    EXCLUSIVE: Tara Strong Hasn’t Heard Back Yet for ‘Loki’ Season 2

    There are many voice actors out there that have made quite the name for themselves within the industry. Among them is Tara Strong, who may be one of the most popular voice actresses working today, with roles in series like Teen Titans, Ben 10, and Powerpuff Girls, she’s become an iconic and instantly recognizable voice. She recently made her MCU debut in Loki, one of Marvel Studios’ first ventures into Disney+. The voice actress took on the role of Miss Minutes, the official mascot of the Time Variance Authority. We recently had the chance to talk with Strong, and just had to ask about a possible return as Minutes in the upcoming second season of Loki.

    Oh, I hope so. You know, Kate Herron, who directed it, said she would like to do like a feature based on her [Miss Minutes] on Twitter, and im like: “Oh, I’m in for that!”. I haven’t been notified yet but I certainly hope so and the fans seem to have embraced her and fallen in love with her. So, I feel pretty good about that and I would definitely come back and reprise that role if asked.

    It would certainly be a welcome surprise to see Strong return in the second season of Loki, and with what seems to be an entirely new TVA, it seems likely Miss Minutes is a definite return. For those looking to see a bit more of Tara Strong’s work, the first and second seasons of Crossing Swords are currently streaming on Hulu.

    With Episode 4 ‘Partners, Am I Right?’ Marvel Studios’ Hawkeye is now moving into its third act. Unlike previous episodes where we could find entire sequences taken straight out of the Matt Fraction and David Aja’s Hawkeye comic run (introducing Lucky in episode 1Clint and the Tracksuit Mafia in episode 2the car chase and trick arrows in episode 3), these references were now a bit more subdued.

    Flipping the script
    Going back to the trick arrows theme that we focused on last week, we got a reference showing us how, at times, the series has managed to flip the script on the comic run. There’s a small gag in issue #3 that starts off with Clint praising the qualities of his Boomerang Arrows. Kate, on the other hand, doesn’t really see the point or how they could ever come in handy on the field. Later on while facing the Tracksuit Mafia, who have a machine gun to Clint’s head, Kate is asked not to engage and to ditch the arrow she has pointed at the Bro who has Clint. She complies, shooting it way above the Mafia Bro’s head, only for the arrow to come back and hit him in the back of the head, thus saving Clint. ‘Boomerang Arrow. It comes back to you in the end.”

    In the show that initial discussion goes the other way around. Boomerang Arrows aren’t a real thing but Kate kinda wishes they were. Clint, as Kate did in the comic run, doesn’t really see the appeal of having an arrow you shot coming back to bite you in the ass. Kate then mentions there might have a little bit of dodging involved. This might still be setting up a payoff down the line when a Boomerang Arrow is actually used in action but, for now, it serves as an example of how the series is approaching the Clint / Kate dynamic differently than the comic run. In the books, Kate was always the more level-headed of the two. Clint, a single guy living alone in NYC struggled to get his shit together and was often given crap about not doing the right thing. As we’ve been watching in the tv show, things are very differently portrayed.

    This might be due to a number of factors with one being that, with the show being used to introduce Kate Bishop to the world, you still need to allow the character to have enough room to grow in upcoming projects. There would be no point in presenting Kate in the place you want her to be in five years from now. Just think of the amount of development you’d have to skip over. At the same time, the series, unlike the comic run, had to deal with preestablished Clint Barton’s background, both in terms of his family life and his past avenging. Even if the comic approach of making the young protégé being the sane one was a welcomed one, both the past and future of the MCU strongly benefit from approaching the Barton / Bishop relationship the way the show does.

    LARPers helping out
    In a pretty good self-aware and self-deprecating bit of storytelling, we got introduced to the LARPers in episode 2, ‘Hide and Seek’. Episode four brought them back in a more active role, making them a part of Clint and Kate’s.. guild? If there’s one thing that the Tracksuit Mafia has over our heroes is strength in numbers and the LARPers could just be the missing pieces in order to level the playing field in the upcoming episodes.

    The comic run didn’t feature these characters but still managed to deliver Clint and Kate the help they needed by having Barton’s neighbors step up and help out. Throughout the series, we get to see Clint, hesitantly at first, connect with his neighbors to the point where their well-being becomes as important to him as his own. He helps one of them (Grills, sound familiar?) reconnect with his dad and even babysits Simone’s kids. At the end of the series, as the Tracksuits prepare one final attack on their building, everybody plays a part in defeating them, some with more success than others.

