episode, they make a toast to “bad seeds”, not knowing he was breaking the fourth wall in doing so.

The episode moves into emergency territory with much of Gotham affected by the drug, the city put in full lockdown and quarantine, and general crime is causing generic chaos throughout the city – it is reminiscent of the episode as a whole. However, the true sacrifices to this setup are unfortunately our Titans, whose grand plan first involved showing up in random spots in the city to fight drugged criminals rather unsuccessfully. With that failure in plain sight, they somehow concoct the brilliant plan to turn themselves in as a group “for show”, with the idea being that they would post bail and then disappear. As a quick aside, the notion that these people – accused and arrested for poisoning and attacking an entire whole city – would be granted bail is just absolutely ridiculous to the point it almost hurts.

Titans Season 3 Episode 10: Release Date, Recap & Spoilers - OtakuKart

Shocking, however, is that this plan did not work out. Not because they were not granted bail, but because some Gotham City police are in cahoots with Red Hood and the attack the Titans. Now they are simply in hiding—a large group of (depending on the day) highly superpowered individuals up against the occasional handgun did, in fact, run away from the situation. Again, how this squares with the first nine episodes that portrayed the group as a very confident, dedicated to Gotham unit is anyone’s guess. It’s probably safe to assume that separating the group in this sort of war zone atmosphere of Gotham would, in fact, give it more of a gritty war zone sensation. However, it’s not only completely arbitrary but flat-out disingenuous to any premise laid down thus far.

If the episode felt bold with its general Gotham story decisions, it undoubtedly felt more empowered to make some bold character-specific moves. It could be compared to the brief allusions to a chess match between the Titans and Red Hood early in the season, except the Titans – and Jason Todd honestly – are making completely random moves without any rhyme or reason. Hence, this episode.

Titans Season 3, Episode 10 recap: Anarchy in Gotham City

We can start with Dick, who is given the most attention as always. While he just suffered some head trauma and is having occasional visions of the bat symbol, he otherwise comes across as mentally competent. While sane as he might be, his character is not consistent in the slightest. If he’s seeing bats, that would suggest he’s probably leaning into the “bad Batman” route some more, and one would expect that it would lead him to be more dark and batty, quite frankly. Here, though, he’s just lukewarm at best and making terrible, selfish decisions without the added necessary mental components to make it believable or understandable. The hardest pill to swallow is his line, “Gotham is on its own.” I mean, come on. Even in a “baddest Batman” situation, Gotham is very much attended to.

Other characters can be looked at more briefly because the absurdity speaks entirely for itself. Blackfire somehow sustained a deadly gunshot wound through her Tamaranian armor. Starfire attempts to heal (really?) her with her fire, but her sister merely absorbed it and takes it from her. Moving past how all of that is bad, we are yet again at a space where Starfire’s character and powers are just wrecked. Shockingly, the admittedly evil and traitorous Blackfire appears to be following her passion. It might be worth harping on how this storyline has a negative amount of reasons to take place within the Gotham story. It’s hard to even care at times when it’s treated like it’s some mild sisterly squabble among the “real stuff”.

Titans Season 3 Episode 10 Recap "Troubled Water" – Alexus Renée Celebrity Myxer

Donna and Lydia’s interactions were so unnecessary. Of course, the show feels the need to tie Donna’s just-came-back-from-the-dead issue in a very shoddy knot. But Lydia sneaking around in a potato sack outfit acting a bit crazed, the two “fighting” for four seconds in mystical woods only for Donna to be told she is the greatest of everyone just didn’t need to happen. Her arc within episode 9 was plenty enough to redeem and re-hype her character, and this only brought it down.

To end on a high note, the random never-before-seen police station GCPD officers/workers that gave Commissioner Gordon the rundown on the situation and advised her what to do actually provided some solid acting. While the (what felt like) 23 seconds of that scene at the very beginning go the episode left more to be desired, it was solid.

