Elizabeth Olsen spent most of 2020 and much of 2021 inhabiting the role of Wanda Maximoff as the actress moved directly from production of WandaVision into production on Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. After having some time off from Marvel Studios, new rumors point to Olsen’s schedule getting pretty full again in the near future.
According to a scooper MyTimetoShineHello, Marvel Studios is keen to get Olsen back in action in a big way following her next appearance in the Strange sequel. The scooper claims that Wanda stans will get to see the Scarlet Witch in not only an adaptation of Alan Heinberg’s limited series, Avengers: The Children’s Crusade, but also in a solo Scarlet Witch project. Though the scoops indicated both projects are in development, no additional information was given about the order in which they might appear or whether they are intended to end up as streaming series or theatrical releases.

Given the rumors about Wanda’s character arc in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, an adaptation of The Children’s Crusade seems like the perfect handoff for the character. The 9-issue event sees one of Wanda’s sons, Billy, go in search of his missing mother as he starts to realize the full potential of his own, potentially dangerous powers. Billy teams up with his brother, Tommy, and other members of the Young Avengers to track down Wanda who is spending time with one of Marvel’s most wonderful characters: Victor Von Doom. As with most things, MCU, it’s highly unlikely that Marvel Studios The Children’s Crusade would be a direct adaptation of the event.
The Scarlet Witch solo project, should it come after The Children’s Crusade, could take inspiration from James Robinson’s 2016 Marvel Comic’s series, The Scarlet Witch, and take Wanda on a journey of discovery of just what being her generation’s Scarlet Witch entails.
For the past year, it seems the only Marvel projects anyone has talked have been the smash-hit Spider-Man: No Way Home and the upcoming Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. This is with good reason, of course, as both films were surrounded by whispers of insane cameos and exciting character reveals. However, fans shouldn’t be so quick to forget about an entirely different MCU project that also looks to have it’s hands full in the guest department. She-Hulk is set to debut on Disney+ later this year, and the 10-episode “comedy” series is rumored to be just as jam packed with surprise appearances as it’s higher-profile siblings.
The difference is that, aside from some previously established stars like Benedict Wong‘s Wong and Charlie Cox‘s Matt Murdock, most of the rumored cameos will supposedly be from characters even hardcore Marvel fans may not know. A recent Reddit post named a handful of C-Listers as potential guests on the show, and gained a bit of credibility when an audition tape for one of those characters, Mr. Immortal, seemingly leaked online. If you’re not sure who that is, have no fear. Articles like this one exist to keep people informed. Read on to discover a few more of the relative unknowns, and learn about their brief comic book histories.
Mr. Immortal
Craig Hollis, better known as Mr. Immortal, made his biggest impact on the Marvel Universe as a founding member of the Great Lakes Avengers. As a child, Hollis was visited by a cosmic entity calling itself Deathurge, which often attempted to put him in life-threatening situations. After a tragic event which resulted in the death of his father, Craig learned that Deathurge had granted, or cursed, him with immortality. Every time Hollis dies, he is immediately resurrected. In his adult years he would decide to put this ability to good use and become a costumed superhero, creating a team of similarly mediocre do-gooders operating out of the Great Lakes region.
Mr. Immortal was rumored to appear in She-Hulk asking Jen to help with a divorce from his wife, something the leaked audition tape supported when it’s dialogue involved the character mentioning both a failed marriage and a failed suicide attempt. In the leaked video, actor Tom Archdeacon is trying out for the role, but he isn’t the first person to go for the red-and-blue tights. Derek Theler, of Baby Daddy fame, was once attached to play Hollis in a loose adaptation of New Warriors for the Freeform channel. A pilot was filmed, but never released, opening the door for a new performer to possibly take the role for Disney+.
Man-Bull
Another rumor from the same Reddit leak claims that Tim Roth‘s Abomination will at some point set up a mountainside retreat for “various low-tier villains and other side characters”. Among those named as inhabitants of the retreat is Man-Bull, a lesser known antagonist from the pages of Marvel’s Daredevil comics. William “Bill” Taurens (a clever last name) was a low-class thug hired to round up human test subjects for a mysterious scientist’s new experimental serum. The serum was seemingly designed as an enhancer, taken from the genetics of a bull, and Taurens was forced to undergo the procedure himself after Daredevil prevented him from kidnapping anyone else. Transforming into a large, bull-like creature, Taurens took on the name Man-Bull and sought his revenge.
