What To Expect From the Future of Video Game Adaptations and When to Expect It
2021: Resident Evil
Based on the best-selling Capcom video game series of the same name, the series is now getting rebooted following a 6-movie cinematic series that started way back in 2002. Screenwriter Paul W. S. Anderson, who directed four of the six installments, and lead actress Milla Jovovich are leaving the franchise. It will feature an entirely new cast, even if a few of the characters that we saw in previous films are going to return.
This project is said to be in development since 2017, but it was only in 2018 that it found its director in Johannes Roberts (47 Meters Down). A couple more years passed until there were any developments regarding casting, with Deadline confirming several actors were now officially attached.
The film is officially eyeing a release in 2021 and, as Roberts has said, promises to be a little more faithful to the spirit of the game than it’s predecessors.
