  • First ‘SHAZAM: FURY OF THE GODS’ Set Photos Reveal Zachary Levi’s New Suit

First ‘SHAZAM: FURY OF THE GODS’ Set Photos Reveal Zachary Levi’s New Suit

It’s always a great moment when a new film or TV project enters production. Not only does it bring us one step closer to its release, but there is also the chance that set photos to find their way online. Luckily, it seems the tradition continues as the first look at Zachary Levi on the set of Shazam: Fury of the Gods has already been released. It offers our first new look at the actor in his superhero suit. So far, the images only include our first look at the actor.

We are not allowed to share the images, but you can find them on JustJared.com by clicking here.

Overall, the suit sticks to its red and gold aesthetic. Of course, the cape is missing but you can clearly see the buttons that normally hold it, which confirms it is added through CG later on. However, there are some interesting differences as his golden bracelets include more detail with a red finishing. Even his bolt seems to be slightly smaller than before. New red lines are coming out of the lightning bolt that connects to his shoulder.

Now, they may change some aspects of the suit through CG work once production ends but it does offer a great look. It is a tradition that each new installment of a superhero film also upgrades the outfit. It’ll be interesting to see if they give an in-universe explanation for the new design, as Billy Batson transforms into the hero through the magic word Shazam. Perhaps he gets a power upgrade at one point in the film.

  • FX’s ‘American Horror Story: Double Feature’ Set to Premiere in August

FX’s ‘American Horror Story: Double Feature’ Set to Premiere in August

The last time we visited the world of American Horror Story, we found ourselves transported back to the 1980s. We got a new take on the slasher genre that flipped many notable tropes on their head in a throwback of a season. Since then, the series has been on a bit of hiatus due to the ongoing pandemic that caused filming to be drastically delayed. With this delay, the show decided it was time to try something new with the upcoming theme. “Double Feature” will revolve around two separate and shorter storylines that take place in one season. We’ve yet to learn just what these stories will entail, but we won’t have to wait too much longer to figure that out.

Just a day after series creator Ryan Murphy confirmed a July release for the upcoming AHS Spin-off, FX has confirmed that the upcoming tenth season of American Horror Story will premiere on Wednesday, August 25th. One season will focus on the sea and the other will be by the sand. Set photos have teased a quaint seaside town for the first story but have not given much away as to what’s going on. The reveal for the release date came from FX’s official Twitter channel.

The second storyline is a bit more of a mystery right now. The first tease led many fans to speculate that it could have something to do with Aliens, one of the show’s most interesting loose ends following Asylums’ confirmation of their existence. The whole idea of it being set around “sand” has people believing it could even take place in a desert. There is a noticeable one near Area 51. While nothing has been confirmed, time will tell just what Murphy has in store for us this time around.

  • EXCLUSIVE: First Details on Rachel Zegler’s Character in ‘SHAZAM: FURY OF THE GODS’

EXCLUSIVE: First Details on Rachel Zegler’s Character in ‘SHAZAM: FURY OF THE GODS’

Around three months ago, it was confirmed that West Side Story‘s Rachel Zegler has joined the upcoming Shazam sequel. Originally, there were theories that she might be part of Greek myth’s Three Sisters alongside Helen Mirren and Lucy Liu’s, who are playing Hespera and Kalypso, but her role remained under wraps until now. Still, there was no evidence to confirm this theory so far. Luckily, we got our hands on some information and can exclusively report that she will be playing a character called Anne and were able to get our hands on some details regarding her character.

SPOILER WARNING FOR SHAZAM! Fury of the Gods below!

Our sources have revealed that Zegler has filmed a scene, where she is referred to as Anne. It takes place at a school, where she is flirting with Jack Dylan Grazer‘s Freddy Freeman, indicating that she would play a love interest for Freddy. It casts some doubt that she might be one of the sisters after all. Yet, don’t let the “love interest” part fool you. We have also learned exclusively that a scene with Zegler was filmed on a rooftop that involved her wearing golden armor. It seems rather unlikely that a normal, unpowered schoolgirl would be wearing that on a rooftop.

So, there might be more to her background after all and she could be pretending to get closer to Freddy. Anne isn’t really a name that goes with Hespera and Kalypso too well, so we should expect Zegler will have an alternate character name as the youngest of the sisters. As for what she’s up to going to school and flirting with Freddy, time will tell. But here’s hoping she doesn’t break poor Freddy’s heart while she and her sisters mess with the Shazam!-fam in the upcoming sequel!

