‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’s Plot Was Rewritten Due to ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’ Delay

When it was officially announced that Benedict Cumberbatch would return as Doctor Strange in the third Spider-Man film, it made many wonders how it would tie into Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. The sequel was originally going to release May 7th, 2021 until it got pushed back by an entire year while the third Spider-Man film kept its original release. Well, in a new piece by GQ they’ve highlighted that the film’s plot was rewritten once they realized they had to postpone the Doctor Strange sequels due to the pandemic.

So, Multiverse of Madness was originally going to set up the multiversal madness that Peter’s about to face. So, there’s a chance that his wish to make sure no one remembers him that leads to the spell not working might’ve been added in once the delay arrived. Of course, that may have been part of the story but the way they end up unleashing it could’ve been changed. Holland highlights that the script was rewritten on a daily basis, especially for the third act.

You could ask the director, ‘What happens in act three?’ And his response would be, ‘I’m still trying to figure it out.

    Tom Holland

It’s not uncommon for the script to get rewritten as production goes on. Many lines are improvised and sometimes what was put down on paper doesn’t quite work out as one envisioned it originally. The writers, director, and actors working together brings the final vision to life and it’ll be interesting to see what they’ve brought together once it releases next month.

  • RUMOR: ‘Doctor Strange’ Sequel Reshoots to Add Cameos From an MCU Show

RUMOR: ‘Doctor Strange’ Sequel Reshoots to Add Cameos From an MCU Show

Just recently, we learned that Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is entering an extended reshoot schedule. The main reasons were accredited to the pandemic having influenced initial production and they’re trying to make up for it. Reshoots aren’t uncommon anymore for films nowadays, especially from Marvel Studios. Yet, it seems like there might be one more reason behind the move and they are trying to add some additional cameos that weren’t possible due to production overlaps.

GWW’s KC Walsh has shared on Twitter that one of the reasoning the production entered reshoots is to work on a pivotal scene. He highlights that they also are trying to add people that were busy filming a show at the time only later to clarify that it was a production from Marvel Studios in response to another tweet. It opens up quite a few questions, as the implication is that the series was being filmed during the time the Doctor Strange sequel was in production. It’s especially noteworthy that it is specifically for a “pivotal scene” in the film.

It’s not the first time a rumor is pointing to a major cameo in the film. There were theories about an Ultron Sentry finding their way in from What If…? alongside Captain Carter. There’s also the connection with Spider-Man opening the film up to potentially directly tying into the events of that film that might spiral the madness mentioned in the film’s title. At this point, it almost seems like anything is possible with whatever the multiverse has to offer.

  • New Leaked ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’ Merch Offers Closer Look at Xochitl Gomez’s America Chavez

New Leaked ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’ Merch Offers Closer Look at Xochitl Gomez’s America Chavez

Earlier today, we’ve shared a new piece of merchandise for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness that featured Shuma-Gorath and even teased his allies. Luckily, it seems that wasn’t the only piece we got, as a new piece of merch has found its way online featuring Strange alongside Wong, Wanda, and a closer look at America Chavez. While it’s not in high-resolution, the pose is inspired by Chavez’s debut comic cover for America #1. So, it’s technically our first look at actress Xochitl Gomez in the titular role.

It’s certainly interesting that the visual tease all four as part of the same team. There have been countless rumors that Shuma-Gorath is the main threat, but the same has been the case with Wanda. Her role is quite unclear but she might have her own goals after the events of WandaVision. There’s also the question of how Chavez will play into the multiversal storyline. Given her abilities, there’s a good chance she’s the key to whatever inspires Gorath to unleash the madness upon an unassuming multiverse.

  • RUMOR: Doctor Strange May Face-Off Against Ultron Sentries in Multiversal Sequel

RUMOR: Doctor Strange May Face-Off Against Ultron Sentries in Multiversal Sequel

Here’s a curious piece of news, as The Direct has exclusively shared the news that the upcoming Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness film may feature the return of Ultron’s sentry bots in live-action. They do not go into detail if we’ll also see the return of the one controlling them, but it seems to potentially hint at a connection between the film and Disney+’s current What If…? series. They only state it’ll be from one of the universe’s Strange visits, but the natural connection would be with the recent reveal of an Infinity Stone-wielding Ultron who is taking on the Watcher.

The inclusion of Ultron Sentries could be a general short diversion. There’s a chance that the upcoming What If…? finale might tie into the upcoming film. So, it could further develop the franchise’s concept o the multiverse and also opens up the possibility that others appear. There was a rumor that Captain Carter and the corrupted version of Strange may appear in the sequel. So, more elements may manage to find a way into the upcoming film.

Of course, these are still rumors. The concept of the multiverse leaves almost any possible approach. We’ll see what the future has in store, especially if they continue building upon it. There’s a good possibility that Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania may join in the multiversal fun. The arrival of Kang the Conqueror could lead to another multiversal war. As such, we might see a lot more of Ultron in the future.

