  • Ryan Reynolds Hints at a Potential 2022 Production Start for ‘Deadpool 3’

Ryan Reynolds Hints at a Potential 2022 Production Start for ‘Deadpool 3’

There have been many questions surrounding the third Deadpool film. We have no idea how it will introduce Ryan Reynolds’s character into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It will be a continuation of the last film and without the official introduction of the Mutants in the Marvel Studios franchise, it’s uncertain if it will just throw the Merc with a Mouth into a new universe, especially after the events of Loki. Well, while we don’t get any details, in an interview with Collider, the Canadian actor did hint that there’s a 70% chance they might start filming next year.

The percentage chance? I don’t know. I couldn’t assign a percentage to that. I’d say it’s 50/50 maybe? We’re really actively developing it and getting it into pretty good shape. What the hell month is it? August? Oh, next year? Probably pretty damn good. I’d say 70%.

He did confess that he’s been so busy that it’s hard to keep an overview on time, but also discussed working with the film’s writers Lizzie Molyneux-Loeglin and Wendy Molyneux.

It’s something that is just a daily process. Writing is kind of like that, you’ve gotta allot time to do it and walk away, and I’m working with the Molyneuxs on it, it’s been great. They’re incredibly talented and so, so smart. They so understand that world and know how to zig when everyone’s expecting a zag, so it’s been a lot of fun

We did recently get some Deadpool content with his first official MCU crossover. He sat next to Taika Waititi’s Korg, as they watched the film Free Guy, which he is currently promoting for Disney and 20th Century. There’s a lot of interest in the next Deadpool film due to it being the first venture for Marvel Studios into the realm of R-Ratings. They did confirm that even Blade will follow the usual PG-13 structure. So, its success could open up the company to explore further projects with the rating.

  • ‘Eternals’: Gemma Chan Teases Sersi’s Romance with Richard Madden’s Ikaris

‘Eternals’: Gemma Chan Teases Sersi’s Romance with Richard Madden’s Ikaris

Black Widow signaled Marvel Studios’ grand return to cinemas. Now, we have three more films heading our way, introducing the many corners of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. There’s one that stands out among the rest, the millennia-spanning Eternals will introduce the world to the alien race that was there when humanity was just in its infancy. After we got our first trailer, we got a glimpse at the all-star cast and the film’s central themes.

Luckily, Gemma Chan, who will play Sersi, sat down with Vogue and discussed her second MCU character after playing Minn-Erva briefly in 2019’s Captain Marvel. She offers some insight into what we can expect with her character and hints that they might be breaking the formula that put Marvel’s iconic heroes on the map, as:

Sersi is not your typical superhero: she’s not necessarily the best fighter, she doesn’t have the most obviously impressive powers. The main thing is she’s an empath. She has a connection with humans, and with the world and the earth. That is her strength, so I leant into that.

The actress goes on to discuss working alongside her long-time friend Richard Madden, who will take on the role of fellow Eternal Ikaris. Most known for his role as Robb Stark on Game of Thrones, we’ll meet his character in the film as a long-time lover of the iconic character. She shared a little insight into what we can expect from their relationship, while nervously keeping an eye out for Marvel Studios’ famous snipers.

Between us, she and Ikaris are kind of immortal soulmates. That was a fun thing to play. Over a span of a thousand years, how do you play a normal relationship? The good thing is, Richard and I have known each other for over 10 years.

It’s quite an interesting story they’ll introduce with a love that lasted for such a long time. We know that fellow Game of Thrones actor Kit Harrington will join as the Black Knight. So, we’ll see if these immortal soulmates will face some unlikely challenges once the film releases this November in theaters.

  • James Gunn Talks Rocket’s Tragic Origins in ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’

James Gunn Talks Rocket’s Tragic Origins in ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’

Even if you consider the long delay for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, we still know very little about the final entry of the iconic space opera franchise. James Gunn has dropped some hints here and there, but he gave us an update in an interview with Josh Horowitz on his Happy Sad Confused podcast.

