  • ‘Zack Snyder’s Justice League’ Has Awoken in New Teaser

‘Zack Snyder’s Justice League’ Has Awoken in New Teaser

We are only a few weeks away from the highly anticipated release of Zack Snyder’s Justice League. It has been a long road until the famous Snyder Cut would finally get released. The first trailer gave us a look at what we missed out on in 2017’s version by Joss Whedon. Now, Snyder can unveil his original vision, which includes the appearance of Darkseid, his original design of Steppenwolf, and the Knightmare sequence. The 4-hour film will be an event that no one wants to miss on HBO Max. To celebrate its release on March 18th, Warner Bros. has released a brand new design that highlights the epic tale we are about to jump into.

Snyder is talented, especially when it comes to visuals, so this showcase highlights the spectacle the upcoming film will represent. Some great details highlight the different members of the Justice League. Aquaman sits on a throne wrapped by tentacles as if he took down a beast to show his strength, while Batman to his beliefs. If you take a closer look at the grave teased before Bruce Wayne, you might notice that the gravestone has Richard Grayson’s name on it, which finally answers that questions.

Cyborg has the Mother Box’s energy beating out of him to showcase his close ties to them. The idea of using the storyline’s focus as the backdrop for the characters is a fantastic visual and unique way to promote the film. It will be quite the experience once it releases and finally gives us the vision he always wanted to reveal.

  • J.J. Abrams and Ta-Nehisi Coates Working on a ‘Superman’ Reboot

J.J. Abrams and Ta-Nehisi Coates Working on a ‘Superman’ Reboot

Fans have been clamoring to see the Man of Steel return to the silver screen ever since his last solo outing in 2013. Of course, they want to see Henry Cavill reprise his role as the last son of Krypton, something that’s been up in the air for the past few years. A while back, it was being reported that Henry Cavill had exited the role, but his management had assured everyone that the cape was still in his closet. The actor has been noticeably absent from the DCEU, which didn’t help keep spirits high. He got replaced with a body double in Shazam!, and there was no word on any future appearances being in the works. After a long wait, we finally got the confirmation that Superman has a future in the DC Extended Universe after all.

According to Deadline, J.J. Abrams has begun developing a Superman reboot through his production company, Bad Robot. Ta-Nehisi Coates will write the script, whose previous works include many notable Black Panther and Captain America comics. The project will be produced by J.J. Abrams alongside Hannah Minghella. Plot details for the upcoming project are still unknown. They have also pointed out that no lead is attached to the film. The report notes that Cavill hasn’t been signed on yet. They point out that he is eager to get back in the cape to play one of the most iconic comic book characters of all time.

His future with the franchise may still be unknown, but Cavill will return in HBO Max’s Zack Snyder’s Justice League. It will feature original and never-before-seen footage that never saw the light of day back when the original version was released in 2017.

  • ‘Shazam: Fury of the Gods’ Adds ‘West Side Story’s Rachel Zegler in Undisclosed Role

‘Shazam: Fury of the Gods’ Adds ‘West Side Story’s Rachel Zegler in Undisclosed Role

We recently reported that Shazam‘s upcoming sequel Fury of Gods is eyeing a May production start in Georgia. Well, some casting news just dropped that would help support it, as The Wrap has revealed that West Side Story‘s Rachel Zegler has joined the sequel in a key role. She is the second Colombian American actress to join a DC production right after Sasha Calle‘s casting as Supergirl for the upcoming The Flash film.

There are no details on what character she might be playing, as the film’s script is still kept under wraps. There is a chance her character could be connected to a report from four months ago. It was about the film looking to cast Greek mythologies’ Three Sisters. She could be playing one or even portray all three if they want to go down a triplet route with their portrayal. Her career has been rising, as the singer and actress will star opposite Ansel Elgort in the upcoming remake of West Side Story by Steven Spielberg.

