  • Helen Mirren Accidentally Confirms Rachel Zegler’s Role in ‘Shazam: Fury of the Gods’

Helen Mirren Accidentally Confirms Rachel Zegler’s Role in ‘Shazam: Fury of the Gods’

There have been quite a few theories surrounding Rachel Zegler‘s role in Shazam: Fury of the Gods. In June, we did run the exclusive that she is actually the third sister alongside Helen Mirren‘s Hespera and Lucy Liu‘s Kalypso. It didn’t take long after until set photos found their way online of Zegler in a curious golden armor that added to the story. Well, it seems that Mirren may have accidentally confirmed her role in an interview with the Associated Press, where she includes her as the third goddess of the upcoming story.

I’m not going to tell you the answer to that. You’re going to have to ascertain for yourself. I’m a member of three goddesses: Lucy Liu as Kalypso and the third goddess played by Rachel Zegler, who will be a huge star in a very short space of time. So there are three of us together, and that was really a great experience because it’s so infrequent that you get to spend a whole of a movie with two other women. So often you’re the only woman in the cast. Here we were a trio, and that was great. I loved it.

    Helen Mirren

What doesn’t help the confirmation by Mirren is that Rachel Zegler took to Twitter and had a very curious reaction towards the statement shared by @ShazamNews that adds more fuel to the fire on her being the third sister.

So, it is safe to say that our story was on the money with her role. The reason she is still being kept a secret might be due to her role of going undercover. We saw her alongside Jack Dylan Grazer‘s Freddy Freeman. We’ll see if there’s a curious twist not only surrounding her identity but also her alliance moving forward.

  • Former Pink Power Ranger Amy Jo Johnson Directing an Episode of ‘Superman and Lois’ Season 2

Former Pink Power Ranger Amy Jo Johnson Directing an Episode of ‘Superman and Lois’ Season 2

Here’s a great surprise. It looks like Amy Jo Johnson is currently directing an episode of the CW’s Superman and Lois show. If that name seems familiar, Johnson became famous as Kimberly Hart, the Pink Ranger from the original Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. She has long moved on from that role and has been quite busy directing short films. She has also tackled feature-length productions, such as include 2017’s The Space Between and 2019’s Tammy’s Always Dying. Now, she is also joining the production of one of CW’s flagship DC shows, as she shares her excitement on Twitter.

It’s great to see her excitement for tackling the project and it looks like she is responsible for the sixth episode in the upcoming second season. She has made quite a name for herself with her film projects, especially during 2019’s Toronto International Film Festival with Tammy’s Always Dying. If she is tackling this project, it’ll be interesting to see if she’ll become a mainstay for future entries in the series and if she might even get a chance to tackle other projects from DC’s library.

Superman and Lois has been one of CW’s strongest showings, as it’s also co-produced by HBO Max. As such, the effects and production stand out from the other entries in their repertoire similar to Stargirl. It’ll also carry on the torch for the now discontinued Supergirl, which first introduced Tyler Hoechlin as this universe’s Superman. It’ll be interesting to see how they tackle the family drama for the Man of Steel in the second season and what the future has in store for this family.

  • ‘Doom Patrol’ Spinoff ‘Dead Boy Detectives’ Recasts Main Cast

‘Doom Patrol’ Spinoff ‘Dead Boy Detectives’ Recasts Main Cast

Doom Patrol is one of those rare situations where a spin-off is so good it manages to outshine its original in many ways. The series had become so popular that it went on to score a spin-off of its very own, focusing solely on the Dead Boy Detectives. The series introduced the characters this past season with Charles Rowland, Edwin Paine, and Crystal Palace making their live-action debuts. Before the season had even debuted the characters, they already got their own series but with a twist.

It’s being reported by Variety that the pilot has found its stars with George Rexstrew set to play Edwin Paine, Jayden Revri as Charles Rowland, and Kassius Nelson as Crystal Palace. Alongside the main cast, Alexander Calvert will play Thomas The Cat King, Briana Cuoco as Jenny, Jenn Lyon as Esther, Yuyu Kitamura as Niko, and Ruth Connel. She’s the only actor reprising their role from Doom Patrol, where she was Night Nurse.

One of the most bizarre revelations in this news was the fact that HBO Max had already cast actors in these roles since they’d already appeared in Doom Patrol. But with this spin-off the producers decided to toss away everything and start new, now official recasting the roles. They were previously played by Sebastian Croft, Ty Tennant, and Madalyn Horcher.

The project is being written by Steve Yockey who will also serve as executive producer alongside Jeremy Carver, Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, and David Madden. The project has to receive a series order from HBO Max and is currently going to film the spinoffs title pilot.

