RUMOR: Netflix’s ‘Daredevil’, ‘Luke Cage’ and More Will Remain Unedited on Disney+, Even in the US

Netflix’s Marvel series, which includes Daredevil, Luke Cage, Jessica Jones, and more, are only a few days away from leaving the streaming platform to find a new home. Just earlier today, we’ve learned that the new home would end up being Disney+ after all. What has any confusion is that the announcement is purely through Canada, which offers the Star branding for mature content. Well, a new report by That Hashtag Show hints that there’s a chance that not only will they also release in the US version but also unedited.

Disney has made some bizarre choices by editing and censoring some of its films. Yet, it seems that they might luckily leave these projects untouched, something even the showrunner of Luke Cage, Cheo Hodari Coker, feared in a recent Twitter thread discussing the history of the project before it leaves Netflix. The US version will release around the same time as the announced March 16th date. So, violence and language will remain the same.

The way Disney+ will handle these more mature projects is through the new Parental Guidance content warning. It may also open up the path for other projects like Deadpool or Logan finding their way to the regular Disney+. There is currently no word if we should expect these projects to retain their “Marvel” logo and end up alongside other Marvel TV projects, or with the recent appearances of Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio as part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe timeline. We’ll have to wait a few more weeks until we find out.

  • BREAKING: Netflix’s Marvel Show Heading to Disney+ in March

BREAKING: Netflix’s Marvel Show Heading to Disney+ in March

We’ve been waiting for any sign of what the future has in store for Netflix’s Marvel series. Without a warning, Netflix suddenly included the information that the shows like Daredevil, Jessica Jones, and more will leave the service by the end of February. Well, it seems we finally got an update, as an e-mail is making the rounds, as shared by @shayhbaz, where it’s revealed that the shows are heading to Disney+ on March 16th.

It’s quite the surprising reveal without much fanfare given how iconic these franchises are. So far, the e-mail has only been sent to Canadian outlets, which could open up the possibility of them landing on Diseny+ through the Star branding, which is currently absent in the United States. At this point, no official word has come down from Disney about their U.S. plans. Still, it would make sense that they’d find their permanent home on the Marvel-filled library of the streamer. Hopefully, they won’t start censoring elements of these stories to fit the branding image, but with Moon Knight on the horizon, they may consider finally aging up their main demographic moving forward.

  • Regina King Almost Directed an Episode of ‘Luke Cage’

Regina King Almost Directed an Episode of ‘Luke Cage’

Looking back at any series or film, it’s sometimes the things that didn’t end up happening that catch our curiosity the most. Cheo Hodari Coker, the showrunner of Netflix’s Luke Cage series, has taken to Twitter to share some memories from bringing the cultural landmark to life. Not only did he reveal that Iron Fist was originally going to film before their project did, it seems that they also had plans for Regina King to tackle an episode. Sadly, it seems that he was outvoted on her inclusion. Sadly, it didn’t happen but that didn’t stop the actress from leaving quite an impression, especially with her directorial work on One Night in Miami… back in 2020.

From the sound of it, she would’ve joined Lucy Liu, who was also a fantastic get for the project, in its second season. Besides the already mentioned film, King has also been known for her work on pürojects like the animated The Boondocks series, The Strain, and taking on the main role for Watchmen. She also sat behind the director’s chair for projects like This is Us, Scandal, and more. Her directorial debut also led to her becoming the second African-American woman to get nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Director. She is certainly on the radar for a new project, and we’ll see if Marvel Studios may make up for the fact the Netflix series missed out on her.

  • Netflix’s ‘Luke Cage’ Originally Was Set to Film After ‘Iron Fist’

Netflix’s ‘Luke Cage’ Originally Was Set to Film After ‘Iron Fist’

Here’s an interesting reveal, it seems that Netflix’s Luke Cage series was originally going to film after Iron Fist. As all Marvel series are about to leave the platform in a week, showrunner Cheo Hodari Coker used the chance to revisit the cultural landmark series and shared some details from behind the scenes. Among the many astounding insights into what was cut or added into the project, Coker revealed that Luke Cage was originally going to shoot much later and it was due to his inspiration to write up a draft for the series’ bible after a spark of inspiration.