    In a show that has been so much about family, be it through Clint’s point of view (where you value what you have) or through Kate’s (where she learns that there’s family to be found outside the typical idyllic entity) the development of a family-type unit with the help of LARPers found along the way seems like a welcomed prospect for both characters.

    REVIEW: ‘Wheel of Time’ Episode 1×6, “The Flame of Tar Valon”

    The sixth episode of Wheel of Time takes its time to move the story forward, but ultimately takes viewers back a bit. It’s a slower episode when comparing it to the rest of the season. However, “The Flame of Tar Valon” does a great job at setting up the remaining two episodes of the season.

    The latest episode sees the Aes Sedai go before the Amyrlin Seat, Siuan Sanche (played by Sophie Okonedo). They – Moiraine Damodred, Liandrin Guirale, and Alanna Mosvani – have been called to answer for their disobedience regarding the False Dragon. The Aes Sedai were to bring him to the White Tower to receive a fair trial courtesy of the Amyrlin Seat. Unfortunately, though, following his powerful attack on the Aes Sedai, which resulted in the death of one of their fellow sisters, the women opted to gentle him, knowing they weren’t powerful enough to control him during the journey to the White Tower.

    While the blame for the decision falls upon Liandrin, who became their leader upon the death of Kerene, she isn’t willing to go down alone. As she stands before the Amyrlin Seat, Liandrin tells of Moiraine and her secretive missions, which the blue Aes Sedai try their best to defend. When questioned by the Amyrlin Seat, Moiraine refuses to divulge what she has been up to outside of the White Tower for the past few years, fearing what would happen if the others discovered she’d gone in search of the Dragon Reborn. So, she opts to receive punishment for not being forthright with the Amrylin Seat.

    It’s a terrifying moment that is quickly resolved as we soon learn Moiraine is keeping more secrets than merely the Dragon Reborn. Her lover also happens to be the Amyrlin Seat, Siuan Sanche, who knows of her mission to locate the Dragon Reborn. In the brief moments we see of just Rosamund Pike and Okonedo, it’s evident the two women work tremendously well playing off of each other. Pike has been delivering powerhouse performances all season and Okonedo nearly gives her a run for her money this time around. They’re both such commanding presences on screen, it’s part of what makes this episode so strong.

    This episode also (finally) brings back our crew from the Two Rivers. Moiraine first comes upon Rand and Mat, with the latter continuing to suffer due to the hold of the darkness. After discovering the dagger he stole from Shadar Logoth, she uses the One Power to free him of its hold and return the darkness to the dagger. However, she warns Rand should Mat touch the dagger again, she isn’t sure she’ll be able to save him as the darkness was feeding on what was already inside of him from the beginning. It’s a moment that gives viewers a new look at Mat’s character.

    Moiraine is later brought to Egwene and Perrin, who have finally made it to the White Tower. Egwene tells of the torture they endured at the hands of the White Cloaks – more specifically, Captain Eamon Valda, who has killed numerous Aes Sedai. She explains Perrin’s link to the wolves and how his eyes turned a golden color before they broke free of Valda, a surprise to Moiraine who still isn’t sure who the Dragon Reborn is of the group. Egwene then returns the rings of her sisters killed by Valda. She hides that she’s already seen Rand and Mat, trying to keep them separate for the time being, knowing she’s able to go back before the Amyrlin Seat for her punishment.

    Unsurprisingly, with Moiraine having asked Siuan to banish her, the Amyrlin Seat does just that. It’s a surprise to the fellow Aes Sedai, but a necessary step for Moiraine to get the others to the prison of the Dark One. The episode ultimately ends with the group coming together once again in front of a Ways gate, where Moiraine opens the gate to allow them to travel to the Eye of the World, where the Dark One is imprisoned. This is where they’ll finally find out who the Dragon Reborn is while, hopefully, not losing any lives in the process. While Mat opts to stay behind, the others follow Moiraine into the gate knowing there are no guarantees of what is to come upon crossing the gate.

    “The Flame of Tar Valon” is small in scale, with the story mostly taking place within the White Tower, but it’s a key part of what the final two episodes will unleash. There are no battle scenes here. This is an episode of truths, secrets, and hope. It’s a slow watch, but it’s hard not to become excited about what it promises.

