‘The Flash’ Set Photos Tease Ezra Miller Wearing a Familiar Ring

It has been quite a day for set photos from the upcoming The Flash film. Not only did we get a first full look at Sasha Calle‘s Supergirl costume, but we even got a glimpse of Michael Keaton returning as Bruce Wayne on set. It doesn’t end there, as we also have some set photos offering a closer look at Ezra Miller with a very peculiar object on his hand. Now, during DC FanDome we found out that Michael Keaton‘s Batman will help him design a brand new suit. Well, one of the set photos, as shared by @bigscreenleaks offers a glimpse at a rather familiar golden ring to comic readers.

    https://twitter.com/bigscreenleaks/status/1406652802559008771

The ring seems to have a very classic look and might be part of that development process for his new suit. When we are first introduced to the DCEU’s version of the character, his suit is very bulky and was quite complex in design. DC FanDome revealed a sleeker design, which seems heavily inspired by the 1991 Batman suit. It’ll be interesting to see if we get a glimpse of the new costume in future set photos, as they continue to film in an open location.

It currently seems to be taking place in Central City, but the clothes seem to fit better in a future version of Gotham that we saw in the classic Tim Burton films. Michael Keaton‘s sighting on the film’s set opens up the question of which part of the multiverse this takes place in. Whatever is the case, it’s going to be quite a spectacle once the film finally releases after getting delayed on multiple occasions.

Michael Keaton Sighted in Latest ‘The Flash’ Set Photos

It looks like the set photos aren’t stopping anytime soon for the upcoming The Flash film. The upcoming entry will bring back Michael Keaton in the role of Batman, which he hasn’t played since the 1992 film Batman Returns. We still don’t know how he will find his way into the multiverse or what role Keaton’s Wayne might have, but the latest set photos offer our first glimpse at the actor, who seems to be sporting a very familiar look. Twitter user @bigscreenleaks uploaded an image offering our first look at the actor on set. Seems they tried to replicate his hair from the original Tim Burton films, but with a silver fox look.

    https://twitter.com/bigscreenleaks/status/1406648296907608065

What is interesting to note is that he seems to be in the same location where Ezra Miller‘s Barry Allen and Kiersey Clemons‘ Iris West are filming.

    https://twitter.com/bigscreenleaks/status/1406628352790872067

As these photos are surfacing around the same time as our first look at Sasha Calle’s Supergirl, it may imply that Keaton‘s Batman is around in the mainline universe. So, perhaps Barry accidentally altered the timeline that he took Ben Affleck‘s place, or he somehow dragged Iris into the mss. There were images showcasing an ad for Central City featuring Gal Gadot‘s Wonder Woman, so it seems more likely that this incarnation of Batman may have ended up in the wrong dimension. Who says time travel and the existence of a multiverse isn’t confusing at all.

  • New ‘The Flash’ Set Photos Offer First Full Look at Sasha Calle’s Supergirl

New ‘The Flash’ Set Photos Offer First Full Look at Sasha Calle’s Supergirl

It seems we finally got a closer look at Supergirl’s new costume for the upcoming The Flash film. Twitter user @GothamAdam shared a high-res image that offers a full look at Sasha Calle as the classic heroine. We got a brief glimpse at her chest plate from director Andy Muschietti recently, but now we get a closer look at the costume in its entirety. The current version does not seem to include a cape and it is uncertain if it’ll get added in post, or they perhaps will have brief sequences of her without one. It was only a matter of time before they find their way online, as we already got glimpses of her from yesterday’s leaked set photos. either way, the costume seems strongly connected to Henry Cavill‘s design from Man of Steel, which continues to hint at her existence in the main timeline of the DCEU.

Twitter user @bigscreenleaks shared more photos of the actress offering an even better look at the costume:

    https://twitter.com/bigscreenleaks/status/1406653704871219206

The costume looks great and the emphasis on the red makes it stand out quite a bit. As John Sabato pointed out in his piece covering yesterday’s coverage, it seems they are going with a design that is strongly inspired by Lara-Lane Kent’s look from Injustice. It’s uncertain if she might actually be the daughter of Clark Kent in this universe or if they simply wanted to make her stand out from the blue-dominated look that the DCEU’s Superman wears. Either way, it’s a great look and we can’t wait to see Calle in action.

