Guardians of the Galaxy are back! They are set to return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in a big way. We have the third, and likely final, installment of the current roster of characters and a Holiday Special just around the corner. James Gunn is back in the director’s chair before taking on his duties as head of DC Studios and focusing more on another cinematic universe.
While he has already signed on for the new job, he is still going to be busy preparing and marketing the upcoming Marvel release. As such, he has taken to his personal Twitter account to share a BTS image of him with his brother Sean Gunn as Kraglin and Kevin Bacon, who is making his MCU debut in the upcoming Holiday Special.
Surprisingly, the trailer for the Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special has been quite revealing, as it gave away the storyline of Drax and Mantis going to Earth to kidnap Star-Lord’s personal hero, Kevin Bacon. For the first time, an actor is set to play themselves in the universe and it’ll be interesting to see how they tackle his character, especially with the wacky interactions that are teased in the trailer.
It’ll be Marvel Studios’ second holiday special but the first that is specifically marketed as such. Werewolf by Night was technically for the Halloween season and had the fitting atmosphere for it, but it doesn’t hold that title with “Halloween Special” added. So, we’ll see how Gunn combines his usual sense of humor with the holiday spirit.
Daredevil: Born Again looks primed to be Marvel Studios most anticipated streaming series to date. Between the confirmed roles of Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio and the rumored return of JonBernthal as The Punisher, the hype around the series has grown steadily since it was revealed by Kevin Feige at SDCC ’22.
Though the show doesn’t go into production for another few months and little about the plot has leaked out, Feige has indicated that Daredevil, along with Spider-Man, will lead the charge of street-level heroes in the MCU. To that end, a new rumor from a wildly inconsistent source claims that another street-level hero from the pages of the Marvel Comics will be making an appearance in Daredevil: Born Again. According to GFR, White Tiger will join Daredevil in the streaming series.
The mantle of White Tiger has been carried by several characters over the years and Matt Murdock has a pretty solid history with a pair of them in Hector Ayala and Angela del Toro. The rumor claims that Marvel Studios has landed Jenna Ortega for the role, meaning Daredevil: Born Again will likely feature del Toro’s version of the character, who played a large role in and around New York City in the years prior to the Shadowland event.
This is the part of the article where outlets tell you to take the information with a grain of salt; however, I’ll only say that not only does White Tiger make sense for an 18-episode street-level series but also that the character was mentioned to me this week in two different conversations, though at no point were actors discussed.
Should Ortega indeed land the role, it would be her second within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Ortega previously played the daughter of Miguel Ferrer’s Vice President Rodriguez in 2013’s Iron Man 3. Cue the ridiculous fan theories. Daredevil: Born Again begins production in February of 2023 ahead of a 2024 release on Disney Plus.
Daredevil: Born Again looks to be Marvel Studios’ most ambitious foray into streaming yet with a nearly year-long production timeline and an 18-episode season set to hit Disney Plus in 2024. Both Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio are confirmed to reprise their respective roles as Matt Murdock and Wilson Fisk, but though casting is underway no additional roles for the series have become public knowledge to date. Of course, fans haven’t let that stop them from speculating who will be in it and predetermining who should be in it and a common name on both those lists is Deborah Ann Woll’s Karen Page. While fans are eager to see her reprise the role, Woll may have delivered some bad news.
In an interview with Inside of You podcast, Woll revealed that she hasn’t been invited back for the role yet despite filming being scheduled to kick of in February. When asked about her potential involvement in Daredevil: Born Again, Woll got straight to the point.
I can say this: they have not called me yet. So as of now, I am not a part of it. I would be thrilled to get to be a part of it. They know where I am. Like I said, I love the character Karen Page. I love telling that story. I feel like I have more to say. But it is up to them what kind of story that they want to tell.
Deborah Ann Woll
Given Daredevil’s abrupt cancellation at Netflix, it stands to reason that Woll, along with many other actors and actresses who were a part of the show’s 3 seasons, would believe that their individual character arcs were not complete. In fact, given how key Page was to the events of the first 3 seasons of Daredevil, it’s hard to imagine continuing the story without her. However, Marvel Studios One-Above-All Kevin Feige has indicated that Daredevil: Born Again is not considered to be Season 4 of the Netflix show and Cox has called the D+ series a “whole new deal”, so it’s possible that the Marvel Studios series will be exploring a new take on the character, complete with the sort of retellings that Cox has readily teased. And it looks like, for the time being at least, that means having Murdock move on without Page. Could a love interest like Kirsten McDuffie be headed for Daredevil:Born Again in Page’s absence? With casting right around the corner, perhaps fans will find out soon enough.
