The actress officially joined the production around three months ago and is the second Colombian American joining a DC project. She’s been an up-and-coming actress who has garnered a lot of attention after getting the leading role opposite Ansel Elgort in Steven Spielberg’s remake of West Side Story. She is joining the returning Zachary Levi, who was already sighted on set with a brand-new look as the titular hero Shazam. As production ramps up, we might expect a lot more set photos to find their way home giving us an inkling of the story. We still don’t know which Gods will enact their fury in the film. So, we may find out who the Three Sisters are working alongside to get their hands on the Shazam family.

  • Closer Look at FX’s ‘Y: THE LAST MAN’s Yorick Brown Released

Closer Look at FX’s ‘Y: THE LAST MAN’s Yorick Brown Released

Just a few days after getting an official premiere date for the Y: The Last Man adaptation, we now got our first look at the series lead, Yorick Brown. It was shared by series producer Eliza Clark to showcase a somewhat iconic shot taken straight from the comics. He is even holding his Ampersand’s, his pet monkey, carrier. When we find Yorick donning this look, at the beginning of the series, he’s on his way to Washington DC, looking for his mother, Representative Brown. He keeps his identity hidden since being the last representative of the male gender would be something that would draw a lot of attention to himself. A plan that, as most plans in post-apocalyptic times go, doesn’t really hold up for long.

Yorick’s true identity is rapidly revealed, in what proves as the catalyst for his globe-trotting adventures, looking for a cure that would guarantee a future for the human race. Moved by his own self-interest of traveling to Australia, to meet up with this girlfriend who was there conducting research when the plague hit, instead of going in search of a Boston geneticist who could study him and possibly discover the reasons behind his survival, Yorick must navigate a world where he is no longer seen as a person, but a means to an end.

Warcraft’s Ben Schnetzer is playing the titular character of Yorick with Diane Lane portraying his mother, Congresswoman Jennifer Brown, a member of the U.S. House of Representatives. The mainly female cast will also feature Ashley RomansDiana Bang, as well as Dredd‘s Olivia Thirlby. It will premiere on September 13th, 2021, on FX.

Upcoming ‘Blue Beetle’ Film Heading to HBO Max

Warner Brothers announced that it would be sending all of its major releases to HBO Max in 2021 back in December. They would also release in open theaters. This was immediately met with mixed emotions when many began to worry that this could hurt theaters even more than the pandemic already did. 2020 saw almost all of its releases delayed with some moving more than once due to the ongoing pandemic. Now Warner Brothers’ new model sees them focusing more on their streaming endeavor.

As the DC Universe begins to expand further and onward, HBO Max could be the universe’s biggest asset. In a recent article from the Los Angeles Times, Warner Bros. Chairman Toby Emmerich talked about their release strategy for 2021 and how they plan to release ten to twelve films in theaters and on HBO Max each. With the recent announcement of Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah as directors on the upcoming Batgirl film came the news that it would release exclusively on HBO Max. Now it seems the upcoming Blue Beetle film will be getting the same treatment and releasing exclusively on HBO Max,

Blue Beetle is set to be direct by Charm City Kings director Angel Manuel Soto and was written by Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer. The film will focus on Jaime Reyes, the third person to don the mantle of Blue Beetle and the first to wear the scarab. No release date or casting has been announced for the project.

  • ‘THE BOOK OF BOBA FETT’ Has Wrapped Filming

‘THE BOOK OF BOBA FETT’ Has Wrapped Filming

The first Mandalorian spin-off has officially wrapped filming. Geek icon Ming-Na Wen confirmed in a recent Instagram post that production on The Book of Boba Fett has been completed, meaning we’re closer than ever to getting the series fanboys have dreamed of since Return of the Jedi. The actress, who is set to reprise her role as bounty hunter Fennec Shand for the live-action series, shared the news alongside images of a comical wrap gift for the crew.

The series will also star Temuera Morrison, making his grand return as the titular Boba Fett after an explosive appearance in The Mandalorian’s second season. Executive producers on the show include longtime Star Wars creative Dave Filoni and Mandalorian director Robert Rodriguez. The spin-off is scheduled to release in December of this year and will be followed by an Ashoka series starring Rosario Dawson. If everything goes according to plan, the shows will eventually cross over with their mother project in a big Star Wars event.

