Jason Momoa’s ‘Minecraft’ Movie Gets 2025 Release Date

It seems a blocky adventure is on the horizon, as Minecraft finally has a release date. It was in April of last year that it was unveiled Jason Momoa would potentially star in a film based on the popular indie game, Minecraft. While the franchise went on to have more story-focused offerings, it mainly was about a simple concept: survival. In its very simplistic design, you play a character gathering resources and trying to survive the dangers of the night. Now, April 4th 2025 is when we’ll get to enter this blocky world.

There’s no detail on what exactly we can expect from this film and if they might take inspiration from the Minecraft: Story Mode game or even focus on concepts taken from the Dungeons spinoffs. Some time ago, it was hinted it would follow a version of the female protagonist from the game that was on a hunt for the Ender Dragon alongside a group of adventures; not too dissimilar from the recent Dungeons & Dragons film.

Steve Carrel was even at one point set to star when the film had multiple directors attached but now seems to be actually moving forward. Napoleon Dynamite director Jared Hess is still seemingly involved. For now, we’ll have to wait and see what the future has in store for the game adaptation, especially as The Super Mario Bros. Movie faced a surprisingly negative reaction from critics even after positive early reactions. So, we’ll see where the future is heading towards for video game adaptations.

Jason Momoa in Talks for ‘Minecraft’ Movie

Video game adaptions are quickly becoming all the rage again, with many studios looking to find the next hot property to turn into a successful franchise. Many have struggled to take off due to the fact that they just were not easy to adapt. One adaptation that’s been in the works for quite some time is one based on Minecraft, the popular open-world sandbox game where the sky is the limit. It seems the old project may have picked up the steam yet again as the film looks to be on the hunt for its star.

Ankler is reporting that Jason Momoa is currently in talks to voice the protagonist in the feature film adaptation. The Aquaman actor will voice the film’s main hero for what the studio is hoping will blossom into a new franchise. This news comes as Warner Bros. is set to lose its lease on the film rights to Minecraft by January if a project does not go into development by then. It seems the director of Napoleon Dynamite and Nacho Libre, Jared Hess, is set to direct the project although it is unknown just who is writing.

Not much is known plotwise for the film as it seems its taken many shapes over the past couple of years. Originally it was reported that the film would follow a female protagonist alongside a group of adventurers who’d set out to defeat the Ender Dragon as he broke free from the End and into the overworld. The film has seen multiple directors like Peter Sollet and even It’s Always Sunny in Philidelphia’s Rob Mcelhenney, with Steve Carrel at one point set to star. For now, that is all we know but we’ll see if Minecraft can truly grow into a franchise.

    ‘Minecraft’ Adding ‘Jurassic World’ DLC

No, not that is not a joke title. 2020 is just a year full of surprises. If anyone told me Minecraft would have Jurassic World DLC one day, I’d laugh it off. I mean, I haven’t played it in forever but this actually makes me want to revisit it. The official Twitter account for Jurassic World published a first look at what is included in the DLC. It will include 21 character skins, an entire recreation of the original park, and 60 exclusive dinosaur creatures.

It’s honestly impressed that they’ve recreated the entire park. They even worked within the limitations of this blocky design to still make the dinosaurs look as authentic as possible. Naturally, you can build and destroy the park however you want. The official site also states that you can drive vehicles and work with NPCs to earn high scores by solving disasters. It adds some more arcade elements to a franchise that usually gives you all the freedom you need. The player takes over the role of park manager, so maybe there are even some elements taken from Jurassic World Evolution. Anyone that actively plays Minecraft and loves dinosaurs shouldn’t miss out on it.