Theory Thursdays are pretty special at Murphy’s Multiverse and it looks as though one of the most recent bits of speculation might turn out to have been spot on! According to a new report from insider Daniel RPK, the villain of the upcoming Disney Plus streaming series Wonder Man will be exactly who Hunter Radesi posited him to be just a few weeks ago.
Casting has begun for the series, which is expected to begin production in the Spring of 2023, and with that comes a description of the villain of the piece, who happens to be the agent of struggling actor Simon Williams, aka Wonder Man. As pointed out in the theory, the villain may well be based on a character first introduced in 1991’s Wonder Man comic book series, created by Gerard Jones and Jeff Johnson. That series introduced Simon’s agent, Neal Saroyan, who was ultimately revealed to be a supervillain in charge of a cadre of assassins known as The Nobility.
Rumors swirled recently that Bob Odenkirk was engaged in talks for the role of the agent, but no official word has come along on if he’d taken the role. Given Odenkirk’s body of work in Better Call Saul and Nobody, he would seem the perfect fit for an otherwise non-descript character who turns out to be a deadly assassin. Wonder Man is expected to stream on Disney Plus in 2024.
There’s been a lot of rumors surrounding Marvel Studios’ future projects. Especially the upcoming adaptation of Secret Invasion has been the focus given its topic of exploring a world infiltrated by the Skrull. A story exploring agents trying to figure out if the person next to them can be trusted opens up many possibilities, especially with a project focused on the spy aspects of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Of course, when spies are involved it becomes a hot topic if it also means many more SHIELD agents from the comics could make an appearance. Not just that but also the possibility of seeing actors return from the ABC series Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., especially Chloe Bennet who played the Marvel character of Daisy Johnson or better known as Quake. Rumors went wild on her potential return to the franchise and a new post may have reignited just that.
Bennet has taken to her Instagram account and shared a rather simple group of photos. Yet, she seemingly put some daisies in her shoe, which has led to many in the comments believing that she may be subtlety hinting at her potential return to the franchise.
Of course, it’s not really a confirmation of any kind but it’s definitely a fun little tease by the actress even if it’s simply to pay tribute to the role she played during the Marvel TV era. Whatever may come from it, it definitely may spark some fun in once again revisiting the series and theorizing on how she might arrive in the MCU, which could be similar to how they handled Charlie Cox‘s return as Daredevil.
The moment Marvel Studios unveiled plans for Avengers: Secret Wars, it felt like anything suddenly became possible. The Multiverse Saga was upon us and while we only got a glimpse in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, something that seems entirely on purpose in retrospect to build up what is yet to come, it does seem like the perfect way to slowly bring back some iconic stars from Marvel’s cinematic and TV history.
One of the most hopeful returns has been some of the 20th Century Fox actors, especially from the X-Men franchise. Luckily, it seems that one actor is definitely on board as Kelsey Grammer, who once played Beast in X-Men: The Last Stand and X-Men: Days of Future Past, and gave us quite an iconic incarnation ith very little time on screen. Not only does he want to return but he also makes an ultimatum in an interview with MovieWeb.
If they don’t ask me to return to the role of Beast, I’ll never go to Disneyland again. I’d love for them to do that. I want to do that.
Kelsey Grammer
There’s the possibility that we see this actor return to the role even before Secret Wars; if Marvel Studios even ends up approaching him. Hugh Jackman is already confirmed to take on the role of Wolverine once more in the upcoming Deadpool threequel and they could also reintroduce some familiar faces from the original X-Men franchise. So, we’ll see if he might end up having a role after all.
Marvel Studios has been on a roll as of late. They kicked off Phase 4 with their usual cinematic fanfare but also added some Diseny+ series to the mix. No matter where one stands on the matter, it’s not an easy undertaking, and has expanded Marvel Studios as a result as well. They absorbed Marvel TV and have started a big move in hiring many people to take over the new load. So, this isn’t something they weren’t preparing for in the first place.
Still, it seems that a rumor has been making the rounds in regard to Marvel Studios’ other major project, animation. While What If…? released last year, they have been actively working on various projects with a Marvel Zombies spin-off, a revival of the cult 90s X-Men: The Animated series in X-Men ’97, a Spider-Man series, and who knows what else is in the works. Yet, according to Geeks Worldwide’s KC Walsh, they may be facing some layoffs and are actively waiting for their release to greenlgiht future seasons.
For those that might be wondering if that isn’t the norm, animation takes a long time to develop and any wasted minute means that production will take even longer to keep the momentum up. Commonly they develop a season and are already working on the next when it starts airing. Yet, Marvel Studios may be taking cues from its previous experiences and trying to get a feeling that this project is even worth the investment.
On the one hand, it sucks that animation tends to get shafted first when there’s a need for saving money but there’s also the fact that they could use the time to focus more on their live-action ventures. Animation being treated as its own division may help keep that focus and take away the pressure from the bigger expectation set upon it as part of the Marvel Cinematic Multiverse.