  • ‘Loki’ Head Writer Michael Waldron Teases Multiple Lokis for the Disney+ Show

‘Loki’ Head Writer Michael Waldron Teases Multiple Lokis for the Disney+ Show

We are only a week away from the latest Marvel Studios show to hit Disney+. Loki will explore an alternative timeline version of who managed to flee his original fate through some time travel shenanigans from the Avengers. Of course, his existence throws the timeline for a loop and it forces the Time Variance Authority to step in. Now, the God of Mischief is forced to work alongside them to repair what he damaged. Leading up to the series premiere, there have been various rumors about other incarnations of Loki finding their way into the series. The trailer titling him as a Variant certainly added to that very theory.

It seems that the show’s head writer Michael Waldron is having some fun teasing their potential inclusion in an interview with Vanity Fair. He doesn’t outright confirm it but finds a way to make it obvious that Tom Hiddleston might not be the only one to hold the mantle in the upcoming series, and how they might influence his journey throughout the various episodes.

What being is more chaotic than Loki? What do you have to learn from any version of yourself?

Vanity Fair goes on to discuss the comic origins of Kid Loki and Lady Loki. Especially the former is interesting, as some time ago it seemed like young actor Jack Veal may have nabbed the role of a prepubescent version of the Nordic god. We may get a clearer picture once the first episode premieres on June 9th. Hopefully, they won’t wait too long to give us a clearer picture of what trouble Loki will get into alongside TVA’s Morbius, especially if he will start talking to multiple incarnations of himself.

  • Donny Cates Taking Over the Strongest There Is This November With ‘Hulk’ #1

Donny Cates Taking Over the Strongest There Is This November With ‘Hulk’ #1

With the news that The Immortal Hulk writer Al Ewing was taking over Venom following the denouement of Donny Cates’ run on the book, it only makes sense that Marvel Comics had Cates lined up to follow up Ewing’s instant classic, which delved DEEP into the history and psyche of the Hulk, and send the character in a totally new direction. Cates had been teasing some big news for weeks and yesterday Marvel made it official, announcing Cates and artist Ryan Ottley, who has been doing some great work on Nick Spencer’s Amazing Spider-Man, were teaming up for a new Hulk series with the #1 due out in November.

Ewing’s 50-issue run on The Immortal Hulk will conclude, we think, in September and the final arc will see the Hulk faced with “a final accounting of his life” as he reaches the gates of Hell and the One-Below-All. Cates’ new run looks to be heading in an entirely different direction as Bruce Banner “discovers a radical way” to control the Hulk with the tease being whether or not it will be the end of the Hulk or backfire with unintended consequences…I’m guessing we can all figure out which what that’s going to go.

Cates had the following to say:

“Marvel just gave me the keys to the strongest one there is. Haha… oh boy. You guys are just not ready for this. You’re about to find out what happens when Ryan Ottley and I get angry… and guess what? Well… pretty sure you’re gonna like us a lot when we’re angry.”

Preview page from HULK (2021) #1 with art by Ryan Ottley and colors by Frank Martin.

Cates’ new book will explore the Hulk’s “incredible and destructive legacy” but will almost certainly carry on his tradition of finding creative ways to reinvent old characters and put them in some incredibly uncomfortable and surprising scenarios. In his short time at Marvel he’s made Frank Castle a Spirit of Vengeance, the Silver Surfer worthy, Loki the Sorcerer Supreme and Donald Blake interesting. The sky’s the limit for what he can do with Hulk and the incredible supporting cast of characters.  Now I’m just waiting for that Donny Cates on Avengers announcement…

  • Ryan Murphy Teases a July Premiere for the ‘American Horror Story’ Spin-Off

Ryan Murphy Teases a July Premiere for the ‘American Horror Story’ Spin-Off

For months now we’ve seen set pictures from the production of the upcoming American Horror Story spinoff. Some confirmed a return to similar locations and others teased a new setting with new characters. The basis of the show is similar to its original. However, this anthology series will kick it into high gear, as each episode is its own self-contained story set within the show’s universe. It’ll tell the stories of new and familiar faces. The main series is still filming the second half of its season, the spin-off seems to be wrapping up quite nicely, as the show is set to premier much sooner than we thought.

In a new Instagram post by series creator, Ryan Murphy, alongside the confirmation of multiple stars from the upcoming season which we’ve previously reported on, he confirmed a release window for the series. The series will indeed premiere in July. Of course, he didn’t give a specific date, but, surprisingly, the series will be releasing just next month. What remains unknown about the series is who’ll fill out the rest of the cast, as only a handful as only a few have been officially confirmed.