After discussing his turbulent journey into making The Suicide Squad, and the inspiration of starting the first Guardians film, he offered a tiny insight into the emotional core of the franchise that is Rocket Raccoon, and how the threequel will explore his history before the events of the first film.

Well, I think we get to know where Rocket, you know, at the very first movie, we see Rocket take his clothes off. We see those scars on his back. We see that he comes from a place very difficult. To me, me, that’s always been the center of the Guardians. How do you make a raccoon talk and make him real. It sort of ended up being the saddest story of all time.

He also goes on to hint that the story will be quite a sad experience, and it “kills him every time.” Gunn has voiced his love for the character and confirms that we’ll explore his past and where he is from. The other Guardians will get a focus, but it seems that Rocket is at the core of this story. It will end the trilogy that he started back in 2014. Hopefully, these words don’t spell an untimely end for the loveable raccoon with anger issues in the MCU once the film releases.

  • ‘Loki’s Head Writer Michael Waldron Confirms Coordination with ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ Writers

‘Loki’s Head Writer Michael Waldron Confirms Coordination with ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ Writers

Spider-Man: No Way Home’s multiversal story seems to be the worst kept secret in the industry. Rumors dropped early that Andrew Garfield, Kristen Dunst, and many more would reprise their roles from past Marvel films in the upcoming threequel. To make matters worse, Alfred Molina confirmed his involvement and return as Doctor Octopus in an interview with Variety.

It seems that we can add Loki‘s Michael Waldron to the list of people hinting at the multiverse storyline. In an interview with The Playlist Podcast, he confirmed that he actively communicated with No Way Home writers Chris McKenna and Eric Summers. In the podcast, he states the following:

Your producing teams are constantly communicating with those producing teams to make sure that you’re not screwing each other up. I had the benefit on Spider-Man: No Way Home, Chris McKenna and Eric Summers wrote that, I was their writer’s PA on Season 5 of Community, so I can call McKenna and get bullied by him whenever I want, but also say ‘Hey, what the hell are you guys doing? Let me make sure I’m not ruining it.’ So there’s communication to the extent that the creative teams themselves, the filmmakers, the writers, whoever, can become friendly, it certainly benefits the projects.

Of course, the multiverse would be the connective tissue they would discuss. Loki‘s final episode unleashed the multiverse, with every possible branch coming into existence. With all the rumors surrounding No Way Home, it makes sense they’ll try to keep it consistent. Plus, Waldron is the writer of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, which will probably build upon the Spider-Man threequel. The collaborative approach makes a lot of sense to keep the world’s rules in line, especially if the multiverse becomes a bigger element moving forward in the current Phase of the MCU.

  • First Look at Christian Bale as Gorr the God Butcher in New ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’ Set Photos

First Look at Christian Bale as Gorr the God Butcher in New ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’ Set Photos

The God Butcher has finally arrived, even if it’s only for additional photography. The Daily Mail has reportedly obtained the first ever images of actor Christian Bale as Gorr, a renowned god killer and the main antagonist of the next installment in the Thor film franchise. The leaked set photos feature the acclaimed British actor appearing in an all-white getup, with his face coated in makeup and prosthetics, lumbering around a blocked off section of Malibu. Also included is a black robe and hood, though that appears to be part of an attempt to hide his identity and not part of the actual costume.

Bale was announced in the role late last year, as part of Disney’s annual Investor Day presentation, though his involvement in the Marvel project was known for months prior. He now seems to be taking part in a bit of extra filming, as the main Thor: Love and Thunder shoot wrapped back in June. His character, the aforementioned Gorr, is an alien extremist who makes it his mission to rid the universe of gods. This goal comes from years of a torturous life and unanswered prayers, making Gorr bitter and vengeful. Traditionally, the God Butcher wields “All-Black the Necrosword”, a blade crafted from the remnants of a Celestial, but this prop is not seen anywhere in the set photos.

