    Krysten Ritter Would Love to Join the MCU as Jessica Jones

    There has been much anticipation with the possible return of the Marvel Netflix characters. In December, we broke the news that Charlie Cox would return in Spider-Man: No Way Home in a limited capacity. It opened up the floodgates for others to potentially do the same. It didn’t take long for the next report to follow, as there were rumors that Jessica Jones‘ Krysten Ritter might appear in next year’s She–Hulk.

    Well, if Marvel Studios hopes to introduce the character of Jessica Jones into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it seems like Ritter would certainly be down to join any project. She shared her enthusiasm to return to the character in an interview with ScreenRant and shared her excitement about potentially returning as the character at some point if she was offered by Marvel Studios.

    I would absolutely just die to play Jessica again. I had the best time doing it and I just love her so much. I’m so proud of that character. Not only because it was like a great role and she’s such a bad-ass, but that character has really resonated with people in a way that I don’t know who else has. Really, really resonated with women and girls, trauma survivors. It’s just so, so big and such a thing I’m so grateful to have been a part of. So if there’s ever an opportunity for me to put on those boots, I will be there in a flash.

    The actress is currently busy advertising Netflix’s Nightbooks horror film. She-Hulk wrapped production some time ago and if she’ll appear, she may have already filmed a few scenes. There’s also the question of what the future has in store for the character if she does end up joining. Diseny+ may become the new home for street-level heroes and we might hopefully get an idea as the franchise expands.

    Marvel Zombies Might Have a Live-Action Future in the MCU Beyond ‘WHAT IF…?’

    The last episod eof What If..? introduced the world to the first incarnations of zombies within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. They’ve actually been a mainstay in the comics since their debut in the Ultimate Fantastic Four run before going on to get their own series. It looks like Marvel Studios might have some plans for the zombified Avengers, as Mark Millar hinted at some live-action plans potentially being in the works in his latest newsletter.     The episode introducing the zombified versions of our favorite heroes was quite the talk of the town ever since it was first teased. It’s a concept that would deserve more exploration and with the horror theme, they’d make for a perfect enemy for our favorite Sorcerer Supreme to face in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

    There is also the possibility to reintroduce the concept in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. The virus spreads through Janet van Dyne in the Quantum Realm, which exists outside of time and the multiverse. Perhaps the crew’s return to face Kang the Conqueror might unleash the virus in another unsuspecting universe. It’s would also be curious to see if this project ends up as an R-rated one, or they go with the more muted PG-13 friendly designs of the animated series. If they truly make a return, it’s going to be an exciting one as Marvel Studios continues to explore new avenues with their franchise.

    ‘Onyx Equinox’ and ‘Infinity Train’s Sofia Alexander Joins Marvel Studios

    Marvel Studios is continuing to expand their animation team, as the creator of Crunchyroll’s Onyx Equinox, Sofia Alexander, has joined the famous Disney subsidiary. She took to Twitter to announce her joining the ever-expanding team, as the production studio aims to grow its animation team. It’s a perfect time, as we know they want to go beyond just the currently airing What If…? series. She has quite a diverse portfolio which includes the critically acclaimed Infinity Train, Netflix’s Invader ZIM: Enter the Florpus film and even Cartoon Network’s The Powerpuff Girls reboot. She doesn’t go into detail about what role she’ll have, but it’s certainly a sign they’re already underway on their next animated project.

    Alexander‘s history is quite diverse with different animation styles. We still don’t know a lot about how Marvel Studios aim to expand. We did get the hint that I Am Groot will explore a unique animation style, which adds some hope they won’t restrict to the one utilized in What If..?. There’s also the question if they’ll continue to keep these series in canon or head out into the multiverse to explore unrelated storylines. HBO Max is exploring the younger demographic with their Batman-inspired Batwheels project and we could see Marvel Studios attempt something similar. Who knows if we’ll see different projects for various target audiences that’ll introduce a younger generation into the MCU.

    Abubakr Ali Headlining Netflix’s New Dark Horse Comic Adaptation ‘Grendel’

    Netflix continues its reign over adaptations, as they just unveiled a series order for Grendel. The Dark Horse Comic will explore the story of Hunter Rose who seeks vengeance in New York’s criminal underworld. Yet, the further down the rabbit hole he goes, he realizes the opportunity of a lifetime. Katy Keene‘s Abubakr Ali will take on the titular role and is the first male Arab Muslim to lead a comic book adaptation. Resident Evil and Supernatural‘s Andrew Dabb will act as showrunner for the series.

