  • New ‘Hawkeye’ TV Spot Provides a First Look at The Clown

New ‘Hawkeye’ TV Spot Provides a First Look at The Clown

Marvel Studios Hawkeye will be streaming on Disney Plus in just over a month and while we’ve seen a trailer and some other spots, there are still some pretty secrets yet to be revealed, including the faces of the big bads the Hawkeyes will go up against in the series. Sure, we’ve seen the Tracksuits, but they’re mostly there to beat up and provide comic relief; however, a new TV spot has given us our first look at one of the projects real threats alongside a surprising partner.

The spot reveals the first look at Fra Fee‘s Kazimierz Kazimierczak, aka the Clown, alongside Alqua Cox‘s Maya Lopez. While teasers and footage can be edited to trick fans, it seems clear Lopez and Kazi are working together and, when the series streams beginning November 24th, it’ll be interesting to see exactly who the duo are working for since they both have comic book ties to Wilson Fisk, who is heavily (get it) rumored to appear in the series.

Fee doesn’t look too clown like in the new footage, nor does Lopez look very Echo-y, but they both look to be out to cause someone some harm. We know Echo is likely to come around and join the good guys before moving on to her own series, but it seems far less likely The Clown will have a similar transformation.

The first two episodes of Hawkeye will stream on Disney Plus on November 24th.

  • ‘What If…?’ Zombie Captain America Spotted at Avengers Campus

‘What If…?’ Zombie Captain America Spotted at Avengers Campus

Here’s a fun surprise. Marvel Studios has been promoting their various films and Disney+ series through the Avengers Campus at Disneyland Resort. Throughout Loki‘s run on the streaming service, you could spot the character alongside some TVA agents. With each new episode, his costume would continue to change. It created a nice synergy to cross-promote the show and Disneyland attraction. We heard very little about any appearances for their first animated project What If…? but it seems they just waited for the right opportunity. Twitter user @danyeal shared a video from the park as a zombified Captain America makes his debut.

    https://twitter.com/danyeal/status/1449956315682406401

The costume looks amazing and highlights that Marvel Studios might see the potential in the Zombie concept. It makes sense they’d kick it off with Captain America, as he was the main advertised character. Plus, while it was odd they didn’t include it during What If…?‘s release window, revealing the zombified versions of our favorite heroes during Halloween is a perfect idea. Who knows if we get others joining Captain America in the near future.

It’s also crazy to think how they managed to make a classic R-rated concept work so well in a family-friendly environment. Not just that, it also shows how well the concept can get translated into live-action. So, if they do manage to expand the concept in the MCU beyond just an animated episode, here’s a proof of concept that they can make the jump to live-action in a film or series. Of course, we might not get the usual bloody action like in other zombie movies, but that’s not always necessary to tell a compelling story.

  • New She-Hulk Comic Launching in January Ahead of Disney Plus Series

New She-Hulk Comic Launching in January Ahead of Disney Plus Series

Marvel Entertainment loves synergy. With Kevin Feige now the CCO of Marvel Entertainment, that means The-One-Above-All not only oversees Marvel Studios, but also Marvel Comics and can make sure the two departments are coordinating with peak synergy. In this case, that means that Marvel Comics will be launching a new She-Hulk series early next year to get the character back in the limelight ahead of the Disney Plus streaming series also slated for 2022.

Jennifer Walters has served as an Avenger in Jason Aaron’s 49-issue run on the team book and her adventures with Earth’s Mightiest Heroes have continued what has been a challenging period for the characters since she was killed by Thanos in 2016’s Civil War II. Now writer Rainbow Rowell and artist Roge Antonio will put Jennifer at the center of her own title for the first time since Mariko Tamaki’s 2016 Hulk series when She-Hulk #1 hits your LCS January 12th. The new series will see Jen “embark on a journey that heralds back to her fan-favorite solo adventures of the past while embracing a fresh new future for the character.”

Rowell, who has been writing Runaways for Marvel since 2017, is excited to put her spin on the longtime fan favorite:

She-Hulk is the best of the best. She’s smart, she’s funny—and she’s really and truly heroic (all that and she has the best hair in comics). Jen has always been at the top of my Marvel wishlist, and I’m thrilled to be writing her next chapter.