  • New Details on HBO Max’s ‘Constantine’ Series

New Details on HBO Max’s ‘Constantine’ Series

Over a year ago it was announced that JJ Abrams and his production company, Bad Robot, had closed a deal with Warner Bros to develop series and films based on the Justice League Dark characters from DC Comics. The projects have begun to pick up talent move along at a moderate pace but it seems things could be kicking much sooner than we thought. Since the announcement projects like Zatanna, Madame X, a Justice League Dark series, and now Constantine will make his return to the small screen.

RPKNews recently shared some information on the ongoing development of the series and that casting is currently searching for its lead. They’ve revealed the series is also currently titled ‘Justice League Dark: Constantine’ and that they are currently searching for a Black, British man in the 25-29-year-old range to portray John Constantine in this upcoming series. Production on the project is currently set to begin in quarter 2 of 2022.

HBO Max and Bad Robot are looking to give Constantine a new angle in this series from what previous adaptions had. Both the film starring Keanu Reeves and the series starring Matt Ryan heavily focused on the religious aspect of the character. This time around they’re looking to explore the horror aspect of the character’s comic book roots and really separate this adaption from the past.

Justice League Dark: Constantine will be written by Guy Bolton and produced by Bad Robot. No further details on the project have been revealed but we can hopefully expect some casting very soon.

  • First Look at ‘Batwoman’s New Take on Poison Ivy

First Look at ‘Batwoman’s New Take on Poison Ivy

Batwoman has been exploring new avenues of the Batman mythology by taking classic villains and adding their own spin. There’s an ongoing theme of some of Batman’s trophies from his rogue’s gallery that end up transforming unsuspecting people into new versions of their character. After Killer Croc, the same has happened to Nicole Kang‘s Dr. Mary Hamilton. After a strange thorn pricked her, she’s been turning into a new version of Poison Ivy on the show.

Executive producer Caroline Dries has shared the following remark on their new take on these classic villains:

The fun part of making each villain’s powers transferable is that we get to do our own spin on the character — this one through the lens of what Mary would create: something heightened, playful, fashion-forward, and sexy. It was so exciting to work alongside Nicole as we picked hair color, eye color and, of course, the clothing itself. But it wasn’t until Nicole showed up on set and absolutely killed her performance that the character of Poison Ivy Mary was complete

    Caroline Dries

It’s certainly a different take, but it seems a bit convenient that every single villain has the ability to pass on their abilities in some way or another. Still, it does unshackle the creative team from having to strictly follow the Batman mythos and add a unique spin, especially with a character that has been part of the show for some time. Instead of having to introduce the character, give them their own arc, they can add it to an existing one. We’ll see if they continue this trend moving forward.

In a move not even the most hardcore DC fans can explain, the HBO Max streaming series Titans is coming back for not only a 4th season, but also a 5th. ‘The Incal’ adapation finds its director in Taika Waititi

At a time when Denis Villeneuve‘s Dune is being hailed as a major cinematic accomplishment, The Incal adaptation is a few steps closer to having its own time to shine on the big screen, with Taika Waititi at the helm. What do these projects have in common? Well, a lot. Alejandro Jodorowsky is famous for having unsuccessfully tried to adapt and film Frank Herbert‘s 1965 Dune in the mid-1970s. After that, one of his projects was a graphic novel series written by himself and originally illustrated by Jean Giraud: The Incal. A project that includes and expands the concepts and artwork from the abandoned Dune film.

Laurie Holden as Crimson Countess in ‘The Boys’ Season 3

Amazon struck gold with its adaption of Garth Ennis’ The Boys, a world where the superheroes aren’t kept in check and act as they please. In the upcoming season, things are set to get even crazier than before with the arrival of Jensen Ackles’ Soldier Boy, and superhero team Payback. But these won’t be the only members of the team making their way to Vought this season, as Laurie Holden is already set to debut as Crimson Countess, their play on Scarlet Witch.

  • ‘Superman & Lois’ Will Serve as a Lead-In for ‘Naomi’ on the CW

‘Superman & Lois’ Will Serve as a Lead-In for ‘Naomi’ on the CW

The CW is making Tuesdays a DC night for fans. The network unveiled its upcoming midseason schedule. Superman & Lois will serve as a lead-in to Naomi to help launch its newest DC Comics adaption.

The second season of Superman & Lois kicks off on Jan. 11 at 8pm. During its premiere, Superman & Lois pulled in an impressive 3.25 million viewers. However, the viewership declined, as with most shows. By season’s end, the show was pulling in under 1 million views, with a less-than-stellar 0.2 in the all-important 18-49 demographic and 891,000 viewers. Still, for a CW show, those numbers are rather normal. The decision to have Naomi follow the series when it returns, however, could prove beneficial to both series.

