  • ‘The Marvels’ and ‘Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania’ Swap Release Dates

‘The Marvels’ and ‘Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania’ Swap Release Dates

Two of Marvel Studios’ 2023 films have swapped dates. Captain Marvel sequel The Marvels was previously dated for release in February 2023, and will now release in July 2023. While the third film in the Ant-Man series, Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania which was previously set to release in July 2023 has moved up to February 2023.

Deadline reported that both films are moving along well but that the Paul Rudd film was a little further along in the process. Both films started filming last Summer in London, and are equally set to continue stories on a wider stage than the films before them. With Quantumania potentially having connections to Loki Season 2 through Kang, it will be interesting to see where they connect in the timeline. Similarly, it is expected that Secret Invasion will connect to The Marvels through the Kree-Skrull tensions. The Samuel L. Jackson-led series seems like it may have a more direct connection, where Kang’s variants are separate people. Yet it is unclear exactly when Secret Invasion will take place in relation to The Marvels. Lots still yet to be discovered.

In terms of the productions, it’s great to hear that both films are moving along nicely. Keeping the Marvel Studios dates means fans aren’t really losing anything. The swap of dates means there will be more for fans to discuss and theorize in relation to what happens when. It will be an exciting slate for 2023 for the Marvel Cinematic Universe regardless of the date swaps.

  • Michelle Pfeiffer Was Hesitant on Joining ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp’

Michelle Pfeiffer Was Hesitant on Joining ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp’

Ant-Man and the Wasp finally introduced us to Janet Van Dyne, and many were excited when we found out that it was Michelle Pfeiffer who had taken on the role. The icon was a perfect choice for the aged-up version of the character that got lost in the Quantum Realm long ago. In an interview with Jimmy Fallon, the actress revealed that she was quite hesitant about even joining the production, as she was only given a few details on her character by director Peyton Reed.

They’re very mysterious, and they’re very secretive, of course, with their storylines. It’s a little hard because I met with Peyton, and I knew a little bit about the character, but there was no script. You have to commit without actually having read anything.

    Michelle Pfeiffer

She highlights that one challenge is how often the scripts change throughout production. It is commonly done by the creative team as they updated elements and even as a measure to keep as many secrets as possible. Of course, it adds some hesitation to join the project.

It wouldn’t have mattered because it all changes anyway. You don’t really know what you’re getting into, and then you get a script right before you start shooting, and then it changes every day. And then you shoot the movie, and you wrap, and then it changes again.

    Michelle Pfeiffer

What needs to be pointed out though is that Pfeiffer also has been rather open on her almost backing out of every single film role she ever had. She confirmed that in an interview back in 2018, and it probably wasn’t much different here but she is luckily confirmed to return for Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.

  • David Dastmalchian Won’t Return in ‘Ant-Man: Quantumania’

David Dastmalchian Won’t Return in ‘Ant-Man: Quantumania’

It looks like the Baba Yaga got its hands on Kurt Goreshter, as David Dastmalchian has confirmed that he isn’t returning in the upcoming third entry of the Ant-Man and the Wasp franchise, Quantumania. The actor was asked about his eventual return during his attendance at Moon Knight’s red carpet premiere. There he confirmed that he isn’t in the project.

It doesn’t look like it… But that’s okay. I know they’re making something incredible. I can’t wait to see what Peyton does next. He’s one of my favorite directors…He’s been so busy. I have tried to stay in touch, but he’s making an incredible film right now.

    David Dastmalchian

He’s not the only X-Con member that won’t make a return, as we also learned back in March of 2021 that T.I. will also not be returning for the upcoming film. There were some rumblings regarding multiple sexual assault allegations towards T.I. at the time, but there have been theories that the sequel may have trimmed some of its supporting cast members. The fact Dastmalchian isn’t returning either seems to further support that theory.

For now, the only member of X-Con that hasn’t been revealed yet would be Michael Peña‘s Luis. He was a fan-favorite, especially with how he tends to recap events from previous films. While they shrunk down the cast, he may be the one to join them into the Quantum Realm. It would be hilarious to see him distracting Kang by giving him a recap of Avengers: Endgame with some fun cameos would be a great addition.

  • Deep Thoughts: Hypothetical Marvel Studios 2023 Release Calendar, V3

Deep Thoughts: Hypothetical Marvel Studios 2023 Release Calendar, V3

The future slate of Marvel Studios is more fluid now than it’s ever been. With the industry STILL being impacted by COVID to some degree, a backlog of projects that could be shuffled in and out of any date at any time, and the interesting lack of a 2022 press preview kit from Disney, fans are left frivolously hypothesize, predict and speculate when to expect their most anticipated MCU projects. And we’re here to help you with your favorite addiction. This isn’t our first attempt to pin down 2023’s projects; you can check out V1 here and V2 here to compare notes.

As much as everybody wants to see the Samuel L. Jackson/Nicky Fury-led Secret Invasion, the 2022 schedule seems to be complete without it. While we still don’t know very much about the plot of either Secret Invasion or The Marvels, it does seem like the two could share some sort of narrative bridge that would be well-served by them debuting relatively close to one another.

