Tom Hiddleston Debuts on Billboard Charts With His ‘Loki’ Song “Very Full”

The various Marvel Studios Disney+ shows have offered some fantastic storytelling and even ventured out into new territory. WandaVision gave the world the classic Munsters-inspired song “Agatha All Along” that was such a popular hit it became Billboard Chart Hit with 3,000 downloads in its first week. Well, it seems Loki managed to do the same thing as Tom Hiddleston‘s song “Very Full” has made its debut at No. 10 on the World Digital Song Sales. Hiddleston sings the song in Norwegian with some English bits. The language doubles as Asgardian and made its debut in the third episode of the Disney+ series.

What's Up With That Song in Song in Loki Episode 3? – /Film

Interestingly enough, the song was titled “Jeg Saler Min Ganger” in the end credits. It translates to “I Seal My Times,” but the title changed to “Very Full” with the release of the first volume’s soundtrack. Norwegian singer-songwriter Benedicte Mauseth and author Erlend Nødtvedt wrote the song for the show. Its success also makes it the first time Hiddleston enters the Billboard Charts.

As Billboard states, because the song is in Norwegian, it got classified for the World Digital Sales chart, which focuses on non-English and non-Spanish songs. It got downloaded around 500 times since its release. They embraced the cultural background in this song was a great move by the team behind Loki, as the Asgardians mostly spoke English throughout their appearances. Natalie Holt‘s soundtrack is generally a standout among the other Marvel Studios projects and adds an iconic atmosphere to the series. With the success of their songs, it makes you wonder if Marvel Studios might consider a musical series or film at some point.

  • The TVA: A Perfect Addition to the MCU

The TVA: A Perfect Addition to the MCU

After WandaVision and The Falcon and The Winter Soldier dealt with the post-Endgame reality of the MCU, Loki has been exploring the consequences of the path chosen to get there. Ever since 2019 that the discussion of what time travel rules within the MCU both validate and negate has never really gone away, but what was made exceedingly clear is that any changes made while in the past would create alternate realities. What this entailed, and the number of diverging timelines the Avengers created out of their time heist, has been another discussion in and of itself. It’s been hard to come up with a unifying theory that managed to explain all loose ends and define what constituted a major change to the timeline because, for all we know, a seemingly small detail as Clint Barton retrieving a baseball mint from this home in the past could trigger World War III in the future. But, two years on, Loki has seemingly managed to put all those doubts to rest by introducing us to the TVA.

It could have gone one of three ways. If the choice were to be to simply introduce a type of randomness regarding timeline interference that allowed for anything to happen, at any time, for no reason at all, you would obviously open up a lot of narrative possibilities. But by doing so, the emotional impact would be lessened as dumb luck would be the reason for anything, everything, to happen. On the other hand, by clearly defining said rules as being something woven into the fabric of how the universe works, just as physics or chemistry are in ours, it would ground the timeline interference concept but, at the same time, it would leave little room for that extra pinch of intrigue. Reality would become predictable as the universe would not change its modus operandis, it would not pick sides according to the situation, it would not trick you in order to come out on top.

So what Marvel Studios did was probably make the best decision they could have made when focusing on future drama within the MCU. With the TVA, an organization with apparently very strict rules in terms of what it does and does not allow to occur on each timeline, but still run by someone with its own agenda, Marvel Studios has managed to give itself the necessary leeway both moving forward and in explaining past narrative choices. They can easily delete or keep individual timelines when that helps with the story they want to tell, diminishing the number of loose ends that could have come and bite them in the ass later on. These decisions can either be pretty strict by following the will, code, and interests of whoever is in charge of the TVA and/or its tech, or, at the same time, can become pretty random and unexpected if that power is spread around through multiple factions down the line.

As we approach Loki‘s season finale, The Man in the Castle is about to be revealed. With him, his agenda and his own endgame, the future of the MCU will probably enter a new phase in terms of what is and what is not allowed to continue existing.

