    ‘Joker: Folie à Deux’

    Picking up after the first film, Joker 2 would see the return of Joaquin Phoenix as the clown prince of crime, following a riot that shook Gotham and its wealthy citizens to its core. The last we saw Arthur Fleck, he found himself locked within Arkham, with quite the extended stay. In June of 2022, the sequel’s title was revealed to be Joker: Folie à Deux.

    In August 2022 it was reported that the movie, which is being described as a musical, would be eying an October 2024 release. It was also confirmed that Lady Gaga was cast alongside Phoenix in the upcoming sequel, following rumors that she could be playing Harley Quinn. Those rumors were later confirmed and photos from the set revealed the actress sporting the character’s iconic look.

    Fans had been up in arms about how much they wanted to see Jurnee Smollet reprise the role of Black Canary, and on August 20 2021 they finally got what they wished for. It was initially seen as a mere rumor that quickly was evolved into a certainty via trade report. Lovecraft Country‘s Misha Green, a project where she worked with Smollet, will be writing the project’s script.

    ‘The Flash’

    Premiere: June 23, 2023

    After changing creative teams several times, The Flash finally seems to have settled on a direction and is headed to theaters in what should be a great 2022 for Warner Media’s DC characters. Ezra Miller is expected to return for the film and both Michael Keaton and Ben Affleck are set to return as their respective Batmen, meaning we’ll see some multiversal high jinks ensue when this one hits theaters! 

    On October 5, 2020, Warner Bros. announced yet another reshuffling of their upcoming DC release schedule due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. This meant that The Flash is now set for release in the United States on November 4, 2022.

    Sasha Calle was officially confirmed as Kara Zor-El / Supergirl in February 2021 by director Andy Muschietti himself. The following month it was announced that Billy Crudup, due to scheduling conflicts, would be exiting the movie just as Maribel Verdú was joining the cast as Barry’s mother, Nora Allen. After Crudup’s exit, it didn’t take long to cast a replacement with Ron Livingston (Office Space) stepping in as Barry’s father. On the same day, Saoirse-Monica JacksonRudy Mancuso and Ian Loh were also confirmed to have joined the cast.

    The movie’s release suffer a rather big delay when in March 2022 Warner Bros, decided to move its premiere from November 2022 to June 2023.

    ‘Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom’

    In early February 2020, Sony scheduled a release date for an untitled live-action Marvel film on October 8, 2021. That date has since been moved due to the COVID-19 pandemic and as of this time, no information about the film is available, but it has been widely speculated that

    James Wan is returning to direct the sequel to the 2018 original. Jason MomoaAmber Heard and Yahya Abdul-Mateen will return in their respective roles when Aquaman 2 crashes into theaters in December of 2022. Following Momoa’s footsteps, Pilou Asbaek, another former Game of Thrones alumni, joined the cast in April 2021.

    The official title for the sequel was announced in June 2021, by James Wan himself: Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom. With a release date initially set for Christmas 2022, in March 2022 Warner Bros. decided to push it to March 2023.

  • ‘Shazam: Fury of the Gods’

    ‘Shazam: Fury of the Gods’

    Announced in December of 2019, the Shazam! sequel will be written by Henry Gayden and, reportedly, directed by David F. Sandberg, both of whom worked together to bring the first film to fans. 

    On October 5, 2020, Warner Bros. announced yet another reshuffling of their upcoming DC release schedule due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. This meant that Shazam! Fury of the Gods is now set for release in the United States on June 2, 2023.

    Rachel Zegler was reported to be joining the cast in February 2021, with the first details regarding her role being released in June. The movie’s main villain was announced in March 2021, with Helen Mirren set to portray Atlas’ daughter, Hespera. The following month another big name was confirmed to be joining the cast as Lucy Liu was announced to be playing Hespera’s sister, KalypsoDjimon Hounsou was confirmed to be returning to the franchise as The Wizard in May 2021. 

    In a massive reshuffle of the DC slate in March 2022, and unlike other projects, Shazam: Fury of the Gods saw its release date moved up from June 2023 to December 2022. The following month the movie’s premiere was once again moved up, even if this time around it was only a few days, to December 21.