  • ‘Black Widow’: David Harbour Open to Explore Red Guardian’s Backstory in a Future Project

‘Black Widow’: David Harbour Open to Explore Red Guardian’s Backstory in a Future Project

It’s crazy to think that we’re finally going to see Black Widow in July. Not only was it postponed by an entire year, but it also will be our first Marvel Cinematic Universe film since Spider-Man: Far From Home. So, we haven’t seen a mainline entry for almost two years now. It originally was going to kick off the next phase of the franchise and will introduce the world to various new characters from Natasha’s secret past. Among them is the introduction of Russia’s answer to Captain America, the Red Guardian. David Harbour of Stranger Things fame will take on the role and shared his enthusiasm about potentially exploring more about the character beyond the upcoming film in the recent press event.

What’s funny about Alexei, you have this 25-year gap we don’t know about. We see him in Ohio and in the prison. And even before the prison, there was a time when he was the Red Guardian, he must have put the suit back on. There is this period of time where he has all these stories about his life. It’s questionable whether or not they’re real. I do think the classic Cold War thing is a really fun and funny dynamic between these two guys and the fact that they came up like nuclear warheads like in an arms-race together. I think it’s a great concept that could be explored further.

The actor went out of his way to try and get Marvel Studios’ president Kevin Feige‘s attention, who was also in the Zoom call. He makes a good point, as we are getting introduced to this character at a very late stage in his history. The question also pointed to a potential showdown between Red Guardian and Captain America, which he seemed excited to see happen even if Rogers was a Capsicle during his time holding the mantle. It would be a great way to potentially bring back a story element introduced in Falcon and the Winter Soldier.

  • Latest ‘The Flash’ Set Photos Tease Supergirls DCEU Origin

Latest ‘The Flash’ Set Photos Tease Supergirls DCEU Origin

With quite a few films in production, the DCEU is finally preparing its next wave of films. But even with a stable slate, the current state of the DCEU is still quite a bit of a mess. For a while now, fans have wondered what the future will hold for Superman or Batman in the mainline universe. The only answers we’ve received from WB are reboots of the popular characters separate from the other films. Many fans hope to see the upcoming Flash film set the record straight and give us some definitive answers on the future of this universe. It seems some set photos may have given us exactly that.

With The Flash currently filming in London, we were bound to get a few looks at the set via some passerby fans. One of the first things we saw from the set was a look at Sasha Calle in her Supergirl suit, being held up by wires as she made a classic superhero landing. The suit in question, which we got a brief look at previously, seems to be inspired by Lara-Lane Kent’s look in the Injustice storyline. The only difference is this one is sporting the DCEU Superman crest.

In addition, some more set photos confirm that she is indeed in Central City and what appears to be a one that is set in the mainline DCEU. On the street, a bus can be seen with Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman placed next to an advertisement for the Central City Children’s fund.

While plot details for The Flash are still very much under wraps, it seems that these set photos could hint at Calle’s Supergirl indeed being from the main universe and possibly filling in for Superman in his absence similar to Batman in Birds of Prey. Hopefully, The Flash will offer some sort of explanation for the absence of these iconic heroes and set the DCEU on a definitive path with a stable Justice League roster.

  • ‘My Hero Academia’ 5th Season to Mix Up the Manga’s Arc Structure

‘My Hero Academia’ 5th Season to Mix Up the Manga’s Arc Structure

As the Joint Training Arc comes to its close in the 5th Season of My Hero Academia, fans are excited to see what story arc will be adapted next for the remainder of the season. Many readers of the manga are anticipating for the season to cover one of the most popular arcs in the franchise; “The Meta Liberation Army Arc”, which is more commonly referred to as “My Villain Academia” and it shifts the focus of the story towards the League of Villains. It provides some backstory to these characters as well sowing the seeds for what’s to come later on in the show. However, it seems that fans are in for a bit of a switch-up as to what to expect for the story this season.