Thor: Love and Thunder is set to release on May 6, 2022. The film will see the return of Chris Hemsworth, Tessa Thompson, Jaimie Alexander, and Natalie Portman as the newest God of Thunder. Taika Waititi will also return, as both director and the lovable alien Korg.

  • What I Heard This Week: Namora and ‘BLACK PANTHER: WAKANDA FOREVER’

What I Heard This Week: Namora and ‘BLACK PANTHER: WAKANDA FOREVER’

Every now and then I come across some information the veracity of which can be confirmed by a second source. What happens FAR more often is that I come across some information that while believable and from trustworthy sources, cannot be confirmed by other sources for various reasons. Typically, when the second scenario occurs, I move on and forget about the information unless, in rare instances, it turns out to be proven true somewhere down the road. With that in mind, understand that this piece of news is NOT confirmed by Disney, Marvel or any other source and, for now, should fall under the category of rumor until further confirmation comes through.

10 Amazing Characters Marvel Studios Still Can't Use - The Geek Twins

We’ve known for a while now that Marvel Studios was looking to cast two major, supporting characters in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. The Illuminerdi were first to report that the casting calls for two Mayan warriors, codenamed Zyanya and Cadmael, were for the roles of Namora and Attuma, two major Atlantean characters from the comics set to join Tenoch Huerta’s Namor in the 2022 sequel. Now, we may be able to associate a name with one of those roles. I heard this week that actress Mabel Cadena has joined the cast as Namora, the cousin of Namor and one of the original members of the Agents of Atlas!

    Mabel Cadena

The 30-year old Mexican actress checks all the boxes for the role of Namora. Marvel Studios was looking for an Hispanic or Latino actress, 20-40, with previous experience in physical roles. Cadena, who recently starred in Dance of the 41 (now available on Netflix) and Hernan (now available on Amazon Prime), has been in the Atlanta area and been hitting the gym to prep for the role.

Huerta also recently began interacting with Cadena on Instagram, which may add a little more fuel to the rumor mill fires, if you’re into that sort of thing. Again, at this point there is no confirmation from any official source, so this should be treated as a rumor; however, a lot of supporting evidence does exist.

  • Kevin Feige Shares How ‘Black Panther’s Reception Fast-Tracked ‘Shang-Chi’

Kevin Feige Shares How ‘Black Panther’s Reception Fast-Tracked ‘Shang-Chi’

Marvel Studios is back in theaters with their next major project heading our way this September. Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings will explore a new corner of the Marvel Cinematic Multiverse. Not only will it finally unveil the true Ten Rings organization teased since 2008’s Iron Man, but we’ll also get to explore a new cornerstone of cinematic representation, an Asian-American-led superhero film. In an interview with Empire, Kevin Feige revealed that he’s been on their list of potential cinematic heroes, but it was Black Panther’s success and social relevance that drove them to fast-track the project to ensure that everyone can see themselves on the silver screen.

I remember seeing a viral video when the Black Panther poster first came out. It was some young men in a movie theatre overwhelmed with excitement at seeing the poster, and it was moving because people were excited about the movie we were making. But it was also a harsh realisation that they were reacting that way because they had not seen it before. So Panther really coalesced the notion of, ‘Everybody deserves to see themselves portrayed in these larger-than-life ways.

Shang-Chi And The Legend Of The Ten Rings – exclusive

While part of the film will explore the Ten Rings and Shang-Chi’s heritage, there’s a strong emphasis on his time living in the United States. It allows them to bring that very story to life and explore what it means to live as an Asian-American in the country. Black Panther was the first sign of the importance that cinema gives everyone a chance to see themselves on the silver screen, or even as a hero. Hopefully, it’s also just the beginning of exploring the diverse corners of the MCU.