He would go on to clash with Daredevil on multiple occasions, though he never managed to rise to arch-villain status. Man-Bull’s story would get more interesting in later appearances, coming into conflict with characters like Hulk, the Scarlet Witch, and Hercules. He even once found himself infused with extra power, becoming a version of the Minotaur from ancient Greek legend. Unfortunately, it’s likely none of this will come to pass if he shows up in She-Hulk, where Man-Bull is an odds-on candidate for comic relief.
Porcupine
Alongside Man-Bull at the mountainside retreat is purportedly Porcupine, who has had a few iterations in the comics. The original character to don the identity was actually a member of the United States Army, one Alexander Gentry. A weapons designer, he crafted a military battle suit inspired by the abilities of a porcupine. Anyone wearing the armor would be coated in a layer of powerful quill-like weaponry, which doubled as self-projectiles or tubes to fire other ammunition such as poisonous pellets, gas, fire, and other objects of the sort. Obviously, things with the army didn’t go as planned, and Gentry instead used his invention to turn to a life of crime. His first superhero opponents were the original Ant-Man and Wasp, but he would also eventually come into contact with other big name heroes like Captain America, Moon Knight, and the Fantastic Four.
Over time, a man named Roger Gocking would also begin using the Porcupine suit. Though he lacks an established background, he did follow in his predecessors footsteps by joining a variety of supervillain teams to support his own middle-of-the-road status. Around the same time as Gocking’s emergence, a mutant teenager named Billy Bates would develop porcupine-like powers and take the name for himself. It’s unclear which alias of Porcupine is allegedly scheduled to appear in She-Hulk, but Bates’ mutant origin may knock him from contention.
Baron Blood
Perhaps the most interesting claimed constituent of Abomination’s little club is Baron Blood, who actually has sort of a long history in Marvel’s comics. Blood, born as English aristocrat John Falsworth, originally came to prominence as an adversary of The Invaders during World War II. He is the younger brother of longtime Invaders feature Union Jack, who, after losing his fortune to the elder Falsworth, travels to Transylvania to pursue his love vampirism. An encounter with Dracula turns John into an undying bat-like vampire, which apparently also results in a lapse of moralism as the newly-christened Baron Blood sides with the Nazis and begins battling his brother’s super heroic allied forces.
Blood’s importance in the comics has diminished since his early appearances, but he has continued to surface occasionally and cause trouble for his former World War rivals. Other versions of the character have been introduced in later stories, like an undead version of Doctor Strange’s brother and John Falsworth’s great nephew Kenneth Crichton, but it’s most probable the original is who might appear in She-Hulk. His brother James is already canon to the MCU, having been portrayed in a minor role by JJ Feild in Captain America: The First Avenger. Maybe Blood’s rumored cameo will allow more World War II stories to be told in the future of the MCU, or even establish an unexpected connection with Marvel Studios’ upcoming reboot of the Blade franchise.
Moon Knight will be our first foray into the darker corners of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, while also dipping its toes in Egyptian mythology. We first learned that the series was fully embracing the character’s roots when it added Egyptian director Mohamed Diab, and it seems that one more talent is joining the project. According to Film Music Reporter, composer Hesham Nazih has composed original music for the Disney+ series, marking his first English-language project. It’s unclear if he worked n all six episodes, but he has supposedly been a major part of its creation.
It’s great to see Marvel Studios rely on local talent to add that flair to these projects. The teaser trailer did tease sequences of Marc Spector in Egypt, which they may have relied on the composer to add to the score of those sequences. It’s a great way to add an additional layer to the series, as it embraces the cultures it reflects. Hopefully, this is also a sign that other projects with a stronger international focus may also rely on local talents moving forward.
We’re only a few more weeks away from its release on Disney+, but Moon Knight is slowly becoming one of those must-watch series with its unique tone and potential direction. It may be a sign that not only Marvel Studios is ready to embrace darker characters and stories, but also for the streaming service to finally “grow up.” The release of the Netflix series with a parental control system is a sign that the streaming future for Disney might look quite a bit different in the near future.
A few months back, an anonymous Reddit post indicated that the Marvel Studios Disney Plus streaming series She-Hulk would feature cameos from all sorts of wild and crazy Marvel characters. Names like Man-Bull, Porcupine and even Mr. Immortal where thrown out there as characters who would show up over the course of the 10-episode series. Now, thanks to what appears to be an audition tape for She-Hulk, one of those cameos could be confirmed.
The audition video, shared by The Cosmic Circus, features actor Tom Archdeacon speaking to a pair of female lawyers about a divorce. During the course of the discussion, the character mentions that rather than talk to his wife about a divorce, he chose to walk out into traffic and kill himself. He then goes on to reveal that he is immortal and explain how his powers work.