With the spin-off currently set to premiere in July, what’s known is that we’ll be returning to the Murder House for the series premiere with confirmed cast members of Charles Melton, Danny Trejo, Kevin Mchale, Dyllon Burnside, Nico Greetham, Kaia Gerber, Sierra Mccormick, Ashley Carter, and Paris Jackson.

  • Review: ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’ 408: Testimony

Review: ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’ 408: Testimony

Episode 7’s ending, with June bending down into the face of a kneeling Serena, who is outwardly repentant but silently superior—God loves her best, after all—was just what we needed to see.  “Do you understand me?” she asks, a tight lid on the rage that boils always beneath the surface. We want to see violence and bloodshed directed towards anyone from Gilead, but June has other things on her agenda.

Episode 8 begins with a scene which is banal in any other context:  woman who is now super serious cuts hair in an attempt to show she is serious.  We’ve seen it before, but with June, it’s different.  It’s a reminder not to us, but to the character: remember why you’re here.  Focus.

    The Handmaid's Tale' Recap: Season 4, Episode 8 — 'Testimony' | TVLine

The only concern I have with the way the season is going is that Fred, male representative of all that is Gilead, has taken a step back and has been replaced by Serena as the absolute guiltiest and most disgusting character on the show.  Why is this happening?  Throughout the episode, Fred is emasculated, clearly manipulated by Serena, and presented as a delusional defendant in court.  Fred, if not the supreme dum-dum who started Gilead, was at least in the clown car with them.  Why do I see hints of him becoming a background character?  We want to see our pound of flesh taken out of him, literally.

We may be screaming for blood, but June knows what’s needed.  We are reactionary; she is incendiary.  And she’s there to wake people up.  Group therapy in the library ends with June asking Moira why the others aren’t more angry.  “How do you know they’re not?” replies Moira, whose quiet but clear-sighted take on events throughout the series has saved more than one psyche.

June, in an attempt to force her friends to deal with the trauma of being a handmaid, brings one of the former Aunts to the next group session.  June encourages Emily to confront the woman who ratted her out to the authorities, resulting in Emily’s mutilation, but she turns on June instead.  “We’re not all like you,” she says.  So June becomes a stand-in for her friend.  As the Aunt asks for forgiveness, June confronts her.

“Why the fuck do you think you deserve forgiveness?”

“We are all God’s children,” she sobs.

“Bullshit,” responds June.  “You people hide behind God every time it serves you.”

It’s an echo of her conversation with Serena in prison.  Serena insists God brought June to her, but June corrects her.  “I brought myself here.” There is no reliance on the supernatural.  When you get rid of God, there is no place for these people to hide.

The Handmaid's Tale Season 4 Episode 8 Review: Is June Channelling Aunt Lydia? - Den of Geek

Emily leaves the therapy session without confrontation.  At first, it seems June has lost the battle, but she has lit a spark.  It turns out Emily went to the woman’s house, but was too late – she had already hanged herself.

When the women meet again, Emily admits she felt happy to see the former Aunt dead.  Women start to open up about the violent acts of retribution they would like to deliver to their former captors. Has June commandeered the therapy session to include what she feels is most important?  Of course, she has.  Moira steps in to remind the women that anger is great, but isn’t everything.  June presses her.  “Why does healing have to be the only goal?  Why can’t we BE as furious as we FEEL?  Do we have that right?”

And here the scene bleeds into our present-day experiences, as women have been demanding the world allow truth and rage and justice to have their day.  And this is why you can’t just pick up a few episodes of this series before dashing off to a lighthearted romp in the park.  It gets into your psyche and reminds you that the battles these women are fighting are not unheard of in our own world, as much as that repulses us.  June lights a tiny fire in all of us, every week.

The episode ends with Fred and Serena traveling to the courthouse while we hear a loud crowd outside.  Protesters, obviously.  They step outside to be greeted by cheers from supporters, those who have gathered to shower the golden couple with blessings.  WTF. Fred is smug; of course, they are supporting him, it was only a matter of time before they realized how great and wise he is.  Serena, however, is troubled.  She’s smarter than Fred, and she knows once you create blind and adoring followers, you can’t always lead them where you want them to go.

  • Leaked ‘WHAT IF…?” Lego Set Teases New Iron Man Armor…with a Sakarrian Twist

Leaked ‘WHAT IF…?” Lego Set Teases New Iron Man Armor…with a Sakarrian Twist

Over the past year, it seems that it’s become more common for our first look at Marvel Studios characters and properties to come via toy leaks. Whether it be Marvel Legends, Funkos or, as is the case here, Legos, fans have been able to glean quite a bit of info about upcoming MCU projects. Now, thanks to IG user 1414falconfan, we have a look at an interesting twist that would seem to be from an episode of Marvel Studios first animated streaming series, What If…?