    He’s not the only one cast, as he’ll be joined by Jaime Ray Newman, Julian Black Antelope, Madeline Zima, Kevin Corrigan, Emma Ho, Erik Palladino, Britany Allen, and Andy Mientus. The creator of the original comic, Matt Wagner, will executive produce the series together with Dark Horse Entertainment’s Mike Richardson, Keith Goldberg, and Chris Tongue. He had the following to share on the adaptation:

    I couldn’t be more thrilled about the Grendel saga, one of the longest-running independent comics series, finally being translated into live-action for the screen. Under the sharp guidance of showrunner Andrew Dabb, our incredible creative team, sure-to-be stellar cast and Dark Horse Entertainment have teamed with Netflix to produce this provocative adaptation that will bring my characters and concepts to an all new audience and yet still provide excitement and surprises for die-hard fans. I’m especially excited to see Abubakr Ali bring the character of Grendel/Hunter Rose to life — he has the charisma, style and vital edginess that I’ve been envisioning in the role for years.

    Netflix has already produced a variety of projects together with Dark Horse. The Umbrella Academy is probably the most well-known project. They also worked on Jonas Åkerlund‘s Polar and are currently preparing for the release of their animated series Samurai Rabbit: The Usagi Chronicles.

    ‘SHE-HULK’: Tim Roth Shares Why He Joined the Disney+ Series and Working With Mark Ruffalo

    Disney+ continues to expand its Marvel Studios roster throughout the year, as we got our first look at the upcoming Hawkeye series. While it’ll end the year, we know it’s just the beginning of many more projects heading our way. One highlight is the adaptation of She-Hulk, which will be the first Hulk-centric project since 2008’s The Incredible Hulk. Bruce Banner will pass on the spotlight to his cousin Jennifer Walters, but when Kevin Feige announced Tim Roth‘s return as Abomination, it felt like the MCU is continuing to include more callbacks.

    Roth has been quite busy since working on projects like Twin Peaks, The Hateful Eight, Hardcore Henry, and spearheaded the Lie to Me TV series. In an interview for the upcoming film Sundown, the actor also opened up about the challenges he had returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe and how Mark Ruffalo helped him find his groove working on the Disney+ series. He also confirms that Marvel Studios approached him to reprise the role.

    I did The Incredible Hulk [playing Emil Blonsky, aka Abomination] years ago, just because I thought my kids would be embarrassed by it. I did it for them and I really enjoyed making it. So when they came to me and said: “We’re adapting the She-Hulk thing. Can you come back as that character again?” I was like, sure. It should be fun. I was very surprised though because it was difficult at first. It was only when Mark Ruffalo came in to shoot his stuff [reprising his role as Bruce Banner] that I went: “Oh, that’s how you do it! With a sense of humor!

    Tim Roth

    It’s crazy to think that at the time, Edward Norton was the Hulk and it’s the actor’s first time working with Ruffalo. Abomination had a minor role during Shang-Chi and the Legends of the Ten Rings, where Roth did some of the voice work for the character. So, the Diseny+ series might be his first time having to also play the larger-than-life beast. Ruffalo took on motion capturing for the Hulk since he took on the role of Banner in 2012’s Avengers. He even got help from Andy Serkis on Avengers: Age of Ultron. Here’s hoping that the Marvel Studios’ Assembled documentary series offers some insight into their work together.

    ‘MORTAL KOMBAT’ Sequels In Development

    Warner Bros. has challenged 2021 with the most daring strategy. They’ve established that every film would release simultaneously on their new streaming service HBO Max. Of course, it ended up cutting into the film’s box office performance but still kept some hope we’ll see future sequels. Mortal Kombat even managed to keep the top spot of most-viewed release and it seems they’re already working on various spin-offs as a result of its success.

    The reveal is hidden in a piece by Variety where Dune director Denis Villeneuve discusses his trust that this release strategy won’t stop him from developing a sequel to his upcoming release. In it, they also reveal that an insider heard that sequels on various Mortal Kombat characters are in some form of development. It seems they’re planning on creating a universe that explores the many realms within the MK universe.