The series will take Walters back to the courtroom and into the lives of some prior acquaintances, both friend and foe with last page of the first issue taking Jen “down a road she’s never traveled that will shake up her life and possibly the whole Marvel universe.

  • RUMOR: ‘Ms. Marvel’ May Release in June-July 2022 on Disney+

RUMOR: ‘Ms. Marvel’ May Release in June-July 2022 on Disney+

There’s been quite a mystery surrounding when we’ll see the Ms. Marvel series. It was originally announced for a 2021 release back in Disney’s Investors Day, but as the year went on it seemed more and more unlikely. Once Hawkeye got a November release date, it seemed clear that young superheroine wouldn’t premiere in the MCU until next year. The first rumors hinted at a potential release in February, but we’re still waiting for any official word. Going by a posting by one of the Disney+ series’ actors, it may release much later than we might’ve expected.

Actor Mohan Kapur, who plays Kamala Khan’s father Yusuf, took to Twitter and in response to a question when Ms. Marvel would release pointed out around June or July. It’s quite a bit later than we initially expected if true, especially if it was eyeing a release this year. We also have to take it with a grain of salt, as it’s uncertain how much information is shared with the actors on when the Disney+ show will release.

    https://twitter.com/mohankapur/status/1449806679164526594?s=20

There’s a good chance that if this turns out to be true, they’d try to tie the show into the upcoming The Marvels film. Perhaps the delay was planned around that film’s release, as it’ll premiere on November 11th, 2022. So, they’d shorten the release window between projects that have a connecting storyline. Yet, one could argue that it wouldn’t make sense, especially if you consider that Monica Rambeau will also have a role. We have no idea when she’ll return outside of the film and her story was set up in January’s WandaVision. Perhaps Disney+ Day might offer a clearer picture of when we can expect Ms. Marvel.

  • Alaqua Cox Confirms MCU’s Echo Will Have Her Comic Powers

Alaqua Cox Confirms MCU’s Echo Will Have Her Comic Powers

Marvel Studios’ streaming series Hawkeye is set to introduce several major new characters to the MCU when it hits Disney Plus next month. While much of the buzz before the series went into production centered on whether or not Hailee Steinfeld would sign on as Kate Bishop, newcomer Alaqua Cox quickly came into the spotlight when it was announced that her character, Maya Lopez, would have her spinoff series.

Lopez, better known as Echo to comic readers, like Cox, may not have been a household name, but her performance in Hawkeye filled Marvel Studios with enough confidence to greenlight an Echo series just as the character has risen to prominence in the comics. Now the host of the Phoenix Force, Echo is one of the most powerful entities in the Marvel Universe; however, before her run-in with the Ravager of Worlds, Echo was already an elite martial artist, able to stand toe-to-toe with Daredevil. Using her “photographic reflexes”, Echo has been able to perfectly emulate the fighting techniques of anyone she’s watched, making her more than a match for most opponents.

While it was originally unclear if Marvel Studios would adapt Echo’s unique gifts, Cox seems to have indicated they will in a recent interview with People Magazine:

Maya is a bada– woman. She can pick up fighting moves after watching it one time

    Alaqua Cox

So far we’ve only seen one quick look at Echo in the promotional footage for Hawkeye which means we’re all in for a treat when she gets involved in the action. In the comics, she was able to prepare to fight her opponents by watching footage of their past rumbles; in a time when any and everything is recorded and available on the internet, Echo could quickly and easily prepare for just about any opponent. It’ll be fun to see how Marvel Studios interprets her abilities to live-action and who takes the first beating at her hands Hawkeye begins streaming on November 24th on Disney Plus with a two-episode premiere.

