Tom Holland Confirms ‘SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME’ Production Wraps Today

At the moment, much is being speculated about the story this film is meant to tell. Many believe that we’ll see Peter Parker on the run from the law as he tries to clear his name for the accusations against him regarding the “murder” of Quentin Beck aka Mysterio in Spider-Man: Far From Home. After months of following rigorous safety guidelines and health protocols, Spider-Man: No Way Home has reached its final day of production. The news was confirmed via a social media post by Tom Holland via an Instagram story.

The film will be quite the beast, as it may reintroduce Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock. Others have now begun to suspect that the film will delve into the multiverse, as Benedict Cumberbatch is confirmed to return as Doctor Strange in a mentor role. Jamie Foxx is reprising his role as Electro and Alfred Molina as Doctor Octavius has also been revealed. That wasn’t the end, as more theories started to grow when Willem Dafoe and Thomas Hayden Church were rumored to appear in this film. Just recently, Andrew Garfield‘s stunt double, William Spencer, seemingly leaked his involvement in the upcoming Spider-Man feature. However, even with all the speculation, the film has managed to keep much of its plot under wraps. Even Tom Holland has been behaving and hasn’t leaked anything for now. We still have some time before it releases on December 17, 2021, but it is slowly turning into a must-watch for the year.

  • Third ‘My Hero Academia’ Film Title and Release Date Leaked

Third ‘My Hero Academia’ Film Title and Release Date Leaked

It is a good week to be a My Hero Academia fan. It’s been a year since the anime’s 4th season ended and fans have been eager to see what comes next. After a long wait, the famed anime franchise will finally kick off its brand new season this Saturday. It is set to cover two important story arcs. The first story arc will adapt the Joint Training storyline, where Classes 1A and 1B band together. In the second one, they will also cover the manga’s climatic Meta Liberation Army battle, which will focus on the League of Villains. That’s not the only thing fans are looking forward to. Ever since the teaser and announcement of the third My Hero Academia film, fans have been eager to know more about the film’s plot and story. Well, thanks to the savvy Twitter user @Atsushi101X, we finally got some more details on the film.

    https://twitter.com/Atsushi101X/status/1375007760266403852?s=20

The picture seems to be a key art for the film, along with some very interesting details. The third film installment will be titled “World Heroes’ Mission.” It’s set to release on August 6th, 2021. An official announcement is expected to be made at AnimeJapan 2021 this weekend.

Based on the imagery, theories could be made that this film might adapt the Endeavor Agency arc from the manga. Izuku Midoriya, Katsuki Bakugo, and Shoto Todoroki undergo a Hero Work internship with Shoto’s father and No. 1 hero, Endeavor. There is a good chance it might also introduce us to the No. 2 heroes, Hawks, who has a relatively strong role during this arc in the Manga.

  • Latina-Led ‘National Treasure’ Original Series Heading to Disney+

Latina-Led ‘National Treasure’ Original Series Heading to Disney+

In the early 2000s, film producer Jerry Bruckheimer teamed up with Walt Disney Pictures to produce an action-adventure mystery film franchise based on the history of the United States and the many conspiracies surrounding its founding. It would become known as the National Treasure franchise. Almost 15 years after the release of the sequel, various rumors about a revival have been making the rounds. Finally, the project got greenlit as an original series for Disney+.

While details regarding the show are scarce, Deadline revealed that the first season will consist of 10 episodes. The biggest surprise is that it is a departure from the original films, as it is dubbed as a “complete reimagining” of the franchise. The project will be written by the same writers, Marianne Wibberley and Cormac Wibberley, who are returning alongside producer Jerry Bruckheimer.  Mira Nair has joined the project as director.

This reimagining will get told from the perspective of Jess Morales and her friends. They will set out on an adventure to uncover the history behind her family and discover new, untold treasures. The series will also explore multiple thematics that are relevant to today’s day and age. Of course, it will keep the same sense of adventure, appreciation, and conspiracy inspired by the American history that these films explored in the 2000s. No date has gotten revealed for its release at this time.