    There are some issues, of course. The CGI, in particular, can be a bit off-putting at the start of the episode. While trying to show the grand scale of the White Tower, the camera pans up to highlight the massive height of the tower. Unfortunately, though, the image looks off, which takes away from some of the beauty. Thankfully, this is the only negative to the show’s visuals, because the set pieces and landscapes continue to be remarkable, as does the costuming. The amount of detail put into everything is absolutely stunning and helps to sell this epic fantasy tale.

    With two episodes left, though, Wheel of Time has a lot of story left to tell and it remains unclear just how well the series will successfully wrap up such a huge first season.

    Disney+ Spain Update Indicates ‘Moon Knight’ Will Be Marvel’s First Streaming Release of 2022

    Marvel Studios is closing out its first year of live-action streaming content. While the series had some uneven moments, it’s hard to argue that the studio’s first foray into the world of streaming series wasn’t successful. WandaVision, The Falcon and The Winter Solider and Loki all featured great character work, introduced new characters and opened the door to new corners of the MCU. The studio’s final effort in year one, Hawkeye, has been similarly well-received and will close out the year with a Kingpin-sized bang.

    Of course even as we’re still getting great content in 2021, fans are eagerly anticipating Marvel’s 2022 slate of streaming series. Ms. Marvel, Moon Knight and She-Hulk are all sure things for the service as well as a Werewolf By Night project that could be the studio’s first made-for-Disney+ movie and The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special. Even with all that going on, it’s possible that Secret Invasion could find a spot on the streaming service near the end of 2022 as well.

    The studio has, however, been tight-lipped about WHEN we can expect which series, with Ms. Marvel being the only one to which they’ve assigned a time frame. While we wait on Disney’s 2022 press kit, an update by Disney+ Spain, shared on Twitter by Quid Vacuo, looks to give a little more insight on what to expect when.

    The update, emailed to press yesterday, lists the three Marvel Studios projects in the order indicated above, meaning it’s likely that that the Oscar Isaac-led series should stream first, likely shortly after The Book of Boba Fett completes its run. While it is an official communication, it’s important to remember that the 2021 press preview kit indicated that Ms. Marvel would not only stream in 2021, but also stream before Hawkeye. Things can and do change all the time, a lesson fans have had to learn time and time again over the past 2 years.

    Should this potential schedule hold, fans would have 3 streaming series, spanning 22 episodes (She-Hulk is said to have a 10-episode run) between February and September. Marvel Studios also has films slated for May (Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness), July (Thor: Love and Thunder) and November (Black Panther: Wakanda Forever), the two holiday-themed events as stated above and a second season of What If…?, meaning fans have plenty of content to consume in 2022.

    RUMOR: Grogu to Appear in ‘The Book of Boba Fett’

    Lucasfilm’s next Star Wars streaming series, The Book of Boba Fett, will kick off later this month and has already generated a considerable amount of buzz. The series will follow Fett attempt to take over the criminal empire once headed by Jabba the Hutt and looks like it’ll have room for plenty of appearances by other interesting characters, old and new. According to a new rumor, one such character might be a fan favorite who could owe Fett a favor.

    SWNN (via our good friend at Bespin Bulletin) claims that Jedi-in-training Grogu will make an appearance in The Book of Boba Fett. The origin of the claim stem from t-shirts made for a visual effects crew that worked on the series, seen below. SWNN reported they then checked with sources and were able to confirm Grogu’s appearance in the series.

    Grogu joins a long list of characters from The Mandalorian who are rumored to appear in the new series. Grogu’s caretaker, Din Djarrin, his friend Greef Karga, for Imp Miggs Mayfield and the man who once wore Fett’s armor, Cobb Vanth, have been said to be in the show at one time or another. There are also plenty of rumors about other bounty hunters and criminals from the Star Wars Universe popping up in the series, all of whom might look to do more than chew the fat with Fett.

    The Book of Boba Fett‘s 7-episode run kicks off December 29th on Disney Plus.

    What ‘Cowboy Bebop’s Cancelation Means for Netflix’s ‘One Piece’

    As many might’ve noticed, we’ve covered Cowboy Bebop and Tomorrow Studios’ next project, One Piece, quite extensively. The studio is tackling some of the most popular IPs and bringing them to life in a new format. Netflix is no stranger to it with their attempts at Death Note and the upcoming Avatar: The Last Airbender series. The future seemed too bright with the release of Bebop‘s release, but barely a month after its release, the series was canceled by Netflix. Of course, it opens up the question, what does it mean for the future of Netflix’s adaptation wave and, especially, Tomorrow Studio’s next project.