She-Hulk, Attorney at Law did a lot as a series, as it not only gave us Marvel Studios’ first venture into sitcom territory but also added some interesting new elements to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. of course, all eyes have been on the addition of Daredevil finally making his return to the franchise, it also gave us some heartfelt moments with Jennifer Walters’ cousin, the Hulk himself.
The biggest reveal came at the very end of the series when Hulk introduced everyone to his son, Skaar. His design has left many scratching their head, as it was quite a departure from the original that many spent time reading in the comics. Surprisingly, it seems that they had one version as revealed by concept artist and illustrator Constantine Sekeris on his ArtStation. It’s definitely closer to what we know from the comics, especially the long hair and sword.
His design in the series is definitely a departure from the comics and sadly it seems we might have to wait a bit longer before we get him to look a bit more like his comic counterpart. Still, there’s some excitement to see what they may have planned for a character like Skaar in the MCU. The franchise is expanding in new and curious ways, which adds to the potential of what he may look like once the character returns to a project later down the line.
Fans of Black Panther and its sequel should be happy to hear that Marvel Studios has confirmed that there are multiple Disney+ projects in the works based on Wakanda. According to Marvel Studios EP Nate Moore, some of the series in mind would involve existing characters, such as the Okoye-centric project that’s been in development for some time, while others would focus on characters “that would be completely new.”
Daredevil: Born Again is one of three Disney Plus streaming series set to film in the first half of 2023, joining Agatha: Coven of Chaos and Wonder Man. Early word had the Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio-led Daredevil series headed to New York City for production, returning to the familiar locations fans grew accustomed to over 3 seasons of the Netflix series. Production is expected to last nearly all of 2023, beginning in February and wrapping in December.
Indiana Jones is set to make a big comeback with the upcoming fifth film starring Harrison Ford in the iconic role once again. Yet, it seems that Disney is not interested in leaving it with just that single project. According to a new report by Variety, it seems they are also hoping to develop a Disney+ series based on the iconic archaeologist’s globe-trotting adventures. They don’t have a writer or showrunner in place. So, it’s not a definite project at the moment but definitely something they are looking into.
Lastly, a very heartbreaking exclusive about the upcoming live-action Lilo & Stitch movie revealed that the iconic character Cobra Bubbles will be replaced. Of course, news that one of the greatest Disney animated films of all time would be receiving the latest live-action treatment was distressing enough. Still, the fact that Agent Bubbles was not deemed worthy of making the cut is absolutely absurd and a crushing blow to any reasonable-minded person. Perhaps the only post-1990s 2D Disney animated films to actually become a classic, Lilo & Stitch is a journey that spans space, friendship, and family. The film boasts an amazing soundtrack as well, and it is unclear how a live-action film could ever do it justice. Bubbles was a pillar of the original film, serving as the social worker constantly threatening to separate Lilo and her sister, Nani, as Nani does her best as a teenage older sister and pseudo-single-parent after the two’s parents die tragically as per Disney tradition. It is near impossible to see how a remake that forsakes Bubbles could be the Hawaiian Rollercoaster Ride that the beloved Lilo & Stitch embodies. Disney apparently forgot the film’s most famous quote: “Ohana means family. Family means nobody gets left behind or forgotten.”
There was quite some surprise when it was revealed that Aubrey Plaza was joining the upcoming Agatha: Coven of Chaos Disney+ series. She’s been a long-time hopeful to become a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and many assumed she’d take on a much larger role in one of the film projects. Surprisingly, she found the role perfect for her in the WandaVision spinoff, and it seems her reasoning is quite simple: she wants to work with Kathryn Hahn.
Agatha: Coven of Chaos’—I haven’t talked about it yet. It’s a fun character. I’ll just say, speaking of manifestations…it’s all coming together for me with this part. Kathryn Hahn, she’s a friend of mine; I’ve known her for years. We shared a couple moments onscreen in ‘Parks and Recreation’ 10 years ago, but I’ve never gotten to work with her, really. She’s one of the most incredible actresses that’s working today. She’s a friend of mine. She speaks my language. To be able to get onscreen with her and go toe-to-toe with her is what’s driving me. I think it’s cool that it’s Marvel and all that, but I’m really just interested to work with Kathryn Hahn.
Aubrey Plaza
It’s definitely great to see her enthusiasm for reuniting with her Parks and Recreation co-star, and one can’t blame her given just how much fun Hahn has been as one of Marvel Studios’ latest major characters. Her popularity from Marvel Studios’ first venture led to her getting one of the first spinoffs alongside Haweye‘s Echo, which technically was the first Disney+ spinoff to be announced.