  • ‘Black Widow’ Postponed for a Simultaneous Release on Disney+ And in Theaters

‘Black Widow’ Postponed for a Simultaneous Release on Disney+ And in Theaters

Looks like Marvel Studios’ first Phase 4 MCU film is finally ready to make its debut on Disney+. In the past year, since the COVID-19 pandemic started, Marvel Studios has had to work its way around its Phase 4 slate, delaying its projects for over a year and moving some projects around to officially start Phase 4 earlier this year with WandaVision (2021). Speculation over the film’s release has been thrown around over the last couple of months, with rumors running rampant about the film being shifted solely to Disney+ like Mulan (2020), or a hybrid format like Raya and the Last Dragon (2021). Well now, Black Widow (2021), has been delayed and it is scheduled to be released on July 9th and will debut in a hybrid format via theaters and Disney+ Premier Access. Disney Media & Entertainment Distribution chairman, Kareem Daniel, had the following to say on the announcement:

Today’s announcement reflects our focus on providing consumer choice and serving the evolving preferences of audiences. By leveraging a flexible distribution strategy in a dynamic marketplace that is beginning to recover from the global pandemic, we will continue to employ the best options to deliver The Walt Disney Company’s unparalleled storytelling to fans and families around the world

The move comes after Marvel’s incredible success with their Disney+ series, WandaVision (2021) and The Falcon and The Winter Soldier (2021), bringing in huge numbers as they have announced that the latter series had the biggest premiere and is also their most watched title worldwide on the platform. The film will debut on their Disney+ Premier Access format for $30, just as its predecessors Mulan (2020) and Raya and the Last Dragon (2021), as well as also be available in theaters. Directed by Cate Shortland and produced by Kevin Feige, Scarlett Johansson reprises her role as Natasha/Black Widow alongside Florence Pugh as Yelena, David Harbour as Alexei aka The Red Guardian, and Rachel Weisz as Melina.

  • How Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes Will Help Each Other Grow in “The Falcon and The Winter Soldier”

How Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes Will Help Each Other Grow in “The Falcon and The Winter Soldier”

We don’t get to see the titular characters of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier interact with each other at any point during the show’s premiere, but the episode definitely lays the groundwork for their respective arcs in the series, as well as how they will intersect.

As hinted at in the show’s trailers, Sam Wilson’s arc appears to be that of learning to accept the shield as given to him by Steve Rogers and taking his place as Captain America. We already knew from Avengers: Endgame that Sam had difficulty seeing the shield as his own, but as it turns out that feeling runs much deeper than many fans anticipated. The first episode of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier throws a curveball at the audience pretty early on, as Sam voluntarily turns the shield over to the authorities six months after Steve passed it on to him.

It’s likely that many factors – such as the pressure to live up to his old friend’s legacy and the added implications behind a Black man carrying the shield – were behind this decision. But beyond the scene at the Smithsonian with Rhodey, we don’t get to hear much about it in this episode. Instead, the remainder of Sam’s screentime after giving up the shield is focused on his personal life. He spends time with his sister Sarah and her two children – the nephews he missed out on seeing grow up during the five years he was Blipped – and his passion for keeping the legacy of his parents alive and not wanting to lose the family business is evident.

Bucky Barnes, on the other hand, doesn’t have a family, and the closest thing he had to one is now out of the picture. This not only makes him the only (known) Super Soldier on Earth, but also the only person with the experience of growing up nearly a century prior to present day but not having the life experience of the few other living people who also did. Basically, he’s a man with no real place in the world.

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier Episode 1 Recap: Captain America Is Forever | NDTV Gadgets 360

Between all of this and the decades of torture he faced from HYDRA during his Winter Soldier days, Bucky is extremely resistant to trust or develop a meaningful relationship with anyone. The closest he gets in this episode is the man he meets for lunch once a week, but even that turns out to be a reminder of his past since, as he discovers towards the end of the premiere, he murdered the man’s son while he was still the Winter Soldier.

Our two leads are living very separate lives during this first episode. It’s inevitable, though, that they’ll come together sooner rather than later (the series is only six episodes long, after all) and there’s a good chance the announcement of the new Captain America is going to be the event that sets this reunion into motion. There was one brief moment in this episode, though, that likely foreshadows the result of both characters’ arcs.

