  • ‘Five Nights at Freddy’s’ Facing a Harsh 78% Drop in its Second Weekend

‘Five Nights at Freddy’s’ Facing a Harsh 78% Drop in its Second Weekend

Five Nights at Freddy’s had a record-breaking opening for a horror film, which some believed was the highlight of the continued rise of video game adaptations. While it’ll take some time before people get tired of these adaptations, it seems that fans have front-loaded the latest entry quite a bit. As of now, the horror adaptation is going to have a second weekend at around $17.8M. That would mark a painful 78% drop.

The weekend is looking to be quite slow in general, especially as Dune Part 2 was delayed from its original release date due to the writer’s strike. Still, it’s not a good sign for day-and-date streaming releases to remain a thing moving forward, but there’s also a good chance that the film generally was frontloaded by fans similar to what we’ve seen with Marvel films throughout the last few years since the pandemic.

The rest of the weekend isn’t looking too great. Taylor Swift: Eras Tour is still at the second spot with $12M to $15M, which is a stronghold so far. Killers of the Flower Moon dropped to $6.5M which isn’t too bad given it’s initially a streaming release but given its $200M price tag still stings a bit. Priscilla also opens this weekend with a minor release with around $5M, which will put it on the fourth spot.

  • ‘Five Nights at Freddy’s Heading for Record-Breaking $68M Opening

‘Five Nights at Freddy’s Heading for Record-Breaking $68M Opening

Some might be wondering what makes an opening of $68M record-breaking may have forgotten that horror films may have legs but they aren’t big openers. Five Nights at Freddy’s is the next major video game adaptation of the year that has seemingly kicked off with Thursday night previews of $10.3M. That helped catapult it to a powerful $34M Friday opening and is setting the film on a path to open at around $68M. Word-of-mouth is going to be critical especially with this being a day-and-date release on Peacock.

That opening is higher than Halloween Kills ($49.9M) and Halloween Ends ($40M). It has now gained the biggest opening weekend for any horror release. It’s the third biggest opening for a video game adaptation; it may still dethrone Sonic the Hedgehog 2‘s $72M if word-of-mouth is strong, and it’s even the second biggest Blumhouse opening. It’s also the second largest day-and-date release since Black Widow during the peak of COVID, which opened to $80.3M.

The film has strong Social Media coverage given how large the fandom surrounding Five Nights at Freddy’s has grown. The film is based on a video game franchise from a single person that started as his final gamble of finding a foot in the industry before it ballooned into one of the biggest horror gaming franchises based on an indie property. The film is facing the usual PostTrak exits of its genre so the weekend hold is going to be interesting moving forward.

  • Jim Henson’s Creature Shop Working on Live-Action ‘Five Nights at Freddy’s’ Movie

Jim Henson’s Creature Shop Working on Live-Action ‘Five Nights at Freddy’s’ Movie

It looks like the Five Nights at Freddy’s movie is finally moving forward, as Blumhouse founder shared a new picture sharing that he’s actively working with Jim Henson’s Creature Shop on an upcoming project. While he doesn’t give away what exactly it is going to be, he does state that their “expertise with animatronics is absolutely killer” and a close look at the desk confirms they are already preparing the animatronics for Five Nights at Freddy’s.

The bowtie technically gives away that it’s Freddy but we don’t know if they might mix things up with some new animatronics. The three toes and green coloring could hint at Happy Frog. There’s no real core story they can directly adapt from the games, but as it seems to be a cleaner design, we might explore the earlier days of the pizza place. Perhaps we see what it was like before the vanishing of children turned it into the horror house that it is known for in the games.

The surprising revelation is that the project is moving forward after all. While Jason Blum teased that movement was happening in the film, it did lose its director. Chris Columbus was originally attached. There were seemingly some complications with the creator Scott Cawthon not signing off on the script, which he was involved with writing, and here’s hoping we might get an announcement soon.

  • Jason Blum Offers Update on ‘Five Nights at Freddy’s Film

Jason Blum Offers Update on ‘Five Nights at Freddy’s Film

Five Nights at Freddy’s has been quite the pop-cultural phenomenon when the first game was released by indie developer Scott Cawthon. The simple premise of you being a nightguard stuck in a Chuck E. Cheese-inspired pizza parlor as the animatronics come to life to kill you built quite the connection with players. There was a lot of excitement when Chris Columbus signed on to direct the project. Well, that was until he left the project in October making many wonders if the project is still happening.