The upcoming sequel will continue the story of Billy Batson, who can transform into an adult with superpowers after saying the iconic word. Zachary Levi will return to play the titular hero, whose name is the summary of the six gods, whose powers he was given. David F. Sandberg is also back to direct the film. He will bring a screenplay by Henry Gayden and Chris Morgan to life, which will explore the aftermath of Billy giving his adoptive siblings similar abilities.

  • ‘Titans’: First Look at Damaris Lewis’ Blackfire

‘Titans’: First Look at Damaris Lewis’ Blackfire

After months of delays, production on the upcoming third season of Titans is underway. The show’s social media has begun to tease the character’s new design for this new season. The first reveal was the highly anticipated Red Hood costume. Shortly after, we got a good look at the redesign of Starfire. Fans have been begging for more. Luckily, they aren’t stopping anytime soon. After a long wait, they finally revealed the look of Blackfire. She will be played by Damaris Lewis, who is reprising the role after a brief appearance in the last seasonShe is sporting a purple and silver suit similar to her first appearance in New Teen Titans #23.

The series still has no official release date. It will release on HBO Max now that DC Universes shifted to being a digital comic library. This season will see the return of Brenton Thwaites, Anna Diop, Ryan Potter, Teagan Croft, Alan Ritchinson, Minka Kelly, Joshua Orpin, Curran Walters, Damaris Lewis with Connor Leslie also set to return following Donna Troy‘s fate at the tail end of Titans’ second season. Joining the cast this season is Savanna Welch as Barbra Gordon and Jay Lycurgo as Tim Drake, who hopefully will be revealed in the near future. It is still unclear what role Tim will have in the story, as we may not get his introduction as the new Boy Wonder until the end or a future season. Hopefully, we get a trailer alongside a release date in the coming months.

  • ‘Shazam! Fury of the Gods’ Production Update

‘Shazam! Fury of the Gods’ Production Update

A few weeks ago actress Meagan Good, who played Super Hero Darla in 2019’s Shazam!, appeared on the Carlos Watson show and told him “God willing and by the grace of God, Shazam 2 starts in May.” Now, this was not exactly an answer that instilled a huge amount of confidence that Shazam! Fury of the Gods, would begin filming in May after a significant delay, but it was certainly hopeful. I can now confirm that the Shazam! sequel is still on schedule to begin filming in Georgia at the end of May or early June.

    The Shazam family!

Previously it had been reported that Shazam! Fury of the Gods would film in Toronto, ON, Canada this Spring, but this has apparently changed. At this time, it’s unclear whether or not the production will film entirely in Georgia or they will travel to Canada at some point to film as well. But I have heard that the Georgia part of production is prepping currently and is on course to begin filming at the end of May.

    Black Adam vs Shazam

It is interesting to note that Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam is also currently in pre-production in Georgia and should be filming at the same time. Whether or not the Shazam! production “powers that be” decided to move to Georgia for this reason (in order to make any potential cross overs between the films much easier to make happen and keep secret) is unclear, but it’s certainly a possibility!

Shazam! Fury of the Gods, starring Zachary Levi and directed by David F. Sandberg,  is scheduled to be released June 2, 2023

Note: This is not my source, however a shout out to @pridenation on Twitter who also got the info a few days ago that Shazam! Fury of the Gods would be filming in Georgia, so kudos to them on getting the location!

  • ‘Black Adam’ May Tease the Lost Golden Age of Heroes

‘Black Adam’ May Tease the Lost Golden Age of Heroes

The Justice Society of America is known as one of the first superhero teams in comic history. They recently got brought back in DC’s Doomsday Clock event. At one point, Doctor Manhattan erased them from the timeline. Yeah, I am not sure why either. The team has become somewhat of a hot topic, showing up in the recent Death Metal storyline and taking centerstage in CW’s Stargirl. We also got the confirmation that the JSA will be making their way to the DCEU in the highly anticipated Black Adam film.

The roster will consist of Doctor Fate, Hawkman, Cyclone, and Atom Smasher. With this news, many may begin to wonder why the team roster seems so small. Also, why is it missing so many key members that made the golden age so special? So far, we can figure out from the news of the upcoming film and knowledge of past iterations of the team that this probably isn’t the first incarnation of the JSA within the DCEU.