When Bucky’s therapist demands to see his phone (something that would probably never happen in real life, by the way) she mentions that Sam has sent him multiple texts that he has not replied to. While the content of these messages is unknown, their existence tells us that Sam is trying to reach out to Bucky and maybe make sure that he’s okay, just like he does with his sister in this episode, and just like he does for Steve and Natasha in Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

The Falcon and The Winter Soldier Episode 1 Review (Spoiler-Free) | Den of Geek

Despite the prevalent scenes in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier’s marketing featuring its two leads claiming they’re not friends, only co-workers, I highly suspect this will change by the end of the series. Bucky has been set up for an arc where he learns that there are people he can trust, and Sam is obviously going to be one of those people. But Bucky learning to trust again isn’t only going to serve his own arc, but Sam’s as well. Steve Rogers was chosen for the experiment that resulted in him becoming the original Captain America because Dr. Erskine deemed him as “not a perfect soldier, but a good man.” This is also a great description for Sam Wilson; he’s not a supersoldier, but he truly cares about people and is willing to go to bat for what he believes is right. Once he realizes that – and possibly succeeds in convincing others of it as well – he will be ready to accept the shield, and all that comes with it.

I guess the joke about “custody of Bucky” coming along with the Captain America shield just might actually ring true after all.

  • Theory Thursday: Mordo’s Role in the “Multiverse of Madness”

Theory Thursday: Mordo’s Role in the “Multiverse of Madness”

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is undoubtedly one of the most anticipated Marvel movies of Phase 4, coming March 2022. The name of the sequel alone has managed to spark hundreds of thousands of theories regarding its plot and after the WandaVision finale post-credit scene, fans certainly can’t wait to see what Marvel Studios has in store for the film. Helmed by director Sam Raimi, the film already has a star-studded cast with the likes of Benedict Cumberbatch, Elizabeth Olsen, Benedict Wong, Rachel McAdams, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and Xochitl Gomez. Today, we’ll take a look at Karl Mordo, who was last seen in 2016’s Doctor Strange, and what role he might have to play in the sequel.

When we last saw Mordo, he paid fellow sorcerer, Jonathan Pangborn, a visit in his workshop during the Doctor Strange post-credit sequence. In it, we learn that Mordo had left Kamar Taj many months after the events of the film took place. He talked about how he had a revelation and that the true purpose of a sorcerer was to “twist things out of their proper shape… stealing power… perverting nature.” He absorbs Pangborn’s power and strips him of it before finishing with what he sees wrong with the world: “Too many sorcerers.”

Following the MCU timeline we’ve prepared, we know that it’s been approximately around 7 years since we’ve seen Mordo. It is possible that during that time, he’s been searching for other sorcerors and possibly absorbing their magic as well. Now, at the time, this ability seemed rather new, but thanks to WandaVision, we know that both sorcerers and witches have the ability to absorb the energy from another magical user, so it is possible that during his time in exile, Mordo could have learned this ability from other persons or means. That plot will certainly carry over into the Doctor Strange sequel, but how exactly is the question.

Marvel Studios has been upping its game in terms of developing more complex antagonists than flat-out villains. What I mean by this is that a lot of the characters that play the role of the “antagonist” to our “protagonist” really present motives that justify their actions and really blur the lines between the standard “good vs evil” motif. Some examples within the MCU are Vulture, Thanos, Killmonger, Baron Zemo, and Agatha Harkness to name a few. I sense that Mordo might do the same in this sequel. Out of all of the characters I mentioned above, Mordo is a character that clearly is a stickler for rules and the “natural order”. Coming into the Multiverse of Madness, I sense Mordo might not play an antagonist to Dr. Strange throughout the whole film, but rather present to us again the team-up dynamic between Strange and Mordo.

Many theorize (myself included) that a world (perhaps even universe) ending event could occur during Multiverse of Madness and Wanda Maximoff aka The Scarlet Witch is at the center of it all. Wanda’s powers at the end of WandaVision have significantly grown since we saw her debut in 2015. Wanda literally had the ability to create her own pocket reality and cast “magic on autopilot” as Agatha Harkness put it. And now that she’s in the possession of the Darkhold, who knows what sort of magic she could learn. The point in case being, whatever Wanda is up to, it’s most likely not going to be good. Especially with that prophecy that Agatha recited regarding the Scarlet Witch. This of course will draw the attention of Dr. Strange who may attempt to put a lock on Wanda and given Mordo’s current goal and interest to stop ALL sorcerors, then at the moment, the two might share a common goal and a common enemy; to stop Wanda Maximoff and make sure that the Scarlet Witch prophecy never comes to pass.