  • ‘Doctor Strange’ and a Multitude of Cameos: Exploring the Film’s Many Rumors

‘Doctor Strange’ and a Multitude of Cameos: Exploring the Film’s Many Rumors

Besides a few hints and plenty of rumors, we know very little about Doctor Strange’s travel through the multiverse. The aptly titled Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will build upon the events of Loki and will follow after Benedict Cumberbatch’s appearance in Spider-Man: No Way Home. Yet, the multiverse opens up the franchise to what seems like endless possibilities. We know that Wanda Maximoff will return after the events of WandaVision, as she searches for her children throughout the multiverse. America Chavez will also make her MCU debut with the upcoming film. Yet, there are countless more rumors  So, let’s take a closer look at the multitude of cameos and appearances rumored for the sequel.

WandaVision“: Das Ende von Folge 9 erklärt – Das steckt hinter den Post- Credit-Szenen · KINO.de

Let’s start with those that might have larger roles in the film. A recent Funko Pop leak teases the addition of different Variants of Strange and Wong. There will be Supreme and Defenders versions, which may or may not be allies in their multiversal travels. It also included the naming of Rintrah, who Adam Hugill is reported to be playing. The iconic comic character will also get a Funko alongside the Variants, which may hint at them having a somewhat larger role in the story.

The only hint at an overarching villain we got was the hint at the appearance of the multiversal being, Shuma-Gorath. The upcoming What If series may have hinted at his inclusion, and he seems like the perfect choice for this type of storyline. He’ll likely connect to the appearance of America Chavez, whose abilities may become the catalyst for the overarching narrative in the film. Now that we got the bigger roles out of the way, let’s take a closer look at the various teased or rumored cameos for the upcoming film:

Bruce Campbell in 'Doctor Strange'-Sequel dabei?

There are quite a few rumors and who knows what else might appear online in the coming months, ahead of its release. At one point, Mads Mikkelsen was rumored to make a grand return before it swiftly got debunked. It was a given that the moment Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange jumped into the multiverse that almost any possible appearance has become a possibility. So, if the rumors surrounding Spider-Man: No way Home turns out true, who knows if they may also connect with Strange’s upcoming adventure with his appearance confirmed. So, we’ll see if this list ends up growing as time goes on.

  • Top 5 Directors To Direct ‘SPIDER-MAN’s Next Trilogy

Top 5 Directors To Direct ‘SPIDER-MAN’s Next Trilogy

Jon Watts‘ time behind the Spider-Man camera is coming to an end. The director will close his run on the character with this year’s No Way Home before making a lateral move to take control of Marvel Studios’ Fantastic Four franchise. This means that, should Tom Holland‘s Peter Parker be renewed for a second trilogy, the series will require a brand new supervisor. Luckily, there is no shortage of hungry talent in Hollywood that would be perfect to helm one of the world’s most profitable intellectual properties. I’ve taken the liberty of combing through the endless list of names to present you with five that I think have a shot at keeping things interesting.

    Rick Famuyiwa

Let’s talk about Dope. The 2015 indie hit is a coming-of-age tale about an intelligent, nerdy kid thrust into a bigger, more dangerous world than he ever intended to join. Doesn’t it sound familiar? It was all pulled off with softhearted, fast-paced brilliance by the maestro Rick Famuyiwa, who is perhaps my top pick to direct the next entry in the Spider-Man mythos. If his name sounds familiar to all the geeks out there, it’s because he’s spent the past couple of years directing acclaimed episodes of The Mandalorian. His work shows his good relationship with Disney and his adeptness at mixing big-budget action with tender personal moments. Famuyiwa‘s early projects, like Brown Sugar, prove he can handle Peter’s romantic personal life, and the brief time he was hired to direct Warner Bros.’ The Flash gave the world a tease at how committed he could be to bringing a comic adaptation to life.