The first piece of evidence stems from a line said by Wonder Woman in Zack Snyder’s Justice League. In a conversation with Bruce, Diana tells Bruce that “They said the age of heroes would never come again”. It could be possibly referring to the gods of Olympus, but I feel as though the line could mean a whole lot more. Wonder Woman has been part of the JSA on multiple occasions. She even leads the team in the upcoming animated feature Justice Society: World War II. In Wonder Woman 1984, Diana may have stayed out of the public eye, but she was still active in her efforts to help people.

In Adventure Comics #466, following the end of the war and a decline in supervillains, villain Per Degaton had taken full advantage of the Red Scare and coerced the US government into believing these masked heroes could serve as a threat to the country. Consequently, the government forced these heroes to reveal their identities if they wish to continue. The team concluded that to keep themselves and everyone they loved around them safe, the best course of action would be to retire and disband the Justice Society. This storyline could serve as a reason why Superman was one of the first heroes to pop up and why the US government had been so critical of Clark’s actions.

Another intriguing detail about the golden age team is the chosen roster for their upcoming appearance in Black Adam. It isn’t just the roster but also how they are going to get introduced in the film. These details come from casting info for a character known as Ma Hunkel, a member of the original JSA who will appear in the upcoming film. The breakdown states that Hunkel will be the caretaker in Hawkman’s museum. In Geoff John‘s run, she served a similar role. She was the caretaker of the JSA headquarters when they were brought back into the modern-day DC universe. Ma Hunkel’s inclusion isn’t the only brow raiser, as the roster itself includes characters known as Cyclone and Atom Smasher. They will be played by Quintessa Swindell and Noah Centineo respectively.

These iterations of the characters are early recruits like they were in John‘s team. The original lineup included iconic characters that have evolved and inspired new iterations, such as DC staples like Green Lantern and The Flash, two notable absences from this roster. These absences may serve to tell even more stories in the DCEU, such as period piece set during WW2 featuring iconic members such as Hourman, Dr. Midnite, Starman, Sandman, Johnny Thunder, Mr. Terrific, Wildcat, and more.

  • ‘Naomi’: New Casting Details Teases CW’s Newest Heroine

‘Naomi’: New Casting Details Teases CW’s Newest Heroine

Ava Duvernay is becoming a mainstay at Warner Bros., especially with the recent announcement that she’d begun developing Naomi, a solo series based on one of DC’s newest characters. Naomi was created by Brian Michael Bendis back in 2019. She hails from another Earth within the multiverse. Her planet had gone through an environmental trauma, which caused the ozone layer to break. As a result, unknown radiation started to seep into her home planet. It ended up giving exactly twenty-nine people special abilities. One of these powered individuals, named Zumbado, wanted to kill her. So, her parents had to send her away. She landed on Earth-Prime and got adopted by the McDuffie family in Port Oswego. The production is now actively looking for its lead, as the first casting descriptions revealed by Illuminerdi.

They are looking for a black female around the age of 16 to 18 years. Naomi’s description states that she’s confident, charismatic, and has a sense of style without even trying. It also points out that she is very popular in High School. She is described as a cut above the rest, as she takes AP classes, speaks nine languages, and tries to take every possible extracurricular club activity. Overall, Naomi is a “modern-day Ferris Bueller with a dash of Black Girl Magic and with an unshakeable sense of self” according to her general description.

Naomi was first announced back in December, with Duvernay serving as executive producer and writer alongside Jill Blankenship, who is also serving as writer and producer on the series. Naomi currently has no release date but recently had a pilot ordered by the CW. It’ll be interesting to see such a new addition to the DC Universe make her live-action debut.

  • ‘Harley Quinn’s Started Recording for Its Third Season

‘Harley Quinn’s Started Recording for Its Third Season

DC has been producing a variety of great shows in the last few years. What started with Titans has expanded into a plethora of original productions. They used the opportunity to explore the different aspects of the comic universe. Once Warner Bros. migrated them to HBO Max, we’ve seen a large increase in new shows entering a form of production. Of course, the sophomore series that started on the original DC Universe app is continuing, as well, such as the before-mentioned Titans currently in production.

