Just recently, we got the reveal of Final Fantasy latest numbered entry. XVI is set to explore the game’s original fantasy setting moving away from its more futuristic development. We only got a brief trailer teasing the overarching plot and playstyle. Now, Square-Enix has revealed some details on the game’s setting and characters through an official website. Funny enough, the following image of this world was leaked a while back without any confirmation until this point.
The game will take place in the world of Valisthea, which is studded by so-called Mothercrystals. These crystals bless the inhabitants with aether, which is their source of magic. Of course, with great power came greed and the world finds itself in the middle of a war. At the heart of it, all are the Dominants. These are people that have the ability to summon the most powerful and deadly creatures, which are known as Eikons. These are this game’s version of the summons, which were teased in the trailer.
Our protagonist is Clive Rosfield, who was believed to be a Dominant, as he was the son of the Archduke of Rosaria. The Phoenix, however, ended up choosing his younger brother Joshua, which led him to dedicate his life to swordsmanship. He made it his mission to protect his younger brother. They were also raised alongside Jill Warrick, who was taking in as a ward by Rosaria after her homecountry in the Northern Territories have fallen. Their lifes are met by tragedy as a dark Eikon named Ifrit would set them all on a dangerous path. It also push Clive on a very dark path, which is teased in the official poster for the game, which includes a clearer picture of the Phoenix and Ifrit.
Production recently resumed on Stranger Things Season 4 in and around Atlanta and some interesting news has made it our way! The series has always been heavily inspired by 80’s films ranging from Fast Times at Ridgemont High to The Thing to Sixteen Candles. The brothers have also often expressed how much of the DNA of Stranger Things was inspired by legends like John Carpenter, Steven Spielberg, Stephen King and James Cameron among others. It looks like a pair of mid-80’s King and Cameron horror films may have exerted a heavy influence on Season 4.
The set of Season 4 is rich with Easter Eggs that point towards Cameron’s Alien franchise and Maximum Overdrive, a film written and directed by King based off one of his own short stories. As production has moved around Atlanta, fans have noticed that location signs have included Weyland and Mule as code names for the production. The Weyland reference isn’t quite as deep of a cut as Mule, but for those who aren’t familiar, here’s a little breakdown.
Weyland refers to the Weyland Corporation established in Cameron’s Alien franchise. It’s been heavily retconned as the franchise crossed over with Predator, but it was first seen as the Weyland-Yutani Corp in 1979’s Alien. In that future, Weyland-Yutani is one of the world’s mega corporations that has pushed human colonization of other worlds with the hidden agenda of acquiring Xenomorphs to be weaponized against their competitors.
As stated above, Mule is a little more of a deep cut. In 1986, King’s Maximum Overdrive, which he himself referred to as a “moron movie”, the Master of Horror toyed with the idea of what would happen to humans if the machines in the increasingly automated world we lived in, became sentient. Mysteriously “awakened” by a comet, sentient machines such as ATMs, vending machines and (most memorable to me) a semi with a Green Goblin face began to take out humankind. Key among the film’s main antagonists was a military vehicle, the M274 Mule (seen below), which is thankfully destroyed by the heroic Bill (played wonderfully by Emilio Estevez!).
While it’s no surprise to see the Alien franchise’s influence exerted once again (it’s been pretty much omnipresent over 3 seasons), it’s incredibly interesting to see what influence, if any, Maximum Overdrivewill exert on Season 4. The film’s message about our dependence on machines is a pretty common theme, but it could always be done again. Maybe Emilio Estevez will cameo? Season 2 gave us Ghostbusters and we know the series is moving through the mid-80s, so with Maximum Overdrive and Aliens both having been on screen in 1986, which seems like where Season 4 should fall on the Stranger Things timeline, maybe the kids are watching or discussing it in an episode. Whether thematically or directly, however, it seems King’s self-described “learning experience” and Cameron’s beloved sequel are a part of Season 4’s DNA.
Ahead of The Mandalorian’s season 2, we give quick introductions to characters that have yet to debut on a live-action Star Wars project, but that most likely will show up on the Disney+ hit series in the coming weeks.