Aside from this, not much is known about the plot of Boba Fett. The post-credits tag at the ending of Mandalorian’s second season saw Fett and Shand claiming Jabba the Hutt’s infamous palace as their own, hinting at a possible war for the underworld in Boba’s solo vehicle. Marvel Comics is currently publishing a War of the Bounty Hunters line that would coincide well with this concept. Either way, the Disney+ project has been billed as the “next chapter” in the Mandalorian story since it was announced at the end of last year. Hopefully, we’ll find out what that means sooner than later.

  • ‘Outer Banks’ Star Madelyn Cline Joins Netflix’s ‘Knives Out’ Sequel

‘Outer Banks’ Star Madelyn Cline Joins Netflix’s ‘Knives Out’ Sequel

The first Knives Out film caught the attention of audiences around the world when it assembled an all-star cast of talent for Rian Johnson’s mystery comedy film. The film’s cast included stars of old and new with Chris Evans, Ana De Armas, Don Johnson, Jamie Lee Curtis, Toni Collete, and Michael Shannon. Daniel Craig led the cast as detective extraordinaire, Benoit Blanc. A few weeks ago, Netflix purchased the franchise in a $400M+ deal that would ensure two more sequels. The first castings followed quickly on the project. Now, it seems that Outer Banks and Stranger Things star Madelyn Cline has joined the upcoming mystery thriller. It remains unknown who Cline will be playing. Of course, the plot continues to remain the biggest mystery now.

So far, it only seems like the story will find take place in Greece, as filming is planned there for the upcoming summer. The only thing we know is that Cline is joining an all-star cast that consists of Dave Bautista, Janelle Monae, Kathryn Hahn, Kate Hudson, Edward Norton, and Leslie Odom Jr. The film will be written and directed by Rian Johnson. He will produce the film alongside Ram Bergman. It is currently unknown if the franchise will stick to the “Knives” naming, as that was strongly connected to the iconic visual of the first film. • ‘Batwoman’: First Official Look at Camrus Johnson as Batwing

‘Batwoman’: First Official Look at Camrus Johnson as Batwing

Ever since the first season, Camrus Johnson‘s Luke Fox has been Batwoman’s Man in the Chair. He stepped into his father’s footsteps, who had a similar role for Bruce Wayne. The character has seen a dramatic shift this season and recent set photos confirmed that he’d be hopping out of his chair and straight into the action. We all theorized he’ll join his comic counterpart by donning the identity of Batwing. While it wasn’t officially confirmed, Writer Caroline Dries shared the first promo images of Johnson‘s Batwing suit that he’ll wear for the first time in the upcoming finale of Batwoman‘s second season, and finally, fight alongside Batwoman.

    https://twitter.com/carolinedries/status/1402325159185289217?s=20

The look is heavily inspired by the character’s first appearance as the hero in Batwing #19 after picking up the mantle from David Zavimbe following the hero’s retirement. Fox was quickly recruited by Batman to take over the role. In a statement to TvLine, Johnson explained how excited he was to be wearing the suit and being a role model for kids to look up to.

Honestly, it’s hard to explain how much it means to me to wear the Batwing suit and officially play my first superhero, The main reason I wanted to be in Batwoman was for this opportunity — to give kids like me another Black hero to look up to and relate to. It’s hard not to smile when I catch myself in the mirror with the bat symbol on my chest, and I’ll keep smiling through every fight scene, every awesome stunt, and every Gotham night where Batwing is finally in the field!

It’s definitely exciting to watch the Batfamily grow more and more. While we don’t have them all in one universe it’s great to finally see some of comics’ famous and inspirational heroes from the DC Universe brought to life. The second season finale of Batwoman is currently set to air on June 13th and will see the debut of Johnson as Batwing.

  • ‘SWEET TOOTH’’s Jim Mickley set to direct upcoming ‘GOD COUNTRY’ adaptation

‘SWEET TOOTH’’s Jim Mickley set to direct upcoming ‘GOD COUNTRY’ adaptation

Coming off the extremely well-received Netflix adaptation of Sweet ToothJim Mickle has been tapped to direct yet another comic adaptation: Donny Cates’ breakthrough indie hit God Country for Legendary Entertainment. Mickle, who directed four of the eight Sweet Tooth episodes out now, is moving back to directing feature films, with his last one being 2019’s In the Shadow of the Moon. Donny Cates will be writing the script, adapting his original work, with Lee Kramer, Jon Kramer, and Mickle producing.