Luckily, the founder of the production company, Jason Blum, had a QnA session on Twitter, where he answered a few questions regarding the project. While he didn’t offer any updates, it was the first time we’ve heard anything about it since Columbus left the project. In one of his tweets, he pointed out that the project is still in development and hasn’t been passed on.

He also answer a question regarding if a new director has been attached to the project, which they are seemingly still actively looking to find. The original director signed on all the way back in 2018, but due to Cawthon not signing off on any scripts – which there have supposedly been quite a few – and delaying the project further.

It’s a bit disheartening how long the project has taken, as even if the series may have overstayed its welcome for many, there’s something about the base concept that works incredibly well for a horror franchise. Five Nights at Freddy’s has also seen a resurgence with its latest game release Security Breach, which had a mixed reception. Here’s hoping we get some news on the project moving forward in the near future.

  • ‘Five Nights at Freddy’s: Security Breach’ Gets a December Release

‘Five Nights at Freddy’s: Security Breach’ Gets a December Release

After its initial announcement, we’ve been long waiting for a release date on the next entry of the Five Nights at Freddy‘s franchise. Security Breach will be a PlayStation-exclusive as it moves the franchise away from its PC routes and you get to explore a new indoor theme park based on the fictional mascot. The pizzeria has evolved into a full-blown environment and you’ll play a kid trying to escape. The latest PlayStation State of Play included a new trailer and confirmed it’ll release December 16th. It also teases some of the encounters you’ll face s you try to survive these modern-day animatronics.

FNAF just recently hit a snag with its film adaptation that lost director Chris Columbus due to script issues. So, the silence on Security Breach had some worries given the controversy surrounding the franchise’s creator, Scott Cawthon. Luckily, it seems the wait isn’t long until the next entry releases and offers a much more expanded experience within the franchise. Here’s hoping it also continues to build upon the lore introduced with the VR games, as the mystery continues to unravel. The hunt for extremely missable Easter eggs is on.

  • New Leak Reveals ‘Five Night’s At Freddy’s Next Funko Pops to Include Mobile AR Characters

New Leak Reveals ‘Five Night’s At Freddy’s Next Funko Pops to Include Mobile AR Characters

Five Night’s at Freddy‘s has grown quite a bit as a franchise. What started with some PC-only releases has expanded to other consoles, VR’s Help Wanted spinoff, an upcoming PS5-exclusive sequel, and even an augmented reality mobile game. The latter has introduced quite a few crazy additions to the franchise and it looks like you’ll soon be able to collect your favorite ones. Instagram user mariobros612, who also leaked the What If…? Funko Pops, offered a new update for some new FNAF collectibles.

In his latest list, he shares that the seventh series of Funkos will include varuizs fugzres tgat glow-in-the-dark, as they are inspired by the mobile AR game titled Five Night’s at Freddy’s AR: Special Delivery. The list includes VR Toy Freddy, System Error Toy Bonnie, High Score Toy Chica, Radioactive Foxy, and Toxic Springtrap. The only non-glowing inclusion is the Irish inspired Shamrock Freddy.

The characters introduced in Special Delivery are some of the most creative designs introduced in the franchise. This list also confirms that the upcoming PS5-exclusive Five Nights at Freddy’s: Security Breach will not get its own Funko’s anytime soon. The game still has no release date, as it was originally going to release late 2021. As it’s already October, the game might either have gotten delayed or we might get an announcement earlier rather than later.

It’s not been an easy time for the popular Chucky Cheese-inspired franchise, as the film has also recently lost its director Chris Columbus due to creative differences on the script. Even after creator Scott Cawthon worte up ten different drafts, he still hasn’t signed off on a project for Blumhouse Productions to bring it to life. Ever since the controversy surrounding the creator’s political stance made its way online, the franchise has taken a hit and news became quite sparse.

  • Chris Columbus Exits ‘Five Nights at Freddy’s Film

Chris Columbus Exits ‘Five Nights at Freddy’s Film

Five Nights at Freddy’s was quite the popular game for a while. It currently is preparing for the upcoming PlayStation-exclusive game Security Breach but has been quite silent for some time. There have been some issues with creator Scott Cawthon, as he moved on from the franchise. Yet, he was still involved with the film adaptation. Sadly, it seems that there’s still no hope for it seeing the light of day, as director Chris Columbus has officially exited the project. The reasoning seems to be Cawthon not signing off on the film’s script.