After the events of Attack of the Clones, and seeing that Anakin Skywalker could benefit from having to train his very own Padawan, Master Yoda assigned a young Jedi, Ahsoka Tano (a Togruta from the planet Shili) to the then Jedi Knight. And so began their friendship, one rooted in mutual respect. Through the years Ahsoka revealed herself to be an invaluable member of the Republic army, working beside Anakin, gaining the trust of the clones she served with, especially one Captain Rex. Later on, she was thought to be responsible for an explosion at the Jedi Temple on Coruscant, and even though Anakin fought to prove her innocence, she became so disillusioned by the Jedi’s behavior through the entire process that she decided to leave the Order.
During the events of Revenge of the Sith, and as she was about to bring Darth Maul in custody into Coruscant, Palpatine executes Order 66 making the clone army she was with, turn on her. She manages to flee with the help of Captain Rex, even if that meant that Maul had to be released to create a diversion that would allow for their successful escape.
After the rise of Emperor Palpatine, she came in contact with the crew of The Ghost, trying to guide them through their battles against the Empire all while trying to keep her identity a secret. After revealing herself, she becomes even more involved with Ezra, Kanan, Hera, Sabine, Zeb, and Chopper’s journey as they fight the increasingly powerful forces of the Empire.
After being saved by Ezra as she was about to die at the hands of her former Master, now Darth Vader, she vows to come for him at a time of need. So being, after Ezra disappears while fighting Grand Admiral Thrawn in the Rebels finale, Ahsoka joins Sabine sometime after the Battle of Endor, and both launch a search for their missing friend.
Just yesterday, we got the massive reveal that Oscar Isaac was in talks for the titular role of Moon Knight. Marvel Studios’ upcoming Disney+ series was the last to be announced, so it still has some time before it is released but that isn’t stopping the studio. According to Deadline, they have added Egyptian filmmaker Mohamed Diab to direct the series. As such, he will be joining showrunner Jeremy Slater. Diab is well-known for his film Eshtebak, or Clash, which got him into the selection for the 2016 Cannes Film Festival. He also directed various Egyptian franchises El Gezeira and Cairo 678. As Deadline points out, these were some of the highest-grossing films from the Arabic and Egyptian filmmaking market.
His filmography and Egyptian heritage will help solidify Moon Knights’ deep connections to Khonshu. Marc Spector is a mercenary with a variety of alter egos. His mind is damaged, as he is also haunted by an Egyptian God known as Khonshu. He became its conduit after being left for dead by Raoul Bushman, his former employer. He was Marvel’s answer to Batman before growing into his own twisted take on a masked vigilante.
Mohamed Diab will surely lend his very unique voice to make this series stand-out among the upcoming Disney+ slate. It will be interesting to see how much time we spend in Egypt and if they will focus more on his personality disorder before jumping into the mythology aspect. Also, will his costume be closer to that of his original run or could we see the latest Mr. Knight persona being adapted as well? Whatever direction they may go, this is certainly going to be an exciting addition.
Now, this is an interesting way to reveal a major character in a game. Spider-Man: Miles Morales has teased its primary antagonist in the first gameplay trailer a while back. We got our first look at a very unique interpretation of the Tinkerer, who is in the middle of a gang war with Roxxon. Miles finds himself in the middle of the battle trying to keep people safe. We all wondered who else would be added with a short tease of Rhino as the first boss battle followed the initial announcement. Now, it looks like one more major villain will be added to the game, as they offered us our first look at the Prowler in the latest variant cover for Amazing Spider-Man #55.
Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse introduced many to the iconic villain, who has deep ties to Miles’ family. Originally, the character made his debut back in 1969. Many held the title but none were as iconic as Miles’ own uncle, Aaron Davis. His design already teases that he may have gotten his hands on the equipment through Tinkerer. This is a callback to the comics, where he did the same thing in the Ultimate universe. Spider-Man: Miles Morales seems to be playing around a lot with its colors. Tinkerer stands out with her purples and Prowler will be utilizing green. It is interesting to note that purple was associated witht he Prowler in the past, as even his original Ultimate costume was a purple version of Deadpool’s. He also seems to have green-glowing claws similar to that of Black Panther. Sadly, his iconic cape isn’t included from the animated film but hopefully we will find out his role in the story soon, as we are only a few weeks away from the games’ release.
