What To Expect From the Future of Video Game Adaptations and When to Expect It

TBD: Yakuza

After Sonic the Hedgehog’s success, Sega has decided to move forward with more film adaptations. Now, they have set their eyes on the Japanese franchise Yakuza, which tells the story of a former member of the Dojima family, Kazuma Kiryu. The first game was released back in 2005 under the title Ryū ga Gotoku, which translates to Like a Dragon. It was then brought to western audiences a year later under the Yakuza title. The original Japanese title is also the one used for the first film adaptation back in 2007. So, this will be the second adaptation of the franchise.

In 2020, 1212 Entertainment and Wild Sheep Content announced they are developing a film based on the franchise. Currently, they have no director or cast set for production. 1212’s statement hinted at the story focusing on Kazuma Kiryu.