  • Sam Raimi Opens Up on Why He Decided to Direct the ‘Doctor Strange’ Sequel Even After ‘Spider-Man 3’s Heavy Backlash

Sam Raimi Opens Up on Why He Decided to Direct the ‘Doctor Strange’ Sequel Even After ‘Spider-Man 3’s Heavy Backlash

Director Sam Raimi is well-known for directing the generally beloved and well-received original Spider-Man trilogy starring Tobey Maguire as the titular hero. While the first two installments of the trilogy were standouts in the early days of comic book superhero movies, Spider-Man 3 received overall poor reviews from both fans and critics. The negative reception and backlash to the threequel halted plans for Raimi to direct the fourth film in the franchise. However, he is back to tackle Marvel Studios’ Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. In a recent interview, the director opened up about the stress of returning to helm another Marvel film:

I didn’t know that I could face it again because it was so awful, having been the director of Spider-Man 3. The Internet was getting revved up and people disliked that movie and they sure let me know about it. So, it was difficult to take back on.

    Sam Raimi

The Doctor Strange director, Scott Derrickson, ultimately backed out of the sequel due to creative differences. While the sting of Spider-Man 3 has certainly not gone away, Raimi ultimately decided to tackle Multiverse of Madness after learning that it had an opening:

My agent called me and said, ‘They’re looking for a director at Marvel for this movie and your name came up. Would you be interested?’ And I thought, ‘I wonder if I could still do it.’ They’re really demanding, those types of pictures. And I felt, ‘Well, that’s reason enough.’ I’ve always really liked the character of Doctor Strange. He was not my favorite, but he was right up there with the favorites. I loved the first movie, I thought [director] Scott Derrickson did a wonderful job, an incredible job. So, I said, ‘Yeah.’ They left the character in a great place. I didn’t think I would be doing another superhero movie. it just happened.

    Sam Raimi

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is certainly a massive and highly-anticipated film within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While Raimi’s work on Spider-Man 3 may always remain infamous, taking on the challenge to direct the Doctor Strange sequel could serve as the director’s redemption story for superhero films. The second entry in the franchise is currently eyeing a March release.

  • Connecting Imaginary Dots: The Return of the Ancient One

Connecting Imaginary Dots: The Return of the Ancient One

With more than a month since the season finale of Loki and with the story-altering events of What If…? well underway, the prospect of an ever-expanding multiverse mens countless possibilities for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It appears that all this talk about character variants, alternate timelines, and multiple universes will all come to a climax during the highly anticipated film, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. The sequel to 2016’s Doctor Strange is set to face the consequences of the events set into motion during WandaVision, Loki, What If…? and Spider-Man: No Way Home. However, even with all of these discussions about the branching timelines across the multiverse, very few details are actually known about the Doctor Strange sequel. However, some evidence indicates that there’s a good chance that we could potentially see the return of one of the most important characters during Stephen Strange’s upbringing in the mystic arts.

According to an IMDb listing, Julia Schunevitsch has been added to the stunts team for the upcoming Doctor Strange sequel as a stunt performer. What makes her addition particularly interesting is that Julia also participated in the MCU previously in 2016’s Doctor Strange as Tilda Swinton’s stunt double for the role of the Ancient One. At this point in time, it is merely speculation that Swinton could return as the Ancient One, given that her character is already technically dead given the events of Doctor Strange. However, even past her death, Swinton has returned to the MCU on a number of occasions. She reprised her role in 2019’s Avengers: Endgame and she is also set to make an appearance during an upcoming episode of What If…?. So, her death in the main timeline of the MCU may not have completely sealed the fate of this character.

With the number of events that have transpired in the MCU regarding the timeline and the multiverse, it’s no doubt that Doctor Strange will need all the help he can get to face what’s coming, and having the former Sorceror Supreme on his side would potentially make a great asset as both he (and us) navigate across the Multiverse of Madness when it hits theaters March 25, 2022.

  • ‘Doctor Strange’ and a Multitude of Cameos: Exploring the Film’s Many Rumors

‘Doctor Strange’ and a Multitude of Cameos: Exploring the Film’s Many Rumors

Besides a few hints and plenty of rumors, we know very little about Doctor Strange’s travel through the multiverse. The aptly titled Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will build upon the events of Loki and will follow after Benedict Cumberbatch’s appearance in Spider-Man: No Way Home. Yet, the multiverse opens up the franchise to what seems like endless possibilities. We know that Wanda Maximoff will return after the events of WandaVision, as she searches for her children throughout the multiverse. America Chavez will also make her MCU debut with the upcoming film. Yet, there are countless more rumors  So, let’s take a closer look at the multitude of cameos and appearances rumored for the sequel.

WandaVision“: Das Ende von Folge 9 erklärt – Das steckt hinter den Post- Credit-Szenen · KINO.de

Let’s start with those that might have larger roles in the film. A recent Funko Pop leak teases the addition of different Variants of Strange and Wong. There will be Supreme and Defenders versions, which may or may not be allies in their multiversal travels. It also included the naming of Rintrah, who Adam Hugill is reported to be playing. The iconic comic character will also get a Funko alongside the Variants, which may hint at them having a somewhat larger role in the story.