By the time The Marvels hits theaters, it will have been in the can for nearly a year and a half. That’s part of the backlog of projects created by the pandemic, which really changed the well-established production paradigm that Marvel Studios had followed for well over a decade. That means a lot of time to breathe for the characters in between appearances which creates a lot of anticipation…and you know Marvel Studios likes that.

After a little bit of a delay to the start of its production, Echo looks like it’ll be up and running in Georgia in April of 2022 and permits have been filed around Atlanta for the month of May. Given the “grounded” nature of Maya and the types of characters being cast in supporting roles, it doesn’t sound like this one is going to be a VFX showcase, so it should be ready to stream on Disney Plus in March of 2023. Of course, the question on fans’ minds is how much will Daredevil and Kingpin be involved and how might this series dovetail into the Daredevil solo project in development at Marvel Studios. Here’s to hoping Maya remains the focus of this series as there’s plenty of room for Daredevil to explore on his own.

At some point in the first half of 2023, Ahsoka, a highly-anticipated, live-action Star Wars streaming series, will hit Disney Plus. We now know that Disney Plus is not opposed to streaming live-action Star Wars and Marvel Studios’ projects simultaneously, but if Ahsoka rolls out sometime in early May, X-Men ’97, which is on track for a 2023 release, could stream concurrently with that and fill the Marvel Studios streaming void until June, leaving some live-action stuff for later in the year.

James Gunn’s third Guardians’ film might well be his last Marvel Studios’ project. By the time this comes out, it’ll have been over a decade since Gunn started work on Guardians of the Galaxy and as we’ve seen through his recent work on The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker, he’s really on top of his game. This one sounds like it’ll be something really special and emotional, with Gunn saying goodbye not only to Marvel but to some characters he’s really grown to love.

With the production of Season 2 of Loki on track to begin in June of 2022, it should be ready to roll out in June of 2023. While it isn’t clear whether or not Secret Invasion provides a direct runway to the events of The Marvels, it seems VERY clear that Loki Season 2 and Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania share a narrative canvas and that the former can easily hand off a storyline to the latter.

2023 could end up being the Summer of Kang. Jonathan Majors thrilled audiences with a tease of what to expect when the character returns, and it looks like when he does it’ll be a much heavier dose. Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania will feature some version(s) of the character fresh off of what’s expected to be a major role in Season 2 of Loki. Of course, Kang’s not the only villain fans can look forward to, as M.O.D.O.K. is also reportedly making his live-action debut, played by Corey Stoll. Should the schedule fall this way, it would represent a great example of the type of synergy Marvel Studios can pull off thanks to a parent company that has its own streaming service and total control over the release schedule.

While a lot of fans are expecting this to be tied into Armor Wars, all the early evidence suggests it is essentially a follow-up to Riri Williams adventures in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. That’s not to say that Riri might not show up in Armor Wars or that the events of Ironheart might not lead into the Don Cheadle-led streamer, in fact it would make a lot of sense if she did, but Riri will be busy enough on her own following her huge role in Wakanda Forever.

When V2 of the 2023 Hypothetical Calendar was published, Agatha: House of Harkness had only just been revealed by the trades a few days before and the official Disney Plus Day announcement was about a week away. Now, it really does look like it could make the 2023 release slate given the tentative October 2022 start of production. It seems like the perfect Spooky Season release for Marvel Studios, so slotting it here seems a no-brainer.

After a couple of production delays, Blade is looking at a Fall 2022 start of principal photography, which makes it the best candidate for the currently unfilled November 3, 2023 release date, especially with production on Captain America 4 officially delayed until 2023. It doesn’t hurt, of course, that it’ll come out right around Halloween and feature a vampire hunter, and it wouldn’t be entirely surprising to see this date slide back a week earlier where nothing major is currently scheduled for any studio.

Armor Wars, like Agatha: House of Harkness, is on track for a late-2022 start of production. While a 2023 debut is by no means set in stone for Armor Wars, there is a nice end-of-the-year window for it, should it be completed and ready to stream. We know very little about the project, but Kevin Feige seems to enjoy playing with the idea of having some streaming series thematically tied to the seasons in which they are released, so maybe, like Hawkeye, Armor Wars could be set during the holidays. After all, is there any better present than Stilt-Man?

  • Paul Rudd Spotted in First ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania’ Set Photos

Paul Rudd Spotted in First ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania’ Set Photos

We’ve gotten quite a few set photos over the last few months. Most notably, DC’s upcoming HBO Max original film Batgirl has seen quite a bit leaked. On the Marvel side of things, it has calmed down quite a bit. That was until now, as first set photos of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania have surfaced online featuring Paul Rudd. As first noticed by @AntManNews, The Daily Mail has shared quite a few shots from the actor in civilian clothes walking around, while nothing “heroic” is happening in any of these scenes and we don’t get a look at his potential new costume, Lang has his usual goofy smile while buying some coffee.

That is not all, as more set photos have found their way online that feature people noticing Scott Lang on his way to grabbing a coffee. After the events of Avengers: Endgame, he might have become somewhat of a celebrity. It also fits with him being featured in the Roger musical during Hawkeye. Of course, it also may have been a play on the fact that he was there as a result of time travel.