    https://twitter.com/heroaca_anime/status/1406174916446203906?s=20

Following the premiere of Episode 101: Have a Merry Christmas, a mid-season trailer was released for the anime’s 5th season, indicating that the first arc the second half of the season will delve into is the Endeavor Agency Arc. When watching the episode, you’ll notice that there’s been a bit of a time skip if you’re a reader of the manga. Following the events of Episode 100 with Bakugo and Todoroki obtaining their hero’s licenses and being celebrated in their achievement by their fellow classmates from Group 1A, the next episode immediately starts with them being interviewed over their acts of heroism in defeating a gang of villains. Now, continuity-wise, it all seems to flow as one continuous story, but readers of the manga will notice that the anime completely skipped over the My Villain Academia Arc and it seems to be delving completely into the Endeavor Agency Arc. This no doubt is to prepare fans for the upcoming release of the third My Hero Academia film, “My Hero Academia: World Heroes’ Mission“, which is currently set in that very arc.

However, this shift in the story does not necessarily mean that the My Villain Academia arc will be glossed over this season. The aforementioned arc was teased in today’s episode, as the episode started with an ominous “9 days ago” message and a shot of Deika City being desolated. Amongst the rubble was a haunting shot of the League of Villains’ leader, Tomura Shigaraki. Also, in the trailer released today, you can also spot a shot of one of the key players in the My Villain Academia arc, Rikiya Yotsubashi aka Re-Destro.

The 5th season has been confirmed to have 25 episodes. This was confirmed by Toho when they announced the release of 4 volumes for physical release regarding this upcoming season, the final volume ending with Episode #113. This means we have around 12 episodes left for the rest of the season. The Endeavor Agency Arc spans around 11 chapters in the manga while the Meta Liberation Army arc covers 22 chapters. So, there’s a high chance that both arcs will be covered this season, with the Endeavor Agency Arc being the opener for the 2nd half of the season while the Meta Liberation Army arc will close it out. While the order of the story is being changed up for the anime, fans of the popular manga franchise can rest assured that they’re in for fantastic story development in the coming episodes.

  • Marvel Studios’ Partnering With Sony on ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’s Marketing Campaign

Marvel Studios’ Partnering With Sony on ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’s Marketing Campaign

There has been quite a lot of discussion surrounding the exact timing when we’ll see the first trailer for Spider-Man: No Way Home. The third entry in Tom Holland’s trilogy has been heavily rumored, and in some instances even confirmed, to expand beyond the Marvel Cinematic Universe and reintroduce the world to some familiar faces. It has been well documented that Marvel Studios is mainly responsible for the creative development of these films and it was uncertain if they have any hand in the marketing.

As there will be a lot of secrets to keep and Sony is notorious for spoiling entire plotlines in their trailers, it seems that Marvel Studios might be more hands-on now. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Disney Marketing President Asad Ayaz confirmed that the marketing plan is currently being mapped out by Sony, but the Disney subsidiary is also ensuring that the trailer works out for everyone involved.

Sony is absolutely handling the marketing for Spider-Man. Kevin Feige and his team are closely partnering with the Sony team on those. So there is coordination in that sense. We also make sure we are aware of who is dropping what when. But we are not working together on the campaigns because it’s their film. They are handling it but there is a level of coordination to make sure that it’s a win-win for everybody.

Of course, he doesn’t give away when we can expect the trailer, but it certainly is a showcase that they’re actively mapping out the marketing activities. It’s not uncommon for them to be planned months in advance, but the pandemic has shortened the time window for when trailers and promotional material is made available for the public. Here’s hoping the wait isn’t too long.

  • REPORT: First Details on T’Challa’s ‘What If’ Episode

REPORT: First Details on T’Challa’s ‘What If’ Episode

It seems that Illuminerdi wasn’t quite done with the What If series just yet. They’ve recently revealed that Michael B. Jordan‘s Erik Killmonger will have an episode that’ll see him work alongside Tony Stark in the upcoming series. Well, it seems they got their hands on one more bit of in regarding another returning Black Panther character, T’Challa. We got the tease that he’ll take over the mantle of Star-Lord, as Yondu picks him up rather than Peter Quill. It seems that not only will he take on the moniker, but he’ll also lead the Ravagers, who are reformed criminals in his episode’s scenario rather than mercenaries. It’s uncertain exactly why he takes on that name, as it was given to Quill by his mother in the original Guardians of the Galaxy.