  • ‘Black Widow’: Exploring the Future of the MCU’s New Players

‘Black Widow’: Exploring the Future of the MCU’s New Players

To many viewers’ surprise, nobody died in Black Widow. At least, no one good. With the events of the blockbuster film billed as an official goodbye to Natasha Romanoff, it seemed possible that the project may be written as a stand-alone feature. As such, many justly assumed the grand majority of Black Widow-centric characters would end up as one-hit wonders. Nevertheless, the film’s release last week revealed that, aside from the dastardly Dreykov and his Red Room, not a single other major player met their end before the credits rolled.

With surprisingly enjoyable characters like David Harbour‘s Red Guardian still on the active roster, we are likely to see all of them again in some capacity. Especially with Marvel Studios’ recent penchant for bringing back characters we thought they forgot about. Of course, this begs the question of when and where Black Widow‘s supporting staff will make another appearance. We already know where we’ll see Florence Pugh‘s Yelena Belova next, but the answer isn’t as obvious for some of the others:

    Red Guardian

One of the standout introductions, David Harbour‘s Alexei Shostokoff, is undeniably fun to watch. The Russian Super-Soldier known as Red Guardian spent most of Black Widow‘s story trying to prove his might and prove to his girls he that loves them dearly. While he never truly reformed his criminal tendencies, he did manage to survive the destruction of the Red Room with a little more heart than he helped build it with. So, where do we see him pop up next?

The obvious answer may be Anthony Mackie‘s Captain America 4, where he could finally go toe-to-toe with his American counterpart. Alternatively, we could see the battle-hungry Shostokoff as a member of the Mandarin’s underground tournament in Shang-Chi. Although in my mind, there could be a more creative solution to this conundrum.

Red Guardian: What We Know About David Harbour's Black Widow Character From The Comics - CINEMABLEND

An emotional moment between Alexei and Yelena in the film included a cheeky Marvel reference, where Yelena accidentally refers to Alexei as another comic book villain, the Crimson Dynamo. He is a Russian version of Iron Man and already was adapted to the MCU in Iron Man 2 as an amalgamation with Whiplash. His inclusion there doesn’t mean he can’t play still play a role in the future.

Armor Wars traditionally features Dynamo in some role or another. It seems the MCU’s best path to making this a reality is giving Alexei a set of armor in their upcoming adaptation. The glory hog could easily use some stolen Stark tech to enhance his abilities and perhaps even take the new name as a tribute to Nat and Yelena.

    Taskmaster

Here’s your last spoiler warning if you want to avoid the biggest twist in the film.

Taskmaster’s top-secret identity turned out to be Antonia Dreykov, played by Olga Kurylenko, the brainwashed daughter of the Red Room’s founder. The involuntary antagonist has been the subject of much debate, mostly centering on her comic book inaccuracy. In the comics, Taskmaster is a man named Tony Masters, who acts as a willing mercenary and combat instructor. The dissimilarity between the two characters seems massive, but it may actually be easy for the MCU to bridge the gap.

When we last see Antonia, she’s been freed from her father’s control and joins the rest of the Black Widows in escaping from federal custody. On the run, with a surname as dangerous as “Dreykov,” the mnemonic assassin would probably want to go by a different moniker. A shortening of Antonia leads to “Toni,” while a clever play on her codename could potentially lead to a fake surname like Masters.

With a new identity and the chance to express herself, Toni could use her skills to survive as a mercenary. Or perhaps, in an attempt to repossess her past, she could revise the concept of the Red Room and open an academy that better suits her objectives. This twist would probably be a concept best explored in a Black Widow sequel, but I wouldn’t rule out the character returning in a project related to whatever the Contessa has planned up her mysterious sleeve.

    Melina Vostokoff & Rick Mason

The future of Rachel Weisz‘s Melina Vostokoff is a little harder to pin down than the others. Her emotional attachment to Alexei means the pair are likely to appear as a unit. So, I would expect the character to appear in Armor Wars, receiving a comic-accurate “Iron Maiden” get-up. She could also be the potential candidate for the aforementioned Dark Avengers project down the line. As for professional finder Rick Mason, his history as a SHIELD agent makes him a suitable match for Secret Invasion, either as a newfound member of Monica Rambeau’s S.W.O.R.D. organization or an old ally of Nick Fury called in to help. Who knows, maybe he was a Skrull all along?