It’s always incredible to think about what one spark of inspiration can do to a project. Here’s hoping we get to see that bible one day, and learn more about what rules the project set itself to bring the character to life. Here’s hoping that Coker may have a chance to return to the character and continue his story through Marvel Studios. These cultural storylines are even more important as the franchise continues to explore different corners, and it makes you hope Mike Colter’s take on the character gets a chance to interact with Sam Wilson. There’s a lot to explore here and hopefully, we’ll find out more soon.

  • New ‘Secret Invasion’ Set Photos Offer First Glimpse at a Skrull and Teases Underwater Scene

New ‘Secret Invasion’ Set Photos Offer First Glimpse at a Skrull and Teases Underwater Scene

Production on the upcoming Disney+ series Secret Invasion is well underway, as filming in Halifax, UK continues to give us glimpses of the secretive series. Now, Reddit user u/crampedcaves345 has shared even more photos from the set in Halifax. While the original post has been taken down, the photos have found their way on Twitter offering our first glimpse at a Skrull and various filming locations:

One image shows a behind-the-scenes look at an actor playing a Skrull. This is probably our first look at someone in the full make-up since the production started, as even in the initial set photos we got everyone was human. Of course, the shot from behind doesn’t give away who the Skrull might be or even offer an indication of it being someone we know. One photo shows a pummeled law enforcement vehicle, while others tease different locations and sets for the series, as one looks to be an underwater stage set while another seems to be a jungle or forest.

The underwater pool is quite curious, as it makes you wonder if it might be for a post-credit sequence or the Skrulls have even invaded Atlantis, which will supposedly make its first appearance in the MCU during Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. There’s also the chance that someone might just crash into the water. For now, all we can do is speculate. Other leaked photos and videos recently have given us some looks at characters played by Samuel L. Jackson, Cobie Smulders, Kingsley Ben-Adir, Emilia Clarke, and Ben Mendelsohn, among others. It seems like Secret Invasion might be getting less secret by the day.

  • ‘Moon Knight’ Will Premiere With Only One Episode

‘Moon Knight’ Will Premiere With Only One Episode

While we have known Disney+’s upcoming Marvel Studios project Moon Knight will premiere on March 30, 2022, the streaming service has not always been upfront with how many episodes any given Marvel show will drop on its premiere date. Hawkeye famously started with two episodes ahead of The Book of Boba Fett‘s release, but it looks like we might finally have gotten an answer on their next release.

Disney has recently revealed that Moon Knight will have a one-episode premiere. The series is set to have six episodes total, meaning that new episodes of the Oscar Isaac led MCU installment should release on Wednesdays from March 30 until May 4. Disney+ is apparently dodging the two-episode premiere strategy it used for WandaVision and Hawkeye. This also places the Moon Knight finale only a couple of days before Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness theatrical release.

Moon Knight follows Steven Grant, who discovers he has dissociative identity disorder and shares a body with mercenary Marc Spector. The series will revolve around Spector’s titular costumed alter ago and his relationships to various Egyptian gods. Kevin Feige has stated that the series will be a “tonal shift” from other MCU entries and will keep much of the violence and brutality from the comics.

  • Empire Shares More of Bill Sienkiewicz’s Moon Knight Designs Based on the Disney+ Series

Empire Shares More of Bill Sienkiewicz’s Moon Knight Designs Based on the Disney+ Series

There’s a certain tradition when it comes to superhero cinema. As we near the official release, Empire tends to release a new cover that teases the project alongside a unique collector’s cover. Moon Knight naturally followed this tradition with a full look at his costume and an amazing design by Moon Knight veteran artist Bill Sienkiewicz. Now, Empire has released some of the artwork before he nailed the final look that was shared as the exclusive subscriber cover for the magazine.