The prospect of T’Challa heading to space is already quite interesting, but there are a lot of questions open regarding how these episodes will be tackled. It seems that they most likely will explore a specific scenario per episode that continues to unravel from that point on. It actually fits into the way Loki showcases how the multiverse expands from the Sacred Timeline, as it is common for a Variant to push that timeline into a new direction. Perhaps in this case it was Yondu who mistook T’Challa for Quill that ended up changing the events of the original Guardians of the Galaxy film. Whatever may be the cause, it’s going to be interesting to see when they’ll start promoting Marvel Studios’ first foray into animation.

  • ‘Watchmen’s Tom Spezialy Joins Amazon’s ‘Silk’ as Showrunner

‘Watchmen’s Tom Spezialy Joins Amazon’s ‘Silk’ as Showrunner

It looks like development is finally underway for Amazon Studios’ Spider-Man spin-off, Silk. Deadline reported that the executive producer of HBO’s Watchmen series, Tom Spezialy, has signed a deal with Amazon that also includes him joining the Sony Pictures Television project as showrunner. He will work alongside executive producer Lauren Moon, who wrote the series that’ll explore the story of Korean-American superhero Cindy Moon. Phil Lord and Chris Miller, the minds behind Spider-Man: Into the Spider-verse, will also act as executive producers and are overseeing the various TV projects based on the webheads’ popular IP.

What is interesting to note is that Illuminerdi broke the news that Sang Kyu Kim joined the project as showrunner around four months ago. It’s uncertain if he actually was involved with the project and potentially moved on to others. Either way, it seems that Spezialy has taken on those duties moving forward. Story details are still kept tightly under wraps, as the series continues to eye an August production start. Hopefully, it means we’ll get a casting announcement by the latest of July that will finally unveil who will take on the role.

The development continuing is also an interesting indicator that the series won’t move to Netflix after all. Shortly after the spin-off was announced, Sony and Netflix unveiled their new partnership for exclusive first-look deals on any of their future projects. As of now, it’s uncertain to what extent this deal will work but it’s safe to say that any other Spider-Man-based projects will premiere there first. They also made a multi-year deal with Disney+ to ensure their franchises will be made available on the platform. So, Sony has secured its place in the streaming wars by simply partnering with everyone. It’ll be interesting to see if the amazon series might make international debuts on various other outlets moving forward.

  • ‘Loki’ Director Kate Herron Teases Episode 3’s Exploration of Sophia Di Martino’s Variant

‘Loki’ Director Kate Herron Teases Episode 3’s Exploration of Sophia Di Martino’s Variant

The latest episode of Loki finally unveiled the Variant that was killing the various groups of TVA Minutemen. It turns out the Variant was, in fact, the mysterious character played by Sophia Di Martino. Now, the episode didn’t give us any details on her motivations and why she would go out of her way to destroy the Sacred Timeline. We’ve had our theories, but it looks like we might get some definite answers earlier than we think. It was especially noteworthy that she plays a character named Sylvie rather than Loki, which was a name she openly despised. Director Kate Herron discussed some aspects of the show’s development and even teased that the third episode might have the answers we are looking for.

I would say that next week’s episode we dig more into that. I don’t want to spoil anything for people tuning in next week.

It makes sense that the third episode might have some bigger revelations, as the early press screeners only included the first two. The episode did tease that she and Tom Hiddleston‘s Loki will meet sooner rather than later, as he ran after her through the Time Gate. We also know that they will sit down for a conversation going by some of the early trailers. It gave us a glimpse at another destroyed world, which fits her pattern from the last episode, but something about it seems different. Perhaps we will also see the timeline she stems from and uncover why she unleashed the multiverse.