Now, of course, while their interests to stop Wanda align, that doesn’t mean that the two necessarily have the same ideas as to how to stop Wanda. Dr. Strange will probably attempt to help Wanda hone in her powers and pass through her grief in an adequate manner, but Mordo on the other hand might see her as a threat to the natural order and try to stop Wanda Maximoff by any means necessary, including possibly absorbing her power. This goes back to the idea I was mentioning about how Mordo has become a complex character, a character who believes he has the best intentions in the world, but obviously is morally wrong. But for now, we can only wait until Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness drops in theaters in 2022.

  • Malcolm Spellman on John Walker’s Humanity in ‘The Falcon and The Winter Soldier’

Malcolm Spellman on John Walker’s Humanity in ‘The Falcon and The Winter Soldier’

The next Empire Magazine will feature The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, and give us a few more insights into the series. One that caught my notice was the quote about John Walker, (played by Wyatt Russell) also known in comics as US Agent, and a sometimes rather hot-headed version of Captain America.

Despite being introduced at D23 back in 2019, very little has been seen or said about the character, but one thing we do know, he will be donning the Captain America mantle and taking the shield, at least temporarily in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.

U.S. Agent First Look Revealed in The Falcon and the Winter Solider Disney+ Series

Rumors have circulated around the internet, as they often do about these shows, speculating that he’s going to be anything from a racist monster, a true villain, to being a sort of red herring as a villain, to perhaps being messed up and mind-controlled after taking the Super Soldier Serum. Whether any or all of these turn out to be true, it’s likely that Walker, as MCU characters often are, may turn out to be much more complex and sympathetic, than what some of these rumors might suggest. Some new quotes from showrunner Malcolm Spellman certainly support that theory.

“We took him in a more human direction, someone who’s dedicated every minute to being the perfect person to inherit the shield and represent the country.”

    Malcolm Spellman via Empire Magazine

There have been a number of quotes recently from various people involved with the series, indicating that mental health and PTSD would be explored and John Walker won’t be an exception here. Those that choose to join the military carry a great deal of stress and trauma, that can stick with them as much as physical wounds sometimes can. This is something that Bucky, Sam, and certainly John Walker, could attest to and help show the audience what these people go through and how it affects, and sometimes scars, them.

“He has to confront that – ‘Was all the stuff I did righteous, if it’s not enough for me to be honoured or accepted as the rightful heir to this mantle?’ Wyatt crushed it – the humanity of that, the scar tissue of his journey.”

    Malcolm Spellman via Empire Magazine

One of the things about Steve Rogers Cap that I’ve appreciated is the fact that he’s called Captain America, but he by far isn’t a “I’m going to follow orders and do anything and everything for my country,” kind of guy. The mantle of Captain America, isn’t just about America, to Steve, it’s about an ideal to do the right thing, to do your best. Chances are Walker is a good soldier, been following orders, possibly done some things he feels guilt over but has to live with on the way, so he feels he deserves the mantle for being a good soldier. But to truly be the rightful heir to Steve’s legacy, you have to be a good man too. Here’s hoping John Walker finds his way to be a better man, during the course of the series. (But let’s face it, we all want Sam to get that shield).

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier featured issue of Empire Magazine on March 18th ahead of the serie’s first episode releasing on Friday.

  • Kevin Feige Talks Sam and Bucky’s Role’s After ‘Falcon and The Winter Soldier’

Kevin Feige Talks Sam and Bucky’s Role’s After ‘Falcon and The Winter Soldier’

Among the many things that fans have been wondering about in the lead-up to The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, is whether or not Sam and Bucky’s show will be one and done. Some worry about what their future holds after the big “Who will wield the shield?” dilemma is answered. A quote from today’s press junket from Kevin Feige left encouraging signs for Bucky and Sam’s Marvel Cinematic Universe future.

The characters of Bucky and Sam are essential to the MCU and as they change, or as they evolve, or whatever they go through could and should have a big impact on the MCU so the answer’s yes….There can be character shifts that have massive massive implications for the stories we’re telling in the future.