  • ‘The Mandalorian’ Season 2 Finale Gets Special ‘Disney Gallery’ BTS Episode

‘The Mandalorian’ Season 2 Finale Gets Special ‘Disney Gallery’ BTS Episode

We’ve been anxiously awaiting any news on The Mandalorian‘s third season. Sadly, it seems that we will have to wait until 2022 before we find out what Din Djarin’s future has in store for him without Grogu by his side. Until then, we’ll get a spin-off The Book of Boba Fett that’s eyeing the Disney+ series main release window. Luckily, it seems the wait for anything Mandalorian-related just got shorter, as the official Twitter account for Star Wars unveiled a special Disney Gallery: The Mandalorian episode will release August 25th that’ll focus on the making of the finale.

It makes sense that they’re giving the finale a special episode. Many have wondered how they de-aged Mark Hamill for his grand return as Luke Skywalker. Overall, the finale featured some amazing effects that could keep up with any high-budget film that are worth highlighting. The first Disney Gallery season consisted of multiple episodes that explored different perspectives on developing the series. Showrunner Jon Favreau sat down with the directors, writers, animators, and cast to talk about how they brought the galaxy far far away to Disney+.

As the pandemic was raging when the second season was released, it was unlikely that they could get the team together at one table. So, they only released a singular episode that covered the entire season.  It’ll be interesting to see if they do the same with others. Marvel Studios’ Assembled series took a similar approach by adding a new episode after each Disney+ show was released. It’s still surprising we didn’t get a rebranding for the Star Wars series, as they will slowly expand in the future.

  • EXCLUSIVE: ‘Loki’ Costume Designer Christine Wada Talks Variant Costumes and Richard E. Grant’s Reaction To the Classic Costume

EXCLUSIVE: ‘Loki’ Costume Designer Christine Wada Talks Variant Costumes and Richard E. Grant’s Reaction To the Classic Costume

Loki has sparked many a discussion among fans not only about the intricacies and implications of the multiverse but also about the amazing costumes the characters wear on an episodic basis. Expect Loki characters to be the most cosplayed bunch in the coming years because the show is a haven for great costume design. And it wouldn’t be possible without people like Christine Wada, who brought the costumes conceptualized by Marvel’s visual development team to life in the Disney+ series.

Loki Review - A Meta-Meditation on What It Is to Be a Comic Book Villain

The latest episode titled Journey Into Mystery offered audiences a trove of treasures in the form of Loki variants, who ended up pruned into the Void. Each one had its own unique look that told a distinct story. Wada revealed the discussions they had in conceptualizing each Loki’s look.

The conversation was all about digging through history for the times a Loki might’ve been caught and making sure their outfits would indicate a specific moment in time when they are caught and then adding a scavenged element to it. It was fun to do as it opened the world up to much possibility.

She also revealed that the iconic Mad Max franchise played a role in how they approached the designs.

There’s definitely a hint of Mad Max with a little more humor. I don’t know if the audience really got to see it but Loki in the comics is commonly referred as a wolf and there was a wolf reference in one of the costumes too. Kate and I have a problem with fur and using a wolf head freaked us out so one of the Lokis is instead wearing one of those ironic wolf shirts from the 90s.

Sophia Di Martino made the news this past week when she revealed a unique costume feature Wada designed specifically for the British star. She had just given birth at the time of their filming. So, her costume allowed her to pump breastmilk with ease for her infant. Naturally, the costume sparked a discussion regarding Hollywood’s common lack of on-set support for talent and crew members who have the same needs as Di Martino. Wada had this to say on the issue:

I can’t speak for other productions because I don’t know how they do it. I do know that my take on it has always been that an actor’s comfort should always be part of the conversation. Your job as a costume designer is not only to create a great look but to give a performer tools to work on their highest level. To me, I see it as being part of the actors’ success. You want people to be successful in what they do. We should all be considering that. You want the costume to facilitate and not hinder.

Loki' Episode 4 Spoilers: Sophia Di Martino Gives Sylvie Preview | TVLine

A big talking point among fans in the last episode was how incredible Richard E. Grant was as Classic Loki. Grant wowed audiences with that awe-inspiring fight against Alioth and how he pretty much rocked the goofy, Silver Age Loki costume. Being one of the thousands of fans who adored him in this show, I naturally had to ask Wada what it was like making that suit for the acclaimed actor.