While Archdeacon refers to himself as “Doctor Revive” in the video, his powers fit the bill of Mr. Immortal, aka Craig Hollis, a member of the Great Lakes Avengers. Mr. Immortal is just the type of off-the-wall character that fans should expect from She-Hulk, which I continue to hear has more of a comedic tone than any MCU project to date.
While filming in Halifax, photos and videos of Marvel Studios’ Secret Invasion set have been slowly coming to light. While previous images have given us our first look at certain actors such as Samuel L. Jackson, Kingsley Ben-Adir, Emilia Clarke, and Cobie Smulders, much about the future Disney+ series remains under wraps. Yet, it seems that it wasn’t quite the end of our glipses behind the scenes.
There is still no official word on Game of Thronesalum Emilia Clarke’s character, and considering the series involves shape-shifting Skrulls, many characters are bound to remain mysterious until the series eventually ends. While previous videos have shown her character acting suspicious, a new set video appears to show Clarke’s character in some sort of fight with someone wearing a grey motion-capture CGI suit. While the video does not include audio, it looks like the CGI character is choking Clarke’s character out while she’s on the ground. See it here:
While the motion-capture suit character could be anything, a Super Skrull is an obvious guess in Secret Invasion. The video does not show a lot, but it does suggest that Clarke could be in some action scenes and potentially at odds with at least one version of it. We’ve seen practical make-up for the regular Skrulls. So, it might open up the window to their overly-sized powered versions to join as well. The series will not drop on Disney+ anytime soon, so fans have plenty of time to speculate while hype builds for the highly-anticipated show.
It’s been some time since we got our first hints that Krysten Ritter might return as Jessica Jones in the upcoming She-Hulk series. Yet, there was nothing that really hinted at her appearance. Charlie Cox‘s appearance as Matt Murdock in Spider-Man: No Way Home and the recent addition of the Netflix series on Disney+ added to the rest of the Marvel series’ cast potentially appearing. Now, a new series of photos hint at her returning to the classic Jones look.
Hairstylist Melanie Jacobs shared a curious series of photos of Ritter, which has her in the same hairdo that she had during her time as the private investigator. Not only that, she is even wearing a very similar leather jacket in the photos with a purple shirt, one of the character’s recurring colors. You can check them out here:
We can’t take this as a confirmation that she’s definitely returning, especially with the rumors hinting at a series that technically already wrapped production. Yet, it may hint at Krysten Ritter potentially returning to the role in another project. Otherwise, she may just have made the style her own and wanted to revisit it.
Her potential return has been a popular theory as of late, and it’s unclear where she might make her return outside of the law-focused storyline featuring a new generation of Hulk. Ritter offered a great take on the character and it would be a shame not to see her return. Hopefully, Marvel Studios has some plans to announce in the near future to build on the momentum of the Netflix series joining Disney+.
Loki is quite a different kind of series from previous entries in the franchise. While there is some action to enjoy, it is mostly a dialogue-heavy storyline. We spend a lot of time with Loki, Sylvia, Morbius, and everyone else talking as the story unravels. Aided by the unique atmosphere, it offered a very different take on what you’d expect from a Marvel series and that was something head writer Michael Waldron intended to do.
During a panel discussion with the rest of the Loki cast and team, he talked about how their dialogue-heavy focus was intentional to focus on what the trickster god is known for. As such, they wanted to show him trying to haggle his way out of conversations, which did lead to some delightful moments throughout the series run. As he points out:
One of Loki’s superpowers is his ability to talk his way out of any situation, talk his way into any situation. You want to watch Superman fly, so I wanted to watch Loki talk. And so because this was a show — because we had six hours — that was the most exciting thing to me. We get to take a villain from an action movie franchise and have these dialogue-heavy scenes that feel like prestige television.
Michael Waldron
That is also a reason why they had quite a few long takes on the project. Tom Hiddleston pointed out that Owen Wilson approached him comparing the project to a play. Director Kate Herron added that the scale of this project felt like three Marvel films being tackled due to how much content they could put together in its six-hour runtime. They certainly delivered and offered a very unique take on what it means to be a Marvel series.
We’re still anticipating any news on what the second season of Loki has in store for us. Tom Hiddleston will return as the trickster god after landing in what may be a new version of the Time Variance Authority, as no one seems to remember him. He was forced to leave his multiversal Variant Sylvie, played amazingly by Sophia Di Martino, behind who ended up unleashing the multiverse. During a panel hosted by the Royal Television Society, he and the rest of the Disney+ series cast got a chance to look back at the series, where Hiddleston briefly talked about being “a temporary torchbearer” for the role, as he went on to say:
I’ve always thought that. It’s a great role. It’s an archetype, the trickster god, the agent of chaos. I’m just here interpreting that for the time being. Loki has been here for centuries and will be here for centuries more and I’m just stepping into that silhouette for now.