Naomi, of course, is based on the DC Comic of the same name. It is a drama that focuses on a high schooler (Kaci Walfall) who discovers her hidden destiny after a supernatural event affects her hometown. The series was developed by Ava DuVernay, who serves as an executive producer alongside Jill Blankenship (Arrow).

  • RUMOR: HBO Max’s ‘Green Lantern’ Series to Be Similar in Tone to HBO’s ‘Watchmen’

RUMOR: HBO Max’s ‘Green Lantern’ Series to Be Similar in Tone to HBO’s ‘Watchmen’

Since the platform launched we’ve known that HBO Max would be developing a Green Lantern-based series exclusively for the streamer. The series has been developing at a much slower pace than others, but we know that the first season will span decades. Certain episodes will focus on different lanterns. We know a considerable amount about the series, especially its characters and what their stories might entail. Yet, a new rumor by Illuminerdi might be hinting that the story might be much darker than anticipated.

The series won’t be like other superhero properties, as it’s reportedly set to be much darker in tone. and being compared to HBO’s Watchmen limited series. This is great news if you consider which members of the Lantern Corp will be at the forefront of the series. Alan Scott will deal with being a closeted police officer in the 1940s, while Bree Jarta and Simon Baz face racism on their home planet. Jessica Cruz will most likely be dealing with her mental health and crippling anxiety if they take cues from her comic book origins. This darker tone is perfect for the series, as it gives the writers a much easier job bringing these characters and their stories to life without having to sugarcoat their development into full-fledged lanterns.

Green Lantern currently has no set release date but will reportedly begin filming soon. The series has cast Finn Wittrock as Guy Gardner, Jeremy Irvine as Alan Scott, and Tobias Menzies as Sinestro. There is still no word on if the series will be set within the greater DCEU, but one can only hope that isn’t cast away to another unnamed universe in the ever-expanding Multiverse Warner Brothers is building with DC.

  • Keith David Joins ‘Stargirl’ Season 3 as Mister Bones

Keith David Joins ‘Stargirl’ Season 3 as Mister Bones

The second season of Stargirl saw the arrival of Eclipso to Blue Valley, a villain who effectively dismantled the Justice Society, member by member, while barely lifting a finger. The second season just recently wrapped up its run on the CW, and filming is already underway for Season 3. Not much is known about what’s to come in the next season, but it seems a minor mention in a previous episode season will indeed set the stage for the upcoming season of Stargirl

In recent episodes, we saw Courtney and Pat make their way to the Helix Institute in search of Jenny Hayden. Jenny, of course, is on her own mission as she looks for her brother Todd Rice. Upon their departure, there’s a brief scene in which Louise Love, head nurse at Helix, makes a phone call to one Mister Bones. While it’s not clear, we can assume he is the mastermind behind the operation at Helix. At the very end of the Season 2 finale, we finally see the reveal of Mister Bones himself. Bones is on his way to Blue Valley, Nebraska, in search of more candidates for his experiments at the institute. The most shocking part of this reveal was that the person voicing Bones is none other than Keith David, best known for his work on SpawnThe Thing and The Princess and The Frog.

We previously speculated that Helix and Bones would be returning to Stargirl as possible villains in season 3. It’s still unknown if other characters like Penny Dreadful, Baby Boom, Kritter, or Tao Jones will join Bones on his way to Blue Valley. It’s also unclear if Jenny will reunite with her brother Todd.

A release date for Stargirl‘s third season has not yet been unveiled.

  • ‘Superman and Lois’ Showrunner Teases Season 2’s Villain

‘Superman and Lois’ Showrunner Teases Season 2’s Villain

Superman and Lois‘ first season reinvented the way we see stories around the Man of Steel. This time around, Clark Kent is faced with the biggest challenge ever, raising two sons alongside his love Lois Lane. He did face off against some new foes like Adam Rayner‘s Tal-Rho. Of course, it opened up the question of what other villains he might face off against in the upcoming second season. Luckily, showrunner Todd Helbing offered a small tease when he was asked if we’ve heard of the next villain he’ll face.

You have, yes. The only tease I will say is, in the same way that we took Morgan Edge and twisted the mythology a little bit—made him Clark’s brother and ultimately the Eradicator—we’re trying to go into the comic books to find lesser-known villains and reinvent them. We can introduce them and people can then go read the versions in the comics.

    Todd Helbing

In the same interview, he also highlights that we haven’t seen the last of Tal-Rho either. So, it’ll be interesting to see how many villains he might end up facing in the upcoming second season. It’s great that they want to explore smaller villains that normally wouldn’t get a chance on the silver screen or generally in live-action. It’ll be interesting to see how they tackle it. Helbing also revealed that they recently pitched the second season to the studio. So, they are still in the early stages of getting the ball rolling on the project. So, we might not see any new updates for some time until they start entering production.