It was always, ‘How can we make him look like the 1960s Loki as much as possible?’ I hope he doesn’t get mad at me for this but [when he wore it for the first time] he definitely was sad he didn’t get to wear a muscle suit [laughs]. Those were all Richard E. Grant’s fantastic muscles. But really, who needs to add anything to Richard E. Grant? All you need is that face and incredible talent and you’re pretty much done.

  • First Look at Freddie Stroma’s Vigilante Costume in ‘Peacemaker’ BTS Image

First Look at Freddie Stroma’s Vigilante Costume in ‘Peacemaker’ BTS Image

Before The Suicide Squad is even out, the upcoming spin-off show Peacemaker has already wrapped filming. The show will debut in January on HBO Max. It’ll see the return of John Cena as the titular character of Christopher Smith, the man who will do anything in the pursuit of peace. Plot details for the series remain unknown as the show could be adapting the Janus Directive storyline. In it, we follow Peacemaker’s origins as he faces off against Adrian Chase, also known as the Vigilante. The small story ends up involving multiple shady organizations that all lead back to Amanda Waller.

Originally the series would’ve seen Chris Conrad as Adrian Chase, but he would ultimately get recast due to creative differences. Freddie Stroma took over the role after Conard’s exit. As the season finishes up production, a new photo featuring the entire cast has given us our first look at the actor’s suit. He is sporting the character’s classic blue and white color pallet with a V-shape design on the chest.

For those unfamiliar with the character, Adrian Chase is the second person to don the mantle of Vigilante. His first appearance was in The New Teen Titans #23 all the way back in 1982. Chase was an Attorney in New York City who went down a more violent path of justice following the murder of his wife and kids at the hands of mobsters. He would come face to face with Peacemaker after Smith murdered one of his closest friends in his absence. Chase, so terribly out of shape, would be beaten by Peacemaker and unmasked live on television, ending his career as the vigilante. It’ll be interesting to see if the HBO MMax series follows the same structure.

  • New ‘Free Guy’ Promotion Features MCU Crossover With Deadpool and Korg

New ‘Free Guy’ Promotion Features MCU Crossover With Deadpool and Korg

Here’s an interesting surprise. Ryan Reynolds just shared a video to promote his upcoming film Free Guy. In it, we get Ryan in his iconic Deadpool costume reacting to the new trailer alongside Thor: Ragnarok‘s Korg. They even make a cheeky reference to how Deadpool can join the Marvel Cinematic Universe at the end of the trailer with various Easter Eggs hidden throughout the background. Who knew that Deadpool’s contract also included him making React videos on YouTube once he joined Disney.

His inclusion makes sense if you consider the fact that Taika Waititi is also featured in the 20th Century film, but, amazingly, they’d invest the money to fully animated the CGI rock man for a 4-minute video. It’s also our first official transition from Deadpool’s 20th Century Fox roots as part of the Disney-Marvel Studios family. Perhaps we can expect more cheeky cross-franchise videos in the future. Deadpool 3 is still actively in development but we haven’t heard anything on the project in some time now.

The suit worn by Ryan Reynolds in the video seems to be the same one he had in the second entry of the franchise. As they are still writing the film, they won’t have prepared a brand new suit for the actor to wear. One of the best parts of the franchise was its creative marketing and this is a hopeful sign they will continue the tradition. He’ll have some competition with breaking the fourth wall, as She-Hulk is reported to do the same. So, her upcoming Disney+ show would be the perfect place for the two to exchange their ideas for the MCU’s future in a promotional video.

  • Marvel Studios Nabs 28 Emmy Nominations for ‘WandaVision’ and ‘Falcon and Winter Soldier’

Marvel Studios Nabs 28 Emmy Nominations for ‘WandaVision’ and ‘Falcon and Winter Soldier’

It looks like Marvel Studios’ venture into streaming and long-form storytelling has paid off. The Emmy nominations have finally announced their nominations, and Marvel Studios managed to garner 28 Primetime nominations. 23 of those are primarily from WandaVision. What makes it stand out is that it got the second-highest nominations of the year right behind another Disney+ series, The MandalorianFalcon and the Winter Soldier managed to grab five nominations during the event. It’s the first time that a Marvel live-action series gets an above-the-line nomination.