Cates has since gone on to write for Marvel (Thanos, Silver Surfer, Doctor Strange, Guardians of the Galaxy, Venom, Thor) and has recently gone back to creator-owned comics to write a (sort of) sequel to some of his past independent hits, God Country included, in the Crossover series.

God Country was initially published by Image Comics back in 2017 to rave reviews. It tells the story of Emmet Quinlan, and an old man dealing with dementia who, to his son and grandaughter’s disbelief, manages to fight off supernatural creatures when wielding Valofax, an enchanted sword that grants him otherworldly powers. Set in Texas, Cates’ home state, God Country comes off as a wonderful tale of just how much someone is willing to take in order to both keep and create the memories that can make life truly special. There is still no additional information regarding cast and release dates for the project but we will make sure to keep you posted.

  • Dwayne Johnson Reveals DC’s ‘League of Super-Pets’ Cast

Dwayne Johnson Reveals DC’s ‘League of Super-Pets’ Cast

All the way back in 1962, Action Comics #293 introduced the League of Super-Pets. The lineup included Krypto the Super dog, Streaky the Super Cat, Beppo the Super Monkey, and Come the Super Horse. They didn’t last long as they were erased from the mainstream continuity in 1986. The team would go dormant in comics for some time, with characters briefly appearing in Krypto The Superdog animated series. Yet, they did not return to comics until 2017’s DC Rebirth. Now with an animated feature film in the works, it seems the team is ready for a comeback with Dwayne Johnson revealing the cast for the upcoming project.

Johnson took to Twitter to confirm a star-studded cast for the upcoming animated film in which he stars as Krypto the Superdog.  He confirmed that his long-time partner in crime, Kevin Hart, will voice Ace the Bathound. They will be joined by a star-studded cast, which includes Kate Mckinnon, John Krasinski, Diego Luna, Vannessa Byer, Natasha Lyonne, and Keanu Reeves. Their roles remain under wraps, but it would be pretty funny to see Krasinski voice Flexi the Plastic Bird for obvious reasons.

    https://twitter.com/therock/status/1402294591672360964?s=21

DC’s Legion of Super-Pets is currently set to release on May 20th, 2022, and will be written and directed by Jared Sturn alongside Sam Levine. The film is set to be produced by Johnson’s Seven Bucks Productions with Dany Garcia and Hiram Garcia. We also don’t know if any of the other DC heroes will appear alongside the super pets, or the focus remains purely on them. Hopefully, we’ll get more teases in the coming months to build up to next year’s release.

  • Latest ‘What If’ Merchandise Offers a Closer Look at Uatu the Watcher and the Guardians of the Multiverse

Latest ‘What If’ Merchandise Offers a Closer Look at Uatu the Watcher and the Guardians of the Multiverse

It always seems like Marvel Studios’ biggest enemy for leaking information is toys. What If was no exception to this rule, as our first look at various characters came through an early released poster featuring the now-titled Guardians of the Multiverse. Just recently, an image from LEGO found its way online revealing Tony Stark on Sakaar building what seems to be a Hulkbuster out of scrap metal. There even was another set, which names reveal the name of Steve Rogers’ mech that was teased throughout the first trailers.

Now, Walmart released some merchandise that offers some closer looks at the design of Uatu the Watcher and the Guardians of the Multiverse. It is interesting to note that Uatu is simply called The Watcher with an Avengers-inspired logo. It makes sense as it might be more recognizable for non-comic readers buying these coin purses or wallet covers.

The merchandise offers us our closest look at Uatu’s design which seems like the perfect combination of his comic design, which got featured briefly in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, and his voice actor Jeffrey Wright. Interestingly, Peggy Carter’s character is named Captain Carter rather than Captain Britain. She held the title in the leaked LEGO set. It might also just make the marketing easier as Party Thor will not go by that title. A few known members are missing, such as Gamora, Black Widow, and Killmonger. Zombie Captain America is also missing though leaked merchandise has featured him prominently. We might see more merchandise get released soon featuring the rest of the cast with hints of their potential storylines.