    The first film tried to change up the rules of the gaming franchise, as it tries to explain how human characters have special abilities. We also never got to witness the titular tournament, which seems likely what various spin-offs might build up towards. The ending teased the appearance of Johnny Cage, who may get his own film as he’s become the mainstay throughout the franchise.

    Of course, there’s the question if we continue exploring Cole’s story, or they might shift focus moving forward. He was a newly introduced character whose ties to Scorpion made him the main protagonist. Yet, his literal plot armor helped him survive the first onslaught and who knows if the death of Sub-Zero might lure in his brother’s wrath.

    ‘THE BATMAN’ Spin-Off Focused on Penguin In Development for HBO MAX

    It looks like The Batman might continue to expand, as Deadline has unveiled an HBO Max series is in early development to explore the story of one of his iconic villains, the Penguin. Dylan Clark and Matt Reeves are acting as executive producers with their 6th and Idaho Dylan Clark Productions alongside Warner Bros. Television and DC Entertainment. The plan seems to give Oswald Cobblepot a Scarface storyline that explores his rise to the iconic mob boss. Colin Farrell will play him in the upcoming film, but there’s no word he’ll also play it in the series.

    It’s the second series that takes place in this universe. It was originally going to explore the corrupted Gotham PD during Batman’s first year. Reports in august hinted at the spin-off getting a new direction and will explore Arkham Asylum in some way. It’s mostly hinted at due to the new working title rumored to be Arkham as it finally enters production.

    It’ll be interesting to see if other characters get spin-offs moving forward, as The Batman will build up an extensive universe around the character’s rogue’s gallery. Exploring the life of a Falcone or Maroni family member with the mysterious Bat luring over their heads would make for a compelling drama. They could even introduce more complex stories of villains before they face the bat in a future film. Reeves remains heavily involved with these projects and it’ll be interesting to see how it continues to grow in the future.

    Exploring When the Next Young Avengers Members May Appear in the MCU

    The trailer has finally arrived for Hawkeye. It introduces the world to Hailee Steinfeld‘s Kate Bishop. Not only an important character in the role of Clint Barton and the Avengers but a very prominent member of the Young Avengers. We’ve noticed a variety of young heroes popping out throughout the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s fourth phase and it seems like we might get a Young Avengers adaptation at some point. Yet, there are still three prominent members that haven’t made their debut yet. So, it’s time to explore when we can expect the missing members of the team.

    Miss America

    Who Is Marvel's America Chavez?

    Now, this is a rather easy one to pinpoint, as we got the confirmation that Xochitl Gomez will play America Chavez in next year’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. We still have no idea what direction they are taking with the character, but her presence in a multiversal story stays true to her comic origins. She was raised by her mothers in a dimension known as the Utopian Parallel. After a great tragedy, she ends up traveling from one reality to another before embracing her heroic nature.

    It’s still unsure how she fits into the story. There might be a connection between how she ends up working alongside Strange and the rumored appearance of Shuma-Gorath. We also have Wanda’s unknown role on top of it all. Perhaps her home dimension is the key to ending the madness that rages across the multiverse. At the end of the story, she may end up in the mainline dimension and meets up with some of the already introduced members, as they potentially face a new challenge ahead.

    Hulkling

    Who Are the Young Avengers: HULKLING

    So, here’ the first of the three Young Avengers that wasn’t hinted at in any capacity. Theodore Altman is half-Kree and half-Skrull. He was born as the love child of Mar-Vell and the Skrull princess Anelle, who had a brief affair. As a result, he was raised on Earth due to the fear of what her kind would do to him knowing he is a half-breed. Growing up, he learns fast of his shapeshifting abilities and ended up drafted by Vision in the Avengers Fail-Safe Program a.k.a. the Young Avengers.

    His Skrull and Kree background makes him eligible for two specific projects. Either we’ll get introduced to the character in the Disney+ Secret Invasions series or the Captain Marvel sequel, The Marvels. We got introduced to a gender-flipped version of Mar-Vell that was protecting refugees from the Skrull race. There wasn’t any hint of her having potentially brought a child to the world, but there’s a curious gap in history that has yet to get explored before her death at the hands of Yon-Rogg.