  • Alaqua Cox Talks Casting And Representation in ‘HAWKEYE’

Alaqua Cox Talks Casting And Representation in ‘HAWKEYE’

Alaqua Cox will soon make her MCU debut as Echo in Hawkeye and her spin-off show is looking like it will go into production early next year. The first-time actress will also be making her on-screen debut, so we are just beginning to learn a bit more about her. She was recently selected as one of People magazine’s One to Watch 2021 feature indicating what a special talent Marvel Studios have found themselves. In the interview she not only mentions how serendipitously she came across the casting call but also how important the role is for diverse representation on-screen:

I had no acting experience, I was only involved in one school play in high school, but I was a background actor. [My friends] saw the casting call looking for a Native American actress and female deaf actress. It just matched so perfectly, so I decided to go for it. I had never seen anybody on the screen that maybe looked like me … deaf, an amputee.

Cox who is Native American and grew up on the Menominee Indian Reservation in Wisconsin has been deaf her whole life, has had a right lower leg amputation and was working at a factory before applying for the role. It’s clear that there aren’t many on-screen characters with those kinds of backgrounds, especially in big-budget studio projects, so she also spoke about the impact of playing Echo has had even before she has debuted:

My dad actually cried, and it is rare to see my dad cry. My mom got the champagne — everybody was so excited. I just feel so overwhelmed by support and love. It’s crazy how much my life has already changed because I was a college dropout. I worked at a factory. I’m so excited to show people who I am and what I can do, what anybody can do.

As a first-time actress, and like her character Cox is also learning a lot as she goes. She makes reference to this when talking about enjoying working with Hawkeye himself Jeremy Renner:

I think he’s one of the coolest guys. I learned a lot from him.

Echo is expected to have Native American representation in the writers’ room, potentially including Bobby Wilson, who has worked on Rutherford Falls and Reservation Dogs, both shows with Native American representation in cast and crew. It’s exciting, too, for deaf representation that the casting call Cox shared on Instagram suggested that some of the cast will be deaf with fluency in ASL being a requirement. All in all, Cox’s debut in Hawkeye and the spin-off Echo look set to be boundary-pushing moments for representation in the MCU.

  • Oscar Isaac Calls ‘Moon Knight the Biggest Challenge of His Career

Oscar Isaac Calls ‘Moon Knight the Biggest Challenge of His Career

Moon Knight will explore a new corner of Marvel Studios’ ever-expanding franchise. The story of a mercenary that lost his mind and believes he is possessed by the Egyptian god Khonshu promises a thrill ride unlike any other in the franchise. Plus, he has close ties to the supernatural horror corner of Marvel, which opens up a lot of new venues for the media franchise. Oscar Isaac will take on the role of Marc Spector and explore a different kind of Marvel hero. It looks like he also had quite the voice in bringing this character to life.

In an interview with Variety’s Awards Circuit Podcast, the actor discussed his work in the industry with the upcoming films The Card Counter, Scenes from a Marriage, and Dune. Of course, they also used the chance to ask him some questions about his work on the Disney+ series. Luckily, he did offer some insight and shared how his work experience was with Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige.

Speaking with Kevin [Feige], I told him I’m going to come in with these big ideas, and if you don’t like them, that’s fair. And immediately, we saw it all. I found so much room to do things that I’ve never done before and had been curious about and wanting to do. I could not wait to get to set, and it was the biggest workload I’ve ever had in my career and most challenging; by the sheer amount of stuff we had to do in eight months, and even yet, I couldn’t wait to get to set and work.

    Oscar Isaac

The old saying does state that if you do what you love you’ll never have to work a day in your life. Sadly, he doesn’t go into detail about what ideas he was able to implement throughout the project’s development but it’s always promising to know he spearheaded the project. It shows a commitment to the character and series, which hopefully opens up to many more appearances in the future. He may have also had a say in the addition of Egyptian director Mohamed Diab, who’ll bring a unique vision to the Marvel franchise. Here’s hoping Disney+ Day might offer a glimpse at the series.