    The feature’s first trailer came at San Diego Comic-Con 2022 where audiences got their first details regarding the plot, with a several-year time jump being confirmed. There was also confirmation that Rachel Zegler would be playing Antaeus, Daughter of Atlas.

    Initially announced as a direct-to-consumer film for HBO Max, Blue Beetle will tell the story of Jaimie Reyes, played by Xolo Mariduena. Director Angel Manuel Soto will direct based on a script by Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer.

    When Jaime Reyes stumbles upon the Scarab, a piece of reach technology used to conquer worlds, it attaches itself to Jaime allowing him to don the blue beetle suit and pick up the mantle of the Blue Beetle.

    In December 2021 it was reported that Warner Bros. and DC were moving the project from HBO Max to theaters, hopefully hinting at the feature’s expected quality.

    March 2022 saw four new names added to the cast, with George Lopez, Adriana Barraza, Damián Alcázar, and Elpidia Carrillo, from Predator fame, joining the project. Later that same month Academy Award nominee Sharon Stone was said to have joined the project playing Victoria Kord before Academy Award winner Susan Sarandon was cast in the same role just a couple of weeks afterward.

    Fans got their first look at the Blue Beetle suit in late May 2022 as a couple of leaked set photos found their way online.

    ‘Wonder Woman 3’

    Patty Jenkins and Gal Gadot will return for a third go of it in the currently untitled Wonder Woman film that’ll mark the third installment in the franchise. Not much is known about the project aside from that it will most likely be set in the present day.

    In April 2022 both Jenkins and Gadot were still working on the threequel’s script.

    The Matt Reeves helmed Batman project is shaping up to be a wild ride. Robert Pattinson will put on the cowl and, according to reports, work his way through his rogues gallery to solve a mystery with the help of Jim Gordon (Jeffery Wright) and Alfred (Andy Serkis). Catwoman (Zoe Kravitz), The Riddler (Paul Dano), Penguin (Colin Farrell), Carmine Falcone (John Turturro) and Harvey Dent are just some of the familiar faces set to appear when The Batman swoops into theaters on October 1, 2021.

    Production on The Batman began in the UK in January of 2020.

    In February of 2020, director Matt Reeves gave fans their first look at the new bat suit (link at the bottom of the page) and shortly thereafter, the first set photos hit the web, showing Pattinson’s stunt double in the suit in broad daylight, giving fans a great look:

    Finally, Black Adam has come to the DC universe! After what seemed like a decade’s worth of teasing, Dwayne Johnson will be bringing Black Adam to the big screen in 2021. Production is slated to start in July of 2020 and, as I first reported at That Hashtag Show, we will be getting quite a few bonus characters as the Justice Society of America is also going to debut in the film with Hawkman, Doctor Fate, Atom Smasher and Cyclone among the members we’ll meet. Johnson confirmed that while originally in the script, Hawkgirl was cut from the film.

    On September 25, 2020, the news that Aldis Hodge will take flight as Hawkman hit. This was later confirmed by Dwayne Johnson himself on his Instagram feed.

    On October 5, 2020, Warner Bros. announced yet another reshuffling of their upcoming DC release schedule due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. This, for now, left Black Adam without an official release date.

    In late March 2021, the production confirmed to have found their Doctor Fate, with former-007 Pierce Brosnan being cast as Kent Nelson. Around the same time, Dwayne Johnson unveiled the project’s new release date that would be eyeing a late July 2022 premiere. In April James Cusati-MoyerBodhi SabonuiMo Amer, and Uli Latukefu were added to the cast in roles not yet disclosed.

    In a somewhat unexpected move, in March 2022, only four months before its scheduled July 29 premiere, Warner Bros. decided to postpone the movie’s release moving it to October 21, 2022.

    Another DTC film headed to HBO Max, Batgirl, written by Birds of Prey writer Christina Hodson, will introduce another version of Barbara Gordon, played by Leslie Grace. In October 2021 it was announced that Jacob Scipio had joined the show in an undisclosed role.