Power Rangers has been seeing a resurgence as of late. Not too long ago, Hasbro hired Jonathan Entwistle to supervise the franchise over multiple media platforms. As such, it gives credit to the rumor that Hasbro, the new owner of the franchise, has ended ties with Toei. We still have no official confirmation, as one more season to be released on Nickoledoen that is based on the Super Sentai series. The upcoming film will be the third time the iconic teenagers with an attitude appear on the silver screen. This release will also reboot the 2017 version that is disappointed at the Box Office. Now, they are moving forward with the new film and, according to Deadline, has closed a deal with Bryan Edward Hill to pen the script.
Hill has quite the history in the industry. Just recently was behind the adaptation of Studio 8’s Black, and he is the co-producer of DC’s Titans show. He was also a staff writer on Ash vs Evil Dead, which is a personal favorite. He also worked on a variety of comics, such as Killmonger, American Carnage, and Detective Comics to name a few. The earliest rumors pointed to the show to include some time travel elements, so it will be interesting to see if that remains as the script develops. We also know that Entwistle will supervise TV and film, so we might see some potential spin-offs being in the works. So, there is a good chance that Hill might return for future projects. It certainly is a project to keep an eye on.
“People need to believe…and nowadays…they’ll believe anything.”
It’s that time of year again. The third installment of the MCUSpider-Man franchise has officially undergone production. People have started to grow anxious, waiting for any sort of detail they can get their hands on. But with so many rumors, theories, and speculation floating around, it’s hard for people to tell the difference between what’s real, what’s rumored, and what’s just plainly false. So I’ll be introducing a new series for Murphy’s Multiverse I’ll call “Grounding.”
Grounding Techniques are more commonly used to help a person alleviate negative symptoms, usually during panic attacks, PTSD flashbacks, overthinking symptoms. It helps the person focus on what is happening around them physically with something they can feel with one of their 5 senses, therefore knowing it’s real. I’ve decided to use the same principle but to help us understand what we TRULY know about a certain production and discern what’s been confirmed & what’s pure speculation.
real: SPIDER-MAN 3 PICKS UP AFTER THE EVENTS OF FAR FROM HOME
The last time we saw Peter Parker was during the post-credit scene of Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019).Spider-Man was framed for the murder of Quentin Beck aka Mysterio and his identity was exposed to the entire world, before leaving us with a massive cliffhanger that has had fans expecting more. It is more likely than not that this plot point will be addressed in the upcoming Spider-Man sequel and we’ll know the immediate reactions of the people around him and the world. Will he be branded a murderer? Will people defend the friendly-neighborhood web-slinger? Only time will tell.
rumor: SPIDER-MAN 3 will follow a Spider-Verse storyline.
Spider-Verse fanart by @spdrmnkyxxiii
This is perhaps the biggest rumor floating around social media and all news sites. Ever since Jamie Foxx’s casting in the film as Electro and his deleted Instagram post teasing a possible Multiverse storyline, fans of the franchise and many sites have run rampant, speculating the idea that Spider-Man 3 will perhaps become a Spider-Verse film that many fans have been clamoring for Marvel/Sony to do. All fans are waiting for is the headline that reads:
BUT WAIT! LET’S NOT GET OUR HOPES UP JUST YET.
The idea of this movie being a Spider-Verse film is a concept that has pretty much been teased ever since the comic event debuted back in 2014 and has even been explored in Spider-Man media like Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions and the Animated Series long before the comic run. And while the idea of Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield returning to the franchise could make Spider-Man 3 an event that could potentially rival that of Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, we cannot get ahead of ourselves with something that isn’t tangible just yet. Garfield is currently in NYC, filming the upcoming musical film; “Tick, Tick…Boom.”, and Maguire hasn’t necessarily been seen that much outside of his home in California, so, let’s just keep ourselves grounded and understand that there has been no confirmation that either Maguire or Garfield have signed on to this project.