    Short term, this won’t have any effect on any upcoming projects. It’ll certainly shake things up and there will be fears instilled that series with seasons mapped out will suffer a similar fate. One Piece‘s manga spans 1,000+ chapters with no true ending in sight as of yet. So, they’ll manage to map out seasons of content as they explore different parts of the Grand Line. Yet, the challenge is that the series has to get over the Red Line after the first season explores the East Blue.

    That’s where the uncertainty lies. Even Cowboy Bebop ended on a cliffhanger that’ll remain unresolved with the arrival of Ed. There were plans to build upon what the season has offered. So, it means that even if the creatives behind the series have big plans, it’s not a confirmation that it’ll continue with a full adaptation. Yet, it’s understandable as Netflix puts a lot of value into their productions and has very specific expectations going in. If a product is expensive, they’ll try to get the most viewership numbers out of it.

    No matter what your opinion is on the live-action Bebop series is, it’s very likely that the critical reception didn’t play directly into its cancelation. It simply didn’t get the audience that Netflix expected due to the popularity of the IP, the lack of word-of-mouth and positive buzz surrounding the series didn’t add any favors. It may partly be due to a very late marketing campaign with official trailers not releasing until long after its release date announcement. There is also the fact that the franchise may not have a broad of an appeal as one would think considering its standing in specific circles.

    As the adaptation moved further away from its roots, choosing a serialized drama format over the bounty-of-the-week structure, it struck a nerve with fans in a negative way. The fact it tries to balance “both” aspects may also have also lost its appeal for viewers going through the ten-episode run. That one point might be One Piece‘s biggest advantage. Unlike Cowboy Bebop, the series was already made with serialization in mind. While the East Blue didn’t include many references to later storylines, the team will likely dip their toes into foreshadowing more and they have quite a bit more to play with.

    Luffy’s eventual reunion with Shanks and his brother, who are making waves out in the Grand Line. The possibility of different and creative Devil Fruit abilities that come in countless varieties. Then there’s the history that led to Arlong’s actions and how the Marines play into this world. The dangers of the Grand line are heavily hinted at through Don Krieg during Baratie.

    If they hide away enough details and hint at future storylines, may it be as small as Germa 66 posters in the background, there is quite a bit more build-up to the future of the franchise. Most of Cowboy Bebop‘s storyline focused on his time with the Syndicate that technically was mostly resolved outside of a left-field twist in the finale. We learn very little about the world outside of its underworld and our main casts’ backstories. One Piece, however, is all about world-building and letting its characters set out on a voyage to explore every corner of it.

    There are mysteries that still haven’t been answered and certainly something that’ll grab people’s attention. Many fans are still discussing the mysteries of the weapons and the Void Century. I would dare say it’s a mystery on the same level as John Snow’s heritage that’ll have newcomers guessing what it may potentially be about and even visit the manga or anime adaptations to find out more. Cowboy Bebop is more straightforward in its approach, as there isn’t much to theorize. Ed’s arrival at the end doesn’t foreshadow any plotline, but rather gives fans the character’s long-awaited arrival.

    Plus, there’s one last effect that may have also become a hurdle for new viewers to the anime adaptation. While the original 90s anime was a new benchmark within the industry, it was THE entry that defined future additions to the genre. Sadly, as time went by, we’ve seen plenty of entries that shared similar visual styles, storytelling concepts, and more. So, Cowboy Bebop also isn’t as new as it once was and the live-action adaptation may have suffered as a result.

    One Piece, on the other hand, might seem like a pirate story similar to Disney’s Pirates of the Carribbean, there aren’t many “pirate” elements in the story. Once viewers meet the Straw Hat pirates and the wacky world they live in, the unique aspect of the show might draw in viewers that thought they were just going to see something in the vein of Black Sails or the Pirates franchise. One Piece is still even unique among other Shonen series and that may be to its advantage once it premieres on Netflix.

    New ‘Hawkeye Funko Pops Unveiled for Kate and Clint Revealed

    Always wanted to get into the Christmas spirit with the perfect ugly sweaters? So did Kate Bishop and Clint Barton did in the latest episode of Hawkeye. While one would expect a Yelena Belova-inspired Funko given her return at the end of the episode, but Funko was embracing the Christmas spirit and shared two new Funkos of our favorite new duo in their Holiday outfits, as they took some time to unwind. And yes, Clint even has his Grumpy Cat print on the sweater.