  • Misha Green Offers Updates on ‘Black Canary’ and Teases Comic Accurate Costume

Misha Green Offers Updates on ‘Black Canary’ and Teases Comic Accurate Costume

Over a year ago, Birds of Prey and The Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn hit theaters worldwide. The film brought back Margot Robbie‘s Harley Quinn alongside some new additions to the DCEU. The most popular introduction was Jurnee Smollet as Black Canary, who fans immediately championed to get a spinoff. It took quite some time, but it finally got announced that she’ll reprise the role of Dinah Lance for a solo project. Lovecraft Country‘s Misha Green set to write the film as an HBO Max exclusive.

Writer Misha Green recently took to Twitter for an impromptu Q&A and fans immediately jumped at the chance to get a bit more details on the upcoming Black Canary film. She naturally doesn’t give away any details but did offer some small glimpses behind the scenes. What may have caught many fans’ eyes is her teasing the classic costume from the comics. So, it adds some hope that she’ll wear the iconic biker jacket and fishnets.

She is currently actively researching for the project but doesn’t give away what might become the series’ main influence, but there was a hint at Gail Simone‘s work. The writer remains tight-lipped on what the series might dive into, but she did confirm that she’s going solo on this project in one of her tweets.

We got a tease that Dinah’s mother had a similar ability in the 2020 film, which could become an important part of the upcoming HBO Max film. While it is still probably some time until it releases, it’s exciting to see such passion behind the project. Smollet has also been very vocal about her love for the character and project. So, here’s hoping we’ll get to see their creative vision soon.

  • HBO Max Developing a Three-Part Documentary on DC’s Legacy

HBO Max Developing a Three-Part Documentary on DC’s Legacy

It looks like HBO Max will be putting the spotlight on DC Comics’ rich history and influential legacy as part of a three-part documentary series. Oscar and Emmy-nominated director, and producer, Leslie Iwerks, will act as showrunner alongside Greg Berlanti. It’ll explore the early years of the company and how it evolved into the comic book giant we know today.

HBO Max is no stranger to DC, as the streaming service already features a number of titles including Doom Patrol, Titans, and the upcoming Peacemaker series. All that is in additional to working closely with Warner Bros. films. With comics assets as popular as they have become, it makes sense that DC would want to celebrate its successes and relive some of the world’s most beloved characters and stories. Jim Lee, Publisher and Chief Creative Officer at DC told Deadline:

DC has a rich legacy of over 80 years of iconic storytelling: from the introduction of the genre defining Super Hero Superman in 1938 to the amazing movies, TV shows, cartoons, games and comics which have been synonymous with superheroism for generations thereafter. We are so excited to dive into this history and bring fans along this amazing journey,

    Jim Lee

Iwerks previously received an Outstanding Nonfiction Special Emmy nomination for her work on The Pixar Story, a documentary that took audiences behind the scenes of the the animation legend. She will exeuctive produce with Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter and David Madden. Co-executive producers are Mark Catalena, Rachael Jerahian, and Jonathan Gabay. The series will be co-directed by Iwerks alongside Catalena.

  • ‘Loki’s Natalie Holt to Compose HBO Max’s ‘Batgirl’

‘Loki’s Natalie Holt to Compose HBO Max’s ‘Batgirl’

It looks like Loki‘s Natalie Holt has already found her next project. The composer took to Twitter to announce that she’ll be working on the upcoming HBO Max film Batgirl. Last we heard of the project, they were preparing to film in Glasgow and it seems that production is picking up the pace if they already added their composer. The unique soundtrack of the Disney+ series was a standout and makes her addition an exciting prospect on what direction they might take.

Details are still kept under wraps on the upcoming film. Directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah offered a brief update that Christina Hodson‘s script has been finished before they started scouting Glasgow. The only confirmed casting is Leslie Grace, who will take on the mantle of Batgirl and her alter-ego Barbara Gordon. It’s uncertain if they’ll stick to her origins as a fan of Batman who took on the mantle on her terms, or she might even be trained by whatever version of the Dark Knight they determine to include.

Holt has built up quite the reputation in the industry with her work on Paddington, Deadwater Fell, and BBC’s Wallander. She’s even played the closing ceremony of the Olympic games, as she’s an accomplished violinist. It’s exciting to see her join another comic book adaptation to lend her unique voice to the industry. We cannot wait to listen to what she has planned for her Batgirl soundtrack.