Tom Hiddleston
Even if he talked about the temporary time with the character, he did offer a little tease of why they decided to leave viewers with that cliffhanger and what the direction may be going into the second season.
This idea of somehow the [Time Variance Authority] confronting Loki with the shape-shifting nature of his identity and asking him ‘Who are you?’ I found it a new avenue to explore with this character I’ve been playing for a while. It felt original. It didn’t feel like we were repeating.
Tom Hiddleston
The ending certainly kept people on their toes and probably left quite the impression with viewers. Everyone he had built a connection with over time has now forgotten who he is. Sylvie is also left in a dark spot after stabbing He Who Remains, and we don’t know if she’ll find a way back to the TVA or remain there. It certainly is going to be a new direction for the series and here’s hoping the wait isn’t too much longer.
Disney+ didn’t waste any time to announce that the former Netflix shows created by Marvel TV were making their way to the streaming service. It was quite the announcement, as not only did it imply more adult-themed content for the streaming service, but also further pushed the return of these characters to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Daredevil’s Charlie Cox made his return in Spider-Man: No Way Home and was quite excited with the former Netflix series joining Disney+ with a cheeky comic reference in an interview with ComicBook.com.
This was actually when this news that you talked about came out, I was texting with some of the guys from the show and the text I wrote was, ‘Born Again.’
Charlie Cox
He was also asked about the future of his character, such as a potential PG version of the character even after the darker take on Netflix. While he does point out that he’d prefer the darker stories and that his character isn’t the same as Spider-Man, he is still open to the idea and thinks Marvel could make it work.
I wouldn’t put it past the folks at Marvel to be able to accomplish that. I’m such a fan of everything they’ve done so far, I wouldn’t underestimate them at all. So if they wanted to make a more PG version of Daredevil, I back them to find a way to do where it feels totally in keeping with everything we’ve done. And maybe there’s a little less blood, maybe there’s a little whatever, but I back them to do it.
Charlie Cox
Their next Disney+ series is offering a promising darker take within that universe while also sticking to a parental control-free rating with Moon Knight. While the series might not be as dark as the previous entries, it doesn’t seem like they are open to the possibility. Deadpool has also been confirmed to become an R-rated project, which might hint that Marvel Studios is exploring beyond their PG fare. For now, it’s just fun to speculate.
It’s been long-rumored now since the Marvel Netflix series like Daredevil, Jessica Jones, and more are making their way to Disney+. After many back-and-forths online, the confirmation has finally arrived, as they dropped a sudden teaser that they are joining the series on March 16th. The big takeaway is that the streaming service is embracing more mature content without restricting it to other services, especially as they went out of their way to offer bundles with Hulu. Yet, this addition might have bigger implications for Marvel Studios’ future ventures.
The timing for these additions is perfect with a darker-toned Moon Knight just on the horizon. Not just that, but it also means that older R-rated projects like Blade, Deadpool, Logan, or more can get added soon. Not just that, we know that Deadpool 3 is going to be an R-rated project and now we don’t have to worry about it potentially landing on Hulu. It’ll be part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and it would’ve been a shame if it wasn’t going to be part of the showcase in Disney+.
The streamer was showcased as an “archive” for classic projects from Marvel, Pixar, and any other Disney brand. So, its family-friendly focus is not only restrictive from an archival standpoint but also creatively. They lost a lot of projects early on due to this restriction, such as the Lizzie McGuire revival and pushing the Love Simon spinoff, Love Victor, to Hulu. While it seems unlikely we’ll get an R-rated Pixar film any time soon, Marvel and Star Wars are very different stories. This move might be an implication that Disney+ Original projects will no longer fully adhere to the streaming’s initial set-up.
Marvel may be able to fully embrace the darker and more mature tones that upcoming projects may have. Moon Knight is a big implication of Disney+ maturing, which we’ve talked bout here, but it also means R-rated projects are a possibility. The long-rumored Werewolf by Night project can embrace the darker aspects of having a werewolf-centric story. Their Blade remake might also start moving towards an R-rating, as there are no longer concerns about streaming availability being restricted to specific services.
There’s also the continuation to keep in mind, as we know Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio returned in the roles they made famous. Rumors are hinting at a new Daredevil revival, which now can embrace the darker story arcs introduced through the Netflix incarnations. There are more mature storylines possible now that the glass ceiling has been broken. It may be a small step for now, but once Deadpool or Logan get added with the parent control sometime in the future, we might be able to see the first steps for a new MCU.