    The designs are great, but, strangely, they wouldn’t want to bank on the return of a popular character from Black Widow. Her new suit probably won’t appear again with the iconic Sam Fisher-inspired look, as teased by some of the other trailers. So, they might add one in a more iconic look for the character later on. Of course, they might also release multiple sets this time around, and are keeping it alongside another new reveal with a certain “uncle.” Interestingly, Kate has the most amount of Funko Pops in the collection, but given the focus, she gets in the series it makes sense she’ll get highlighted quite a bit. Plus, she goes through the most looks in the series.

    Connecting Imaginary Dots: ‘Reservation Dogs’ Sydney Freeland Might be a Director on ‘Echo’

    Hollywood newcomer Alaqua Cox has made a big impression with her work on the latest Disney+ streaming series, HawkeyeCox, a Deaf, Native American amputee, impressed Marvel Studios execs so much during filming that they quickly moved to create a spinoff series centered on the character. Her character, Maya Lopez, has ties to both Wilson Fisk and Matt Murdock, two characters that are expected to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Sacred Timeline next week. She also has ties to Moon Knight, and the Avengers and could easily become a mainstay in the next 5-10 years of Marvel’s Cinematic Universe.

    The spinoff series, Echo, is expected to film this coming Spring and already has an impressive writers’ room, led by Better Call Saul scribe Marion Dayre. That room is replete with both Deaf and Native American writers. The incredible talent includes Rebecca Roanhorse, Bobby Wilson, Shoshannah Stern, and Josh Feldman. While Dayre was kind enough to share with us the talents who would be helping her craft Echo’s journey in the MCU, what she didn’t share was who might be behind the camera. As all of you reading this certainly know, when we connect the imaginary dots, we are simply speculating, but at this point in time, it seems safe to speculate that we may have identified one of the directors of the upcoming Marvel Studios Disney Plus streaming series Echo.

    At this point, there is enough evidence to make a reasonable claim that Sydney Freeland will direct one or even all of the episodes of Echo. As you can see, Freeland is following Cox, Dayre, Roanhorse, and Bobby Wilson, who like the others above was named by Dayre as a writer. An abundance of data points like this cannot be considered confirmation, but it can absolutely fuel the speculation that she could be working on the project.

    And she is EXACTLY the type of talent Marvel Studios should be trying to land for a project of this magnitude. Freeland, a transgender Navajo/Scotch, won two awards at the 2014 American Indian Film Festival for Drunktown’s Finest, recently directed two episodes of Taika Waititi’s FX series, Reservation Dogs, which follows a group of indigenous teens for which Wilson also worked. She has also directed episodes of Grey’s Anatomy, P-Valley, Fear the Walking Dead, and Rutherford Falls. Coincidentally, Zahn McClarnon, who memorably plays Maya’s dad, Willie Lopez, in Hawkeye also starred in Reservation Dogs.

    Freeland is uniquely poised to helm one or all episodes of Echo. She is a director whose career trajectory is ascending and fulfills Marvel Studios’ continued efforts to ensure diverse perspectives are behind their projects. Only in the very recent past has Echo had her own comic series, so it’s likely that her Marvel Studios’ series would be fairly original, giving Freeland free reign to create both a unique backstory for the character and the new, original characters that will surround her. We’ll have to wait to see how her character’s arc on Hawkeye concludes, but Cox’s Echo is likely being set up to play a big part in the future of the MCU.

    Hawkeye has a lot going for it. Not only do we get a great performance by Hailee Steinfeld as the newly introduced hero Kate Bishop, but Jeremy Renner gets to dive deep into what makes Clint Barton tick. Of course, there’s also the appearance of Alaqua Cox‘s Echo who’ll get her series later down the line. In the third episode, we got the big tease of a man she only refers to as “uncle” and are still left with that dangling thread to this day. Luckily, director Bert of Bert and Bertie teased that we won’t have to wait “for too long” until we find out who it is.

    She highlights in an interview with ComicBook.com’s Adam Barnhardt that Marvel’s team “are experts” when it comes to teasing elements in their various series. We’ve gotten quite a few teases and major revelations throughout their series, such as Loki offering our first look at Jonathan Majors‘ take on Kang. Hawkeye’s “uncle” mystery might be one of the biggest and we won’t be left hanging.

    It’s certainly a tall order, but if it truly turns out to be Kingpin it’ll get a lot of attention. Especially if that short giggle we heard is indeed Vincent D’Onofrio‘s return as the character since the Netflix series. His return, alongside another long hinted at return from the same franchise, might start a new era for the MCU moving forward and we can’t wait to witness it.