  • ‘Peacemaker’ Will Feature Dance Number Opening Credits

‘Peacemaker’ Will Feature Dance Number Opening Credits

The Suicide Squad was quite the hit with fans and critics alike, with many praising Gunns writing and character work. With so many memorable moments and characters, fans are eager to get more of the newest characters within the DCEU. Well, many fans will get their wish, just not as they expect. Peacemaker is the first spinoff series for the DCEU, centering around John Cenas Christopher Smith, a character whose quest for peace will continue on in an eight-episode-long first season.

Virtually nothing is known about the first season of Peacemaker, aside from that he’s gotta save the world, alongside John Economos and Emilia Harcourt. The cast and crew recently made an appearance at the Television Critics Association. The panel showcased some of the series first footage along with the opening credits, which definitely aren’t what many expected them to be. Each episode of Peacemaker will open with a Dance Number for the opening sequence, a sequence that act actor Robert Patrick reportedly had the most fun with.

    https://twitter.com/megsokay/status/1440747538781401095?s=20

While this seems a bit unorthodox for the genre, it’s certainly something out of the left field for Gunn to pull. This will definitely set the tone for what how you can expect the season to go, especially with such an eccentric patriot like Peacemaker, and let’s hope he works better with this team than the last one.

All eight episodes of Peacemaker were written by James Gunn, who directed five of the episodes. Gunn will serve as an executive producer on the series alongside both John Cena and Peter Safran.

Hit Monkey First Look, Release Date Revealed

    Fall TV Preview

Once upon a time, Marvel Entertainment gave the green light to a handful of animated series. Of those, only MODOK and Hit Monkey survived Kevin Feige’s ascendancy. While we’ll probably never see The Offenders event series, we can see Hit Monkey beginning on November 17th on Hulu. The show is rumored to be “hyper-violent”, so we might not see the Marvel Studios credits roll ahead of it, but it’s still looking like it’ll be a blast.

Serkis Says Spidey and Venom Meeting is “Gonna Happen”

Spider-Man Vs Venom: Who Would Win?

Sony’s Venom: Let There Be Carnage screened last week and all the buzz (including from the studio, bizarrely enough) was about the post-credit scene that is rumored to hint at something fans have long hoped for: Spidey and Venom being in the same place. According to the film’s director, Andy Serkis, fans are eventually going to get what they hope for, saying “of course it’s gonna happen.” When? How? Why? Which Spidey? We’ll all find out together.

Live-Action Marvel Zombies On the Way?

Zombie Captain America from What If...?

What If…? made zombies part of the Marvel Cinematic Multiverse and found some pretty great ways to kill them. According to Mark Millar, who was part of the creative team behind Marvel Zombies to the comics indicated that “his sources” have told him that Marvel Studios has plans to bring the undead back “further down the line” in a live-action project. Marvel has a lot of projects in the pipeline, which one do you think makes the most sense for the ghouls to pop into?

Warner Bros. Developing Multiple ‘MORTAL KOMBAT’ Sequels

Mortal Kombat: Sorgt in den USA für größtes Kinowochenende seit Beginn der Pandemie

WB’s Mortal Kombat was never going to win any awards and it wasn’t everyone’s favorite film but it was always going to get a follow up. According to Variety, it may well get several follow ups focusing on individual characters from the gaming franchise’s mythology. As long as I don’t have to sit through a Kano solo film, it’ll be ok.

Krysten Ritter Wants to Join Charlie Cox in the MCU

Netflix cancels 'The Punisher' and 'Jessica Jones' | Fangirlish

Actress Krysten Ritter, who brought Marvel’s Jessica Jones to life on Netflix back in 2015, has decided that she’d like to not be done playing the character. Ritter, who was last seen as Jones in 2019’s third season of Jessica Jones, says she’d “absolutely just die to play Jessica again.” Nobody wants Ritter to die, but it’s great to know she’s up for returning to the role and reimagining the character like her Defenders co-star Charlie Cox totally for sure isn’t doing in Spider-Man: No Way Home.