    Iron Lad

    Unlike the previous characters, there’s a strange absence of Iron Lad. We did get introduced to his multiversal parallels, The One Who Remains and Kang the Conqueror. In the comics, a young Nathaniel Richards is abducted by an older version of himself. Terrified of the vision that shows the monster he would become, he swears to avoid his fate and arms his body with a bio-metal suit. As his name implies, the teenage hero is inspired by Iron Man’s iconic design. So, it would make sense that he’d potentially appear in Armor Wars. Yet, the Marvel Cinematic Universe might curiously twist his origin story.

    There’s a chance we might not even see Iron Lad in the MCU but rather have another character take his place. Marvel Studios is working on an Ironheart series eyeing a production start next year. The only thing she and Iron Lad have in common lies in their inspiration. They both end up building high-tech armors inspired by Tony Stark that could even surpass his work. As we learn that Kang is strongly connected to time and the multiverse, she may take his role in the original story as she faces the fact of what her existence would create. Of course, they could also still introduce Richards as a fellow MIT student. Still, her prominent role in the MCU’s future might create an interesting twist on the original.

    ‘MOON KNIGHT’s Ethan Hawke Voicing Batman in ‘BATWHEELS’ Animated Series

    It’s been almost a year since we’ve first heard of Cartoon Network and HBO Max’s Batmobile cartoon Batwheels. The series is aimed at preschoolers and marks DC’s first foray into the market. Even with its younger demographic, the series has nabbed quite the name as Moon Knight and Before Sunset‘s Ethan Hawke joined the project to voice Batman. He’ll be one of three human characters, which also includes Duke Thomas and Cassandra Cain. It will explore the world from the perspective of five anthropomorphic vehicles from the bat family and the sentient Bat-computer. Here’s also a first look at the three human characters:

    He’s joining the voice cast, as Cobra Kai‘s Jacob Bertrand will voice the series’ main protagonist, as the name suggests, Batmobile named Bam. Here’s the official description:

    Having just been created by the Batcomputer, our heroes are essentially kids with little to no life experience. Led by Bam (The Batmobile), the Batwheels – Bibi (The Batgirl Cycle), Redbird (Robin’s Sports Car), The Batwing and Buff (The Bat Truck) – must navigate the growing pains of being a newly formed super team as well as the growing pains that come with just being a kid. This relatable and aspirational series will follow the journey of this dynamic team as they thrill and entertain with their heroic adventures as well as demonstrate to kids the value of self-confidence, friendship and teamwork.

    It sounds like a great series for young DC fans getting into the franchise. It’s uncertain what role the human characters will have and how much one can expect of Ethan Hawke. His inclusion is a great way to show that actors of any caliber can also do some work for a younger audience to enjoy. It may introduce a young mind to the world of Batman and set them on a journey to uncover their new favorite superhero.

    First Look at ‘PEACEMAKER’s New Team

    Many fans are ecstatic to see John Cena’s return to the DCEU in Peacemaker, a series that’ll continue the man on a quest for peace following the events of The Suicide Squad. Many thought Peacemaker’s fate was sealed upon a fatal gunshot wound from Bloodsport to the throat alongside the debris of Jotunheim. It seemingly ended any possibility of his return. The end credits of the film tell a different story, with Christopher Smith pulled from the rubble and now tasked with saving the world from who knows what.

    The series is set to debut in January 2022 exclusively on HBO Max, and while no exact date has been set for its debut, we’re going to be getting our first real good look at the series just next month at DC Fandome. To tide us over until then, Entertainment Weekly has released a new still featuring Peacemaker alongside returning stars Steve Agee and Jennifer Holland alongside some new faces.

    For those who may have missed the post credit scene for The Suicide Squad. We learn that Amanda Waller has reassigned John Economos and Emilia Harcourt to Peacemaker as punishment for knocking her out and helping Task Force X kill Starro, which led to the saving of Corto Maltese. Joining the team is Freddie Stroma as Vigilante, Chukwudi Iwuji as Clemson Murn, and Danielle Brooks as Leota Adebayo. It’ll be interesting to see how the events in Corto Maltese and the murder of Colonel Rick Flag may affect Smith’s second lease on life.