It’s not exactly an announcement of a fourth entry in the Captain America franchise, or another TV series featuring Sam Wilson or Bucky Barnes. However, it is an indication that Feige knows both of the characters’ worth to the MCU, and why it’s important to keep them involved in it. These characters and their experiences will help ground the more extraordinary elements of this ever-expanding universe. Feige knows that an audience can get a much more fulfilling experience out of films by using relatable and emotionally engaging characters, rather than just creating a big spectacular blockbuster that gets panned because it’s not much else.

The Falcon & The Winter Soldier Director Wants A Season 2

I think you feel it more because we have more time with the Disney+ series but I think that’s something we’ve always tried to do. Iron Man 3 was all about Tony Stark’s PTSD from Avengers essentially. What’s great about the Marvel characters is you’ve always heard us say: is there flaws? It’s grounding something for as crazy and extraordinary and science fiction and fantasy and supernatural as the MCU can get. It’s grounding in the character experiences and the emotions of the character and that’s always by far the most important anchor for any story we’re going to tell.

As wild and fun as parts of WandaVision were, the emotional journey we went through with Wanda’s grief hit many of us hard. Yet it was important to do on many levels. The audience is allowed to see her trauma through the series, is grounding and relatable, and anchors the more fantastical elements. It seems as if we will have an emotional deep dive with Sam and Bucky in their series as well. This is what has always most attracted me to the Marvel universe and why I love the MCU characters so much. I enjoy the spectacle but still feel connected to the characters within it. It’s good to see that although the MCU will soon involve the multiverse, alongside more space and time travel, that Kevin Feige continues to understand that the most important part of these films is the connections made with the characters along the way. I’m hopeful we will continue to see more of that, and that this series isn’t the last of Sam and Bucky that we’ll see.

  • New ‘Falcon and the Winter Soldier’ Clips Showcase Bucky and Sam’s Frenemies Dynamic

New ‘Falcon and the Winter Soldier’ Clips Showcase Bucky and Sam’s Frenemies Dynamic

Early reviews are beginning to drop for The Falcon and The Winter Soldier and it’s exciting to see the positive reactions pouring out. Today Marvel also dropped a couple of new clips from the Disney+ series, which shows the friendly, yet combative relationship between the two leads.

The first clip entitled “What’s the Plan?” clearly showcases that the two just don’t get along. The staring contest and Bucky’s protest over Sam calling him “Buck” make that point very clear. Bucky and Sam are going to have to build trust and friendship if they’re going to succeed in their mission and survive their series.

The second clip is titled “The Big Three” and is easily my favorite. As a huge Hobbit fan, I loved the reference, and the thought of young Bucky buying the J.R.R. Tolkien classic back in 1937. It makes you wonder if he perhaps let his buddy Steve borrow it to read after. That is just too perfect for me. Also, I’m loving Old-Man-gatekeeper-fan Bucky telling Sam he read it when it first came out. Tolkien burn, Sam!

The fun back and forth dynamic mixes well with the tension and distrust that Bucky probably feels after so many years of being used as a killing machine. When you combine that with Sam’s slightly annoying charm, as he attempts to befriend the Winter Soldier and bring him under his wing (pardon the pun), we have a very promising dynamic. It will be interesting to see how their relationship grows throughout the next Disney+ series by Marvel Studios.

  • Report: ‘The Falcon and The Winter Soldier’ Episodes to Run 45 to 55

Report: ‘The Falcon and The Winter Soldier’ Episodes to Run 45 to 55

A new article from the New York Times on the upcoming Disney+ Marvel Studios series, The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, reports that the series of 6 episodes will all be 45 to 55 minutes in length.

“The Falcon and the Winter Soldier,” consisting of six 45-to-55-minute episodes to be rolled out weekly, offers timely explorations into the nature of patriotism and extremism and the values of inclusivity, diversity and representation, set in a world striving for stability after a global catastrophe.

    NY Times

This is in some contrast with recent quotes from series star Anthony Mackie and Kevin Feige, with Mackie comparing the series to a 6 to 8-hour movie, and Feige correcting that slightly with a “not quite 8 hours.” One assumes the New York Times should have good sources, but as someone who wants as much of the new adventures of Bucky and Sam as possible, I hope it’s a bit more.