‘THE PENGUIN’ Series in Development at HBO Max

    the batman penguin spin off

Director Matt Reeves is definitely getting the chance to do some world building around his upcoming Batman film. The latest development, according to Deadline, is a streaming series focused on Colin Farrell’s Oswald Cobblepot. That makes at least 2 series spinning out of 2022’s The Batman.

  • REVIEW: ‘TITANS’ Season 3 Episode 8 – Home

REVIEW: ‘TITANS’ Season 3 Episode 8 – Home

The beginning of Season 3 Episode 8 of Titans might make you briefly reminisce about the first few minutes of Episode 1 of the season where the Titans were a successful team popular with the San Fransisco public. That was a decent concept at the time as they were finally an actual team. Now, though, they have a Titans Signal in Gotham after the fact that they just celebrated that they won the whole Gotham situation with one tiny fight, and any happy memory is pretty marred by the pretentiousness of it all now. The episode does deliver some likely unintentional irony by the end of the episode when it is the Titans who actually cause the ultimate problem the season has been leading up to.

I would love to skip over it, but the episode certainly did not and it’s a hard pass on the Conner-Komand’r romance arc. Superboy has the acknowledged essence of a very young and naive boy, while Blackfire is supposed to come across as a hardened, elitist, dominating badass. Neither really lands so it comes across as overly cringe and it’s not what Gotham deserves right now. Also on a Tamaranian note, Kory is once again back to having visions she can’t control and that whole deprivation chamber nonsense is coming to the rescue again. The show seems determined to never give the woman a fair shot at being much more than a confused person waking up in random places and sometimes shooting fire out of her hands.

The Red Hood plot has had yet another rapid-fire turnaround. Jason declares to Crane that he is done with him and is done being used. Did that not happen two episodes ago? Either way, the episode seemed to commit to making Scarecrow the true villain at this point. We get the scenes with his overly horrible mother, his increasingly angry rants, and his increasing violence (see: dead mother), which classically hint that the man is approaching his final evil form as this absolutely insane and puppet master mastermind. Crane definitely makes you uncomfortable, but the character is still portrayed as entirely too casual to be particularly threatening or even plausibly pulling such intricate strings.

Episode 8 does deliver some good news by making it clear Titans will continue throwing a growing number of Robins at every problem, causing intra- and inter-Robin problems, which makes the original problem much worse. Dick is very harsh at times with Jason, telling Barbara for example that he essentially plans to execute Jason when he gets the chance. Later, he offers Jason a chance to come home if he gives up Crane—I assumed he was bluffing, but he apparently means it and the real kicker is that many of the Titans now absolutely hate Jason and would, I guess, prefer Dick kill him.

Jason seems repentant once he is cut off from the anti-fear gas, which is emphasized by the creepy scene where he goes to role-play apologizing to Hank and Dawn to exhibitionist sex workers. So while Jason is struggling with his actions stemming from his downfall from Robin to Red Hood, Dick (after being hit by a car) is now having visions reflecting his struggles with his Robin to Nightwing journey.

Enter Tim Drake. Honestly, he’s sweet, he’s likable, and he just wants to help. Unfortunately, he also wants to be the next Robin and there is absolutely no indication that he will not get to be that in the near future considering Titans. While he will probably get to be the next sacrificial lamb for everyone to say, “Wow, the Robins really are problematic!”, at the moment he sparks a glimmer of joy. Does he get (presumably) fatally shot at the end of the episode? Sure. But there’s always Episode 9.

To be fair, Episode 8 ends with a major Scarecrow victory as all of Gotham City’s water supply is dosed with the chemical. While this plan, like much of the Gotham lore this season, is unoriginal and stale, it did finally come to fruition. Maybe the Titans will be kicked into more action and at a quicker pace as a result. Maybe the interpersonal relationships—between the Titans or Dick and Barbara or everyone and Jason—will be put to the test and come out with more complex understandings of themselves. But then again, there are still a considerable 5 more episodes left to stretch it all out.