The series, which begins streaming this August, is set to take fans on a trip throughout the multiverse where key moments in MCU history turned out just a bit different. While we can’t confirm that this Lego set is based on an episode of What If…?  (if any of the upcoming series could provide an opportunity to expand the toy line beyond what we see on the screen, it’s What If…?) it’s undoubtedly one of the cooler concepts we’ve seen from the series to date. The set seems to follow what would happen if Tony Stark, rather than Hulk, had been stranded on Sakaar.

The set, Tony Stark’s Skaarian Iron Man, shows what is clearly a Transformer’s inspired Iron Man suit built by Stark from the rubble heaps of Sakaar. In addition to the incredibly cool new Iron Man armor, the new set includes Tony Stark, Valkyrie and Uatu figures and seems to show off some artwork from other What If…? episodes on the box.

As the debut of the series draws near, we’ve already learned quite a bit about which characters will feature in the series from concept art and merchandise. Should this set be based on the series, this story line would join Captain Carter, Party Thor, evil Doctor Strange, zombie Cap, apocalypse Ultron, Gamora and Killmonger as other potential episodes. Fans are anxiously awaiting a new trailer from the series but we’ve got plenty of info to go on already and it looks like this series will deliver the goods.

  • RUMOR: Sacha Baron Cohen In Talks to Join ‘Red Sonja’ Reboot

RUMOR: Sacha Baron Cohen In Talks to Join ‘Red Sonja’ Reboot

Development on the upcoming Red Sonja reboot has been moving along quite steadily with the recent addition of Antman and The Wasp’s Hannah John-Kamen as the titular warrior, Red Sonja. Plot details for the project have remained under wraps. Gail Simone recently confirmed her involvement in the project, hinting that the film could be taking inspiration from one of her runs on the character. While we wait for more details on the project, new rumors surrounding casting for the upcoming film could hint at some connections that are sure to make Conan the Barbarian fans, and Marvel fans happy.

The Illuminerdi is reporting that Sacha Baron Cohen has been offered the co-lead role in the upcoming reboot as the evil sorcerer Kulan Goth. Long-time Marvel fans might recognize the character. Conan the Barbarian and its characters once called Marvel home before moving to other companies. Kulan Goth first appeared in Conan The Barbarian #14 and was a sorcerer during the Hyborian era. He married the witch Vammatar in hopes to obtain the powers of Shuma Gorath, a multiversal villain within the Marvel Universe. Kulan and Vammatar were eventually destroyed by the god-like entity while attempting to control him.

It’s interesting to see this character chosen as the main antagonist especially as he holds such strong ties to the Marvel universe. Goth has gone up against the Avengers and the X-Men in his Marvel comic run. The origins of the character may be rewritten and tie directly into Sonja’s, with him even possibly being responsible for her family’s death and the pillaging of her home. It’ll be interesting to see how they tackle this iconic character.

  • Netflix Announces ‘Supercrooks’ Live-Action Series as ‘Jupiter’s Legacy’s Future Becomes Uncertain

Netflix Announces ‘Supercrooks’ Live-Action Series as ‘Jupiter’s Legacy’s Future Becomes Uncertain

Superheroes are all the rage these days and every studio is trying to get their hands on the next hot property. Netflix believed they’d struck gold when they acquired the rights to Jupiter’s Legacy, a comic written by Mark Millar. While the show surely had a lot of steam behind it, it got a lukewarm reception. The story tried to explore different timelines by jumping back and forth with one storyline and the characters didn’t seem to jell with audiences.

It looks like Netflix isn’t eager to continue the Union of Justice story just yet, as the network has announced it will be allowing its stars to opt out of their contractual obligations. However, Netflix will continue its future adaptions of Millarworlds’ most popular titles. They have already been working on an animated adaption of Supercrooks and it seems they even greenlit a live-action adaptation. No voice cast has been announced for the animated series and it’s unknown if the latest announced version will spin off from Jupiter’s Legacy. Millar did take to Twitter to offer some insight into the future of this franchise:

They seem hopeful that we could see the Union return one day. I believe it would a great idea to play into the strongest aspect of season one, the past. The most interesting parts of the show were when we saw the Union journey onto the mysterious island and gain their abilities. If they do end up exploring a second season, we could get a closer look at their journey and why Skyfox ended up betraying the group.