real: Doctor Strange will appear in Spider-Man 3
The Sorceror Supreme and the Master of the Mystic Arts has been confirmed to appear in the third installation of the MCU Spider-Man franchise. His purpose? “Putting [Benedict] Cumberbatch in the mentor role that was previously occupied by Robert Downey Jr., who played Tony Stark/Iron Man in Spider-Man: Homecoming, and by Samuel L. Jackson in Spider-Man: Far From Home, the latter reprising Nick Fury”, as reported by the Hollywood Reporter, who broke the news 3 weeks ago. While his upcoming sequel has to do with the Multiverse and there have been rumors that he might appear in WandaVision (2020), that’s all it is. A rumor. No one knows for sure if he will be the one who will guide Peter through this multiverse business or if he will just show up for a small cameo. Speaking of rumors…
Rumor: Charlie Cox’s Daredevil will appear in Spider-Man 3 as Spider-Man’s lawyer
Now listen, I love Charlie Cox. I loved him as Daredevil and as Matt Murdock in his Netflix series. But there have been 0 confirmations that Matt Murdock could appear in this film. People have been speculating it and including it in their theories because if Spider-Man will be judged and tried in court for murder, he would need legal representation. And of course, people would immediately think of Matt Murdock as the first pick for Spider-Man’s lawyer. But even if the lawyer thing was true, we need to understand that the rights to Daredevil do not come back to Marvel until December of this year, and Spider-Man 3 has already started production. There are still chances that he could show up. After all, Spider-Man didn’t join Captain America: Civil War (2016) until very later on in production. So we’ll have to wait and see.
Real: Jamie Foxx’s Electro will appear in Spider-Man 3
Perhaps the casting that arose the most questions was Jamie Foxx being cast once again as Max Dillon aka Electro, to reprise the role in the upcoming Spider-Man 3 sequel. He has even confirmed in a deleted Instagram post that he will not be blue in this one, as well as teasing a possible Multiverse storyline in this film, which has not been confirmed at all. It is very important to note however that this is the first time Marvel Studios has reused a villain that has already existed in a previous iteration of a Spider-Man film. They had tried to keep themselves from using the same characters in previous films by using the likes of Vulture, Mysterio, The Tinkerer, Aaron Davis, Shocker, and more in the previous 2 Spidey films, so casting Electro and let alone Foxx is something that’s really interesting to think about.
rumor: Kraven The Hunter, Venom & others can appear in Spider-Man 3
Spider-Man’s rogue gallery is something definitely worthy of being mentioned as having some of the most recognizable villains in all of comics lore. When people saw the post-credit scene of Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019) where Peter’s identity was exposed to the world and was accused of being a murderer, people assumed that Peter’s story would take a turn for our hero to go “on-the-run”. It is a very popular trope in Spider-Man comics and many people turned to the idea of Kraven the Hunter being the next villain in this film, taking on the role of a bounty hunter who would take on the hunt for Spider-Man. While the idea is certainly possible and something I myself have theorized, in the end, we need to understand that this is all entirely speculative. However, it is important to note that it is a rumor with a basis that could potentially become true. Unlike the rumor where Tom Hardy will cameo as Eddie Brock in this film. That’s just pure speculation.
real: most of the supporting cast from the previous MCU Spider-Man films will return.
The Hollywood Reporter had also mentioned in their Electro report that “most of the supporting cast from the previous movies are expected to be on the call sheet when cameras roll in Atlanta this fall.” If this film picks up right after the events of Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019), chances are we going to see the likes of MJ, Ned Leeds, Flash Thompson, Betty Brant, Aunt May, and Happy Hogan return as the supporting cast for this film, since all of these actors had active supporting roles in both films. And we still need answers to so many questions that the Far From Home cliffhanger left us. Will Ned be slightly skinnier in this film since Jacob Batalon has been seen working out and losing weight? How will MJ react to the news of Peter being a murderer? How will Flash react to the news of Peter Parker being Spider-Man? Will Betty Brant report it all for the Midtown High news? ARE AUNT MAY AND HAPPY DATING OR NOT? Speaking of supporting casts…
rumor: most of the supporting cast from the previous Spider-Man films can return
Now, of course, with the idea of Spider-Man 3 being a Spider-Verse film, people have run rampant with the idea of who from the supporting casts of the other Spider-Man films could potentially return for this film. Just like the Andrew and Tobey news, we all need to take it slow and understand that this is all rumored and that there have been no official confirmations that any of these actors could return.
REAL: SPIDER-MAN 3 IS SCHEDULED TO PREMIERE ON DECEMBER 17, 2021.
RUMOR: SPIDER-MAN 3 WILL PREMIERE ON DECEMBER 17, 2021.
