What To Expect From the Future of Video Game Adaptations and When to Expect It
In 2015 there was news of an adaptation of Borderlands being in development by Lionsgate, but it wasn’t until February 2020 that Eli Roth was officially brought in to direct. Roth has a history of violent and controversially bloody horror films, so the expectations to see if he’s going to add that side of his work into this adaptation are high. Even the character he portrayed in Quentin Tarantino’s Inglorious Basterds, Donny “The Bear Jew” Donowitz, was a fan of bashing nazis’ heads with his baseball bat, so maybe we’ll get something similar this time around.
In what was seen as a huge power move by the production team, Cate Blanchett was brought on board to star as Lilith in May 2020. One of the most respected actresses in the game, Blanchett is sure to help bring more attention to the project, perhaps helping to add a few more established faces aboard down the road. But above all, the combination of Blanchett and extreme gore seems like an interesting one to say the least.