  • ‘MORTAL KOMBAT’ Sequels In Development

    ‘MORTAL KOMBAT’ Sequels In Development

Warner Bros. has challenged 2021 with the most daring strategy. They’ve established that every film would release simultaneously on their new streaming service HBO Max. Of course, it ended up cutting into the film’s box office performance but still kept some hope we’ll see future sequels. Mortal Kombat even managed to keep the top spot of most-viewed release and it seems they’re already working on various spin-offs as a result of its success.

The reveal is hidden in a piece by Variety where Dune director Denis Villeneuve discusses his trust that this release strategy won’t stop him from developing a sequel to his upcoming release. In it, they also reveal that an insider heard that sequels on various Mortal Kombat characters are in some form of development. It seems they’re planning on creating a universe that explores the many realms within the MK universe.

Mortal Kombat: Sorgt in den USA für größtes Kinowochenende seit Beginn der Pandemie

The first film tried to change up the rules of the gaming franchise, as it tries to explain how human characters have special abilities. We also never got to witness the titular tournament, which seems likely what various spin-offs might build up towards. The ending teased the appearance of Johnny Cage, who may get his own film as he’s become the mainstay throughout the franchise.

Of course, there’s the question if we continue exploring Cole’s story, or they might shift focus moving forward. He was a newly introduced character whose ties to Scorpion made him the main protagonist. Yet, his literal plot armor helped him survive the first onslaught and who knows if the death of Sub-Zero might lure in his brother’s wrath.

  • ‘THE BATMAN’ Spin-Off Focused on Penguin In Development for HBO MAX

‘THE BATMAN’ Spin-Off Focused on Penguin In Development for HBO MAX

It looks like The Batman might continue to expand, as Deadline has unveiled an HBO Max series is in early development to explore the story of one of his iconic villains, the Penguin. Dylan Clark and Matt Reeves are acting as executive producers with their 6th and Idaho Dylan Clark Productions alongside Warner Bros. Television and DC Entertainment. The plan seems to give Oswald Cobblepot a Scarface storyline that explores his rise to the iconic mob boss. Colin Farrell will play him in the upcoming film, but there’s no word he’ll also play it in the series.

It’s the second series that takes place in this universe. It was originally going to explore the corrupted Gotham PD during Batman’s first year. Reports in august hinted at the spin-off getting a new direction and will explore Arkham Asylum in some way. It’s mostly hinted at due to the new working title rumored to be Arkham as it finally enters production.

It’ll be interesting to see if other characters get spin-offs moving forward, as The Batman will build up an extensive universe around the character’s rogue’s gallery. Exploring the life of a Falcone or Maroni family member with the mysterious Bat luring over their heads would make for a compelling drama. They could even introduce more complex stories of villains before they face the bat in a future film. Reeves remains heavily involved with these projects and it’ll be interesting to see how it continues to grow in the future.

  • First Look at ‘PEACEMAKER’s New Team

First Look at ‘PEACEMAKER’s New Team

Many fans are ecstatic to see John Cena’s return to the DCEU in Peacemaker, a series that’ll continue the man on a quest for peace following the events of The Suicide Squad. Many thought Peacemaker’s fate was sealed upon a fatal gunshot wound from Bloodsport to the throat alongside the debris of Jotunheim. It seemingly ended any possibility of his return. The end credits of the film tell a different story, with Christopher Smith pulled from the rubble and now tasked with saving the world from who knows what.

The series is set to debut in January 2022 exclusively on HBO Max, and while no exact date has been set for its debut, we’re going to be getting our first real good look at the series just next month at DC Fandome. To tide us over until then, Entertainment Weekly has released a new still featuring Peacemaker alongside returning stars Steve Agee and Jennifer Holland alongside some new faces.

For those who may have missed the post credit scene for The Suicide Squad. We learn that Amanda Waller has reassigned John Economos and Emilia Harcourt to Peacemaker as punishment for knocking her out and helping Task Force X kill Starro, which led to the saving of Corto Maltese. Joining the team is Freddie Stroma as Vigilante, Chukwudi Iwuji as Clemson Murn, and Danielle Brooks as Leota Adebayo. It’ll be interesting to see how the events in Corto Maltese and the murder of Colonel Rick Flag may affect Smith’s second lease on life.