    Edgar Wright

Maybe the fan-favorite pick to helm the next generation of Spider-Man. It makes so much sense that I barely feel the need to elaborate. Edgar Wright makes crowd-pleasing movies that are fast, fun, and colorful. His protagonists are typically quirky, with skill and a heart of gold. All in all, Wright‘s sensibilities feel tailor-made for the realm of Peter Parker, and comic purists would be pleased to know the guy who ripped Scott Pilgrim vs. The World straight off the page was in charge of bringing Spidey into adulthood. He has worked with Marvel Studios in the past, and while it didn’t end on the best of terms, it seems that hatchet got buried some time ago.

    Zoe Lister-Jones

You may best know Zoe Lister-Jones for her work in front of the television camera. She had a recurring role on New Girl and Life in Pieces. Yet, some of her best work in the industry might have happened in the director’s chair. Lister-Jones entered the scene with an underrated masterpiece, Band Aid, which focused on a married couple who use music as a form of couple’s therapy. More recently, she produced How It Ends, wherein a woman tries coming to terms with herself before the world ends.

If you didn’t pick up on it, there’s a theme in her body of work. She’s obsessed with discussing the human condition, and it’s the kind of obsession any director needs to have if they’re going to get to the heart of Spider-Man correctly. She might not have a gigantic resume, but Marvel loves to hire up-and-coming indie filmmakers with a good pitch and a better passion.

    Justin Lin

Justin Lin is the unsung hero of the modern blockbuster. This is the man who made the Fast & Furious franchise a global sensation and reminded audiences that a big-budget Star Trek film could be both beautiful and thought-provoking. As ridiculous as some of Lin‘s projects can be, there are few directors working today that manage to produce such outrageous action scenes while keeping the idea of love and family so central to their story. Many people forget that the Taiwanese filmmaker also has a background in acclaimed television. He directed the famous paintball episode of Community and episodes of the Emmy-winning True Detective. His range alone, with experience in both low-budget and big-budget comedy, action, and drama, is enough to justify a Spidey nod from Marvel Studios.

    Rob McElhenney

At first, it may sound like a reach, but hear me out. Rob McElhenney has never directed a film before, but he has produced some of the last decade’s best episodes of television history. Everyone knows he co-created America’s finest comedy series, It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia, but fewer people seem to know about his work on the AppleTV+ show Mythic Quest. There, McElhenney has directed what could be equated to four nearly-perfect short films, handling topics like the downfall of marriage, the growth of man, and the brutal COVID-19 pandemic with grace and understanding. If Marvel Studios and Sony wanted to go outside the box with their pick to bring Peter Parker’s college years to life, they could do a lot worse than McElhenney.

  • Jake Johnson Confirms Return For ‘INTO THE SPIDER-VERSE 2’

Jake Johnson Confirms Return For ‘INTO THE SPIDER-VERSE 2’

It seems the sequel to Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse will be getting one of it’s biggest stars back. During a recent video interview with The Movie Dweeb, actor Jake Johnson confirmed that he is currently working on a deal to return for the highly anticipated sequel. After spending much of the interview discussing his newest release, Ride the Eagle, the New Girl breakout revealed his immense excitement to continue voicing Peter B. Parker. Johnson noted the open-ended nature of his character’s ending in the first film, and stated he couldn’t wait to see where the writers take his version of Spider-Man from there.

The Spider-Verse sequel is set to be directed by the trio of Joaquim Dos Santos, Kemp Powers, and Justin K. Thompson. They will create the film from a script by David Callaham, Phil Lord, and Christopher Miller. While the news of Johnson’s return feels obvious, it wasn’t previously confirmed he would be back alongside fellow leads Shameik Moore and Hailee Steinfeld, as well as franchise newcomer Issa Rae, who will bring the character of Jessica Drew to life. Despite the comedian’s claims of an “open-ended” finale for Peter B. Parker, it did feel like the character’s story had gone full circle by the time the credits rolled. It’s good to know this particular Peter Parker variant, known for his big tummy and bigger personality, will be back to help save the day again next year. The tentatively-titled Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse 2 will drop in theaters on October 7, 2022.