Assassin’s Creed is one of those gaming franchises that are perfect for a live-action adaptation. We finally got the first attempt in 2016, which featured Michael Fassbender in the titular role. Sadly, while the film was a step-up of previous video game adaptations, it still only managed to get an 18% on Rotten Tomatoes with a mixed audience score of 43%. It seemed like that would be it for any future adaptations of the iconic Ubisoft franchise for the time being. Seems like they weren’t done yet, as Netflix has announced that they are developing a brand new series that wishes to re-explore the history of the Assassins. Jason Altman, Head of Ubisoft Film and Television gave the following statement.
or more than 10 years, millions of fans around the world have helped shape the Assassin’s Creed brand into an iconic franchise. We’re thrilled to create an Assassin’s Creed series with Netflix and we look forward to developing the next saga in the Assassin’s Creed universe.
Netflix is known for greenlighting projects early on before they even have a creative team ready. Just recently, they did the same thing with their new show focused on the iconic Conan the Barbarian franchise. This time it is no different as Netflix is still searching for a showrunner. As such, it is uncertain how long it would take before the show would enter production. Netflix’s Peter Friedlander also gave the following statement.
We’re excited to partner with Ubisoft and bring to life the rich, multilayered storytelling that Assassin’s Creed is beloved for. From its breathtaking historical worlds and massive global appeal as one of the best-selling video game franchises of all time, we are committed to carefully crafting epic and thrilling entertainment based on this distinct IP and provide a deeper dive for fans and our members around the world to enjoy.
It also looks like an official logo to mark the new cooperation was released. This reveal will also be the start of larger cooperation that will include animated and anime series, similar to their approach with The Witcher.
It also will be exciting to see how they explore the different eras. The show concept could lend itself to each season focusing on a unique timeline to further develop the plot. Plus, this would allow Netflix to keep the show running for multiple seasons, as each one would feel fresh and new. It won’t be cheap to constantly switch between new sets, costumes, and much more so we’ll see what direction they take.
It looks like the DC show Stargirl finally found its core villains for the second season. Executive producer Geoff Johns already teased the addition of Eclipso and The Shade back in New York Comic-Con. Now, Deadline revealed that Nick Tarabay is playing Eclipso. Also, Jonathan Cake was cast as the Shade. They also teased that Ysa Paenarejo will join in an undisclosed role of a known DC character. Tarabay‘s Eclipso will be the main antagonist, who will clash with the Justice Society of America in the upcoming season. He was the life essence trapped in the blue diamond, which we briefly saw in the hands of the Injustice Society of America. He has the power to corrupt people based on their darkest and most impure thoughts. Interesting to note, the character of Eclipso is also rumored to appear in Black Adam.
The Shade is an immortal, who can control shadows. He is stuck in his eloquent ways from the 19th Century, who is described as quite witty. It is uncertain what exactly his role will be. If we go by Johns‘ quote, he called him the most powerful and unpredictable character the JSA will have to face. It will be interesting to see what Cake brings to the role. He has a background in Grey’s Anatomy, SEAL Team, and The Affair. Tarabay has some experience with DC shows, as he portrayed Captain Boomerang on Arrow. He also voices characters in video games such as The Butcher in last year’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. Yves Penarejo just recently appeared in Netflix’s Project MC2. These are some great additions for CW’s latest superhero show, which will continue the adventures of young Courtney Whitmore and the JSA.
It still was quite shocking when Ruby Rose decided to leave Batwoman after only one season. The actress decided her time on the show had come to an end, which led to the casting of our new Batwoman, Javicia Leslie. With production on the shows, second season recently picking up in Vancouver, set photos began to leak of Leslie‘s Ryan Wilder sporting Rose‘s original Batsuit. Yet, we suddenly had another set photo tease what might potentially be a new Batsuit for the next generation of heroes. It also included a new look at the show’s version of the Batmobile. Now, we got an official look at the suit we got teased in the blurry behind-the-scenes images.
The suit hasn’t been altered all that much with Wilder shedding the red wig that Kate had sewn into her cowl as a means for disguising herself. Leslie lets her natural hair flow with a bit of a red dye job towards the bottom. It also includes more red, as the new suit adds a set of red bracers to her forearms. It even looks like they raised the collar around her neck as a pseudo chin strap. While the changes seem minor, they allow Leslie to stand out and add her own flourishes to the role. We haven’t met her character, Ryan Wilder, in the show as of now, but she is set to make her comic book debut in Batgirl #50 set for release this week. It will be exciting to see how they will introduce her in the upcoming season, and which episode will showcase the new suit.