  • RUMOR: ‘The Mandalorian’, ‘Secret Invasion’ and Many More Productions to Shut Down for 90 Days Due to IATSE Strike

RUMOR: ‘The Mandalorian’, ‘Secret Invasion’ and Many More Productions to Shut Down for 90 Days Due to IATSE Strike

Just yesterday, reports were going around about a potential IATSE Union strike to ensure reasonable expenses and breaks for crew members. It was hinted that they were going to go on strike Monday, but a new rumor might point to it taking place as of tomorrow. According to Star Wars Time, it seems that the production of The Mandalorian‘s third season will shut down alongside other Lucasfilm productions. It seems that the plans for the company are to close up shop for around 90 days with 60,000 film and TV workers affected. They do highlight that there is a slim chance they might avoid a potential shutdown, but the chances seem quite slim.

There are also rumblings surrounding Marvel projects eyeing a similar development. So, we can assume the same will happen with other projects like the currently filming The Last Of Us, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, or the recently started Secret Invasion. There’s also the uncertainty of how it may affect post-productions due to VFX departments and editors. The latter may fall into IATSE Local 700 of The Motion Picture Editors Guild. Star Wars Time highlights that their source at the time was unsure. So, the projects like Obi-Wan Kenobi, Andor, Hawkeye, Ms. Marvel, and other productions could also face delays. There’s also the question of projects that require reshoots within that 90-day window.

It’s an important step for the industry, as it faced many new challenges with the pandemic. We’ve seen discussion for fair compensation on many levels of Hollywood’s talent, such as Scarlet Johansson‘s ongoing feud with Disney over Black Widow. These actions ripple out to others and draw the attention of the industry to see how they may influence the future. We’ll surely keep a close eye on how it develops, but once the strikes happen we can expect quite a few delays of future releases moving forward.

  • New ‘Hawkeye’ Trailer Confirms Linda Cardellini’s Return

New ‘Hawkeye’ Trailer Confirms Linda Cardellini’s Return

Ever since the first trailer for Hawkeye dropped, fans noticed that someone important in Clint Barton’s family was missing. As he commits to keeping his new protégé Kate Bishop out of trouble, he ends up facing the challenge of getting home before Christmas. We see his kids but Linda Cardellini‘s Laura Barton was noticeably absent. Of course, it led to a lot of speculation that she may not get featured in the series, but Disney+ had other plans and the latest trailer finally confirmed her appearance.

    Image

The new trailer doesn’t reveal too much new, but it’s great to get a confirmation on her return. She likely won’t have a large role in the series, but might likely appear in the beginning and end. It’ll be interesting to explore their relationship as Jeremy Renner‘s Barton faces this new challenge. The earliest concept art teased Kate on the Barton farm some time ago, but it’s uncertain if the new direction of this Die Hard-inspired Disney+ series.

The upcoming series will explore Marvel Cinematic Universe’s street-level heroes. It seems like the most down-to-earth take on a story, especially with poor Clint getting beat up quite a bit in the trailer. It’ll join other Marvel Studios dramas with six episodes planned. The premiere will consist of two episodes, which is perfect for it to end ahead of The Book of Boba Fett‘s premiere in December. It’s going to be a busy fourth quarter ahead of us.

  • Samuel L. Jackson Begins Filming ‘SECRET INVASION’

Samuel L. Jackson Begins Filming ‘SECRET INVASION’

We haven’t hear much about Secret Invasion since last month’s report that Skrulls were hiding in London. Luckily, we finally have an update with the series lead now heading to the set. Although Samuel L. Jackson has been posting selfies of him and his cool t-shirts in London since August, up until this point he has used the hashtag ‘#themarvels’ with those photos. It hasn’t been until now that he has used ‘#secretinvasion’ on Instagram suggesting the beginning of his days on this set.

Secret Invasion will be Nick Fury’s 12th appearance in the MCU after he was last seen in the Spider-Man: Far From Home’s post-credit scene. Back then he was looking for his shoes after relaxing in front of a beach projection and telling everyone to “get back to work” while commanding a Skrull spaceship. With our recent reports on Kingsley Ben-Adir playing a villainous Skrull, it is intriguing to think that Nick Fury might be caught between his Skrull friend Talos and his evil brethren as they try to take over Earth.

It remains to be seen exactly what the mission of Fury’s Skrull spaceship was and how it will tie to Secret Invasion, but with cameras seemingly rolling on the limited series perhaps there’s an outside chance we might see some early footage at Disney+ Day on November 12th.