In an interview with Collider, producer Jason Blum confirmed the director left the project, who has been attached since February 2018. He didn’t reveal if they may already have someone new attached to tackle the project, but he did offer some insight into the reasoning why it’s been taking so long to enter some form of production.

We’ve written multiple scripts, and we’ve got where we’re threading a needle, which is doing justice to Five Nights at Freddy’s and making Scott (Cawthon) happy. The only way that we would go about it is giving Scott … I don’t want to do something that Scott doesn’t like. Let me say that a different way. I don’t have the right to do anything Scott doesn’t like. Basically, Scott has kind of like the equivalent of ‘final cut’ and it’s taken longer than I hoped to get the right story.

    Jason Blum

Cawthon is very productive of the property. So, it’s understandable he wants to make sure that everything is perfect when tackling the project. Yet, we know they went through ten scripts by this stage, as revealed by him back in November. Yet, he also said they’ll enter production in the spring of 2021 and already signed off on a script. So, something might’ve changed since and creative differences led to Columbus leaving.

  • Latest ‘Five Nights at Freddy’s: Security Breach’ Trailer Showcases First Gameplay

Latest ‘Five Nights at Freddy’s: Security Breach’ Trailer Showcases First Gameplay

The PlayStation’s State of Play has revealed quite a few interesting new details on upcoming games. While I am still waiting for an announcement on that rumored Silent Hill game, we did get a bit of horror in the latest showcase. Around five months ago, it was announced that the next entry in the Five Nights At Freddy‘s franchise, Security Breach. The newest trailer gave us an even better look at the game’s story and gameplay.

The opening showcases a very familiar mask to those that played through the VR game, Five Night’s At Freddy’s: Help Wanted. We get a good look at the new location and animatronics that will become our living nightmare. The most exciting aspect is that this is the first time we have a fully realized game, as previously, the games were restricted to smaller sections of the game. Security Breach seems to offer us an entire world to explore, as we avoid getting captured by the various animatronics.

Now, we can’t discuss the trailer without talking about the post-credit sequence. We see a human figure with a purple arm. Now, for anyone who doesn’t follow the overly complicated lore of these games, purple is associated commonly with the main antagonist of the franchise. The aptly named “purple guy” has deep ties with the creation of the iconic possessed animatronics. It will be interesting to see how this neon-drenched sequel will connect to the previous entries. I cannot wait to get my hands on the game.

  • Scott Cawthon Offers ‘Five Nights at Freddy’s’ Film Update

Scott Cawthon Offers ‘Five Nights at Freddy’s’ Film Update

Five Nights at Freddy’s is a fascinating franchise. The first entry started as the final project that Scott Cawthon wanted to do before leaving the franchise behind. Suddenly, the game was a massive success, and it started getting one sequel after sequel. Now, the franchise includes merchandise and even a long list of books that take place in a different canon. There was only one thing many of us were waiting for the announced Five Nights at Freddy’s movie. Well, ScottCawthon was working on a new script after the rights were passed on to Blumhouse Studio. We heard nothing on it for years until he suddenly took to Reddit to reveal some details on the script and project. It is quite a long update so don’t let the title mislead you, the film has not been canceled but is entering production soon.

Bad news about the FNAF movie. 🙁
    byu/animdude infivenightsatfreddys

Have to give it to him, the title is wonderfully misleading. So yes, the FNAF film is finally going to start shooting in Spring with Scott combining his various story ideas in one. The “Mike” naming of the screenplay is also interesting as Mike Schmidt was the name of the first game’s protagonist. It looks like he went through nine different scripts with some spinning off from the novel series. It is uncertain how the film will tie into the games or novels. They may be trying to set-up a third canon that isn’t bound by the game’s overall lore but will have similar elements.

I think focusing on something closer to the first game would be a great way to introduce filmgoers to the franchise. Hopefully, they will also be using actual animatronics and not CGI, as it would add a great and unique element to the film. There is still a lot of hype around this franchise, as its next game Security Breach will be a PlayStation exclusive. I cannot wait to see Freddy and the gang in live-action in the coming years.