It’s great to finally see something from the Ant-Man sequel, as it’s been surprisingly quiet. Peyton Reed initially shared a picture from the Volume teasing production start, but we’ve heard very little about the film. Kang the Conqueror is confirmed to make his debut–if you don’t count a Variant–and Bill Murray recently spoiled that he’s in the film as a villain. So, we’ll see if these set photos might be the first of many to head our way, as we also see the rest of the cast on set.

  • Bill Murray Reveals He’s Playing a “Bad Guy” in ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania’

Bill Murray Reveals He’s Playing a “Bad Guy” in ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania’

One of the great mysteries surrounding Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania has been the identity of Bill Murray’s secret character. The legendary funny man accidentally revealed his own involvement with the film some time ago, despite zero confirmation from the powers that be at Marvel Studios. Now, he’s finally given fans an idea of the role he’ll play in the film.

While making an appearance on the latest episode of The Eli Manning Show, the Ghostbusters star had this to say about his character:

    …I’m a bad guy.

    Bill Murray

It’s quite straightforward without giving away any details. Murray as a villain is quite a surprising direction and we can’t wait to see him take on this role. We’ll see what he’ll add to stand out from Marvel Studios’ roster of villains, who have varied from truly memorable antagonists, like the Mad Titan Thanos or the recent addition of Wenwu, to those forgotten to time. Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania arrives in theaters on July 28, 2023.

Rumor: ‘Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania’ to Feature M.O.D.O.K.

Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania recently wrapped production and did so without much about the plot of the film being leaked. We do know that the film, which was recently bumped from a February to a July 2023 release, will see Jonathan Majors as Kang the Conqueror, Kathryn Newton as a recast Cassie Lang and Bill Murray join the returning cast of Paul Rudd, Evangeline Lilly, Michelle Pfeiffer and Michael Douglas. Now, a new rumor from The Direct, a character long rumored to be a part of the film will indeed make an appearance.

Earlier this year, it was reported by GWW that M.O.D.O.K. was featured in an early draft of the script for the third Ant-Man movie written by Rudd. However, with new writer Jeff Loveness on board, it was unclear if M.O.D.O.K. made the cut. Another recent rumor pointed to M.O.D.O.K. having a role in the film and being voiced by Jim Carrey. According to the rumor from The Direct, M.O.D.O.K. did in fact make the jump from Rudd’s draft to Loveness’, but will not be voiced by Carrey and will have a major role in the film, though they were only able to speculate about what it might be.

Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania is currently scheduled to debut in theaters on July 28, 2023.

  • ‘Quantumania’ Crew Merch Includes Cracked Ant-Man Helmet and Popular Kang Fan Artwork

‘Quantumania’ Crew Merch Includes Cracked Ant-Man Helmet and Popular Kang Fan Artwork

Just recently, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania wrapped production. Everyone has kept an eye out on the Internet if some crew merch might find its way online and luckily exactly that happened. Ace Ruele shared a t-shirt the stunt team used that had quite an interesting tease. What sticks out is that Paul Rudd‘s Ant-Man helmet is heavily damaged and cracked, which may not bode well for our favorite size-changing hero. If you look closer you’ll see Kang in the helmet’s reflection that may be familiar to people.

If you look closely, it turns out its fanart from artist spdrmnkyxxiii that you can find online based on what Jonathan Majors could look like as Kang. It’s not uncommon for these to find their way online and crew merch is commonly not created by official sources but brought to life by the teams. They sometimes tease elements of the film or TV show but don’t include actual artwork. Still, it’s a great design.

    https://twitter.com/AceRuele/status/1462806940053028869

Here’s the original design as shared by the artist back in September of 2020 that seemingly was used in the stunt team’s crew merch:

It’s still a great tease and highlights once again that Kang the Conqueror will have quite a large role in the upcoming story. We know very little about Quantumania and the usual comedic Ant-Man franchise might face quite the shakeup. The cracked helmet is quite foreboding especially with how involved the stunt team is in the action. We’ll see what the future has in store for Scott Lang.

‘Loki’ Cast Members Getting into the Madness of ‘Doctor Strange 2’

Owen Wilson Is Back as Lightning McQueen for a “Cars” TV Series

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is undergoing extensive reshoots which are designed, as star Bandicoot Snugglesnatch explained, to help realize the full potential of the film. Whether that means getting people on set who couldn’t be there before, when the film was shooting in the UK, or adding/reshooting some things, it’s ultimately a positive part of the filmmaking process for a pro like Sam Raimi and part of Raimi’s vision for this film apparently includes having Loki, Mobius and Sylvie in it. A recent IMDB update shows that stunt doubles for the actors behind those characters have recently joined the production. Additionally, Owen Wilson has been spotted in Los Angeles, a place he does NOT frequent unless he’s working. We’ll see how mad it all gets next May.

It was a little confusing because on one hand, he railed against millennials while, on the other hand, realizing that streaming is the future of entertainment. With an Alien series already in development, it looks like 2 of Scott’s most iconic franchises will continue to live on and that’s almost certainly a good thing.