The only hint at an overarching villain we got was the hint at the appearance of the multiversal being, Shuma-Gorath. The upcoming What If series may have hinted at his inclusion, and he seems like the perfect choice for this type of storyline. He’ll likely connect to the appearance of America Chavez, whose abilities may become the catalyst for the overarching narrative in the film. Now that we got the bigger roles out of the way, let’s take a closer look at the various teased or rumored cameos for the upcoming film:

There are quite a few rumors and who knows what else might appear online in the coming months, ahead of its release. At one point, Mads Mikkelsen was rumored to make a grand return before it swiftly got debunked. It was a given that the moment Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange jumped into the multiverse that almost any possible appearance has become a possibility. So, if the rumors surrounding Spider-Man: No way Home turns out true, who knows if they may also connect with Strange’s upcoming adventure with his appearance confirmed. So, we’ll see if this list ends up growing as time goes on.

  • Namor Connection Teased in ‘Doctor Strange’ Sequel Casting

Namor Connection Teased in ‘Doctor Strange’ Sequel Casting

It looks like Shuma-Gorath might not be the only tentacle monster in the upcoming Doctor Strange sequel. A listing by actress Yenifer Molina reveals she has a role in Sam Raimi‘s film. What stands out is that her character’s name is Gargantos 2. Long-time comics fans might recognize it as a sea monster under the control of the Lemurian known as Naga. They only appeared in 1969’s Sub-Mariner #13 and X-Factor Annual #4 in 1989 but vanished since.

Its inclusion in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is quite a surprise. We still have no idea how Strange will travel through the multiverse and if each pocket dimension gets a unique arc. Her acting credits include minor roles as an office worker in Detective Pikachu and a waitress on HBO Max’s Tom and Jerry. So, this role might only have a minor part in the film. We don’t know how many universes the doctor will travel through. The creature’s backstory connects to Namor. So, it would make sense that they’d appear in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, which will potentially feature the character.

The Funko leaks hinted at Supreme and Defender Variants of Doctor Strange. So, they may end up joining their multiversal counterparts in their story. Moviegoers might get introduced to the concept of the Serpent Crown, which got tossed into a pocket dimension for safekeeping. It got created by the Elder Gods, which could connect back to Shuma-Gorath. Perhaps it is the McGuffin necessary to stop the Devourer God from taking over the multiverse.

  • New ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’ Funko Leak Teases Multiple Strange Variants

New ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’ Funko Leak Teases Multiple Strange Variants

It looks like a new Funko Pop list has found its way online that leaks some rather interesting new additions to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It includes a list of characters for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Hawkeye, and Ms. Marvel. There aren’t many surprised in the Disney+ list, but the Strange sequel has the most interesting teases. The list includes the known characters of Doctor Strange, Scarlet Witch, Christine Palmer, Mordo, America Chavez, and Rintrah.

That is not all, as it also teases different Variants of our titular hero and Wong. The list includes Supreme Strange, Defender Strange, and Defender Wong. The Defender naming could be a new costume, but the inclusion of Supreme Strange, who is to make his debut in the upcoming What If series hints at him facing different Variants across the multiverse. Instagram user mariobros612 shared the leak.

The inclusion of the dark version of Doctor Strange is a curious one. In a way, it makes sense he would join the live-action adaptation, as we did see a regular version of the character in the first What If trailer. So, the series and his upcoming film might intersect at some point, which also adds some credence to the live-action inclusion of Haley Atwell’s Captain Carter. It’s only been a few days since she was rumored to appear in the Doctor Strange sequel. So, the inclusion of his What If counterpart adds more credence to this rumor. The film is set to release in March and we might get a trailer before the end of the year that may finally hint at how much of the multiverse Strange will face in the upcoming film.

  • RUMOR: ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse Madness’ to Feature ‘What If’s Captain Carter

RUMOR: ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse Madness’ to Feature ‘What If’s Captain Carter

The upcoming What If Disney+ series will open up the Marvel Cinematic Universe into the multiverse. While the latest trailer teased this development, it was Loki‘s finale that cemented it. The only question remained if Marvel Studios’ first foray into animation may crossover into live-action. It has worked for Star Wars. So, it didn’t seem far-fetched of an idea. Luckily, a new rumor may hint at a connection as the latest episode of the DisInsider Show hinted at a rumor that Hayley Atwell‘s Captain Carter will appear in next year’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

It was part of their Rumor of the Week segment. So, we can only take it with a grain of salt for now. They also could only state that she’ll have a small part in the film. It would make sense for someone to crossover into the film from the series, as the first trailer even hinted at the presence of Benedict Cumberbatch‘s Doctor Strange in the animated series.

We even had a glimpse of what could’ve been her facing off against Shuma-Gorath. The stories seem to intersect at some point. So, she might end up facing the god-like creature before getting sucked up into whatever multiverse she meets up with Strange. Either way, it would be exciting to see Atwell‘s return to live-action in a brand new style. If the rumor pans out, it’ll be curious if she will have a future with the newly formed Marvel Cinematic Multiverse.