As pointed out by Deadline, WandaVision‘s tribute to television history is perfect for Emmy voters. The series’ nominations include three nods for Writing Limited Series, Casting, Hairstyling, Main Title Design, Original Dramatic Score, Main Title Theme, Sound Editing and Mixing, Special VFX, and many more. It also included the first Emmy nominations for Paul Bettany and Elisabeth OlsenMatt Shakman got nominated for his directorial work. Kathryn Hahn received her second Emmy nomination for her role as Agatha Harkness. Falcon and the Winter Soldier did score one above-the-line nomination with Don Cheadle getting a Guest Actor in a Drama Series nod.

Overall, it’s been quite a successful week for Marvel Studios. Loki‘s season finale is just around the corner. Black Widow garnered the highest pandemic opening with around $215M worldwide if you include its Disney+ Premier Access. As they venture out with new series, we could see Marvel Studios garner more attention at the Emmys in the future. Their expansion has been quite a success, as their viewership numbers have also been rising at an impressive rate. So, the future looks bright for their Disney+ expansion.

  • Tom Hiddleston Teases Loki’s Big Change in ‘WHAT IF…?’

Tom Hiddleston Teases Loki’s Big Change in ‘WHAT IF…?’

The Marvel Studios machine is running in high gear. Even as we approach the final of Season One of Loki, we are only just a few weeks away from Marvel Studios next Disney Plus series, What If…?, the studio’s first foray into a canonical animated series. What If…? will see how changes to significant events in the MCU (like Peggy Carter becoming a super soldier instead of Steve Rogers) would have changed reality. Marvel Studios star Tom Hiddleston appeared on last night’s Tonight Show to talk with host Jimmy Fallon about both projects. In describing the premise of What If…?, Hiddleston teased what’s in store for Loki and may have given a slight spoiler for his character’s episode of the upcoming series.

We know that the other storylines mentioned by Hiddleston are accurate, so it would seem like Loki’s change of familial circumstance might be too; however, we are talking about the man who has played the God of Mischief more than a few times, so it’s possible he’s pulling our legs. It’s also possible, maybe even probable, that with all the Variant Lokis we’ve met in Loki we might be getting more than one episode featuring a Loki in some way. The recent trailer shows Loki using the Casket of Ancient Winters, last seen in Thor, so maybe we’ll get a Loki who has invaded Asgard and cleared out the vault before heading to the other realms to conquer them as well.

What If…? is set to debut on Disney Plus on August 11th.

  • ‘She-Hulk’: Disney+ Series Adds ‘Sex and the City’ Cinematographer Florian Ballhaus

‘She-Hulk’: Disney+ Series Adds ‘Sex and the City’ Cinematographer Florian Ballhaus

It seems that Marvel Studios is continuing its experimentation with genre into Disney+. While Falcon and the Winter Soldier was closer to a classic Marvel fair, it also acted as a geo- and social-political drama. WandaVision consisted mostly of sitcom-inspired episodes that got reinvented with each episode.

Even Loki took the genre of mystery thriller and added some Office Space, and Wizard of Oz into the mix. We’ve known that She-Hulk would act as a legal comedy, but that might not be all it’s inspired by. According to film lens producer LEITZ whose lenses were used in the production, the Disney+ series’ upcoming Director of Photography is Florian Ballhaus.

    Allegiant (2016)

The German cinematographer is famous for his work on films like The Book Thief, The Time Traveler’s Wife, Marley & Me, and, most notably, The Devil Wears Prada. He also worked on ten episodes of Sex and the City. There are hints that Jameela Jamil‘s Titania might be a Kim Kardashian-esque influencer. His work would add the perfect flair to the series to showcase the character’s lifestyle.

Ballhaus is also no stranger to action, as he was the cinematographer for RED and Allegiant. So, he’s the perfect candidate to balance the legal comedy and Hulk action sequences. We’ve heard rumblings of the Wrecking Crew facing off against Jennifer Walters and with Mark Ruffalo‘s return as Professor Hulk, we might see these two team up against their unlikely foes. Here’s hoping we get some teases for the upcoming series. It seems likely with Marvel Studios skipping this year’s SDCC@Home, we might get our first look during Disney’s Investors Day in December.