The stand-out, however, was the R-rated animated comedy Harley Quinn, which saw Kaley Cuoco take on the role of the Joker’s most iconic henchwoman. We got to see her grow into her love the course of two seasons, and many were ecstatic when the third got announced last September. We’ve been anxiously waiting for an update, and it looks like it finally arrived, as executive producer Patrick Schumacker shared an official update on Twitter.

It is great to see the return of Diedrich Bader, Jim Rash, and Chris Meloni, who gave some iconic performances in the last two seasons. The idea of a washed-up Gordon just hanging on as best as he can be a genius interpretation of a commissioner living in the most crime-ridden city of the world. Bader was a perfect choice for this universe’s Batman, especially how much it contrasts the version he played in Batman: The Brave and the Bold. I cannot wait for the next season, especially how they plan to continue where the last one ended.

  • ‘The Flash’ Adds Sasha Calle as Supergirl

‘The Flash’ Adds Sasha Calle as Supergirl

When you look up the definition of development hell, the solo Flash movie could be one of the first things you find. The movie has been through hell and back, as it went lost directors left and right after its first announcement. Finally, the movie found its savior in horror movie director, IT‘s Andy Muschietti. The story will explore Flash traveling through the multiverse. There he meets a new version of Batman, the original 1989 version played by Michael Keaton. It will be DC’s first step into exploring the many sides of the franchise’s legacy.

In a shocking announcement that no one saw coming, Muschietti made the announcement today that actress Sasha Calle will don the iconic Kryptonian crest and take up the role of Kara Zor-El, otherwise known as Supergirl. The director hand-picked Calle from over 400 other auditions. They have met actresses from all over the world before they made a decision. It looks like none of the actresses had any clue what role they were auditioning for until later into the process. Calle was one of few to make it to a chemistry test with star Ezra Miller. Muschietti had the following to say:

I saw more than four hundred auditions. The US, Argentina, Brazil, Mexico, Colombia. The talent pool was truly amazing and it was very hard to make a decision, but we finally found an actress who was destined to play this role.

The Flash is currently set for a November 4th, 2022 release date. The film will see Ezra Miller reprise the role of Barry Allen. In addition to Michael Keaton, Ben Affleck is also set to reprise his role as Bruce Wayne from the DCEU.

  • First Look at HBO Max’s ‘Aquaman: King of Atlantis’ Revealed

First Look at HBO Max’s ‘Aquaman: King of Atlantis’ Revealed

In January of 2020, before the world descended into madness, HBO Max revealed a new original was in the works for the service titled Aquaman: King of Atlantis. The series will follow the new king of Atlantis, Arthur Curry, as he starts his reign of the underwater civilization. Aquaman is joined by his friends Mera and Vulko. They are there to help him learn the Atlantean ways so that he’ll become the best king he can be. He tries his best to gain the love and trust of his people. He will also have to face his evil half-brother, evil elders, and surface dwellers. After a long wait, a trailer for Cartoon Network’s rebranding gave us our first official look at the upcoming series.

We got our first look at the upcoming series, with no release date and no voice cast, its interesting to see that production on the series seems to have already ramped up. The short snippet gives us our first look at Aquaman and Mera, as the two seem ready for combat. The animation seems to be incredibly similar to Thundercats ROAR!, a CalArts-style reboot on the classic feline warriors from the ’80s.

The series currently has no release date but is set to release exclusively on HBO Max. It is unclear if Jason Momoa, Amber Heard, Patrick Wilson, or Willem Dafoe will be reprising their roles from the film since it’s supposed to serve as a follow-up. The only real concrete creative information known is that James Wan is involved and s serving as executive producer. Hopefully, we will get a full trailer with more cast details soon to get a feeling for which direction the show is heading and how it may tie into the overarching DC Extended Universe.