The first two are certainly quite a bit different from the design he ended on, but it highlights just how much detail has gone into bringing the live-action version to life. Most superhero adaptations tend to add details to the character designs, which were commonly minimized for the purpose of making the life of an artist on a project easier.

It’s kind of a great design to see how well it translates to artwork even if it’s a bit of a departure from the character’s original design. We cannot wait to see what the character will look like in action, especially with the trailers teasing some great action and a suspenseful take on a self-discovery storyline for Steven Grant. No, wait I mean Marc Spector. Or was it something else? I guess we’ll have to wait and see.

  • New Details On ‘Moon Knight’ Villain Revealed

New Details On ‘Moon Knight’ Villain Revealed

The character of Ethan Hawke in Moon Knight has been shrouded in mystery from the moment the acclaimed actor was announced. Dr. Arthur Harrow was a name the trailer’s closed-captioning revealed to fans but even that revelation didn’t mean much to anyone due to the obscure nature of the character in the comics.

Luckily, Hawke himself has finally shed light on just who Arthur Harrow is in the upcoming show. In an interview with Empire, Hawke said:

[He’s] the head of a kind of certain religious sect. Like a lot of zealots. He has his own ideas about what might make the world a better place and they may not include you.

Hawke initially raised eyebrows when he namedropped real-world evil cultist David Koresh as one of his inspirations for the character. For the uninitiated, Harrow in the comics is a mad scientist and not a religious figure. Knowing that Harrow is indeed a cultist makes the Koresh influence clearer. Hawke revealed other real-world figures he deemed essential to the creation of his version of Harrow:

When you build a new character, you create a blender and throw things in. So I threw in David Koresh, Fidel Castro, the Dalai Lama, Tolstoy. The best villains are the ones that think they’re heroes and that’s definitely Dr. Harrow. He sees Moon Knight as an obstacle to him healing the world.

The recent trailer of Moon Knight showcased more aspects of Harrow that we weren’t previously privy to. Scenes that revealed his tattoo coming to life and his peculiar crocodile staff summoning a burst of energy are telling of the character’s reach in the supernatural. Whether he ends up being a truly larger-than-life character remains to be seen but it’s exciting to think about.

  • New ‘Moon Knight’ Stills Provide First Look at May Calamawy’s Layla

New ‘Moon Knight’ Stills Provide First Look at May Calamawy’s Layla

Marvel Studios’ Moon Knight has consistently generated buzz over the past few weeks since the first look at the show was released. So far, the footage has mainly focused on Oscar Isaac’s Steven Grant as he struggles to make sense out of some disturbing events, most of which he can’t be sure are real. Beyond that, outside of a few glimpses of Ethan Hawke’s Arthur Harrow, the rest of the cast hasn’t been revealed.

Now, thanks to still believed to be from Empire’s coverage of the series, fans have their first look at May Calamawy’s mysterious character, Layla. A couple of the images would seem to be from flashbacks that show Oscar Issac’s Marc Spector working with Calamawy’s character in Egypt. Of course, it’s possible that these are also stills showing them revisiting Egypt later in the series, but given the gear worn by both characters, I’m inclined it’s the former scenario and takes place before Spector is killed and revived by Khonshu.

Little is known about Calamawy’s Layla, though it’s possible, given the fact that Marvel Studios seems to be reinventing minor characters for this series (like Hawke’s Harrow), that her character is a reworked Leila O’Toole, an archeologist and Egyptologist who while in Egypt studying the ruins, became a member of the Cult of the Living Pharaoh. The photos certainly seem to support her having some interest in exploring whatever dig Spector is part of and while it’s unlikely she’ll be a direct adaptation of the character (she’s probably not a mutant in the show), we still don’t know anything at all about her role in the series.
